It may seem incredibly unbelievable, but a sub-period that represents only a minute 1/5184th of the Age of Aquarius has brought the world to its knees with the COVID-19 pandemic. Such a sub-period cannot create such turmoil without assistance, because a significant event is like a plane crash. It is extremely rare for a plane crash to occur due to just one thing going wrong – the normal plane crash is the result of a number of seemingly insignificant events, none of which will cause the plane to crash, but in combination, has this power. Since December 2019, the world has been experiencing such a deadly combination. In addition, the outer planets have obviously made a significant contribution, but I will leave that analysis to those experienced astrologers who specialize in that field.
Around September last year (2019), I commenced focusing on December 2019 because I knew that December marked the greatest change in the sub-periods of the Age of Aquarius over a five year period. This change was due to the arrival of the approximate five year Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024). This Libra micro-age decan is strategically located within the following periods that behave like layers of an onion within the Age of Aquarius:
Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024)
Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029)
Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148)
Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574)
However, whenever a cusp is precipitated such as in December 2019, all smaller periods also experience a cusp, and sometimes larger periods as well. In the current case, there were no larger periods involved, but December 2019 also experienced cusps at the even smaller 15-month nano-age and 5-month nano-age decan level, with nano-age decans the smallest part of an astrological age with clearly identifiable and reliable correlations to worldly events. In fact, it is one such nano-age decan that has precipitated the COVID-19 pandemic despite the fact that a nano-age decan represents only 1/5184th of an astrological age (i.e. 12 sub-ages x 12 micro-ages x 12 nano-ages x 3 nano-age decans = 5184).
Referring back to the plane crash analogy, no one astrological input precipitates any event in macro-astrology, it is the combination that creates the circumstances and tells the story. The relevant minute part within the Age of Aquarius was the approximate five-month Virgo nano-age decan (Dec 2019 – Apr 2020), and Virgo rules public health issues. This alone cannot create a pandemic, because if it did, a pandemic would appear approximately every 5 years because every five years an earth-sign nano-age will appear, and every earth nano-age will have at a minimum a Virgo nano-age decan, with usually every third earth nano-age also being a Virgo nano-age.
Despite the incredible small size of the Virgo nano-age decan (Dec 2019 – Apr 2020), a public health crisis has appropriately occurred. This also has precedence, because the last coronavirus attack, Camel Flu (MERS), appeared in the very last Virgo nano-age decan as I published on 20th June 2015:
“Though MERS has been around since May 2013, it only accelerated in April 2014 and became an international newsworthy item since late May 2015, exactly aligned to the arrival of the Virgo nano-age decan and overflow (May 2015 – March 2016)”.
The even earlier coronavirus of note was SARS that commenced in November 2002 but it was not aligned with any Virgo sub-period – it was aligned with an Aries nano-age (Aug 2002 – Nov 2003) and Aries is the secondary sign associated with public health issues (being the natural ruler of the 1st house with the 1st and 6th houses the two acknowledged health houses). Despite this apparent clear correlation, if we examine all the small Aries and Virgo sub-periods since 2000 prior to COVID-19, there have been four earth nano-ages with a Virgo component but only one of these four associated with a major health crisis, and four fire nano-ages with an Aries component , but only one of these is associated with a health crisis. Consolidating both probabilities, there have been eight incidences between 2000 and 2019 associated with either an Aries or Virgo nano-age or nano-age decan, but only two produced a result, or alternatively, there has been a 25% chance that any Aries or Virgo nano-age or nano-age decan will produce a health crisis of one degree or another in recent times. I was aware of this unreliability last September (2019), and while I promoted the possibility of an expanded Camel Flu (MERS) epidemic in the previous Virgo nano-age decan and overflow (2015), I decided not to go down that path for the Virgo nano-age decan that commenced in December 2019 as it did not seem a reliable correlation, plus Camel flu was kind of a fizzer and did not really affect the vast majority of the world.
The astrology behind COVID-19, while taking into account the Virgo nano-age decan (Dec 2019 – Apr 2020), provides a very detailed analysis of the real story associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The real story is that this pandemic is merely the precipitator of a larger and more significant event in the same way as the subprime home mortgage sector in the USA precipitated and created the massive Global Financial Crisis (2007 – 8), which is acknowledged as the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. The biggest problem the world is currently facing is not a health crisis but a financial crisis, and this financial crisis and disruption of the world economy will extend well past the actual pandemic.
