The Libra micro-age and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920) was the last Libra period before our current one (the Libra micro-age decan and overflow Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029), and was a highly significant period where major inroads were made by females, war again broke new ground in ferocity and mindlessness and China broke free of its heredity monarchy. The focus towards female enfranchisement was mainly focused upon western nations – as has been the case since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century when Europeans commenced their maritime discoveries followed by their ruthless conquest of the world.
Very quickly in 1911, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time across Europe. Even the theft of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa from the Louvre museum in Paris in the same year can be linked back to the speculation that the painting is the very first painting of the modern woman near the beginning of both the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan. Women went on trailblazing and in 1912 Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly across the English Channel and the Woman Suffrage Procession took place in Washington DC led by Inez Milholland on horseback. The following year, Emily Davison, a British suffragette, ran out in front of the King’s horse, at The Derby and was critically trampled and died four days later in hospital. It was also noted in Great Britain that, in the absence of men due to the First World War, not only did women replace men in the munitions factory, they were twice as efficient compared to when they were staffed exclusively by men.
The world did not wait for this Libra MAD to grant women the vote, but only very few countries or states did so before this period. An early country in this period was Norway when women got the vote in 1913. In contrast, in 1915, the US House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote but ferment was in the air, and Denmark gave women the vote and Iceland followed (allowing women over 40 voting rights). In 1916 Margaret Sanger opened the first US birth control clinic, a forerunner of Planned Parenthood and Republican Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to the US House of Representatives. In 1917, women won the right to vote in New York State notwithstanding the “Night of Terror” when influential suffragettes from the Silent Sentinels were deliberately subjected to physical assaults by guards while imprisoned – the Nazi’s did not invent fascism. The Russian Provisional Government enacted women’s suffrage and women were permitted to stand in national elections in the Netherlands.
As this Libra period came to a close, in 1918, most women in the UK over 30 were given the vote and Canadian women (excluding Quebec) were granted the right to vote in federal elections. Countess Constance Markievicz, while detained in Holloway Prison (London), became the first woman elected to the British House of Commons but did not take her seat. 1919 saw full women’s suffrage in the Netherland and finally at the 11th hour the United States Congress approved the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed suffrage to women and was ratified the following year.
Some famous women also became notable during this time. Mata Hari was arrested in Paris for spying in 1918 and Dr. Marie Stopes published her influential book Married Love in the U.K. In 1920, the Australian soprano Nellie Melba became history’s first well-known performer to make a radio broadcast when she sang two arias as part of an experimental series of broadcasts from a studio at the Marconi Company’s factory at Chelmsford in England. The Canadian-American actress, Mary Pickford (1892 – 1979), “the World’s Sweetheart” along with Charlie Chaplin and others founded United Artists in 1919 and was one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (created well after this Libra period). Pickford was one of the most popular actresses of the 1910s and 1920s, earning the nickname “Queen of the Movies” and obviously filling in for the goddess Venus.
There are some other developments that are worth noting, commencing with the formation of the Republic of China in 1912 after a revolution which overthrew the Qing dynasty, ending 5,000 years of monarchy in China and 267 years of the Manchu dynasty. Libra has traditionally been associated with the Far East, and Libra seems to have a strong role in China’s astrological signature as opposed to Aries – common amongst all western nations. Also in 1912 the National Park Service was created in the USA, with parks and gardens also traditionally associated with Libra. In 1919 the Grand Canyon was made a National Park. This connection to parks is noteworthy for the developing connection between Libra and the environmental movement.
Also in 1919, the League of Nations was founded whose principal mission was to maintain world peace and thus providing a strong link to Libra. The USA’s innate Pisces’ nature saw it quickly retreat from international involvement and the US Senate spurned its membership of the League of Nations. While this league was an abject failure, the astrology suggests that this is a seed for greater things to come – the world government greatly feared by many conservatives everywhere but without such an entity, a world devoid of major conflict or war is extremely unlikely. In 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was founded and is linked to Libra’s preference for justice such as the Black Lives Matter movement. 1920 also witnessed the launching of Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement in India, with the goal of obtaining independence from onerous British rule. Earlier in this Libra period, Gandhi was leading the passive resistance against racial inequality in South Africa. Non-violent revolution is another hallmark of Libra.
1920 also saw the world’s first peaceful establishment of a social democratic government in Sweden. Social democracy theoretically promotes social justice within the framework of a liberal-democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented mixed economy, but wherever justice exists, so does Libra! Also in 1920, insulin was first isolated for the treatment of diabetes – the Libra disease due to Libra’s rulership of sugar and the current worldwide growing addiction to obesity as the new norm.
Libra has strong affinity to music, and so it is appropriate that jazz came of age under this Libra period. The Original Dixieland Jass Band made the genre’s first recordings early in 1917, and their Livery Stable Blues became the earliest released jazz record. In 1919, Kid Ory’s Original Creole Jazz Band of musicians from New Orleans began playing in San Francisco and Los Angeles. This Libra period saw the birth of jazz as a major musical genre that displays no sign of abating its influence in the land of music.
Of course, the major event in this period was the monumental man-made disaster of the First World War triggered when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914, with the USA entering in 1917 and concluding on 11 November 1918. With around 22 million deaths, it was one of the largest wars and deadliest conflicts in history. It also made history by being the ‘first total war’ and again confirms that each of these relatively small Libra periods, sitting within the Libra age decan (1433 – 2149), outstrips previous Libra periods in pushing the war envelope. Unfortunately, this is an unsettling observation taking into account the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 2019 – November 2024 – November 2029) – especially its second half (November 2024 – November 2029).
No one zodiacal sign is going to create conflict – most events are associated with an astrological signature composed of a number of distinct components. This Libra MAD&OF sits within the larger and more powerful Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 25 – 40). Aquarius was the key sign associated with the rise of the extreme politics of communism and fascism that dictated events in this 30 year period. Aquarius is the sign of disruption (not rainbows in the sky). The coup-de-gras however is the last of the three strongest manifestations of Pisces in the world which will not be experienced at such potency for around another 25,000 years. 1910 marked the highpoint of the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) resonating with the massive Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3581). This was the main game in town for the first half of the 20th century.
Pisces is also a key sign in Europe’s astrological signature, and the two world wars certainly saw Europe tear itself apart, something that is common in Europe whenever Pisces is strong. The previous major Pisces rift was the Protestant Reformation that split European Christians into two and resulted in numerous military conflicts including the attempted invasion of Great Britain by the Spanish Armada. Only some of the world events in the period 1910 to 1920 can be associated with Libra, and in macro-astrology it is necessary to cherry-pick historical events from the cauldron of all events.
There is no doubt that despite the First World War women were on the move in this Libra period, and many first world nations commenced the path of voting rights for women. Women also broke new ground in their public achievements and notability – even notoriety. China’s affinity to Libra was again witnessed with the final overthrow of monarchial government after 5,000 years. The forerunner of the United Nations, the League of Nations, appeared as a well-meaning project that failed but is a sign of things to come over the coming centuries. The non-violent approach to politics was appropriately instigated by Gandhi – first in his homeland of South Africa, then India – much to the consternation of the arrogant British authorities. The maturation of jazz in this period is another acknowledgment of Libra and the coming of age of the USA – the age-empire of our times.
The First World War again demonstrates the link between major conflict and Libra not to mention that the momentum of violence unleashed upon the world by the Aries age and overflow ( 2862BC – 715 BC – 1433 AD) remains a potent negative force to be dealt with, and will probably be the main international focus in the second half of the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) most likely due to an effective international body resembling a world government of some degree or other.
The Gemini micro-age (Jan 1687 – Dec 1701) contains a Libra MAD&OF (Jan 1692 – Jan 1697 – Dec 1701) and mimics to a certain extent the early 21st-century configuration – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2029). The major influence of the late 17th century was the Leo sub-age decan overflow (1672 – 1731) which appropriately restored the English monarchy and all the opulent embellishments made taboo during the grim years of Cromwell’s Puritans. This period called The Restoration commenced prior to this Libra period in 1660 when the pendulum of English morality swung from repression to license more or less overnight. This small Libra period was therefore rejoicing in its newly returned frivolity of all types.
The First Global War
Once again, a major conflict was in place though it had already commenced prior to this Libra period, but it was mostly within the Libra period that the fiercest fighting occurred in 1692-3. The Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) was a conflict between France and an opposing European coalition which included England, Spain and Portugal with theatres also in North America and India. Its importance in association with this Libra period is that this war is not only considered to be the first global war – but also is considered a precursor to the two world wars of the 20th century.
The Nine Years’ War encompassed Ireland and Jacobite risings in Scotland (with some later elements of the Jacobite risings partly portrayed in the TV series Outlander), and North America between French and English settlers and their respective Indigenous allies. England was once again threatened by invasion, this time by the new European bully – France (which had replaced Spain as the key European power to be reckoned with, but this imminent invasion was thwarted by the destruction of the French navy in 1692. The last year of this Libra period saw the beginning of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) due to unresolved issues of the Nine Years’ War with a focus on maintaining the (Libra) balance of power between different European countries.
In 1693, William Penn’s (the founder of Pennsylvania) growing concern about the devastation of perennial (Aries) war in Europe resulted in his observation that a “European dyet, or parliament”, was necessary to prevent further war, without going into details. This is why the Libra world that is coming our way will probably include an international government as even in 1693, people recognized that without an overarching government, such as maintained in the heyday of Ancient Rome, the Mongol Empire and so on, peace is otherwise difficult if not impossible. Genghis Khan is believed to have boasted that a virgin carrying a bag of gold could traverse his empire by foot without fear. Those regions such as Ancient Greece that never unified were always at war with each other. Indian and Chinese states were regularly at war with each other except when united under one ruler.
In 1692 the Chinese emperor issued the Edict of Toleration of Christianity followed in 1698 with a similar statement of Islam stating:
“Even if you pacify the Hui people and then impede their religious practice, would it be possible to convert them to Buddhism, and have them bow and pray before the lamas? Now that the empire is at peace, make things run the way they are. Forcing them to assimilate is definitely not practical.”
USA & Australia
This period saw the first known publication of an anti-slavery text in the future USA by Samuel Sewall in 1700. In The Selling of Joseph (1700), he came out strongly against slavery, making him one of the earliest colonial abolitionists. Sewell argued, “Liberty is in real value next unto Life: None ought to part with it themselves, or deprive others of it, but upon the most mature Consideration.” The first permanent European settlement of Louisiana occurred in 1699 (now in Mississippi) but the first European explorers had arrived in 1528 in a previous Libra period – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – November 1537).
Some major discoveries of Australia’s western coastline during this Libra period was made by William Dampier (c.1651 – 1715). In 1699 Dampier voyaged to New Holland (Australia) and though he was commissioned to explore the east coast, he actually arrived on the west coast (Western Australia) and then travel north, ending up in Timor and also explored the north coast of New Guinea. His navigational prowess aided later voyages by James Cook and Horatio Nelson and his notes of the flora and fauna was read by Joseph Banks who later became the naturalists on some of Cook’s voyages. Dampier’s’ voyages influenced a number of novels including Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s Travels and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and he believed to be the first to write in English the words “barbecue”, “avocado”, “chopsticks” and “sub-species” plus first recorded the recipes for guacamole and mango chutney.
Females & Witches
With Libra’s female focus, the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials (1692 – 1693) accused more than 200 people of witchcraft with 30 found guilty, 19 were executed by hanging (14 women and five men). One other man was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of colonial North America. Only fourteen other women and two men had been executed in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the 17th century. The after effects of these trials at least produced the pertinent insight that:
“it were better that one hundred Witches should live, than that one person be put to death for a witch, which is not a Witch”
This shattered the ideal of theocracy in North America based on governments supposedly having God at its head – similar to the aims of ISIS (ISIL) in the early 21st century. Samuel Sewall was one of the judges of the Salem witch trials but later retracted his position and publicly acknowledged his guilt and expressed contrition for condemning the witches on trial.
The Scottish Paisley witches were tried in 1697 after the young daughter of the Laird of Bargarran, complained of being tormented by some local witches – which included one of her family’s servants, whom she had reported after witnessing her steal a drink of milk. Seven people were found guilty of having bewitched Shaw and were condemned to death – the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe. Shortly afterwards the former Scottish Secretary of State stated that:
“the parliaments of France and other judicatories who are persuaded of the being of witches never try them now because of the experience they have had that it’s impossible to distinguish possession from nature in disorder”.
These witchcraft trials represent the ending phase of the persecution of mainly (Libra) females as witches, and any Libra period will promote positive or negative events associated with women.
The Relapse, (also known as Virtue in Danger) was a Restoration comedy from 1696. This play is a sequel to Colley Cibber’s Love’s Last Shift where a free-living Restoration rake is brought to repentance and reform by the ruses of his wife, while in The Relapse, the rake succumbs again to temptation and has a new love affair while his virtuous wife is also subjected to a determined seduction attempt, and resists with difficulty. In the 18th century, the prevailing tolerant attitude towards actual and attempted adultery gradually became unacceptable, and the original play was for a century replaced on the stage by a moralized version A Trip to Scarborough. On the modern stage, The Relapse has been established as one of the most popular Restoration comedies. The Libra connection is obvious.
William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World was first performed in London in 1700. It is widely regarded as one of the best Restoration comedies, initially however, the play struck many audience members as continuing the immorality of the previous decades, and was not well received. In 1700, the world of London theatre-going had changed significantly because Charles II jubilant court, that had reveled in its licentiousness and opulence, had been replaced by the far more dour and utilitarian Dutch-inspired court of William of Orange – a military king who was reported to be hostile to drama.
One of the features of a Restoration comedy is the (Libra) opposition of the witty and courtly (and Cavalier) rake and the dull-witted man of business or the country bumpkin, who is understood to be not only unsophisticated but often either Puritan or another form of dissenter. In 1685, the courtly and Cavalier side was in power, and Restoration comedies belittled the bland and foolish losers of the Restoration. However, by 1700, the other side was ascendant.
The Way of the World’s recreation of the older Restoration comedy’s patterns is only one of the things that made the play unusual. The 1688 revolution concerning the overthrow of James II created a new set of social codes primarily amongst the bourgeoisie – their rise can be attributed to the newly arrived Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) bringing wealth and a growing middle class. The new capitalist system meant an increasing emphasis on property and property law. Thus, the play is packed with (Libra) legal jargon and financial and (Libra) marital contracts. These new (Libra) legal aspects allowed some female characters to secure their freedom through an equitable trust and for equality in marriage through a prenuptial agreement.
Also appropriately for this Libra period, The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 by Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695), a semi-opera and a “Restoration spectacular”. The libretto is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Purcell works were a uniquely English form of Baroque music and he is considered to be the greatest English composer up until the 20th century. Five of his most notable seven works were composed during this Libra period. Though not commonly known, his music has been widely applied in the 20th century. He composed an anthem and two elegies for Queen Mary II’s funeral which provided the title music of the 1971 film by Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange. Pete Townsend of The Who states that Purcell was an influence in their music including the introduction to Pinball Wizard as was the case with the Pet Shop Boys. Purcell’s compositions also found their way into the movie Kramer vs. Kramer, the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, and the German-language 2004 movie, Downfall to name a few. He died in 1695 during this Libra period at the height of his fame.
Some eponymous female characters appeared in this Libra period when in 1697 the French writer Charles Perrault published Mother Goose tales, a collection of popular fairy tales, including Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and The Sleeping Beauty. Libra’s aesthetic side was on display in 1693 when the first known form of eau de Cologne was created. In 1700, an inventory made for the Medici family of Florence contains the first documented evidence of a piano, invented by their instrument keeper Bartolomeo Cristofori.
The precursor of the two 20th century world wars but with France the protagonist against most other European powers indicates that Libra is not shy when it comes to major conflicts. Such was the atmosphere of conflict that William Penn introduced the concept of a united Europe which had to wait until the arrival of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) to see this dream manifest as a partial reality with the creation of the European Union. On the other side of the world, China was turning towards religious toleration for its Muslim subjects and newly arrived Christians. The earliest anti-slavery text in North America highlights a very early example of the precursor to the Black Lives Matter movement but the author was complicit at the infamous Salem witch trials again demonstrate the active persecution of mainly women and this same period saw the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe following the Scottish Paisley witch trials. The turning point for the persecution of witches seems to have occurred with this Libra period. Australia also continued getting attention under Libra with much of the remaining uncharted coastline of north west of Australia mapped by William Dampier while in North America, Louisiana was first settled.
Marital comedies with relevant social issues were the rage with The Relapse and William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World. The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 and the first appearances of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty brought the world these very famous female characters. The appearance of eau de Cologne and the first known piano cements this period to archetypes belonging to Libra.

