Nightmare Nodal Scenario for Ukraine

Ukraine is engulfed in a nodal nightmare with the transiting and secondary progressed moon’s nodes tightly aspecting a number of critical points in Ukraine’s natal horoscope. For Ukraine, I am using its independence referendum chart of 1st December 1991 at 6:00 pm Kyiv courtesy of Nickolas Campion (The Book of World Horoscopes, p 326). Some astrologers prefer to use a different horoscope for Ukraine, but while I cannot comment on the other versions, the Vedic version (not shown) of the following horoscope provides good correlations to significant events in Ukraine’s recent history.

  • The progressed moon is semi square the natal nodes (almost exact but only in play for another month)
  • The progressed sun is conjunct the natal north node (half a degree from exact and active for another 1 ½ years)
  • The progressed midheaven is square the natal nodes (1/2 degree to an approaching exact aspect and active for approx. another 1 ½ years)
  • The progressed south node is conjunct the natal ascendant (41 minutes 7 separating and has been active since Ukraine declared independence in 1991 and will remain active for some years)

The nodal nightmare continues in the transit to natal charts:

  • Transiting nodes semi-square Ukraine’s natal ascendant
  • Transiting nodes semi-square natal Uranus (the planet of independence)
  • Transiting nodes semi-square their natal positions (a fateful time)

The transiting nodes are obviously the precipitators of the nodal activity in the progressed horoscope – but is there light at the end of the tunnel?  The transiting nodes are only exact mainly in the second half of February and first half of March 2020.  Another primary influence is the progressed moon semi-square the natal nodes but this has a maximum influence of two months, with only one month remaining.   The nodes act like ambassadors for eclipses.  Having the ascendant ‘eclipsed’ virtually means Ukraine’s ‘self’ or existence is taken away – but only temporarily.  The same can be extracted from the nodes semi-square Uranus, this will eclipse their independence – but not for long?  The transiting nodes’ squaring their natal positions amplifies the fateful nature of current events.

Is it possible Ukraine can withstand the military pressure from Russia – if it can withstand for a month, the outcome cannot automatically be assumed to be in Russia’s favor because all the short-term nodal aspects disappear – and this must mean something?  Taking the cue from eclipses, what is taken away can return. The longer-term nodal aspects associated with any secondary progressed chart cannot have the same impact as an actual live transit. If Ukraine can make it through the short term nightmare nodal aspects, it may rebound. Is there any other astrology to support this conjecture?

The transits to the secondary progressed chart is not as common as the progressed to natal chart, but I have found that in any forensic review of previous events, the transits to the secondary progressed chart also lends support to whatever is happening.

The following transits to the secondary progressed chart for Ukraine are mainly loaded with positive aspects:

  • Transiting Saturn sextile progressed Mercury
  • Transiting Jupiter sextile progressed Uranus
  • Transiting Neptune trine progressed Pluto

Furthermore, the stand-alone secondary progressed chart, while unreliable on its own, does seem to contribute some further possible insights:

  • The secondary progressed sun is conjunct the secondary progressed north node and thus amplifying Ukraine’s current vulnerability as the sun is the current ruling planet in the progressed horoscope with progressed Leo ascending.  The sun is being blanked and this is certainly happening to Ukraine!
  • The secondary progressed moon is also semi-square the secondary progressed nodes but this influence has only one month remaining.
  • The secondary progressed nodes are square the secondary progressed midheaven.

So once again, the transits to secondary progressed horoscope provide a two-tier approach – a combination of short and long-term influences.

The input from Ukraine’s Vedic horoscope (see below) is currently focused upon Mercury, its sidereal ruling planet because Ukraine recently entered its Mercury sub-dasa (Nov 2021 – Feb 2024). Mercury is unfortunately placed in the 6th house of enemies, and so Ukraine must permanently factor enemies into its existence – especially when it is activated as it is now.  The 6th house is also one of three malevolent houses in the Vedic horoscope (6th, 8th & 12th houses) bringing misfortune, but this misfortune is not permanent for the 6th house– with time, its malefic influence subsides and it can even become a strong point for the Vedic horoscope.  Having three planets in the 6th house indicates significant growing pains for Ukraine – which it certainly has endured to date.