Even calling COVID-19 a pandemic is an exaggeration – at best it should be called a mild pandemic despite its disastrous consequences, and possibly is better described as a serious flu epidemic that is 10 to 40 times more deadly than average seasonal flu. The Spanish Flu (1918-19) pandemic was a real pandemic because between 60 and 100 million people died when the world had a population much smaller than today at about 1.8 billion people. About 27% of people were infected by Spanish flu and it killed between 3% to around 5% of the world population or one in every 20 to 33 people. COVID-19 is not in the same league, and the astrology comparing the Spanish flu (plus major outbreaks of the Bubonic plague) are totally different and indicates that COVID-19 cannot be compared to previous major pandemics, though the economic disruption will be at least in the league of the GFC, and perhaps even more so.
I may not have predicted the COVID-19 pandemic, but I did predict the financial crisis the pandemic has precipitated. The following is extracted from my post of September 2019:
“What is even more cantankerous to the economic outlook from sometime in December 2019 onwards is the arrival of the Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 2019 – Mar 2021 – Jun 2022) because Capricorn is true to its archetypal attachment to doom, gloom, austerity and distress – never a good omen for the economy.
Furthermore, the Capricorn nano-age and overflow commenced with the Virgo nano-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – May 2020 – Oct 2020) and not only is Virgo the bubble-breaker (Pisces bubbles always has trouble with Virgo reality), but it was with a similar connection of Capricorn with Virgo that brought the world the Great Depression commencing in September 1929. However, in the case of the Great Depression, Capricorn was a micro-age, and Virgo was a micro-age decan, whereas, in 2019 and 2020, Capricorn is a mere nano-age and Virgo a nano-age decan. The negative influence in late 2019 or 2020 is one-twelfth the strength and is in play for 1/12th the timeframe.”
So what has occurred with COVID-19 is that it has been assigned the role of “bubble-breaker” and though Virgo usually attains this by bringing in (Virgo) reality to counter the (Pisces) market bubbles, in 2020, it has achieved this by a (Virgo) pandemic. I failed to take into account the possible health aspect of Virgo when predicting the current dire economic circumstances. So while I did not specifically predict a health crisis that has led to a mild worldwide pandemic with COVID-19, I did predict the financial crisis that COVID-19 has created. And in the years to come, the financial crisis will be the main legacy even after the health aspect has been resolved. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic should be limited to the Virgo nano-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Apr 2020 – Oct 2020) but this Virgo nano-age sits within the Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 19 – Apr 2021 – Jun 2022). Capricorn rarely brings good economic news, but prefers hardship and frugality.
The most significant astrological ingredient associated with COVID-19 appears to be Aquarius. December 2019 commenced the five years Libra micro-age decan, but this overlaps with the more powerful Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) as overflow periods are stronger, and so if you are waiting for the main benefits associated with the Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), this will occur in the following Libra micro-age decan overflow (Nov 2024 – Nov 2029).
Aquarius is the great disrupter – it does not like normality or middle of the road positions, it prefers extremes. Aquarius also prefers sudden and unexpected shocks. Also, the Aquarius period commencing December 2019 is the strongest manifestation of Aquarius within the Age of Aquarius since the massive disruption associated with the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) that brought two world wars, the Great Depression and the Spanish flu (it did not achieve all this on its own but it was a significant player). For example, no Baby Boomer or later generations have ever previously experienced Aquarius at the strength it has appeared in December 2019.
Compared to the Great Depression, the current economic crisis technically should be much smaller than the Great Depression because fortunately the current manifestation of Aquarius is one-third the size and length of the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) and so the current Aquarius input is only one-ninth the power compared to the early 20th century Aquarius.
The timeframe for COVID-19 should be associated with the Virgo nano-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Apr 2020 – Oct 2020). The majority of the economic destruction should be associated with the Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 19 – Apr 2021 – Jun 2022) so we should expect bad economic news for another two years. The disruptive influence or shock to the world at large should extend to the end of the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024).
When does the bad news recede? Based on the simple fact that COVID-19 came to world attention in December 2019, at the exact highpoint of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), this strongly suggests that Aquarius is the key sign for the current crisis. The associated Aquarius quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2017 – Jun 2022) is the upper half of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow bell curve, and with the influence shifting from the Aquarius quasi micro-age decan to the Libra quasi micro-age decan in June 2022, this provides a parameter of some sort for the extent of the current crisis, as Libra is a more benign sign and suggests that the worst will be over by mid-2022.