This is a ‘full size’ 30 year Libra period being the Libra MA&OF (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657) and is the second of this size in the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149). The most significant influence for this Libra period was dour old Capricorn, and its negative influence upon gay Libra is readily identifiable in many of the historical events of this period – especially the absence of notable women. This Libra period fell under the shadow of the Capricorn sub-age overflow (1612 – 1791).
As to be expected, some major conflicts affected this Libra period and the major conflict of note is the British Civil Wars (1639 – 1653) and therefore closely shadowing the Libra MA&OF (1627 – 1657). The wars included rebellions, civil wars and invasions with the most important being the English Civil War which ended when the English parliamentarian army won followed by the execution of the king, the abolition of the monarchy, and the founding of the Commonwealth of England which lasted until 1660 – only a few years past the end of this Libra period. No English king had ever been previously executed. The English Civil War, similar to the American Civil War, was a major event in the history of the UK. Family was against family, and in all regions of Great Britain, the population was fairly evenly split in their loyalties to the crown or parliament.
Some historians claim that this civil war was the result of the arrival of the Renaissance into England which changed the balance of power, but governments tend to lag behind such changes at their peril. The Puritans played a decisive role, and the Puritans were energized Protestants, and Protestants do represent the arrival of the Age of Aquarius into Europe as many of Protestant features invoke Aquarius such as anti the pope (anti the magnificent Leo leader), and the fact that the Protestant cults usually had strong democratic features as opposed to the hierarchical structure of the Roman Catholic Church modelled after the government of Ancient Rome.
Oliver Cromwell (1599 – 1658) was the head of state (Lord Protector) under the new commonwealth. However his approach quickly fell out of favor after his death and his corpse was subsequently dug up, hung in chains, and beheaded. Cromwell is one of the most controversial figures in British and Irish history, considered a regicidal dictator by some, and a military dictator by Winston Churchill, a class revolutionary by Leon Trotsky, and a hero of liberty by John Milton. Cromwell was a Puritan who used his political power to actively promote the suppression of vice and encouraged virtue. Cromwell’s main generational sign was Aquarius, and his more fine-tuned generation was an Aquarius-Capricorn generation with Aquarius providing the revolutionary spirit and Capricorn the conservative Puritanism.
People today just do not understand the excitement unleashed by the Protestant revolution and arrival of the Age of Science early in the Age of Aquarius. These excited people were able to seize the government of England for a while, and stamp out the monarchy like it was a cigarette which provided the first Aquarius revolution in the new age. However, Aquarius is always detrimental to the UK as the UK has Leo high in its astrological signature. It did not take long for the monarchy to return and Aquarius’ revolutionary zeal headed to North America!
A number of developments occurred due to the English Civil War with close ties to Libra. In 1641 English law made witchcraft a capital crime (Capricorn and Libra) and a few years later in 1644 the first witch-hunter made his career in the eastern counties of England. In 1642 the English Parliament ordered the closure of all theatres in London, effectively ending the era of English Renaissance theatre established in the previous Libra period and followed by the banning of all stage plays in theatres anywhere in the country due to the stern approach to life adopted by the Puritans. The Taliban, ISIS and ISIL were merely following in the footsteps of European fascism from earlier centuries.
Libra the balance may have archetypally influenced the appearance of the Levellers, a political movement during the English Civil War (1642–1651) with (Libra) justice strongly represented in its manifesto – popular sovereignty, extended suffrage, equality before the law and religious tolerance. The hallmark of Leveller philosophy was its emphasis on equal natural rights. They were not the only ones going down this path.
The Society of Friends, commonly known as Quakers was formed in 1648 from ‘divine insight’ and as a Protestant Christian cult, its relevance to this Libra period is its opposition to (Aries) war and elevation of women. In the 1650s, individual Quaker women prophesied and preached publicly, developed charismatic personae and spread the word. This practice was bolstered by the movement’s firm concept of spiritual equality for men and women. Thus the Quakers were unwittingly in service to Libra (and the spirit of Aquarius). Interestingly, early Quakers disliked paganism so they refused to use the usual names of the days of the week, since they were derived from the names of pagan deities (planetary gods) and they refused to celebrate Christmas because they believed it was based on pagan festivities – which is true as the early Christian church borrowed Saturnalia from the Romans and rebadged it as Christmas (the general consensus of historians is that Jesus was not born in December). Only a few years past this Libra period in 1662 Quakers were persecuted for a time in the UK and American persecution commenced in 1656, only a year before the end of this Libra period, and four Quakers were actually hanged in 1660 in Boston.
Libra’s connection to jurisprudence is again clearly demonstrated with the publication of a series of legal treatises The Institutes of the Lawes of England which were written and published between 1628 and 1644. Widely recognized as a foundational document for English common law, they have been cited in over 70 cases decided by the Supreme Court of the United States, including several landmark cases including Roe v. Wade (1973), where The Institutes were cited as evidence that under old English common law, an abortion performed before quickening was not an indictable offence. An earlier case in 1895 referred to The Institutes for their definition of monopolies.
The publication in 1644 of Areopagitica; A speech of Mr. John Milton for the Liberty of Unlicenc’d Printing, to the Parlament of England by the English poet John Milton who strongly opposed censorship is amongst history’s most influential and impassioned philosophical defenses of the principle of a right to freedom of speech and expression. Many of its expressed principles have formed the basis for modern justifications. Milton has been acclaimed as the “greatest English author”, and he is regarded “as one of the preeminent writers in the English language”. John Milton also promoted the legitimacy of divorce publishing The Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce in 1643 which was considered heretical at the time. Libra’s quest for justice is again displayed.
Thomas Hobbes (1588 – 1679) was an English philosopher who is considered to be one of the founders of modern political philosophy. He is best known for his 1651 book Leviathan, in which he expounds an influential formulation of social contract theory. Social contract definitely has a Libran tinge and the main argument is that individuals have consented, one way or another, to surrender some of their freedoms and submit to the authority (of the ruler, or to the decision of a majority) in exchange for protection of their remaining rights or maintenance of the social order. Hobbes was an early exponent of this balanced argument.
Colonial America contributed to Libra even at this extremely early stage. In 1628 Puritans settled Salem, which later became part of Massachusetts Bay Colony. In 1629 around 350 English Puritans sailed from England to Salem, to settle in the Massachusetts Bay Colony which was granted a Royal Charter in the following year and it became a self-governing entity. The following year brought another 700 passengers including Anne Bradstreet, America’s first poet of significance and who in 1646, became a founding mother of Andover Parish (modern-day North Andover), Massachusetts.
1630 saw the settling of Boston and a group of emigrants arrived at Southampton Hundred, on the James River in Virginia. The first governor was appointed to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1631 with the first English settlement in Maryland and in the following year Charles I of England issued a charter for the colony of Maryland. Also in 1631, the Dutch West India Company started a settlement of the Delaware River. In 1634 a group from the Plymouth Colony settled in Windsor, Connecticut, making it the first settlement in the state. In 1635 Roger Williams (theologian) founded Rhode Island. And such was the rush to the colonies, in 1637 King Charles I of England issued a proclamation, attempting to stem emigration to the North American colonies.
In 1637 Elizabeth Poole became the first woman to found a town in the Americas – Taunton, Massachusetts. In the following year, Anne Hutchinson was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for heresy, and moved to Rhode Island. In 1643 the New England Confederation (also known as the United Colonies of New England) was formed as a military alliance comprising the colonies of Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, Saybrook (Connecticut), and New Haven. Its primary purpose was to unite the Puritan colonies in support of the church, and for defense against the American Indians and the Dutch colony of New Netherland. It was the first milestone on the long road to colonial unity. Interestingly, even at this early stage, the nascent American psyche was on display as John Quincy Adams remarked two centuries later:
“Its history, like that of other confederacies, presents a record of incessant discord – of encroachments by the most powerful party upon the weaker members, and of disregard, by all the separate members, of the conclusions adopted by the whole body. Still the main purpose of the union was accomplished.”
The Pisces American psyche is aptly demonstrated in the above statement.
In 1652, Rhode Island passed the first law in North America making slavery illegal. In 1655 John Casor, became the first legally recognized slave, as a result of a civil case. He was the first person of African descent in the Thirteen Colonies to be declared as a slave for life. His master was perversely a freed African-American and the Virginian court sustained the right of free blacks to own slaves. Laws racializing slavery hardened during Casor’s lifetime and after this Libra period in 1662, the Virginia Colony made a ruling that children of enslaved mothers would be born into slavery, regardless of their father’s race or status. This was in contradiction to English common law for English subjects, which based a child’s status on that of their father. However, this does shift the emphasis to Libra even if it is perverse!
One of the earliest voices for modern democratic ideals in the USA was pioneered by Roger Williams (1603 – 1683), the founder of what would become the Colony of Rhode Island. Though he was a Puritan minister, he was also a staunch advocate for religious freedom, separation of church and state, and fair dealings with Native Americans, and he was one of the first abolitionists as he organized the first attempt to prohibit slavery in any of England’s North American colonies. His views were far too liberal for the conservative Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay authorities and in 1635, he was convicted of sedition and heresy. They declared that he was spreading “diverse, new, and dangerous opinions”. He was considered an important historical figure of religious liberty at the time of American independence, and he was a key influence on the thinking of the Founding Fathers. Even at this early formative time, with Roger Williams we see the divergence of American culture between modern and medieval in line with Pisces, represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions. Pisces is the number one sign for the USA and this Pisces-divergent culture remains in place and recently demonstrated by the presidency of Donald Trump.
The discovery of Tasmania (an island south of the Australian mainland) and New Zealand in 1642 by Abel Tasman (1603 – 1659) followed by the charting of northern and western Australia (New Holland) two years later suggests a Libra connection to Australia and New Zealand especially as these voyages occurred at the pinnacle of this Libra period.
China was also a major focus within this Libra period. In 1627 the Manchus took advantage of Korea’s war-weakened state due to the unsuccessful Japanese invasion in the previous Libra period and invaded in 1627 and 1637, and this was even before the Manchus had taken over China. In 1637 a Chinese encyclopedist published Exploitation of the Works of Nature which is considered one of the most valuable encyclopedias of classical China. In 1641 a massive epidemic struck in northern and central China with some local areas and towns having 90% of the local populace wiped out, which may have contributed to the fall of the Ming Dynasty just three years later. In 1644 the invading Qing army captured Beijing marking the beginning of Manchu rule over China proper. The Ming dynasty had ruled over China from 1368 to 1644 while the Qing dynasty survived until 1912 (also in a Libra period). This major and highly significant political development in China supports a close connection between Libra and China. However, the 1368 commencement of the Qing dynasty occurred in a Cancer sub-age decan (1314 – 1373) and Cancer appears to be the most powerful sign associated with China.
On the artistic level, in 1642, Rembrandt finished his painting, The Night Watch – the most substantial of the important group portrait commissions which he received in this period. In the decade following the Night Watch, Rembrandt’s paintings gave way to the use of frontal lighting and larger and more saturated areas of color. At the same time, there was a marked decrease in painted works in favor of etchings and drawings of landscapes. In these graphic works natural drama eventually made way for quiet Dutch rural scenes. Libra’s rulership of parks and gardens is coming into play!
Rubens’s (1557 – 1640) later period coincided with the first part of this Libra period. He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Between 1627 and 1630, Rubens’s diplomatic career was particularly active, and he moved between the courts of Spain and England in an attempt to bring (Libra) peace between the Spanish Netherlands and the United Provinces. Rubens was knighted by Charles I of England in 1630. In 1628 He began a renewed study of Titian’s paintings, copying numerous works. By 1629 he completed one of his most important works – the Allegory of Peace and War which illustrates the artist’s lively concern for peace. His international reputation with collectors and nobility abroad continued to grow during this decade, and one prominent example was The Assumption of the Virgin Mary (1625–6) for the Cathedral of Antwerp. In 1630, four years after the death of his first wife, 53-year-old Rubens married his deceased wife’s 16-year-old niece, who inspired the voluptuous figures in many of his paintings from the 1630s, including The Feast of Venus, The Three Graces and The Judgement of Paris with his wife the model for various depictions of Venus including sculptures.
Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599 – 1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter in England after success in his homeland and Italy. He is best known for his portraits of the aristocracy, most notably Charles I (before he was beheaded), and his family and associates. Van Dyck became the dominant influence on English portrait-painting for the next 150 years. King Charles I was the keenest collector of art among the Stuart kings, and saw painting as a way of promoting his elevated view of the monarchy (this was the time of Capricorn). In 1628, just inside this Libra period, he purchased the fabulous collection that the Duke of Mantua was forced to sell. Van Dyck remained in contact with the English court and helped King Charles’s search for paintings. In England he developed a version of his style which combined a relaxed elegance and ease with an understated authority in his subjects which was to dominate English portrait-painting to the end of the 18th century. Many of these portraits have a lush (Libran) landscape background.
Claudio Monteverdi (1567 – 1643) was an Italian musician and priest who composed both secular and sacred music, and was a pioneer in the development of opera – he is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and Baroque periods of music history. This Libra period mainly coincided with Monteverdi’s late flowering period (1637 – 1643) commencing with the opening of the first public opera house in Europe at San Cassiano in 1637, which stimulated the city’s musical life and coincided with a new burst of the composer’s activity. By 1656, the first opera house opened in London. Monteverdi’s contribution to opera at this period is notable and is credited for the rebirth of theatrical music and that “he will be sighed for in later ages, for his compositions will surely outlive the ravages of time.” Monteverdi’s drive may have come from the fact he was born of an Aries-Aries or Aries-Pisces generation.
Molière (a stage name) (1621/2 – 1673), was a French playwright, actor and poet, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the French language and world literature. He turned to acting in 1643 only one year past the peak of this Libra period. His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the “language of Molière”. Despite his own preference for tragedy, Molière became famous for his farces. He began to write full, five-act comedies in verse in 1654 towards the end of this Libra period which he outlived. His attraction to farce may be explained by the fact he was born in a Scorpio-Scorpio generation and his troupe did go bankrupt at one stage.
Though highly notable females seem absent in this period, an abstract focus did prevail. In 1629 a Chinese emperor of the Ming dynasty reiterated the state prohibition against female infanticide. However, as perhaps an example of oriental yin yang, the same year actresses were banned from the stage in Japan.
In 1631, the death in childbirth of the Mughal emperor’s wife caused the emperor to commission the Taj Mahal at Agra, as a mausoleum for her. Constructed from 1632 to 1653 – it also became the emperor’s tomb (at a cost of about $US956 million in today’s money). The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage” and it was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World (2000–2007) initiative. It could be dedicated to Libra both as a work of art and beauty plus an expression of love in marriage!
The elevation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Queen of Genoa in 1637 is again in the Libra camp. And finally, Libra’s ruling planet Venus gets some attention in 1639 when the English astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks made the first successful prediction and observation of a transit of Venus.
Cafes breed (Libra) socializing, and the appearance of cafes in Europe coincided with this Libra period with the first café in Europe opened in Venice in 1640. Coffee drinking became popular in Paris by 1643 and England saw its first coffeehouse open in 1651 and such were their popularity, by 1675, there were more than 3,000 coffeehouses in England.
Finally, Libra’s connection to all things beautiful naturally must include flowers, and so it is fitting that in 1637 saw the collapse of Tulip mania in the Dutch Republic. At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled crafts worker. Another example suggests that one tulip bulb was bartered for 12 acres (5 hectares) of land. It is believed to have been the first recorded speculative bubble and bust in history but it did not create an economic crisis for the Dutch Republic, which at the time was the world’s leading economic and financial power.
Finally, the 1656 invention of the pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens is interesting because 1656 is heavily influenced by the Capricorn sub-age overflow, Capricorn sub-age decan overflow as well as the Capricorn quasi sub-age – in other words, Capricorn the sign of time and clocks, was incredibly strong when the pendulum clock was invented. However, the swing motion of the pendulum invokes Libra! Pendulum clocks were the most precise timekeeper, accounting for its widespread use until the 1930s and 40s when they were overshadowed by less-expensive, synchronous, electric clocks in the Capricorn micro-age and overflow (1925 – 1940 – 1955). In my youth I can remember when I stayed at my grandparents’ house, I used to go to sleep every night listening to the half hour and hour chimes of their mantelpiece pendulum clock which they wound up every day.