This invasion by Russia is merely a continuation of what it has been doing for some time including Georgia and its earlier snatching of Crimea from Ukraine. What is so confusing about news reports is they focus upon day-to-day events but avoid providing a real analysis about why these day-to-day events are occurring. One sure way of understanding events is to follow the money. Before Russia invaded Crimea in 2014, Ukraine had discovered serious gas reserves offshore in its economic zone. Russia’s invasion of Crimea automatically absorbed the majority of these gas reserves. It must be noted that Russia is an oil/gas state the same as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Republic and so on. Russia’s wealth is dependent upon sale of oil and gas, mainly to western European nations, and from this wealth, Russia has been able to build up its armed forces and easily invade parts of Georgia and Ukraine. Russia obviously wants the rest of Ukranian’s gas reserve. This also explains the hesitancy of European democracies to actively support Ukraine, as their focus is more upon their economies than defending democracy. In our part of the Age of Aquarius, Pisces is the strongest influence in the world, and Pisces is the ruler of oil and corporate interests. This is why the western corporate focus on oil (and gas) has taken predominance over democracy, as Pisces corporate interests are considered more important than defending Aquarian democracy.

Another Ukrainian resource Russia wants to get its hands on is water, as until Russia annexed Crimea, Crimea received its water supply from Ukraine via a large canal. This supply ceased once Crimea was taken from Ukraine, leaving the interior of Crimea a virtual wasteland. Latest reports indicate Russia has just blown up the dam that prevented the water getting to Crimea. This coincides with Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029) which is in its strongest quarter from December 2014 to April 2024 – and freshwater is ruled by Cancer.

Ukraine is also the breadbasket for Europe with an amazing agricutural output, and if Putin gets his hands on it, he can exercise further leverage against European democracies. Make no mistake, Putin is just a thief with a country and nuclear arsenal to back him up.

Russia’s behavior in stealing Ukraine’s gas reserves, and now attempting to take the rest, plus obtaining the water it wants for Crimea is completely in line with how European powers flourished over the last five centuries until the decades after the Second World War. All the European powers were as despotic, unethical and unprincipled as Russia is behaving today. But slowly the Age of Aquarius is pushing mainly western nations towards equality and recognizing rights, but this creates a multi-tiered world that is like a living museum. Russia is merely some decades or centuries behind – but all is not black and white. The USA has often been incredibly reprehensible since the Second World war with a litany of underhanded chicanery that has done so much needless damage to so many countries just for the USA’s own economic or political interests. The American Indians were perceptive when they stated ‘the white man speaks with a forked tongue’. So everything is not black and white with the good guys in one corner and the bad guys in another. Nevertheless, the acid test is war – it is Russia that has recommenced war against Ukraine, and there is no justification for commencing a war. In this regard, I had the same feeling of unease with the Russians invading Ukraine as the Americans and its allies invading Iraq in 2004 – the aggressor is the aggressor. For this assessment of the situation, I am indebted to the following video:

Another reason why the Russians may want to invade Ukraine is for strategic reasons, though this is probably the smokescreen to cover the economic reasons. At the core of Russia’s strategic claims is that it is merely reacting to NATO’s takeover of former Soviet states which Putin claims threaten Russia. Always listen to accusations, as the accuser is usually projecting their own mindset. Putin’s mindset is towards invading other countries, of which his track record clearly demonstrates. NATO or western European nations have shown absolutely no intention of invading Russia. Some credibility must be given to the perspective that Putin only wants Ukraine for Greater Russia, regardless of NATO or economic benefits. Put has a megalomaniac desire to restore the Russia of old.

This invasion of Ukraine must be placed in context – the world is quickly approaching the biggest conflict since the Second World War and it could be the result of the invasion of Ukraine, or the Ukraine invasion is a contributing factor for the approaching war. The most likely time for this major confrontation is any time commencing around November 2024 (the beginning can also occur earlier, and could start anytime) and the pressure leading towards this time of confrontation will increase in June 2022. The track record indicates that the coming conflict will most likely involve some or all the major power bases in the world – the USA, China, Europe and Russia – but North Korea or any other rogue state cannot be ruled out.

It seems unreal that the western democratic axis has thrown Ukraine under the bus, similar to the fate of Czechoslovakia before the Second World War, but this accentuates a deficiency in democracy  – government by the lowest common denominator – remember, that is how Trump became president.  The lowest common denominator is the main paradigm in a Cancer period – which is where the world is currently located. It seems that the collective corporate interests of western nations are too entwined with Russia to effectively sanction Russia, and sanctions versus invasion are not even on the same page.  Sanctioning Russia is like telling the schoolyard bully you will send a note home to their mom.  The main reaction on local media I have seen is bewilderment by various commentators about why nothing real is being done to prevent Russia from invading Ukraine.