The current Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 19 – Apr 2021 – Jun 2022) cannot provide any real or sustained support as even though the current influence of the Virgo nano-age decan will be followed by a Taurus nano-age decan and overflow (May 2020 – Oct 2020 – Mar 2021), Taurus will probably bring a serious banking crisis. The influence of Capricorn will steadily increase until at least the end of the Capricorn quasi nano-age (Jul 2020 – Oct 2021). Taking into account the quasi period is always the strongest manifestation, the world has not yet even reached the strongest manifestation of Capricorn yet – it remains in the pipeline.
The first significant positive influence will be the Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022 – Aug 2023) that overlaps and follows the current Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 19 – Apr 2021 – Jun 2022). The Sagittarius nano-age and overflow also has within it a Sagittarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 2022 – Jun 2022 – Nov 2022), and so this is the most reliable time for stock markets to stage a (temporary) recovery, especially in the second half (Jun 2022 – Nov 2022).
For background economic details based on the sub-periods of the Age of Aquarius, see The Dynamics of Economic Recessions in the Age of Aquarius. In this paper I published in November 2016, Table 1 (also provided below), provides the likelihood of a large recession based on nano-age timeframes (i.e. 15 months). All the nano-ages until December 2019 indicated no likelihood of a large recession, and December 2019 to March 2021 indicated the likelihood of a recession is 3, followed by even a greater likelihood from March 2021 to June 2022 with a score of 5. This outlook supports the above assessment and also suggests a rocky decade ahead.
Table 1 – Predictions of large recessions for the Gemini and Taurus micro-ages covering the period December 2014 to September 2044 with the ‘Mut’ column flagging Mutable nano-ages (with a positive score) which have the highest of all probabilities of commencing a large recession
On the last day of the 2020 Jaipur Literature Festival in India in January 2020, I was electrified – not by electricity, but by Professor Stephen Greenblatt of Harvard University. Basically, he was explaining how the 15th century swerved from Medievalism towards Modernity during the Renaissance. As with so many other historians, Greenblatt clearly indicated that Modernity arrived in its embryonic form in the 15th century driving the sharp edge of a wedge into medievalism and spearheading the thrust of modernity into an unsuspecting world. In over 500 years, astrologers have not grasped this fact, mainly because astrologers are not experts on history, and history is a far cry from horoscopic astrology – the only field of expertise for astrologers at large.
Greenblatt was not telling me anything new about the arrival of modernity in the 15th century, as my research led me to the solid conviction in 1987 that the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 15th century through rectification of the sub-ages that exist within the astrological ages (12 sub-ages per age). Secondly, Aquarius is the sign of modernity aligned to rationality – unlike belief-orientated medievalism associated with the previous Age of Pisces. How can Aquarius modernity arrive before the Aquarian age?[i]
The reason why I was electrified was that Greenblatt explained a very significant and crucial piece of the jigsaw puzzle that introduced modern thought to the west in the 15th century. It is truly an amazing tale, so amazing to Greenblatt, that he has published his findings in his book “The Swerve” in 2011. The book is not only a compelling inside look at the arrival of the modern intellectual approach to the world but also it is history in narrative form and therefore neither dry and boring – as is the case with so many texts or dissertations on history. His book is a pleasure to read.
The abbreviated tale of “The Swerve” goes like this. In the early 15th century, Poggio Bracciolini, the former secretary to the most discredited pope in the history of the Roman Catholic Church, found himself unemployed when the living Pope was actually deposed but uncharacteristically, not burnt at the stake – which was popular at the time. The unfortunate Pope had bad timing as there was the Great Schism in the Roman Catholic Church with another two competing popes – three in total with the additional two Popes representing the interests of France and Spain. To solve this major internal schism, a council was formed, and after some deflective tactics, such as burning some ‘heretics’ at the stake, the Pope drew the short straw, and he was cast out as a sinful heretic of the worse kind and even charged with murdering the previous pope by poisoning, which seems highly likely – but nevertheless, after a few years in prison, was eventually released and made a Cardinal. This all occurred in the Pisces sub-age (1253 – 1433) of the Pisces age (732 BC – 1433 AD), and whenever Pisces attains such peaks as this due to resonance, (Pisces) Europe tends to split, and the Pisces Catholic church, as the major European institution of the time, followed suit.