The most notable aspect of this Libra MA&OF (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657) is the lack of notable women. There would have been some notable women that fail to register with us today, but there is a plausible astrological reason why highly placed notable women are largely absent in this larger than average Libra period. The following list displays the Libra periods since the start of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 that have been investigated to date in this Libra series:
Pisces-Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612)
Libra micro-age and overflow (March 1463 – March 1478 – March 1493)
Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – November 1537)
Libra micro-age decan and overflow (August 1582 – July 1592)
Capricorn-Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791)
Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)
With the first three Libra periods located in Pisces-Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612), Pisces overshadows Capricorn. The current Libra period however is located in the Capricorn- Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) where Capricorn is the major player. The current Libra period is the first in the Capricorn-Sagittarius sub-age overflow and is buffeted by the strongest Capricorn influence of all the Libra periods investigated to date. Capricorn is naturally anti-feminine due to Cancer being the opposite sign to Capricorn – and Cancer shares with Libra a strong association to females. Furthermore, the first sub-age decan in the Capricorn- Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) is the Leo sub-age decan (1612 – 1672) and Leo is male-orientated. Naturally, the darkness of Capricorn did not limit the accusation of witchcraft against women, if anything, it magnified this horror.
The major conflict of note was the English Civil War resulting in the execution of the king and the establishment of a commonwealth in England that also banned anything frivolous or fun, as Capricorn promotes a stern authoritarian lifestyle. This is why all theatres were closed in London in 1642. Nevertheless Libra inspires justice, and this can be seen with the Levellers promoting modern liberal ideals – well ahead of their time. The Quakers also promoted equality of the sexes. The publication of The Institutes of the Lawes of England clarified many aspects of English common law that spread to the USA and other countries. Other legal perspectives from John Milton and Thomas Hobbes pushed the boundaries of English medieval laws towards modernity.
This Libra period saw great activity in North America, especially New England or what would become the hub of the northern states in the USA and suggests that in Pisces USA, one of the fish has strong Libran qualities of justice and equality. These new settlements include: Salem, Boston, Maryland, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island. The creation of the United Colonies of New England was a forerunner for the creation of the revolution USA. The seeds of the American Civil War were put in place in this Libra period when Rhode Island passed the first law in North America making slavery illegal.
The first extensive European exploration of Australia and New Zealand in this period also suggests that inclusion of Libra into the astrological signatures for these countries (and Canada whose name was coined in the previous Libra period) provided future Libra periods confirm this assessment.
China had an exceptional development with the fall the Ming dynasty replaced by the Manchu dynasty in 1644. The publication of the Exploitation of the Works of Nature in 1637 provides an invaluable insight into the Chinese world of this period. However, before the Ming collapsed they did reiterate the state prohibition against female infanticide
Probably the most notable development in this period was on the artistic side. This Libra period captured key periods in the life of extremely famous artists and musicians such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck, Monteverdi, and Molière with Rubens the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition and Van Dyck dictating portraiture for the next 150 years. Monteverdi virtually created opera and Molière as one of the greatest writers in the French language and world literature.
Appropriately one of the most famous marriages in history occurred in this Libra period with the death in India of the Mughal emperor’s wife and his construction of one of the most beautiful buildings in the world – the Taj Mahal. As a temple (ceremonial structure), ruled by Capricorn, it is better known than his wife to whom the temple is dedicated. Though this period is bereft of famous females, the elevation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Queen of Genoa in 1637 does make an attempt. Venus (the ruler of Libra) gets a focus when the English astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks made the first successful prediction and observation of a transit of Venus
Coffee promotes (Libra) social interaction and coffee made its move in this Libra period with the first European café in 1640. Libra’s association with flowers does see its manifestation with the boom of the tulip market in the Dutch Republic, followed by its bust and setting the precedent for economic cycles over the following centuries including the 21st century. Finally the invention in 1656 of the pendulum clock aligned with Capricorn, the ruler of time, is a fitting end to this review.

Many people are currently feeling frustrated at the general state of the world, what with politicians refusing to provide leadership and especially over the devastation of the world’s environment. There are many reasons for this frustration, and a lack of knowledge of history plays a part, but we should get a glimmer of the distant future over the next decade, especially in the second half (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) though for the astute observer, formative embryonic developments can pop up anytime from now on – and two possible examples may have already occurred.
Does the astrology of the future paint a nicer picture compared to the present? This can be easily answered by track record. The track record since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD indicates that massive improvement in the quality of life by the majority of people has occurred – but as a rule of thumb only. More hundreds of millions of people than we can accurately estimate have in the same period experienced pitiful and terrible lives, with many cut short due to lack of adequate health care, famine, premature death or serious injury from war and so on. Things are getting better, but this in no way has led to a perfect world, or a world anywhere near perfect.
Though the future should be better, the future is slow to arrive, which is very frustrating in a period of time when Gemini is so strong in the world, and getting stronger – because under Gemini, everyone wants everything now! Not only are you not going to get everything now, you are most likely not going to see in your lifetime what you would like to see, though most Millennials and later generations will see some real progress or tangible results in tackling Climate Change.
In Year 587 of the Age of Aquarius (1433AD – 3574AD), the world is entering a new dawn or mini epoch (that occurs every 5 years or so). December 2019 marked a number of fundamental changes involving five-year micro-age decans. Decans, in general, are powerful in the astrological ages. This applies to age-decans (approx. every 715 years), sub-age decans (approx. every 59-60 years) and micro-age decans (approx. every 5 years). Even the humble nano-age decan lasting 5 months has clout, especially when associated with the stock market.
The Aquarius micro-age decan concluded in December 2019 – which covers the exact same period as the Cancer micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019), and an alternate way of describing these 5 years is to label it the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan. This doubling up applies to all periods in the astrological ages, taking into account that the first of the two signs is always the most powerful. [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for more details] Therefore, the biggest development in December 2019 was the shift from the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan, with the emphasis on Cancer, to the Aquarius-Libra micro-age decan with the emphasis on Aquarius. This promotion of Aquarius to the detriment of Cancer over the coming 5 years will increase the radicalization of society and promotion of fringe politics we have experienced over the last 5 years to an even higher level or greater intensity. There will also be far greater grass-root movements to continue the push for equitable outcomes in an array of areas as there are just so many issues that contemporary society and politics inadequately handle. [see This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan for more details].
The current radicalization and growth in fringe politics is nowhere near as strong as the last time Aquarius strongly manifested in the world under the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) – so this time around we tend to get neo-fascists and hard-right politicians rather than fully-fledged fascists such as Adolph Hitler, Mussolini and Franco in the 1920s and 30s – Stalin can also be added to the list of tyrants. However, the near future is not just more of the same ramped up to a higher level (Trump, Brexit, and the many secondary neo-fascists leaders that have been popping up around the world recently) because a new element arrived in December 2019 – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) – see Table 1 below.
Table 1 The Cancer-Gemini micro-age (December 2014 – November 2029)
This will be a powerful period for Libra due to its resonance with the massive Libra age-decan (1433 – 2148) of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574) and strongly supported by the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) (see table 2 below). The next 10 years of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow is the real inauguration of the current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) as this is the strongest manifestation of Libra since the Libra sub-age commenced in 1970. This can be labeled as the ‘christening’ of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148). Like Venus in the night sky, it should be something to behold.
Table 2 The Age of Aquarius with its age-decans and overflows
When the Libra age-decan (1433-2148) and Libra sub-age (1970-2148) both enter their respective overflow periods commencing in 2148, a very different world will exist compared to what we take as normal today, due to the nature of Libra – a natural benefic influence, by and large. It is Libra that brings confidence to the expectation that the world will not only continue forward as it has done since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, but also have an opportunity to take some more steps toward a more harmonious and even garden-like state compared to smokestacks and car exhausts filling up the atmosphere with noxious pollutants while governments spend trillions on weapons of mass destruction. Our current plight is another example of our medieval world we have inherited from the Pisces age overflow [see the Myth of Modernity for more details]
This new Libran world will not be heaven on Earth or paradise for a number of reasons – the main reason being that humanity will continue its ongoing medieval momentum for at least another 1,500 to 2,000 years – albeit at a lower intensity compared to 2019. If you want to examine the ratio of modernity to medievalism, examine the period from the beginning of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 to now, and see the slow but steady development of modern society as it slowly displaced some of the vestiges of the medieval side of society. For example, it still took around 300 to 400 years before starvation was mainly eradicated in Europe (though the Irish Potato famine extended this another century or so). It took around 500 years for women to get the vote in western society. The LGBT community has only recently been liberated, and even this is not yet universal in all western nations. Change happens much slower than people realize, especially for people with a progressive outlook. But the overall trend remains – the world is progressing forward for the better, but this does not mean what is better is always triumphing over its opposite.
My educated guess is that contemporary western society is about 75% medieval and 25% modern (except for technology) – which reflects the power balance between the Pisces age overflow (1433– 3574) promoting medievalism and the up and coming Aquarius age (1433 -3574) promoting rationality. Though we have experienced some major throwbacks to medievalism over the last 500 years, these throwbacks are the aberration, as the worldwide tide under the Age of Aquarius is towards progressiveness and liberalism over the medium and long term – but not necessarily in the short term. At any turn, medieval Pisces can bite, and bite savagely such as the Spanish Inquisition, Hitler’s Third Reich, communist oppression, the USA’s history of overthrowing democratic countries not towing the American line and so on as some major examples only. The inadequate response to Climate Change can be considered another bite of the apple by medieval Pisces.
What can we expect from Libra? Libra likes parties, social events, women, art, gardens, the color green, compromises, armistices, peace and peace treaties as a few major archetypes. Libra prefers equity or the middle path over extremism! Libra is also associated with the Far East which includes China, Indo-China, Japan and immediate surrounding countries though Libra is not the primary sign for most of these countries. For example, China’s strongest sign is Cancer, while Japan is Scorpio, but the (Libra) Far East provides the counterbalance to the (Aries) West. Historically, China has nearly always surpassed (Aries) Europeans and all other parts of the world in nearly everything, and the recent rise of China is merely China returning to its natural state in world affairs. It has an extremely bad track record in maintaining a stable government but continues to exist regardless.
Not everything associated with Libra is positive, as all 12 zodiacal signs are associated with positive and negative archetypes. Libra is indecisive, so when action is needed on Climate Change, there is no mobilization of the necessary forces and resources countries would usually rely upon say, in times of war. You can also expect under Libra a slowdown, if not a retreat, in countries trying to outdo each other in building the tallest building – as engineering belongs to Aries – the opposite sign to Libra. Libra rules sugar (and carbohydrates) and so we are seeing this manifest in the world in the obesity and diabetes epidemic. People want to party hard, and this also fuels the rise of party drugs. Finally, Libra is associated with immaturity, and we are probably witnessing this global immaturity on exponential growth curve, but music will be playing and the alcohol will be flowing. At the end of the day, the world under Libra is like a girl that “justs wanna have fun”!
However, there is a very dark side to Libra (as with all zodiacal signs). Some of the greatest wars have occurred under Libra, as Libra rules opposition and major irreconcilable polarities. In horoscopic astrology, the appearance of Libra, its ruler Venus or the 7th house (Libra’s natural house) can all engender the formation of a major relationship, marriage, or business partnership, but it can also rule divorce, often acrimoniously, or the breakup of partnerships. Libra will also focus upon open opposition, and a brief examination of its role in previous incarnations will demonstrate its highly destructive side.
The last Libra period of a note (ie larger than a 15-month nano-age that appears approximately every 15 years) was the Libra micro-age decan (1910-15) followed by the more potent Libra micro-age decan overflow (1915-20) of the Aquarius micro-age (1910–25). The First World War (1914–18) fits amazingly well into the peak of Libra coinciding with its overflow. This was not a time of peace but war and its aftermath of destruction including a pandemic that killed more people in the world than the First World War.
The 18th century Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1856 -61-66) produced in its second and more powerful half the American Civil War (1861-65) which strongly suggests that Aries plays an active role in the gun-toting American culture. The Libra micro-age decan overflow (1861-66) cannot be solely blamed for the Civil War, as this Libra period was within the potent Cancer sub-age decan overflow (1851-1910) of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 2148) and Cancer is opposite Capricorn – a key sign in the astrological signature for the USA that the Puritans brought with them to America.
The earlier Libra micro-age and overflow (1791-1806-1821) again captures the devastating Napoleonic Wars (1803 – 1815) mainly in the more potent second part. The Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1746-51-56) saw the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) which included in the American theater the French and Indian War (1754 – 1763). This international war is considered by some to have the status of a world war and precursor of the two world wars of the 20th century. The world was learning how to produce world wars.
The even earlier Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1692-1697-1702) finds the beginning of another major European conflict – the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) which resulted in Britain’s rise as the leading European power with the simultaneous decline of the Dutch Republic. The American theater of this was Queen Anne’s War (1702 -1713) as a precursor to the French and Indian War.
The correlation between major historical wars and Libra micro-age decans or micro-ages is too strong to ignore, and so it must be assumed that of the many disagreements currently existing around the world, a new period of open conflict is not only possible but highly likely. Taking into account that the previous major Libra conflicts were all associated with the major powers of the times, any conflict associated with the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow, especially roughly associated with the second half or overflow period, will most likely involve the major power brokers of today’s world.
Therefore, we can assume that the relationship between the USA and China, with or without the involvement of Europeans (on the American side) and Russia (on the Chinese side) with Middle Eastern states probably involved – cannot be ruled out. The big question is really the nature of the conflict? Will it translate into actual hostilities, or will it be an economic war or proxy wars? Regardless, we must allow for a major conflict at the upper echelon of world powers above and beyond the normal petty conflicts we have periodically experienced since the end of the Second World War.
Doomsday people will go for a world war, but a Libra period will not produce a world war without major resonance with a stronger period. The First and Second World Wars occurred in the Pisces sub-age decan overflow (1910 – 1970) that was particularly strong in the first half (1910-1940). This Pisces sub-age decan overflow resonated with the strongest sign in the world – the Pisces age-overflow (1433-3574) and this Pisces sub-age decan overflow represents the strongest manifestation of Pisces in the world which will not be replicated for around another 25,000 years. The period 1910 to 1940 was an incredibly powerful cauldron. The current Libra micro-age decan and overflow sits under the Scorpio sub-age decan overflow (1970 – 2029) and while Scorpio can be a savage sign, it is not anywhere near as comparable to the period 1910 to 1940. Without the cauldron of the early 20th century, it is unlikely we will see a world war in the coming decade, but we must be prepared for some major conflagration or international discord above and beyond ‘normal’.
We will only be witnessing the glimmer of the distant Libra future over the next 10 years as the world is a long way away from such a dominant Libra reality – as this is reserved for the second half of the next century onward. Everyone will not be dressed up as young girls partying with ecstasy, as both the positive and negative sides of Libra will manifest. At the sharp edge of Libra is its quest for justice, equity, beauty and harmony, such as the mythical Garden of Eden, and it is no surprise that the Greens will benefit under Libra. Though other Libra areas should not be ignored, it is probably the growth of the Green Movement and environmentalists that will provide the greatest focus over the next 10 years but it is important to take note of all Libra archetypes if you are searching for it in world affairs over the coming decade. At the penultimate alternate festival in Australia straddling the 2020 New Year, their theme was appropriately “imagining a beautiful future.”
It is much better to focus on solutions than problems, and one reason why so many people seem so down and depressed is that they are focusing on the problems – ‘you grow like the company you keep’. The world has always had problems, and regularly very big problems. People go to what they focus on – so it is better to take note of all the positive buds or new Libra plants that have been sprouting over the decades which will contribute to a better but imperfect world. Of course, the message from the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2148), especially in the first half, is that security and strength will not be found in the world, and if you are looking for these qualities, it is necessary to search within, as the inner world is ruled by Scorpio. Looking for strength and security in the outer world is usually a case of chasing straws, and this is even magnified more in our current world with Scorpio ‘peaking’. Hopefully, Scorpio will not invoke any more use of nuclear weapons in the coming conflict, but this cannot be ruled out, especially until 2059, at which point Scorpio drops in intensity as the Scorpio quasi sub-age decan (1881 – 2059) concludes (see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details on quasi periods)
The solution to the major problems in the world will not come from anything other than more people being conscious and wanting more action on equity – especially involving the environment. Very few people make major changes to their belief systems or outlooks after the age of 25 years. It will be each new generational
crop that comes along with a far greater focus on climate change and equitable outcomes that will make the difference in the world. This has been occurring since the appearance of the (Libra) peace Movement in the 1960s. It now seems to be accelerating with the likes of Greta Thunberg sitting atop the iceberg of youthful climate activism and harnessing the youthful momentum of the Gemini sub-age and overflow (1970-2029-2088), especially in the years from 2029 onward.
An excellent calibrator for the coming change is the percentage of the population that votes Green. In my country, I have watched the Green vote go from around 5% in the 1980s to 10% to 12% recently. Based on the interaction of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791–1970-2148) with the Libra sub-age and overflow (1970–2148–2327) – the critical demarcation point this century is the year 2059 – the fulcrum point between the Scorpio quasi-age and Libra quasi-age. Scorpio is focused upon pollution and destruction – it is not a peaceful stable sign., but it also can result in a rebirth or renewal. Though it has brought nuclear bombs, tyrants and major destructive revolutions such as the communist revolution which just created even worse tyrants than existed previously and murdered millions of people in the process, it can also regenerate. Fortunately for the future, the addition of Libra is not normally a sign of violence or destruction.