“What is Putin really after? Not just keeping Ukraine out of Nato, because Nato itself isn’t Putin’s biggest worry. After all, Hungary and Poland are Nato members but are governed in ways that resemble Russia more than western democracies. Putin’s real fear is liberal democracy, which poses a direct threat to authoritarian “strongmen” like him (just as it did to Donald Trump). Putin wants to keep liberal democracy far away from Russia. Putin’s means of keeping western liberal democracy at bay isn’t just to invade Ukraine, of course. It’s also to stoke division inside the west by fueling racist nationalism in western Europe and the United States. In this, Trump and Trumpism continue to be Putin’s most important ally.”

The astrology of our times does not currently favor wisdom or long-term interests. The world is in the strongest quarter (until June 2022) of the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029) and with Cancer opposite Capricorn, the sign of wisdom, wisdom is thin on the ground.  Politicians tend to react more to the knee-jerk reactions of the general populace and lead from the back.  Populace politicians like Trump is a classic example, with a number of others of a similar vein on the world stage including Putin. Unfortunately, the USA has subjected its citizens to a series of insane and stupid wars over the last decades, and now when a real issue arises, they are too jaded to adequately respond. Furthermore, it takes a statesman to champion democracy, and this is indeed wanting.

Unfortunately, Cancer-associated nations such as China and Russia benefit. The world is also in the Gemini micro-age (2014 – 29) and the first micro-age decan is the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Nov 2019 – Nov 2024) and the strongest period for Aquarius is the 2 ½ years commencing November 2019.

Gemini micro-age and micro-age decans

Aquarius is very strong in Russia’s astrological signature, but Aquarius undermines Pisces-orientated Europe and the USA.  So Russia is temporarily astrological favored and is making hay while the sun shines, while western democracies cower in fear, indifference or economic interests.  The USA spends ten times more on military expenditure than the country in second place, yet I saw President Biden almost choked on his words at the concept of American soldiers fighting Russians on the battlefield. It is fairly obvious that western democracies are not supporting Ukraine as a backroom agreement amongst them has placed this in the too hard basket.

The universal response to the Ukraine invasion by western leaders and the normal sundry politicians was initially “blah, blah blah” as they mime the same nonsensical response of sanctions. During this strong Cancer period, too many so-called leaders have no (Capricorn) backbone – and this is what we are seeing with the early response to the invasion – “blah, blah blah”. At least the Ukrainian president has a backbone. In response to an offer by President Biden to whisk president Volodymyr Zelenskyj away to a safe heaven, his response was that he  needed ammunition, not a ride.

Despite the abysmal real support for Ukraine from western democracies, perhaps the wheels of fortune are slowly shifting in Ukraine’s favor as the following change of heart by Germany implies:

“The Russian assault on Ukraine marks a turning point,” Germany’s chancellor said, signalling a major shift in his country’s postwar military stance. “It threatens our entire postwar order. In this situation it is our duty to support Ukraine to the best of our ability in its defence against the invasive army of Vladimir Putin. Germany stands closely on the side of Ukraine.”

On the grand perspective, while the world is drowning in a sea of technology, courtesy of the Aquarian age, the main political paradigm in the world remains medieval due to the overflow influence from the Age of Pisces.  Pisces remains stronger than Aquarius for around another 500 years.  If you don’t understand medievalism, just examine the international political situation in the world over the last 500 years up to and including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.  The invasion of Ukraine by Russia is a direct continuation of medievalism. [see The Myth of Modernity ]

While many major setbacks have occurred in the world since the dawn of human civilization, somehow there is an ongoing groundswell of improvement – like a numbers game that keeps casinos rich.  Perhaps 51% of events are ‘positive’ and 49% are ‘negative’, but over the long term, this slight advantage of positive over negative finds us in the world today instead of on average being dead by the age of 20 and a greater percentage of the world’s population than ever before have some democratic power.  If we could time travel, there is no point in going back in time.  Even the wealthy aristocrats from only a few centuries ago could not depend upon being alive past their 50s. Humanity is still coming out of the caves, and we can see this in the world we live in. The real focus should be on how humanity can extricate itself from this 5,000 years momentum of military madness. To understand at the deepest level the Ukrainian dilemma, it is necessary to understand the relationship between the hairless chimpanzees and humans.

Let’s hope for the future of democracy and a saner world that Ukraine can withstand the short-term transiting nodal nightmare and come out the other end in March 2022?