However, many countries have democratic political systems that prevent or limit the influence of the Green movement. Two excellent examples are the USA and UK, which while nominally democratic, are extremely reticent in apportioning political influence to minor parties due to the gerrymander-style of democracy they have produced. Most institutions are conservative, so it should come as no surprise that the USA and UK so-called democratic governments favor conservative elements and conservative structures that prevent or severely limit significant fringe views such as the Greens. The members of the upper house in the UK are not even elected, while the upper house in the USA, the Senate, basically avoids giving voice to significant minorities by only allowing two senators per state which mostly only represents the two major parties. Both instances grossly distort democracy. This undemocratic reality is like racism, no one admits to it.
Nevertheless, despite the delusion of democracy in western society, the delusion of democracy is better than any other system going. Under democracy, we are forced to work with the lowest common denominator in the political arena, and so the dictatorship of the proletariat basically decides the political direction – Trump in the USA and Brexit in the UK are good examples of the proletariat in action. Under the first half of the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 Dec19-Nov 24) the proletariat is not happy with what (Leo) mainstream politics has given to them as they feel they have been ignored for decades – because they have.
If this was a permanent state of affairs, the world would probably not make it through the next century. Fortunately, there is an evolution in progress in western society, and the astrology of the astrological ages indicates that the hippies and peace movement of the 1960s and 70s has provided the ethos for the revolution of our times – and it is a non-violent revolution due to the growing strength of peaceful Libra. This evolution will make a big jump forward in 2059 when the fulcrum point between Scorpio and Libra occurs. My estimate is that by 2059, 20% of western voters will be solid Green voters, and it will be 50% by the middle of the following 22nd century. The violent revolutions of the previous two centuries occurred under Scorpio when monarchies around the world were overthrown and replaced by democracies, communism or dictators.
While the Green vote hitting 20% by 2059 may seem insignificant, 20% is the tipping point – once the support for something hits 20%, it is able to make major shifts in politics and society beyond the scope of their size. However, most of us will not see 2059, but we do get to see the budding and growth of the Green Evolution.
Like all other movements or political parties, the Green evolution and associated politics will definitely not be perfect – far from it. What is happening is that the current highly imperfect political system orientated towards the rich cannot deal with climate change and other ills of the world effectively. They will be replaced by another slightly less imperfect system that despite its imperfections, can address to a higher degree the major issues of our times. Western society has already experienced three major revolutions/evolutions since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, and the Peace and Green Movement is the fourth one and the one for our times – for better or worse. In centuries to come, it will also be ‘overthrown’ – due to the many imperfections that will prevent it from dealing with the issues of the future centuries. [see Is Western Society Due Another Revolution? ]
The rise of this new movement and political entity will not wipe out western society as we know it today. Nearly all elements will remain such as imperfect democracies, corporations, rich and poor, war and conflict and so on, but kind of limited, put into their place, or not so freely allowed to create utter chaos such as extreme capitalism has done to the world’s environment. The world has already rejected extreme socialism in the form of communism and just needs to also reject extreme capitalism currently strongly promoted by most conservative western governments with the unconscious support of their proletariats. Libra promotes a balance, not a wipeout. Furthermore, the medieval influence in western society will remain quite strong until at least 2500 AD, and even then, will continue on for almost another 2,000 years. People will not let go of their belief systems but are like birds in a cage with the door open – but unwilling to fly out to their freedom. The Green Movement also reeks of belief systems, just like the rest of society. This is why the Green Movement will also have an expiry date as belief systems are more static and find difficulty adapting to changed circumstances. The recent worldwide mainly religious-based pedophile scandal is a good example of inflexible belief systems hitting reality and is an excellent example of how medieval the world remains., but it is being slowly and surely chipped away over the centuries.
So what we get in the Libra micro-age decan and overflow over the next decade is a homeopathic taste of the future that most of us will not be alive to see. If you solely focus on the stupidity of the world, you will merely continue to get depressed. Look for positive archetypes associated with Libra – the momentum towards environmental justice and equity in general evoked by the Statute of Liberty – but currently mainly superficial and not yet fully manifested. It is also important to acknowledge the good that has been developed in western society over the last 500 years or so, as the only reason we are able to live and exist the way we do is due to the momentum of progress and liberal democracy over these 5 centuries. This is awesome (except for those hundreds of millions that were killed, displaced, persecuted or lived in poverty).
The Green and Peace Movements are a continuation of a very long process that was unleashed on an unsuspecting world when the Age of Aquarius arrived in 1433 AD and will stretch for thousands of years. Anything of substance seems to have a long germination process. Most of us alive today will only get to witness the germination of the new major evolution of western society which will effectively address Climate Change ultimately – plus some other inequities in society and politics such as the rich getting richer while the rest stagnate It is later generations that will get the major benefits. This does not mean that many other countries not part of western society will not do their share, but for the most part, ever since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, the rest of the world has followed the lead of western society. It hasn’t always been western society at the lead, nor will it always be in the future. The dice of the astrological ages seems to randomly select a different region to be new ‘leaders’. In the future, it may just select diffident groups within a homogenous worldwide society that is the likely outcome and end result of the Age of Aquarius?
There are already two possible manifestations of Libra that may have already raised its head. Firstly, on the 20th December 2019, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that the state must reduce its CO2 emissions. It is claimed that due to this landmark court ruling, climate action is now inseparable from human rights. The decision was based on Articles 2 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights which creates obligations for states to protect their citizens against dangerous climate change setting an international precedent. It is unlikely that this judgment will make any critical change for the better but at least it is a small step in the right direction. Law courts are ruled by Libra which is why you will often see a statue of the ancient goddess of justice holding a balance in front of major law courts. This is probably just a small part of the opening salvo from Libra.
Secondly, the authorization by President Trump of the killing of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad Airport on January 3 2020 indicates an increase in aggression by the US against Iran – its major foe in the Middle East. This is seen by most as an escalation of tensions and therefore conforms to the appearance of the Libra micro-age decan. The war-addicted USA may make an Iran conflict the catalyst for the next major international conflagration?
So in conclusion, the next 10 years is not just about the first significant manifestation of Libra since 1915-20, but also a foretaste or glimpse of our future world. While on the one hand, serious steps towards greater liberal democratic and green policies will certainly occur, the wildcard is major conflict. In the meantime, the same is playing out for Aquarius, because December 2019 to November 2024 is also the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow and will provide an insight for the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) that will also have a very profound influence upon the world later this century. Even most Millennials will not see Aquarius in full flight later this century. The real christening of the Age of Aquarius will occur in the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) – the strongest manifestation of Aquarius since the inception of the Age of Aquarius in 1433. It will really be something for our collectove descendants to behold.

On an extremely elementary level, myth is associated with Pisces and modernity with Aquarius and this dichotomy provides the crux of not only this post, but the big-picture view of our world at large. Though the world is currently in the Age of Aquarius, the overflow from the previous age of Pisces is even stronger – especially in the first half of the Age of Aquarius [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details]. A more inclusive way to name the Age of Aquarius is the Pisces-Aquarius age, which followed the Aries-Pisces age (when Aries was more powerful than Pisces). The combination of Pisces with Aquarius means that the influence of ‘myth’ from the Pisces age overflowing into the Aquarian age is greater than the influence of modernity even though modernity is easier to perceive – which is why most people live in the delusion that we are modern.
It is extremely easy to see modernity as it is represented by electricity, computers, technology, the internet, flight and the most widespread application of various forms and quality of democracy in the world to date – with most of this evidence tangible to the eye (with only democracy being the most nebulous item in this list). Myth is a far more imprecise concept to deal with as it behaves like smoke and mirrors – what you perceive is not necessarily what exists if you can perceive anything at all!
Modernity is not a myth, the myth is that most people perceive that the world is modern without any qualification – an axiomatic situation. Modernity may be the most noticeable game in town but Pisces’ myth and other Pisces’ associations are more influential in contemporary society and current affairs compared to Aquarius archetypes. Modernity only plays the supporting role to myth, yet people believe modernity is the main focus. This surreal situation is created by Pisces – the sign of delusion, illusion and vagueness overflowing into our ‘modern’ time. Pisces is the branch we are all sitting upon as our reference point which, due to the nature of Pisces, we are generally unaware. Furthermore, Pisces promotes medievalism – the name historians gave to that period before the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century.
What is medievalism? There are a number of definitions and associations to medievalism, but in general terms, it refers to that period when there were knights in white shining armor, kings, lords, dukes, barons and so on ruled the lands either benevolently or ruthlessly via a system of feudalism that resembled slavery – another archetype belonging to Pisces. It was a time when (Pisces) Christianity had an extremely strong influence in western society where the beliefs of individuals could be classified as heretical at the whim of the church followed by punishment of one form or another – including the possibility of execution.
In medieval society, logical understanding and rationality took the back seat to knee-jerk reactions and decisions based on dogmatism, chauvinism and sectarianism rather than fact – similar to how many or most contemporary politicians and governments often operate today. Facts were scarce in medieval times, and to fill the vacuum, beliefs filled the void. The time of medievalism was known as “a period contrary to reason.”[i] Anything different was generally feared, ostracized or condemned and very little accurate information was known about the laws of physics or science. Society was marked by prejudices and taboos – females were considered inferior, and people could and would believe anything – just as many follow this pattern today.
The more correct term for the current Age of Aquarius is the Age of Pisces-Aquarius, and this indicates that while medievalism is supposedly finished, it actually has continued to exist and dominates society – though feudalism has disappeared. Another difference between contemporary society and medieval society is that our society has made some progress in extracting itself from irrationality, but the main difference is our harnessing of technology since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century. This is why historians claim that medievalism finished in the 15th century and was replaced by Early Modernity. Wikipedia states that Early Modernity, based on traditional historiography, arrived in 1453 – only 20 years after the arrival of the Age of Aquarius (or Pisces-Aquarius age). Some historians claim Early Modernity arrived in 1436[ii] – displaying a scant three year error to the correct date.
Early Modernity led to Modernity around the 18th century but while historians and people, in general, congratulate themselves on modernity, this places the focus upon mainly technological developments and ignores the root medievalism that permeates contemporary western society. Just consider that at the apex of modernity supposedly sits the USA – but about 25% of Americans refute the idea of evolution and the Big Bang about 13 billion years ago, and embrace a conception of the world that has existed for only about 6,000 years. This is not the only example of contemporary medievalism. A better description of western society since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century is that we live in the age of Techno-Medievalism.
There are so many examples of contemporary medievalism in society, and when we leave western society and examine Second and Third World countries – the medievalism jumps in magnitude. One easy way to see this is that in many Second and Third World countries, religious doctrine of one sort or another is written into law and enforceable by governments – with some ‘modern’ western countries also enforcing religious doctrines usually based on some fundamentalist Christian belief. Another classic example is President Trump – irrational, often incoherent, appearing deceptive and deceitful but supported by a very large minority of voting Americans because he promises to support their values – with most of these values based on conservative belief systems sourced from medieval outlooks.
There is a very good reason why the USA embodies technological advances and democratic practices on the one hand, and atavistic belief systems with strong fundamentalist Christian overtones on the other. The USA was settled by basically medieval Europeans who brought their medieval belief systems with them. Europe continued to evolve, but their colonizing cousins who went to America held on to many of their medieval beliefs far longer than Europeans due to their ‘isolation’ from Europe. Europe at that time was at the nexus for the cutting edge of progressive developments and European society moved on somewhat. This is similar to what many 20th-century immigrants experienced when migrating from post-war Europe to the USA, Canada, Australia and so on.
For example, so many Greeks migrated to Melbourne, Australia after the Second World War that Melbourne was labeled the third largest Greek city in the world. But when many of these Greek migrants eventually returned to Greece after many decades, they were shocked to find that the Greece culture they knew and kept alive in Melbourne no longer existed – as the Greeks in Greece had continued to evolve their culture. I have heard similar stories about Pakistanis migrating to the UK.
Unless we recognize that we are not modern but live in the Age of Techno-Medievalism, we are deluding ourselves. However, this does not mean that things do not or cannot improve – the dramatic improvements I have experienced in my lifetime are awesome. No longer does religion have a stranglehold over western legal systems as it did back in the 1950s. Then there is the sexual revolution that came out of the 1960s and the decriminalization of homosexuality, abortion and the recent judicial investigations of religious sexual deviants. Recreational, and in some cases hard drugs, have been partially or completely decriminalized or approaching a medical condition rather than a legal issue in many western nations. Even Malaysia has recently acknowledged they have lost their war on drugs and plan to decriminalize drugs. Euthanasia is seeing the light of day.
The problem with the many recent social and legal improvements is that people don’t seem to notice them – their focus remains on the ills and deficiencies of contemporary society and legal systems. By analogy, it is like entering a room that urgently needed all surfaces painted. If a painter turns up to do the job, but runs out of paint before the last wall is painted – which wall will draw your attention when you enter the room? The unpainted wall of course. This is what many progressives tend to do, not acknowledge the gains and only focusing upon the ills of society.
Modernity is a development in progress. It did not wait until the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD to start splashing, but with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius – Modernity got down to the serious business of modernizing the world. But, according to the astrological ages, Modernity, and all its trappings, is a process that parallels the Aquarian age and overflow (1433 – 3574 – 5697) and furthermore, its momentum will strongly extend about another seven centuries past 5697 to c.6397 AD before it starts experiencing a serious pushback (from the Leo age-decan of the distant Sagittarius age).
Based on the above, if we take the whole period where the process of modernization is under development (1433 – 6397), a period of 4,964 years, in the year 2019 we are only 586 years inside this modernizing period. This indicates that only approximately 12% of the possible modernization to come has made its impact to date. The remaining ‘necessary’ 88% of modernization remains to be tackled. This is a very low level of modernization in our world, as the medieval influence can be argued to sit at around 88%.
The world remains at the kindergarten level of modernization (and democracy) – much more is yet to come. So the big question is – what fills the gap between contemporary modernization and the level we are to achieve over the coming millennia? It is mainly Pisces archetypes with a dash of Aries. The world remains strongly influenced by the Aries age and overflow (2916 BC – 732 BC – 1433 AD) and while the momentum from this Aries epoch continues on with its male macho aggressive influence – its days are numbered. The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) is in the process of overthrowing the vestige influence from the Aries epoch, and the recent strides females have made since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan is part of the accelerating Libra influence (which shifted into second gear in 1791). Libra is even stronger next century (when it shifts into third gear). In the meantime, we still have leaders in the world mentioning the possibility of using nuclear weapons demonstrating the ongoing legacy of violent Aries.
The Pisces epoch is defined as the Pisces age and overflow (732 BC – 1433 AD – 3574 AD), plus an additional seven centuries at the end (until it hits the might of the Virgo age-decan and especially its overflow around 2,000 years from now). Pisces is not only the sign of today, it has also passed through about 80% of its time of might and so we know a lot more about the influence of Pisces. In a nutshell, Pisces is associated with medievalism. Combine medievalism with the remnant from macho Aries and you have a popular combination for the president of the USA modeled after John Wayne. and a growing number of wannabees around the world such as the UK, Brazil and so on.
No sign is associated with only positive archetypes. The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) at the beginning of the Age of Aquarius breeds opposition. This may help explain the developing divide of progressive versus conservatives around the world – but mainly in western society at present as each side of the debate sours with increasing frustration at either lack of progress or too much progress. Another developing divide is autocratic governments (China, Russia etc) versus the ‘free’ world. These divides will grow over the coming centuries due to the increase in influence in the Libra age-decan and overflow, especially post 2148 – though the astrology does indicate the possibility of a compromise of sorts.
The currents Libra sub-age and overflow (1970 – 2148 – 2327) is accelerating toward the 2148 high point of the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius – the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863). This suggests that all those science fiction apocalyptic or doom and gloom scenarios that have presented to us about the future are actually the transformation of our current pessimistic outlooks into the future and does not take into account the ‘softening’ of the world social and political situation associated with Libra. Libra is not associated with austerity or living in caves or ruins of cities in a post-apocalyptic world due to climate change, nuclear war etc. However, it cannot be absolutely ruled out that Libra will return the world to its garden state because humanity has wiped itself out by nuclear or environmental issues before Libra extends its influence from around 2059 onward. If we survive, things look much better in the future, if we don’t, the world will improve anyway.
All the above however remains under the long term shift in emphasis from Pisces to Aquarius, and while progressive policies may fluctuate between centuries, it does not change the fundamental outlook that progress is a slow and extremely long term process. I am sure that in the middle of the next century, progressives will still be gnashing their teeth and conservatives searching for ways to trip them up. In addition, just to complicate matters, it is absurd to think that all initiatives of progressives or liberals are ‘good’ and that conservative initiatives are bad. This is an absurd gross oversimplification that would imply that progressives are better people than conservatives.
In my decades of research, I have come to the conclusion that nearly everyone believes they are doing the right thing – and promoting the best policies or outlooks for their family, community, society, nation and world regardless of their political orientation. It is important to be able to empathize with your political opponents and understand where they are coming from – because your opponent is usually equally sincere in their beliefs as you are.
In the meantime, living in the Age of Techno-Medievalism means that we must deal with a lot of backward and regressive issues due to our early position in Modernity. There is only so much modernization that can occur in every century, and we will have to realize that the sum total of modernity cannot arrive either in our lifetimes, this century – or even this millennium.
Furthermore, progressive are not anti-medieval and conservatives pro-medieval. This black and white narrative is incorrect. Every person, group and country is a mixture of medieval and rational attributes. The Greens and progressive political parties often demonstrate adherence to medieval values in their pursuit of modern progressive objectives. A classic example is Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior and its confrontational objectives. Another example is vegans breaking into animal farms and destroying property. Is it ideal to seek idealistic solutions using yesterdays’ confrontational methods? Many progressive believe so and indicates how pervasive Pisces medievalism remains out of control in our early 21st century world.
It is not good enough having progressive policies, it is also necessary to be highly conscious in dealing with opponents. For millennia to come, every Aquarius archetype that appears will be shadowed by Pisces! We all have the court jester, a knight in white shining armor, witch persecutor or damsel in distress in each of us. Instead of resorting to medieval tribalism, it is far more rational to respect political opponents and to be conscious in any dealings with them. The views of our conservative opponents are usually a reflection of their gestational social and family environment which is rarely under their control. A conservative cannot help being a conservative any more than a progressive can help being a progressive.
In conclusion, if you are a frustrated progressive, there is very little you can do to immediately correct all the ills in society other than by voting, expressing your opinions, belonging to groups engage in progressive change, participating in peaceful demonstrations etc with the understanding that progressive policies are very slow in arriving. On a recent visit by Al Gore to Australia, he stated to the effect that:
‘expected change is much slower in coming than what is expected, but when it does come, it comes much faster than expected’
Despite the need for progressives to be more realistic in the fulfillment of their expectations, what is under our control is our interrelationships with conservative people, institutions and governments and society as a whole. Gandhi captured the astrology of our times with his non-violent resistance. Non-violence also applies to the nature of our expression and treatment of people that do not agree with us. The only limit to our personal modernization is ourselves. Modernity may remain a myth for a long time to come, but our own personal or inner modernization is something we can all work on every day. The Age of Aquarius is not going to come along and deliver to us a fantasy world on a silver platter where everything is great – that is just a typical Pisces myth.
See my YouTube Channel for more details on macro-astrology and the video of the above p[ost should be available soon.
The Brexit referendum in 2016 occurred early in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) of the Gemini micro-age (2014 – 2029) of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) – the forth sub-age within the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574), and all these zodiacal signs are antithetical to the signs in the astrological signature for the UK. This suggests that Brexit will bring the UK no benefits, but for the short term, it also suggests a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t scenario due to the polarization that has occurred in the UK on this issue, very similar to the divide that has embraced the USA under President Trump. Aquarius does not favor the mainstream – it favors extremists, fringes and radicals, and politicians are taking advantage of this temporary rejection of middle-of-the-road politics in an attempt to shift the political agenda to radical or other extremist agendas. The initial impulse has mainly been towards the hard right wing and even neo-fascist side of politics – but it remains early days yet for the current Aquarius period.
My final analysis of Brexit will cover the clash between UK’s astrological signature and the signs of these times, especially the Brexit referendum while this background analysis is based on examining the UK’s performance under previous Aquarius micro-age decans (and micro-ages) as far back as the end of the Age of Pisces. This allows us to find thematic and archetypal diachronic connections that can shed light on Brexit and what it really means for the UK.
Many people think that any random development, such as Brexit, is reasonable if it agrees with their personal political views. For example, is Scotland better off as a separate country or part of the UK? To answer this, it is necessary to understand where the world is heading, because even without astrology, it is obvious that the evolution of civilization does indicate a direction to this evolution, otherwise we would be viewing the murder or killing of people on TV in replication of the Roman circus where such events were considered ‘normal’ to the spectators. There is both progress and acknowledgement that much more progress needs to occur due to numerous shortcomings with society and politics. It is easy to see the benefits and direction of progress over previous centuries and millennia, but how do we project progress into the future so that we can see how present events support or detract from the where the world is heading?
This is outside the scope of this analysis, but the astrology associated with the Age of Aquarius, suggests that the world is approaching greater aggregation, coordination and synchronization with the role of individual nations being sublimated into larger global structures, in the same way over the last millennium, small kingdoms and fiefdoms were combined to form the nation states of today. Small kingdoms and fiefdoms were a problem, and these problems were overcome by their absorption into larger structures that prevented them from fighting or undermining their neighbors. The same issue now faces nation-states that are not adequately synchronized with their neighbors and the world at large, especially in key issues such as climate change, civil rights, religious freedoms, military aggression and so on. I will be updating the last chapter in my book, The Dawning – Shedding New Light on the Astrological Ages, published in 2011, with a revised outline of the future at the first opportunity.
As previously stated, the Brexit referendum in 2016 occurred early in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is based on a five year micro-age decan followed by its overflow onto the following five year period like a wave [see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies]. In simple terms, the world rotates through five year micro-age decans representing all 12 zodiacal signs normally every 60 years (but with some minor variation at the cusp of sub-ages). Therefore all 12 signs are generally granted equal measure to influence events, and if this was solely the case, the world would just go around a merry-go-round with history constantly repeating itself. This means that democracy would usurp monarchs, only for monarchs to again usurp democracy ad infinitum.
However, the merry-go-round scenario is not strictly the case. It is due to resonance of these 5 years micro-age decans to larger periods that the relatively small micro-age decans are biased in their relative strengths with each other. Therefore, since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, any Aquarius micro-age decan (and Pisces micro-age decan) will have the edge on other micro-age decans due to resonance with the Pisces Age overflow and Age of Aquarius. Every Libra micro-age decan will also be more powerful due to resonance with the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2148). Since 1791, every Scorpio small period will resonate with the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148) and so on. It is these incremental differences between one sub-period and another that provides longer term trends in society. For example, since December 2014, the ages, sub-ages and micro-ages have, for the first time in around 7,000 years, fully aligned themselves to progressive influences but alas, also instability, and this is being played out now [see A Celebration 7,000 Years in the Making ].
The current Aquarius micro-age decan, and following two (Libra and Gemini micro-age decans) are more powerful than average, as each resonates with a larger period – Libra with the Libra age decan (1433 – 2148) and Gemini with the Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029). The larger the parent period, the greater the resonance between periods.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1373 – 1378 – 1382)
This period, set toward the end of the Pisces age (732 BC – 1433 AD), replicates the Brexit Aquarius micro-age decan inasmuch it is part of a Gemini micro-age and Cancer micro-age overflow, but all larger periods are different and they were also more favorable to the British compared to the Brexit period.
The pre-Protestant English Lollards under the Oxford scholar, John Wyclif, went on the attacked against papal authority, and due to some support from the English government, he was able to instigate virtual heresy against the Roman Catholic Church. John Wyclif promoted the reading of the Bible by ordinary people, and he was instrumental in producing the Wyclif Bible translated from Latin into Middle English.[i] Wyclif also promoted the role of the king over the pope and was an iconoclast inasmuch he opposed cherished beliefs and institutions that have become erroneous or pernicious – straight out of the Aquarius cookbook.
This small Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow demonstrates how the astrology of the astrological ages mimics and correlates to historical developments. This Aquarius period promoted revolutionary Aquarian ideals, but this period is not within the Age of Aquarius, so it does not have any real momentum behind it due to lack of resonance. However, when the next similar Aquarius period occurred, it was inside the Age of Aquarius, thus strengthening each and every Aquarian archetype resulting in not just a spat with the medieval Roman Catholic Church, but an actual split creating a completely different social-religious-political structure in Europe that lasted centuries. Resonance makes a big impact.
This Aquarius period witnessed appropriately, the English Peasants Revolt (1381) under Wat Tyler, which was initiated by widespread anger against a poll tax. Tyler led his followers on a march to London, taking Maidstown, Rochester, and Canterbury along the way. They tricked their way into London, marched down Fleet Street, beheaded a judge, archbishop and 18 leading citizens, and instigated even greater fury against the Flemish community. During negotiations with the King Richard II, the London mayor mortally struck Tyler with a sword, and the revolution was over, though the king pardoned all the assailants. Nevertheless, a major revolutionary assault was made against the British government in this early Aquarius period, and this really sets the tone for these Aquarius periods.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1468 – 1473 – 1478)
This period occurs within the Age of Aquarius and is part of a Libra micro-age. Royalty strongly figures in this period with the murder of insane King Henry VI in the Tower of London allowing for the reinstatement of Edward IV, part of the ongoing struggle between the houses of York and Lancashire and called the War of the Roses (1455 – 1487). This was definitely a period in Britain where the British royalty and therefore the government were in gross detriment which played itself out in the War of the Roses.
The full extent of the War of the Roses was probably an attribute of the Scorpio micro-age and overflow (1448 – 1463 – 1478) with Scorpio always a troublesome sign for the Taurus British. Also, the War of the Roses occurred in the Virgo sub-age decan (1433 – 1493) with Virgo opposed to Pisces, a sign that is associated with the British. Murdering the head of government continues the theme of angst between Aquarius and Leo Britain.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1523 – 1528 – 1533)
This period partly replicates the Brexit Aquarius period due to its location in a Gemini micro-age. This Aquarius period is associated with the reign of King Henry VIII including the annulment of his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon and the beginning of the English Reformation – a major revolutionary event in its day. The English Reformation is considered a part of the wider European Protestant Reformation, instigated by the (German) Martin Luther in this small Aquarius period with the new Protestants breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church and rejecting the authority of the Pope, extremely appropriate for revolutionary Aquarius. In hindsight, the Reformation was an early symptom of the newly arrived Age of Aquarius promoting democracy and rejecting (Leo) leaders, as the new Protestant churches instigated a number of democratic processes associated with congregations into its structures.
Martin Luther’s role also supports the long term association of Aquarius with Germany. In this case King Henry VIII wittingly, or unwittingly, sided with the revolutionary Luther in opposing the (Leo) might of the pope and Roman Catholic Church but for purely personal self-seeking reasons. The internal turmoil created by the English Reformation lasted until the Glorious Revolution in the following similar Aquarius micro-age decan in 1688.
This Aquarius period occurred in the lead up to the peak of the Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552), and with such strong support from Taurus, and from the Capricorn quasi sub-age (1523 – 1702), another sign favorable to the British, the greatest loser here was the external Roman Catholic Church with Britain formally leaving the fold. The Roman Catholic Church has Pisces and Scorpio at the top of its totem pole, and this Aquarius period was greatly influenced by Taurus and Virgo – both antithetical to the Christian church. The Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552) is also the same period as the overlapping Virgo sub-age decan overflow – bad news for Pisces-Scorpio Christianity.
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1582 – 1597 – 1612)
The anti-royal flavor of Aquarius quickly manifested when in 1587, Queen Elizabeth had Catholic Queen Mary beheaded. In the following year, the Spanish unleashed their invasion Armada against the British, only to have it disintegrate due to adverse weather and better tactics of the British with the Spanish losing 65 ships and 10,000 men compared to the English losing no ships and less than 100 men. Nevertheless, Queen Elizabeth scrapped with Parliament in 1593, where she asserted the monarchical right to assent or disagree with Parliament, and that religious matters and foreign affairs were the domain of the monarch. The newly elected parliamentarians from the middle class had another perspective.
The death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603 saw the thrones of England and Scotland combined under King James VI. Catholic Guy Fawkes was foiled in his attempt to kill King James VI and blow up Parliament in 1605 leading to centuries of fireworks for many British and their descendants around the world. Despite winning against the Spanish, this Aquarius period again demonstrates the traumatic events in Britain under Aquarius, and associated with a royal execution, and attempted royal murder. However, this small Aquarius period witnessed the birth of the American colonies, establishing their revolutionary spirit from birth under Aquarius.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1627 – 1632 – 1637)
This finds England under the reign of King Charles I (1600 – 1649) who believed in the divine right of kings, and so this Aquarius period witnessed a feud between the king and parliament with the general public opposed to his policies, especially taxation without parliamentary consent and his behavior as an absolute monarch. Ultimately this cost him his head. This is a straightforward anti-monarch period, but also a difficult period for the British as should be expected when Aquarius is strong.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1687 – 1692 – 1697)
The main game in town was the Glorious Revolution (1688) with the overthrow of King James II of England by a union of English Parliamentarians with the Dutch William III, Prince of Orange, who was James’s nephew and son-in-law. William’s successful invasion of England with a Dutch fleet and army led to his ascension to the throne as William III of after the Declaration of Right, leading to the Bill of Rights 1689. The initial dissent occurred due to the likelihood that King James’s Catholic son would take the British throne and therefore create the establishment of a Roman Catholic dynasty. Working with British parliamentarians, William successfully launched a large invasion fleet in 1688, and following the defeat of King James’s forces, James fled England. This revolution or invasion again indicates the ability of Aquarius to deeply undermine the integrity of Britain.
For British Catholics its effects were disastrous, both socially and politically, as for over a century Catholics were denied the right to vote and sit in Parliament; they were also denied commissions in the army, and the monarch was forbidden to be Catholic or to marry a Catholic – this latter prohibition remaining in force until 2015. Of course, the subsequent persecution of Catholics is good old Aquarius fascism. It has been argued, mainly by Whig historians, that James’s overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy: the Bill of Rights 1689 has become one of the most important documents in the political history of Britain and never since has the monarch held absolute power.[ii]
The English Bill of Rights set out certain basic civil rights and clarified royal succession and laid down limits on the powers of the (Leo) monarch and sets out the rights of (Aquarius) Parliament, including the requirement for regular parliaments, free elections, and freedom of speech in Parliament. It sets out certain rights of individuals including the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment and reestablished the right of Protestants to have arms for their defense within the rule of law. The Bill of Rights 1689 was one of the inspirations for the Bill of Rights in the USA.[iii]
This period is the source of America’s gun-toting culture as this Aquarius period was situated in the strongest part of the Aries sub-age decan and overflow (1612 – 1672 – 1731), that influenced the early years of the British settlement of North America. While the British moved on, many Americans have held fast to Aries inspired guns as the formative period for any nation is highly influential in creating national myths.
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1746 – 1761 – 1776)
This Aquarius period relates to the 20th century Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1940), and as a preview to the disastrous early 20th century for the UK, in this 18th century period, it ended with the beginning of the American War of Independence leading to the loss of its American colonies. This period also included the first war waged on a global scale, and therefore is a precursor to the two world wars in the 20th century. The Seven year’s War (1756 – 1763) went extremely well for the UK making the UK the dominant world power. This all occurred mainly in the first half of this Aquarius period, which coincides with the Pisces micro-age overflow (1746 – 1761) which probably astrologically accounts for this war as Europe always splits under Pisces, despite Pisces being its most influential sign.
The second half of this Aquarius period is closely aligned to the growing dissent within the Thirteen Colonies in North America leading to the beginning of the American Revolutionary War in 1775. This Aquarius period is located near the peak of the Sagittarius juggernaut associated with the massive Sagittarius quasi micro-age (1702 – 1881) which propelled the UK into the stratosphere. Nevertheless, the conditions that led to the loss of the thirteen colonies must be viewed as an unfortunate event for the British.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1796 – 1801)
This Aquarius period occurred in the Libra micro-age (1791 – 1806), at the very beginning of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970), and is in a period of astrological strength for the UK being at the highpoint of the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 – 1970), with a special positive and strong Sagittarius focus on the period 1791 – 1881. The UK jumped on to this Sagittarius period with the Industrial Revolution and then went on and created the greatest empire the world has ever experienced. Therefore, any difficulty experienced in an antithetical Aquarius micro-age decan is like a mouse being trod on by an elephant.
It is appropriate that this period commences with a quote from Thomas Paine “There is a dawn of reason rising in the world” as a salute to Aquarius, though it did not help him as he was executed in revolutionary France in 1794
The major issue that impacted the UK naturally was the French Revolution which was already in progress, but turned nasty under extremist Aquarius. The English and European royalty were naturally highly concerned that one of their members had been usurped by a popular revolution championing freedom and justice. This revolution found sympathizers in the UK who were subdued by the British government, one way or another. In response to Irish nationalists invigorated by the French Revolution, in 1791 the Protestants in Northern Ireland formed the Orange Society to protect their interests.
By 1792, reformers in England created organizations such as the Corresponding Society of London which called for male suffrage, annual parliaments, fairer land and legal systems, lower taxes, better education, prison reform and basic social security for the poor and elderly. In 1795 Britain invaded the Cape Colony in South Africa and subdued the revolutionary Boers who had already driven out the Dutch officials. In 1797 there were numerous mutinies in the Royal Navy perched to wage war against the revolutionary French.
Great Britain in 1793 orchestrated a union of European nations to protect the crowned heads of Europe against the French and demanded the French to restore their monarchy. As part of these frenetic times for European royalty and the status quo, the British instituted a savage response to dissenters in Scotland where the head judge decreed the British constitution was perfect, and therefore anyone proposing amendments was an enemy of state. Some revolutionary Scots were meeting their Irish counterparts in France.
By 1799, societies such as the Corresponding Society of London had been banned, their leaders imprisoned, trade unionists suppressed and newspaper heavily censored – to keep Aquarius’ fascist side invigorated. At the end of this period, Prime Minister William Pitt was forced to quit after suggesting to King George III that because of the dissolution of the Irish government and its amalgamation with Westminster, that British Catholics should be legally emancipated. This threw the mad king into a rage, and again we see the antipathy here between Aquarius and royalty – though he did not literally lose his head.
The Irish uprising and attempted French invasion of Ireland in 1798 was followed by the creation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801, and therefore the UK does have some minor inclusion of Aquarius in its astrological signature, but dwarfed by Sagittarius.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1856 – 1861)
This period is another partial replica of the Brexit-Aquarius period and found the UK in the midst of the Victorian era (1837 – 1901) and strategically located in Britain’s ‘Golden Years.’ (1850–1870). The main difference between the Aquarius period covering 1851 to 1860 compared to the current one (2014 – 2024) is that while both were also associated with a Cancer sub-age overflow, this 19th century Aquarian period was also at the peak of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1792 – 1851 – 1910) which magnifies the power of Cancer at least threefold (and probably nine fold) compared to 2014 to 2024. The absolutely strongest time for Cancer in this period was the period 1851 to 1881, tightly coinciding with Britain’s time of might (1850 – 1870), and substantiating the strong British association to Cancer through their Saxon roots. Therefore, it is necessary to weed out the Cancer influence that significantly contributed in pushing the UK to its greatest heights, and seek Aquarius in the cracks. This Aquarius period is therefore not the ideal comparison with the current one.
Britain fought alongside France in the Crimean War against Russia (1851 – 1856), and Russia has Aquarius high up its totem pole, and thus the most vexing military issue in the Victorian era was Russia, and nothing much has changed. Leo UK and Aquarius Russia were designed to be sparring partners. In the 1856 Treaty of Paris, Russia was prohibited from hosting a military presence in the Crimea and prevented from invading Turkey.[iv]
The Second Opium War saw Britain overpower the Qing dynasty in China and was the standard act of European imperialism and from the astrological context, (Leo) UK can be in fighting mode in any Aquarius period invoking the 7th house of opposition. Of course, the Second Opium War had the UK become the major drug pusher of the period. However, the UK was representative of the peak of European civilization, and this behavior was considered ‘normal’ at the time as Europeans considered that they were superior to other people around the world.
The most radical intellectual development appropriate to this Aquarius period was the publication by Charles Darwin of “On the Origin of Species” in 1859. The book aroused international interest and a widespread debate, with no sharp line between scientific issues and ideological, social and religious implications. Much of the initial reaction was hostile, but Darwin had to be taken seriously as a prominent and respected name in science. The major reactionary elements in this case was the Church, and demonstrates that in Aquarius periods, great leaps towards rationality can be made, but medieval reactionaries get fired up in defending their former positions of power.[v]
It is appropriate that in an Aquarius period, opposed to Leo ego, that that the human ego should be put back into its place. This ground breaking book was another major wedge driven between religions based on (Pisces) belief systems and (Aquarius) rationality. In the same way that in previous centuries, the Church opposed a Sun-centered solar system, with Charles Darwin suggesting that humans are related to chimpanzees, in both situations, it is the ego of humans that consider themselves superior and at the center of the universe that is undermined by Aquarian scientific advances. This exact same situation is replicated today in the issue of other evolved intelligent life existing elsewhere in the universe, with many promoting the statistically absurd notion that we are alone in the universe. The hairless chimpanzee always seems to extend its shelf life no matter how much progress towards rationality has occurred in the world. The hairless chimpanzee remains highly influential in world affairs until at least the end of the Pisces quasi-age in 2503 AD!
Another demonstration of Aquarius was the Indian Rebellion of 1857, known in India and Pakistan more correctly as the First War of Independence, which was a major uprising in India during 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company. This is a classic example of (Leo) imperial power squashing the rights of people, and treating them as second class citizens due to their different race. Unfortunately, the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow combined with the Sagittarius sub-age overflow greatly favored the imperialism of Great Britain at this point of time, who naturally considered that they were superior. A good argument can be made that the Leo aura associated with the British royalty, has over the centuries, descended to the average British person who feel that they are also somehow superior, and why would superior people need to be bound to their neighbors in the European Union?
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 -1925 – 1940)
Apart from the calamitous two world wars, and loss of the largest empire the world has experienced to date, the prime archetypal event of the period was the abdication in 1936 by King Edward VIII. He seemed enamored by Aquarius archetypes due to his “apparent disregard for established constitutional conventions” followed by his proposal of marriage to a woman who had already been married twice – obviously a hanging offense in staid conservative UK in the 1930s. Aquarius likes tripping up staid conservatives. Due to the impossible position he found himself in, Edward VIII simply abdicated and became one of the shortest-reigning monarchs in British history. He appeared to have also been captivated by Hitler’s cult, and even gave a full Nazi salute in 1937 while visiting Germany.[vi] Aquarius fans the fires of fascism and progress.
However, this Aquarius period witnessed the opening scene for Britain’s “Darkest Hour”, coined by British prime minister Winston Churchill to describe the period of World War II between the Fall of France in June 1940 and the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 when the UK was under threat of imminent invasion. This says enough of the antipathy of Aquarius to the UK. This technically was not in the Aquarius micro-age decan, but it was due to the UK taking its eye off the ball in the 1930s that they almost lost their eye and ball as well. The British can be at the height of their collective stupidity in an Aquarius period, and the lead up to the Second World War was a classic example of this innate British stupidity.
To be contextually correct, the two world wars were not solely due to this Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow, but to the far more powerful Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) with the most powerful quarter ruling the period 1910 – 1940. This already powerful Pisces sub-age decan and overflow resonated with the super-massive Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3574) and this strength of Pisces will not be replicated in the world for around another 25,000 years. Europe is primarily ruled by Pisces, but whenever Pisces is strong, not only is there a focus upon Europe, but also on the two fish swimming in opposite directions. Europe always splits under Pisces, and both world wars demonstrated again this massive and major split endemic to Europe (and passed along to the USA). World wars are not a one-in-every-hundred-year event, but require a massive astrological underpinning – though in reality, apart from Japan in the Second World War, both world wars were really two European wars of self-destruction – entirely appropriate for Pisces. Also, the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) sits at the 12th house position to Pisces.
The common themes of these Aquarius periods are: trauma, such as attempted and actual invasions and revolutions; overthrow or assault on the monarch/government (including murder, executions and abdication) and loss, such as the American colonies and British Empire – combined with the extreme loss of clarity in the lead up to the Second World War, where it tried to appease Hitler (an extremely hard right and fascist leader), and now repeating this process on a smaller scale with the same lack of clarity in holding the Brexit referendum to appease the hard right politicians in the UK. The UK, and its previous incarnations, is rarely on hallowed ground under Aquarius. There is absolutely no support to the concept that the Brexit imbroglio is a strengthening or positive step for the UK based on the previous association of Britain to previous Aquarius micro-ages or micro-age decans. The exact opposite is indicated – the UK is usually in dire circumstances in these small Aquarius periods, even though this was self-inflicted due to the Tory government under Prime Minister Cameron trying to appease the hard right politicians in his party. Prime Minister Cameron, along with many people, was shocked by the outcome of the referendum, in the same way that the majority of Americans were shocked by the election of Donald Trump as president. One attribute of Aquarius is its ability to shock. The current Aquarius period remains emergent, so expect even greater lightening bolts from December 2019 onward when it goes into its more powerful overflow mode. We have seen the effects of reactionary politics under Trump and Brexit, but the reaction to the reactionary side usually follows.
Some astrologers have a problem linking Scorpio to terrorists, but a simple examination of a scorpion with its stinging tail attacking whatever comes into its path seems a fitting archetypal description of a terrorist. Furthermore, terrorist do not behave like exposed (Aries) armies, they hide like (Scorpio) spies. However, theory is never the ruling paradigm in astrology – it is always evidence, either from statistical sources or traditional astrological methodology. Whenever a Scorpio period appears, terrorist activity escalates. This is why terrorism is ruled by Scorpio!
The following graph indicates the total fatalities from terrorism from 1970 to 2016.
The above graph displays a peak in 2014 (43,566 fatalities), with fatalities mildly dropping away in 2015 (38,464) and continuing this trend in 2016 (34,676). The biggest peak in fatalities earlier than 2014 was in 2007 (12,858), and if we take the period 2007 to 2014, this coincidentally or otherwise, correlates with most of the Scorpio sub-age decan and overflow (Jan 2005 – Jan 2010 – Dec 2014). [See: Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details on the mechanics of the astrological ages]
The Scorpio sub-age decan and overflow, as with all ages and sub-periods of the ages, is not homogenous, and can be likened to the monthly lunation cycle. As with the four phases of the Moon, each age and sub-period have four stages, but there are differences between these stages. The first stage is always the weakest. For example, the Age of Aquarius and its overflow (1433 – 3574 – 5697) has four stages, the first stage (1433 – 2506) is the weakest stage for Aquarius in the Age of Aquarius. This is the stage the world currently finds itself located within.
In striking contrast, this same timeframe is stage 3 of the Pisces age and overflow (732 BC – 1433 AD – 3574) and stage 3 is the strongest of all the stages. Stage 3 (1433 to 2506) marks the 1073 years which is the most powerful period for Pisces in the 26,000 year cycle of the astrological ages. This is why, despite being in the rational Age of Aquarius, the world is more influenced by the Pisces age overflow (until 2506 AD) – and so Pisces ruled archetypes such as the USA, Europe, corporations, religious beliefs, drugs, oceans, chemical weapons and plastics appear to have a greater influence upon the world compared to Aquarian archetypes.
The four stages of the Scorpio sub-age decan and overflow:
Jan 2005 – Jul 2007
Jul 2007 – Jan 2010
Jan 2010 – Jul 2012
Jul 2012 – Dec 2014
Excluding the first and weakest of the above stages, this leaves the remaining three stronger stages affecting the period July 2007 to December 2014, which is closely aligned to the peak in terrorism fatalities as indicated in the above graph.
There are other astrological influences possibly influencing the above graph promoting 2014 such as the end of the Cancer micro-age (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014) or the beginning of the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029). Alternatively, the Cancer micro-age is exactly the same period as the Leo micro-age overflow, so it is also possible that the downturn in fatalities is linked to the substantially reduced influence of Leo after 2014?
Based on the evidence, it appears that all these three possible influences may contribute to the drop in terrorist fatalities, but probably only in minor ways. The biggest growth in terrorist fatalities since the arrival of the Cancer micro-age in 2000 is in the Middle East, and the Middle East is ruled by Cancer, and so the above graph does seem to show the increasing fatalities in the Middle East since the arrival of the Cancer micro-age. However, this increase is modest before 2007 to 2014.
The disappearance in December 2014 of Leo as an active player is hard to reconcile with terrorist fatalities as Leo is not normally associated with either terrorists or fatalities. Leo however, does sit at the 10th house position to Scorpio, so perhaps the departure of Leo is linked to the demotion of terrorists as perceived “leaders”? If this is the case, it is probably a marginal reason for the decrease in terrorist fatalities.
Finally, what about the arrival of Gemini at the end of 2014? Gemini does sit in the 12th house position to Cancer, suggesting that the influence of the Middle East (associated with Cancer) has entered a 12th house ending phase. The arrival of ISIS in full regalia could even be considered a self-made problem for the Middle East as the arrival of the Gemini micro-age in December 2014 is remarkably synchronous with the beginning of the peak of ISIS – which by December 2015 held a large area in western Iraq and eastern Syria including the city of Mosul. Its main target was Muslims who just had the misfortune of living in Iraq or Syria. This could be construed as a 12th house self-made problem within Islam, though, without acknowledging the gross destabilization of the Middle East with the invasion of Iraq by the USA and its allies in 2003, and the absolute waste of trillions of dollars to undertake this useless folly, it’s hard to see how the self-made problem was limited to the Middle East.
I have not done any thorough research on Korea, but I have tentatively associated Gemini with Korea, as the split in Korea forming North and South Korea occurred in the opposite Sagittarius micro-age (1940 – 1955), and civil wars often occur when an active sign is opposite a key sign in a country’s astrological signature. Just having Korea split into two is indicative of Gemini. The increasing focus on the Korean peninsula in recent times aligned with the arrival of the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) supports this Gemini association.
The USA can never be comfortable in any Cancer period as sitting just below Pisces and Aquarius on its totem pole, sits the sign Capricorn. Capricorn explains many of the arch-conservative social and political polices of the descendants of the self-made Puritans who arrived in America towards the end of the Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612) but mainly in the more powerful Capricorn sub-age overflow (1612 – 1791). The Puritans are ruled by Capricorn.
Currently, the main adversaries of the USA include China and the Middle East with both ruled by Cancer. Cancer is also strong in the astrological signature of Russia. The USA has taken umbrage at another Cancer country, New Zealand, for refusing entry of its warships as New Zealand declared itself a nuclear free zone and the USA will not declare which of its naval vessels have nuclear weapons. American right-wing politicians regularly denounce the strong and successful socialism of Scandinavian countries – with Scandinavia ruled by Cancer – the sign of the common people.
The American Civil War occurred in the most potent stage 3 (1851 – 1881) of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970). This antipathy between Capricorn and Cancer explains why the USA was attacked and humiliated by the 9/11 attack very close to the beginning of the Cancer micro-age (2000 – 2014) as the Cancer 7th house focusses upon the opponent, Islam and the Middle East.
Americans should beware of the astrological birthday of the American Civil War as it is just around the corner. The American Civil War (1861 -65) occurred towards the end of the last Gemini micro-age (1851 – 66) associated with either the Gemini micro-age decan or Libra micro-age decan overflow with both covering the period May 1861 to April 1866.
The same period next decade is November 2024 – November 2029, but while the micro-age and micro-age decans will be identical to the American Civil War, the Cancer influence is only from the 15 year Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029), and not the massive 59 year Cancer sub-age decan overflow (1851 – 1910) associated with the Civil War. Therefore, while the astrology does not suggest a civil war for the USA next decade, it does indicate a major political stress zone similar to the lead up to the American Civil War. It appears that the political atmosphere in the USA will remain and get even more tumultuous before it gets better! Fortunately, the first coup or destabilization of the integrity of the United States government is not expected until around the middle of the next century at the cusp of the Libra and Gemini age-decans. Age-decan cusps have a highly consistent history of destabilisation – especially for age-empires like the USA.
Once the almost 30 years Cancer micro-age and overflow concludes in 2029, the emphasis should severely shift away from the Middle East, and it may also drop with regards to China. The second sign on China’s totem pole is Libra (including much of Asia), and with the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) we should expect that China maintains its new and highly influential role in world affairs, but with the absence of the Cancer period, the intensity should drop off (for a while).
Cancer is being replaced with the overlapping Gemini micro-age and overflow (2014 – 2029 – 2044) but underpinned by the massive Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088). This does suggest that the Korean peninsula may be a longer and more entrenched problem compared to the Middle East, or that there is a stronger and longer focus upon the Korean peninsula in the coming decades for better or worse. Gemini also rules Iraq and Syria (probably due to the hangover from Mesopotamia – the age-empire of the Gemini-Taurus age). Gemini should also produce an increase in stridency from students and youth, something that we have recently seen with the anti-gun movement in the USA, and as early as 1989 with the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre in China. Gemini, sitting at the lowly 4th house to Pisces, is a difficult sign for Pisces-Aries Europe and Pisces-Aquarius USA and sits at the difficult 12th house position to China’s primary sign of Cancer.
We have already seen some fragmentation of Europe with the UK’s Brexit and the growth of neo-fascism in some of the eastern European nations, with some of these nations expressing a desire for further distance from the European Union, and the USA appears to be on the path back towards isolationism. Trump’s pitch to the USA ‘homeland’ is therefore unlikely to be a transient phenomenon, as the USA has periodically preferred isolationism. Regardless of any sustain isolationist tendencies in the coming decades, the emphasis on the USA’s 4th house does not suggest raising the flag of the USA high up the mast in world affairs. It is probably a significant astrological factor why the USA gets egg on its face when it has attacked other nations since Gemini arrived in 1970 – commencing with the Viet Nam War. Furthermore, the USA tangibly rode the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 – 1970) to economic and political glory indicating a strong affinity between the American psyche and Sagittarius. This suggests that the American psyche is in for hard times under Gemini, apart from Gemini activating the 4th house of Pisces.
After taking into account the influence of Cancer, Leo and Gemini associated with the drop in terrorist fatalities, the greatest likelihood is that the drop in terrorist fatalities since 2014 is due to the end of the almost 10 year Scorpio influence (Jan 2005 – Jan 2010 – Dec 2014). Some readers may complain that there seems to be a spurt of terrorist activities lately, and this can adequately be accounted for by the appearance of a 10 month Scorpio nano-age decan and overflow (Jun 17 – Nov 17 – Apr 18) of the Pisces nano-age (Jun 17 – Sep 18), the third nano-age in the current Gemini micro-age (2014 – 29). Fortunately, this Scorpio influence should now be at an end, or almost so.
Note: The above ephemeris has the Gemini micro-age commencing in 2015, but since this ephemeris was produced in 2013, I have fine-tuned the timing, and it turns out that the Gemini micro-age commenced in December 2014. This ephemeris will be updated ASAP.
Over the many decades I have been doing astrological readings and predictions, the main insight I have reaped is that predictions are usually not necessary – because the average person does not have an objective assessment about what is happening to them NOW! What is the point of discussing the future in two months, two years or two decades if my client is confused about what is happening to them now?
The same applies to the astrology of the world, with the main difference being that the average person also has a totally confused picture of the past, is flummoxed by the present and is too exhausted to consider the future. I remember reading one survey about a decade ago that said the average understanding of history in the USA began with the TV series The Simpsons first aired in 1989. Anything before that date is just a fog.
Out of this historical quagmire, many astrologers claim that the Age of Aquarius commenced in the 1960s or 70s because the opening song in the musical Hair proudly proclaimed “This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius…”. Other astrologers are equally confused and befuddled by stating that the previous Age of Pisces commenced with the life of Jesus Christ not realizing that both these statements cannot be simultaneously true because ages are about 150 years longer than 2,000 years. Many astrologers solve this problem by arbitrarily rounding each astrological age to exactly 2,000 years each because they need nice and tidy years for each age. This is how the influence of the Pisces age affects astrologers and astrology.
In the current Age of the Mobile Phone, where so much news, fake news, information and disinformation comes hurtling at our brains at an accelerating speed, this article is appropriately about flitting small periods within the Age of Aquarius that exist for just a few months. Think of and old fashion clock with an hour, minute and second hand. The hour hand allegorically represents the astrological ages of some 2,150 years each, the minute hand represents sub-ages of around 178 years each and the second hand represents micro-ages of some 15 years each. [See Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details on the mechanics of the astrological ages]
What I am examining in this article is the missing forth hand of the clock, which if it existed, represents each second again divided by 60. These represent nano-ages, and each nano-age is approximately 15 months in length. Most people reading this will be astrologers, so you should understand “decanates” commonly abbreviated to “decans”, and not to be confused with or pronounced like a church “deacon” – it’s been many a century since a deacon was allowed to study astrology, or at least publicly.
Decans allow us to divide sign-based periods into thirds – so if a nano-age is almost 15 months, a nano-age decan is about 5 months. These incredibly small periods within an age are nevertheless highly noticeable in the constant stream of discordant information, scandal and intrigue that we call the news. Many, if not the majority, of major news items that parade before us daily, are actually archetypally linked to these nano-ages and nano-age decans. You cannot see this connection if you do not know the nano-age and nano-age decan ephemeris or astrological archetypes!
For the purposes of this article, I am demonstrating the ephemeris in a semi-graphical fashion because all ages and their sub-periods (all the way down to nano-age decans) behave like waves or the monthly lunar cycle. Due to the ages and all sub-periods moving through the zodiac in the reverse of the normal order, all ages and sub-periods are at their strongest at their end, and weakest at their beginning. When a period comes to an end, this strength does not magically disappear but ‘breaks’ over the following period like a wave… or more like a tsunami. This wave is so strong, that it ‘manifest’ more in the following period than its own period, and both influence mingle.
Even though we are well and firmly in the Age of Aquarius, the influence from the Age of Pisces (Pisces age overflow) is even stronger. This is why so many astrologers believe we are in some kind of transition between the Age of Pisces and Age of Aquarius because archetypes belonging to both Pisces and Aquarius are so strong in the world. However, unknown to most astrologers, there is never a time when the transitional influence of one age does not interact with the previous age due to the wavelike nature of ages and their sub periods. [See Age of Aquarius for Dummies ]
Currently, most of the world is more involved with (Pisces) belief systems, especially religious belief systems, than they are about Aquarius rationality. Too many people will die for their unproven and unsubstantiated beliefs – or try and force these beliefs upon other people. About 25% of Americans actually reject evolution and firmly believe that God created the world about 6,000 years ago. The influence from the Pisces age overflow rarely brings (Virgo) clarity and discrimination. However, Aquarius is associated with democracy, freedom, liberalism, flight and rationality and no one can deny the effect Aquarius is also having upon the world.
Even many astrologers get caught up in astrological belief systems, and some claim that the Pisces age is the Pisces-Virgo age, which will be followed by the Aquarius-Leo age – as if the opposite sign somehow gets strengthened. There is no evidence in any other branch of astrology that this occurs. For example, in a Pisces lunar month, Virgo is in detriment and anything ruled by Virgo is prone to have problems or hit a red light. When transiting Jupiter is in Scorpio, luck deserts Taurus! The Age of Aquarius is not the bipolar Aquarius-Leo age but the Pisces-Aquarius age followed by the Aquarius-Capricorn age. The Aquarius influence therefore is strongly associated with two full ages – a period of some 4,300 years – or what I call the Aquarius eon.
Examining the above graphic ephemeris and starting from the top down, we can see that the major influence is from Aries (all the red areas) with Scorpio strongly intruding. In the mid-section, we can clearly see that in November 2017, we remain are firmly in the Aries quasi nano-age (Nov 16 – Feb 18) and the Aries nano-age overflow (Jun 17 – Sep 18). This places the world in the most potent 3rd quarter of this full Aries period (Mar 16 – Jun 17 – Sep 18) and the 3rd quarter is always the most potent quarter.
Even though the Pisces nano-age (Jun 17 – Sep 18) has also arrived, it remains in its weakest quarter, though it is starting to manifest (e.g. the discovery in November 2017 that Uber had been hiding the fact that its customer and driver data was massively hacked in late 2016). While the new Pisces period may be at its weakest stage, this does not apply to its nano-age decans, because the first nano-age decan peaked in November 2017. The Scorpio nano-age decan and overflow (Jun 17 – Nov 17 – Apr 18) is in its most powerful 3rd quarter (Nov 17 – Feb 18), so we should also be seeing good examples of Scorpio also strongly manifesting in the news.
This Scorpio nano-age decan and overflow also has a punch above its size due to resonance. This very small Scorpio period is occurring within the much larger and stronger Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2148) with the larger and far more powerful Scorpio period in its most potent 3rd quarter (1970 – 2059). Therefore, we can expect more from any small Scorpio period compared to most other small periods associated with other signs.
There is also a relationship between Aries and Scorpio because in traditional western astrology, both these signs were ruled by Mars – the god of war, conflict, sport, public health (or strength) & construction. While the current Aries nano-age and overflow has gone against the last few Aries nano-ages inasmuch as no regional war has been declared (the two Gulf wars occurred in the last two Aries nano-age periods), we have experienced the standoff between the USA and North Korea – with both sides behaving like boxers keen and eager to enter the ring for a real fight. However, even this incident brings in Scorpio, because Scorpio rules nuclear weapons, and this tension is brought about by North Korea’s growing and developing nuclear ambitions.
One of the classic events strongly associated with both Aries and Scorpio was the killing by Stephen Paddock of 58 people with 546 injured in Las Vegas making this the deadliest mass shooting perpetrated by a lone gunman in U.S. history. Before examining in detail more specific news items of note in 2017, some developments sit under the radar but remain highly potent and noticeable by the general public. In this case, I am referring to the Harvey Weinstein affair which came to light in early October 2017 – just as Scorpio was achieving its greatest strength. A number of prominent women have recently made a number of sexual harassment and misconduct claims against Harvey Weinstein, and this avalanche of built up resentment has flowed over to other prominent people around the world.
“Dozens of women have accused Weinstein, a leading Hollywood producer, of sexual harassment, assault or rape. Police are investigating in the US and abroad. Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.”
This has spread to judge Roy Moore running for the vacant Senate race in Alabama in the wake of allegations that he preyed on teenagers. Other prominent people are getting caught in the new witch-hunt: the Democratic senator and former Saturday Night Live cast member, Al Franken, of Minnesota has been accused by four women of inappropriate touching; accusations made against the 88-year-old Democratic representative John Conyers, who is accused of using taxpayer money to settle cases with women who accused him of sexual misconduct. Fox News is promoting similar allegations against Bill Clinton.
These incidences are the tip of the iceberg and even in Australia, a very high profile star from the 1980s and 90s, Don Burke (from the TV series Burkes Backyard) has been caught out due to an overwhelming numbers of accusations against him due to his inappropriate sexual advances against a number of women. Many politicians, and men from around the world have subsequently fallen foul since the Weinstein affair commenced including British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon.
“The most comprehensive EU-wide study on sexual harassment, (based on interviews with 42,000 women, across 28 member states, and published in 2014), showed that between 45% and 55% of women had experienced some form of sexual harassment since the age of 15.”
What this tells us is that the situation has been entrenched in our male-dominated society for centuries, if not millennia, but what is relevant is that under the signs of Aries and Scorpio, some of the dirty washing is coming out on display. Weinstein had a date with fate. Aries promotes maleness and Scorpio sex, so the combination of these two has created the correct environment. However, this combination appears around every 12 or 13 years, so there must be more than just the Aries nano-age and Scorpio nano-age decan involved?
Digging deeper into the above graphic ephemeris, something else occurred in 2017 of note – we entered the more powerful Aquarius quasi micro-age decan (June 2017 – June 2022), part of the larger Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), which among other things, has given us President Trump as a gift or poison chalice (Aquarius always favors extremists on both sides of the ledger). Another sign strongly associated with males is Leo, and so in an Aquarius period, opposition to (Leo) males should be expected. Furthermore, Aquarius is a revolutionary sign and likes to upset the status quo, and the status quo is that many males feel they have the right to sexually molest and intimidate women. This is now being opposed. This strength of Aquarius has not been seen for almost 100 years, and the last time around it produced Hitler, Mussolini etc.
Digging even deeper is the fact that the world is in the most potent 3rd quarter of the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029) with this potent third quarter empowering the period 2014 to 2022. Cancer is one of two key signs for women, so this strengthens women and their concerns. With Cancer also in opposition to Capricorn, the sign of the successful ‘elder’ or older male, we can therefore see that the signs are ganging up against sexually predatory males especially those that are prominent, older or highly successful. A Cancer period of this strength has not been around since the time of the suffragettes in their quest for female political rights. It is only after taking all these minor periods into account that we can see Weinstein’s, and his fellow travelers, date with fate.
This year is also the astrological anniversary of the 1854 founding of the Republican Party in the USA. As a birthday present, they control both houses of Congress and the presidency, and taking every opportunity to stack the US Supreme Court with conservative judges. In a recent survey, it found that the majority of US Republicans, even if they are also evangelical Christians, did not think that a politician with predatory sexual behavior, was a problem.

Of the above 42 newsworthy items associated with 2017 to date, only 4 items don’t have a clear-cut relationship with Aries or Scorpio.
This time next year it will be a totally different story as Pisces will be the short term reigning sign, so we can expect stock market bubbles (followed eventually by the inevitable crash), corruption, issues associated with multi-national corporations and corporations in general, especially when combined with deceit and deception. With Pisces the number one sign for the USA, expect that the USA will be temporarily back in the international driver’s seat for better or worse? Pisces also rules Hollywood and the acting profession plus race relations in the USA. The Pisces-orientated European Union may also be temporarily strengthened or highlighted in some way. Pisces rules the oceans, and according to the astrological ages, the most affected part of the planet from climate change over the coming centuries will be the oceans, so we can expect some new deteriorating elements associated with the welfare of our oceans (and Pisces’ wild animals). Drowning Pacific island nations may become more vocal about their plight. Fake news or anti-news can only increase in intensity under Pisces. Drugs are always strongly associated with Pisces and so more developments in legalization, prohibition and the Opioid Epidemic engineered by corporate drug pushers.
Residents of the UK and elsewhere are decidedly upset at the new style of terrorism in their midst from ISIS aligned malcontents. With Manchester, London, Notre Dame, Melbourne (Australia), Kabul, Baghdad, Tehran and so on, it seems that every week more atrocities appear. There is a reason for this heightened round of terrorism and it has to do with Aries.
While most astrologers and people are confused about what age the world is currently passing through, we are actually passing through the Age of Aquarius. Ever since the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 15th century, rebellion, democratic reforms and progressive socio-political movements have flourished – mainly in Western culture – beginning in earnest with Oliver Cromwell in England.
The Age of Aquarius is the Age of Progress but people and societies are by nature conservative, and as a result, conservative orientated governments do all they can to prevent progress from occurring in their patch. This is why most reforms are hard fought and can drag out of decades, if not centuries. The newly elected president of the USA has been elected from the core base of conservative American voters, and he is doing his level best to reverse as many progressive changes as possible. This will be as futile as trying to stop the tide coming in with only a plastic bucket and spade. (see “A Celebration 7,000 Years in the Making” )
Imagine how people will view our time 1,000 years from now. If you want this perspective, take a look at the world in 1017 and see what our glorified barbarian “civilized” ancestors were doing one thousand years ago (in the Age of Pisces). We will probably be seen as the cusp of the clash between primitive civilization with lots of technology leading to progressive civilization. As long as war, conflict, open violence between countries and unnecessary deaths from drought or diseases remains, we are still in the world of primitive civilization even if we can watch Netflix. It could be argued that people’s focus upon their mobile devices is equivalent to ostriches having their head in the sand.
In every astrological age, a specific place was ‘favored’. Under the Age of Gemini it was Mesopotamia (Iraq), under Taurus it was Ancient Egypt, under Aries it was Ancient Rome, and under Aquarius it is Western culture specifically focused upon the USA but with Europe in the mix. Whichever region or culture the astrological gods temporarily favor, there resides good fortune (to a certain extent). The astro gods have favored western culture since the 15th century which is why history books call the 15th century the beginning of modernity in Western culture. Historians know more about ages than astrologers.
As the temporary leading culture, it is up to Western society to set the tone, because the actions of the leading culture filters out to the rest of the world like the wake from the bow of a boat. Is Western culture setting a good example? Did Western culture, spearheaded by the Anglo-Saxon nations headed by the USA, do good when they invaded Iraq in 2003? Hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and possibly up to one million people were killed subsequent to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. If, as an American, British, Australian or citizen of some other Western nation, what would you do if your country was invaded and occupied by a foreign power and up to one million of your fellow citizens killed? Now many people would just acquiesce but some patriotic souls would develop some retaliatory measure like the Free French partisans when their country was attacked and occupied by the Nazi Germans in the Second World War.
Did ISIS appear out of nowhere for no reason? Or was the creation of this organization and similar ones the result of numerous injustices heaped upon them including the callous murder of so many innocent people in the Middle East by ‘enlightened’ Western invaders led by that champion of freedom – the USA? Would ISIS even exist today if the Americans had not led their churlish and irrelevant war against Iraq in 2003? This is just one example of what can create anger which organizations such as ISIS can both exploit and take to extremes. The ongoing European Jewish invasion of Palestine over the last one and a half centuries is supported by Western nations and demonstrates very clearly to the residents of the Middle East that they are treated as dogs. Some progressive Western nations and politicians have become aware of this iniquity.
Listening to the news today about the growing number of atrocities committed by deranged individuals, criminals and small groups influenced by ISIS feels like the world has collectively fallen prone to Alzheimer’s disease and cannot remember last year, let alone 2003. The inability of the USA led West to perceive their own complicity in the unrest of today, specifically in the Middle East, is what causes war and further conflicts. Does selling billions of dollars of arms to the medieval Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, that stills beheads its citizens and subjugates its women, lead to peace in the Middle East? The Trump instigated ‘blockade’ of Qatar by many surrounding countries has one neighboring country threatening 15 years imprisonment to any of its citizens expressing support for Qatar. This is just political moral corruption to the nth degree by the USA and this is not limited to Trump, it has been going on for decades, if not over a century.
Fortunately, from the astrological perspective, the world is heading away from this momentum of stupidism that the world is addicted to, but at a snail’s pace. With Trump in the White House, it can even be argued that the snail as currently accelerating backwards, but this aberrant behavior can only last a small time. Fortunately, the astro tide in the medium and long term is heading in the forward direction. Trump and his followers cannot stop the Age of Aquarius.
Currently the world is in the same astrological configuration as the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. In the previous Cancer micro-age (2000 – 2014) were 12 nano-ages, and the Aries nano-age and overflow (Aug 2002 – Nov 2003 – Jan 2005) included the invasion of Iraq from 20 March to 1 May 2003. The current Aries nano-age and overflow (Mar 2016 – June 2017 – Sep 2018) is in the Gemini micro-age (2014 – 2029). The bad news is that when Aries is prominent, war, discord and conflict is always at a higher level. With June 2017 the apex of the current Aries period, it is unfortunately associated with what seems like a growing spate of terrorist attacks around the world. The intensity of Aries is at its strongest level from June 2017 until February 2018 and so we must expect more terrorism at a much higher level than normal for the next 8 months.
There is a silver lining (so far) for the current increase in terrorist attacks. Usually these Aries nano-ages bring a regional war where instead of the dead in each attack in the single or double digits, in the last two Aries periods, it was in the tens and hundreds of thousands associated with the two Gulf Wars. However, as one of my astute friend stated, those killed or injured ‘did not count because they were not one of us!’ (See “What is in Store for Trump & the USA in 2017?” for more background details)
If the West wants to set an example, it must stop killing other people to further their economic, military or religious biases as a starting point. Currently the USA is bombing civilians in Mosul, Iraq – this is merely collateral damage from the western perspective. Unfortunately, this will remain the degraded international socio-political reality for some decades to come, but even now, the light at the end of the tunnel can be glimpsed.
On the political front, we had Bernie Sanders in the USA and Jeremy Corbyn in the UK. Last weekend I read in a Murdoch newspaper a report by a shocked journalist that Jeremy Corbin had 35% support from the UK voting public. Shock and horror, how can this many people turn their back on the modern capitalist dream as promoted by Fox News? Corbin, like Sanders in the USA in 2016, expressed basically the same progressive political and economic policies intended to reign in extreme capitalism and promote socialist ideals for the benefit of the less wealthy half of society.
Socio-political change is slow, but interestingly, as of June 2017, the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) has just changed from first to second gear stepping up the intensity of Aquarius in the world. We can expect further movement towards the progressive future for the rest of this Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow, especially in the period Dec 2019 to Jun 2022 when it shifts into third gear. We can also expect growing strident opposition from reactionary political forces such as Trump, le Pen and conservative populace politicians everywhere. In any Aquarius period, the mainstream or middle-of-the-road perspective suffers and extremists on the left (progressive) and right (conservative) can gain far more traction and support compared to ‘normal’ times. (see “This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan” ). Which direction each country veers depends upon their evolutionary stage. Immature democracies tend towards the fascist (disctatorial) conservative end such as the Philippines under President Duterte.
Unfortunately, this Aquarius orientation towards extremes or fringes also promotes “revolutionaries” who are at war with mainstream (Leo) society. The fact that the current Aquarius period sits under the shadow of the larger Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029) places the focus firmly (but not exclusively) upon the Cancer aligned Middle East. (see “Cancer – the New Paradigm for the World” ) Therefore, it is hard to see that while the USA and the West continue to pour volatile fuel upon the Middle East, via abhorrent arrangements with their despotic leaders, that there will be any change in the current terrorism scenario. It’s a case of “you reap what you sow”.
To the average western person, the above kind of perspective is outside their scope of understanding even though it is expressed overly simplified in this article. The average western person knows they are ‘good’ and their society is ‘good’, so why are these bad people trying to attack and kill them? This is why a significant proportion of western society can be attracted to knee-jerk populace policies which can breed further antagonism that further feed the discontented urban terrorists in their midst. While the blind lead the blind, the world we live in will remain as it is and has been for the last thousands of years.
In conclusion, for the rest of 2017 at least, we will experience more violence and conflict under Aries than what was previously considered normal, but it is very possible that this round of Aries may avoid a significant size regional war and focus upon urban terrorism instead? It is still early days for Aries, and based on the immaturity of too many world leaders, a mid-level conflict may still erupt. While the short term future looks bleak, the medium to long term future shines in comparison. (see “The Silent Revolution” )
My major research on the astrological ages was published in 2011 with the focus upon astrological ages of the Holocene Epoch commencing with the Cancer Age (9600 – 7350 BC). The original research also included age-decans, quasi-ages and quasi-age decans (see “Age of Aquarius for Dummies” at http://ow.ly/ZXBwr ). My original plan in 2011 was to also include sub-ages, but at 396 pages, I dropped sub-ages as apart from probably doubling the size of the book, it also may have delayed publication by at least two years. I have been researching and writing about sub-ages and sub-age decans for around the last two years in fits and starts and have come to realize that while the conclusion to the research and publication of the book of sub-ages is highly desirable, it is another marathon multi-year project. Therefore, I have decided to break the sub-age project into bite-size pieces and progressively make this research available as each part reaches draft status.
Instead of writing a book on sub-ages, I will write four books, one each on the sub-ages of the same element. My first book will be fire sub-ages (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) and the plan is to then follow through with earth sub-ages, air sub-ages and conclude with water sub-ages. This arrangement only came into focus after writing about the Aries sub-ages, and then discovering that I had to cover the same ground when researching Leo sub-ages and Sagittarius sub-ages. This is because each Aries sub-age also includes a Leo and Sagittarius sub-age decan, each Leo sub-age includes Aries and Sagittarius sub-age decans while each Sagittarius sub-age includes Aries and Leo decans. In reality, all signs of the same element work together in sub-ages and their decans and to isolate sub-ages to their primary sign only does not accurately portray how their energies synthesize to produce the most accurate correlation to the historical events and unfolding current events.
The major difference between what I am making freely available now and what ultimately will be published is that I am only focusing upon sub-ages, and apart from a passing reference to sub-age decans, these will be ignored at this point of time. This will also simplify the process for the average astrologer who, by and large, is floundering at the concept of the Age of Aquarius arriving in the 15th century, let alone dealing with sub-ages. Sub-age decans just may be one step too far and too fast.
Another reason I plan to publish my research on sub-ages and sub-age decans in a piecemeal fashion is due to the current sub-age decan. The Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029) is great for fake news, social media, handheld phones and devices, the growth of cities but on the other side of the coin sits short term attention spans and a lack of focus upon serious reading. The following is a summary only of the material available in the attached Adobe Acrobat pdf file.
My sub-age research commences with the arrival of the Aries age in 2918 BC as historical accuracy before this time is far too vague. However, I do seek out some vestiges of sub-ages before the arrival of the Aries age in 2918 BC. Since 2918 BC, there have only been two Aries sub-ages, and despite the fact that about 2,000 years separate these two Aries sub-ages, a common theme is experienced from both. The following is a summary only of the attached file which provides a detailed analysis of these two Aries sub-ages.
A number of diverse archetypes are associated with Aries but with a common underlying theme – raw energy. This raw energy is readily seen in the combination of military leaders and massive warfare on the one side, and cultural florescence on the other. Into this mix can be added new breakthroughs or the beginning of something plus major and significant engineering feats. Basically Aries wants to do something – if this involves building the biggest tower, creating a city (with all the trappings such as a library, gardens etc.) or conquering as much land as possible – so be it! Behind nearly everything associated with Aries is this desire to collectively roll up the sleeves of the society, conquer as much territory as possible, build one or more grand cities, plumb new depths in engineering and plunge forth intellectually with vigor whenever conditions are suitable.
Those individuals that are at the forefront of Aries become ‘great’ one way or another. Usually this is through being a great military leader, but as the fortunes of the Aries age and overflow waned, people became respected for other reasons, especially for religious reasons as the Pisces age and overflow picked up speed from around 351 AD onward with the arrival of the Pisces quasi age.
The first Aries sub-age examined arrived at the peak of the almost 4,500 years Aries age and overflow ‘bell curve’ (2916 BC – 732 BC – 1433 AD), also known as the Aries era – the Aries sub-age and overflow (914 – 732 – 551 BC) situated dead center. The Aries crown in this period is given to Assyria – the military marvel and empire of this sub-age, and probably the purest manifestation of Aries’ ferocity. No mercy was given to the inhabitants of any captured city that resisted Assyria’s army and the Assyrian’s used pure terror as a strategy to expand their empire. Aries on one extreme is a pure bully. Assyrian rulers delighted in hunting and this probably accounted for the extinction of the Mesopotamian lion which they slaughtered in large numbers. Assyria’s main city was Nineveh, and to supply it with water, two million limestone blocks were used in one bridge alone of the aqueduct constructed by thousands of prisoners of war.
Despite Assyria’s ruthlessness, the sciences and visual arts flourished. The Assyrians were especially interested in astronomy and astrology. One Assyrian king established the famous library at Nineveh with 30,000 clay tablets organized by shape but were separated by content into different rooms. As another Aries’ first – this library had one of the first library catalogs. The Assyrians were also the first nation to move en-masse conquered people to different locations in the Assyrian empire. Aries is always associated with people on the move for a new home. The apex of Assyria was the reign of Tiglath-Pileser III. However, by the end of this Aries period, Assyria had disappeared from sight. The power vacuum caused by the fall of Assyria allowed a Babylonian renaissance culminating in the legendary Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the capturing Jerusalem in 597 BC.
This Aries period also saw the rise of Ancient Greece (800 to 480 BC) and the settling of the village of Rome in Italy. The Etruscans in the Italian peninsula also did well under Aries, and so the sign Aries was focused upon Rome from the very beginning, not only by its formation in this Aries period, but also by the influence from the Aries-orientated Etruscans and Greek. The founding of Carthage also made it an Aries city-state, but with Aries a competitive sign, ultimately it was either Rome or Carthage – the stakes are high under Aries!
Classical Antiquity, also known as the Classical Era, Classical period or Classical Age, aligns itself exactly to the first half of the Pisces age. The second half of the Pisces age is aligned to the Medieval period. With the arrival of the Aquarius age in the 15th century, the Modern period or age commenced. These long term fundamental periods suggest that our current modern “age” or period will last until the midway point of the Aquarius age around 2500 which is the same as the arrival of the Aquarius quasi-age. Will 2500 bring the world to the post-apocalyptic age so well portrayed in many Hollywood movies?
The second Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) examined again witnessed mighty Aries deeds. The two greatest war mongers of this time were Genghis Khan and Pope Urban II. Genghis Khan is reputed to be the world’s greatest warrior though Pope Urban II started the Crusades when he called upon Europeans to venture forth to the Middle East to attack the infidels occupying the Holy Land. This Aries period coincided with the beginning of the Pisces quasi age-decan (1072-1791). Pisces archetypes therefore experienced a promotion and this is what we see also at this time in history – a Pisces religious leader becoming a war monger. Only the Pisces religious pope had the ability to call Europe to arms as European secular powers were divided and at loggerheads with each other. The default unification of Europe in fighting a common enemy confirms not only the major Pisces rulership of Europe, but also the secondary rulership by Aries.
The Crusades commenced within 30 years of the arrival of the Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) but concluded in 1291, about 40 years past the end of the Aries sub-age proper. Aries is like a sky rocket, it goes up with a lot of fanfare but quickly comes back to earth with a thud. Though wars appear to disfavor the aggressors, and this certainly happened to the Europeans in the failed Crusades, it did begin something else that had far reaching consequences. All of a sudden backward Europeans gained first-hand knowledge of the majesty of the Byzantine Empire and Islamic Middle East. The introduction of their greater knowledge and culture ultimately turned Europe from a backward atavistic society to conquer nearly all other societies in the world. Aires always wants to fight!
Genghis Khan delayed his birth to the very beginning of the more potent Aries quasi sub-age (1162-1332). The Mongols tribes were like Europeans, always fighting among themselves, but Genghis Khan was able to meld the warring tribes into one large fighting force the likes the world had never experienced previously or since. Like the European Crusades, the Mongol Empire lasted only while Aries was strong – aligned to the Aries quasi sub-age. This alignment to the Aries quasi sub-age is mimicked by Saladin – the warrior of note and military foe of Richard the Lionheart. Saladin’s dynasty was also aligned to the Aries quasi sub-age (1162-1332). After the death of Genghis Khan the Mongol Horde continued the momentum and conquered China, central Eurasia, much of Russia and almost Venice in 1214. The Mongol dynasty in China fell only three decades past the end of the Aries quasi sub-age in 1332. The Mongols conquered more of Eurasia and killed a greater percentage of people than any time before or after making the Mongol Horde an Aries exemplar. The Mongols also spread the widespread use of gunpowder and very quickly the Europeans, Muslims and Indians were employing canons and firearms – items always fondly caressed by Aries.
This Aries period saw the beginning of the end of the Eastern Roman Empire. The sack of Constantinople by the Crusaders (under the bidding of Constantinople’s business rival, Venice) put an end to the Eastern Roman Empire’s last period of greatness. Like the sunset period of the Western Roman Empire, the power in the Eastern Roman Empire commenced to be vested in provincial military families. The final dynasty of the Eastern Roman Empire turned more to their Greek rather than Roman origins. This dynasty fell with the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks in 1453, only 20 years past the end of the Aries sub-age overflow and Pisces age.
The two Aries sub-ages examined have been located in the Aries age and overflow (2916 BC – 732 BC – 1433 AD) and all these sub-ages and sub-age decans since the Aries sub-age and overflow (914 – 732 – 551 BC) have been the critical periods in the rise and fall of Ancient Rome. The Aries sub-age and overflow (914 – 732 – 551 BC) saw the settling of the village of Rome on the Tiber River. Just past the end of the Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) the last vestige of Ancient Rome collapsed with the fall of Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, to the Muslim invaders. Ancient Rome was book-ended by two Aries sub-ages.
The Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) saw, in allegorical terms, the handing of the baton from Ancient Rome to modern Europe. The European resurgence was firstly most noticeable in Italy with the rise of powerful and rich trading states such as Venice. This baton-passing act only temporarily involved Italy, and very quickly it left the Italian peninsula and moved into Europe where the Spaniards, Portuguese, French, Germans, Dutch and Great Britain were ready to launch forth on an unsuspecting world. Context is everything, as each Aries sub-age or sub-age decan arrives, it must interact with whatever age, age-decan and associated quasi-periods.
The Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) is what I colloquially call the ‘sting in the tail’ of the Aries age and overflow. Any period in macro-astrology that is not a decan ends with such a sting-in-the tail and deserves an appropriate name. Every age has as its second last sub-age in its age overflow period a sub-age with the same sign as itself. Taking into account the sub-age overflow, this means that every age-wave finishes with a bang. It is the conclusion to the story.
Other notable events associated with this pivotal Aries period include the Hussite Wars (1419-34) which saw the use of the hand-held cannon in Europe, Britain’s conquest of Wales (but failed conquest of Scotland) and the Hundred Years’ War (1337-1453) between France and England which commenced with bows and arrows but ended with firearms and was an emphatic loss to Britain though they retain Calais for some time.
There is strong evidence of Aries in Britain’s astrological signature. The Celts are believed to have migrated into Britain in the Aries sub-age and overflow (914 – 732 – 551 BC). Britain entered another major phase of self-government with the withdrawal of Roman troops in the Aries sub-age decan and overflow (352 – 412 – 472 AD). In the Aries sub-age and overflow (1072 – 1252 – 1433 AD) Britain’s nationalistic sentiment was created due mainly to the One Hundred Years war with France. Finally in the Aries sub-age decan and overflow (1672-1731-1791) the British Empire became temporarily the foremost military power in the world due to its successes in the Second Hundred Years War. Appropriately, Great Britain was eclipsed in the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970) with Scorpio sitting in the 8th house of death and vulnerability to Aries. Aries is a significant sign for Great Britain.
Other developments of note in these Aries’ periods include the mass movement of people either forcibly or willingly. Engineering and construction included most of the Seven Wonders of the World including the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Other established Aries’ associations are developments in some sports and athletics including the Olympic Games.