Following this most extraordinary event for the Roman Catholic Church, Poggio Bracciolini, the former principal secretary to the deposed Pope, and now unemployed and with time on his hands, went in search of ancient texts that were a popular pastime amongst a group of highly educated Italian Humanists. The most well-known Humanist was Petrarch – who lived a century earlier, and is accredited with the rediscovery of some letters of the Ancient Roman writer Cicero. The Humanists devoted themselves to the rediscovery of the former intellectual authors of Ancient Rome mainly through finding old texts, copying them and making them available – instead of rotting away in monasteries around Europe which was the status quo of old texts for centuries up to this time.
Poggio Bracciolini may have been a secretary to a pope, but he was not a priest, he was an openly highly dedicated Humanist and his first love was rediscovering the glory of Ancient Rome – specifically their intellectual achievements. In 1417 he happened to stumble upon a monastery in Germany, and found to his delight a very old manuscript of a poem by Lucretius “On the Nature of Things” – originally written in the time of Julius Caesar.
Now Lucretius was a student of Epicureanism. I must admit that I had briefly come across the rudiments of Epicurean philosophy in my research on the astrological ages, but the picture that was painted to me was that Epicurus promoted a hedonistic lifestyle of wanton debauchery. This turned out to be malicious press by his opponents – mainly the Roman Catholic Church in later centuries who had a frenzied hatred of the philosophy of Epicurus due to his modern secular approach to life.
What Lucretius was actually promoting in poetic form was the principles of modernity espoused by Epicurus – as there are very few extant texts direct from Epicurus. Lucretius stated that the universe and everything in it was made of extremely small particles (atoms), and that though the gods may exist, there was no connection of any sort whatsoever between humans and these gods, and that people should stop wasting their time placating gods that were not listening to them anyway but instead, people should look for beauty, pleasure and contentment in this life – because this is it – there is no afterlife! He promoted the concept of rudimentary evolution, rationality and basically a common-sense approach to life – but he was not a hedonist (this was just the normal slander from the Catholic Church in later centuries). He promoted the law of nature over miracles and superstition. He was definitely ahead of his time, and we still have not caught up with him today as our contemporary modernism remains rudimentary and highly unevolved.
Epicurus (341–270 BC) was born relatively early in the Pisces age (732 BC –1433 AD) and appropriately lived in the Sagittarius sub-age (370 – 189 BC) and Sagittarius always promotes philosophers and ‘the wise ones’. He derived much of his physics and cosmology from the earlier philosopher Democritus (c. 460–c. 370 BC). Every age commences with a sub-age of the following age as a kind of preview to the future world. The Pisces age commenced with an Aquarius sub-age and overflow (732BC – 551BC – 370 BC) – and this is the sub-age in the Age of Pisces that provided a preview to our Age of Aquarius. This is why elementary democracy appeared in Greece as a preview of our Aquarian age. So while Epicurus was not directly associated with Aquarius, his main influences were from this Aquarius sub-age and overflow where he drew his philosophical inspiration for modernity.
When Poggio Bracciolini found the manuscript in the German monastery, he was obviously also electrified, and arranged for the manuscript to be copied by hand – the only ‘printing’ available at the time. This accidentally set into motion a key intellectual development of modernity. Because the Latin prose In Lucretius’ poem was so ‘perfect’ it was adopted by schools in Italy for their students learning Latin. For decades, students religiously studied Lucretius’ poem without the ‘authorities’ realizing that this poem was the most blasphemous heretical writing virtually in existence – and was previously a major focus by the early Roman Catholic Church in stamping out all vestiges of the heretical and blasphemous Epicurean philosophy. However after many centuries, the Church inadvertently took their eye off the ball and opened Pandora’s box and by the time they woke up, it was too late. The word had got out – modernity had arrived with a bang sending religious superstition to the back of the class.
With the invention of the printing press only a few decades after the start of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, books were no longer being copied by hand. For example, the last time it is believed that the German manuscript of Lucretius’ poem was copied was in the 800’s and therefore the manuscript discovered in the 15th century was about 600 years old – a long time between ‘editions’ one at a time. The introduction of the mass production of books made extremely rare manuscripts available to many, and in a way, was an early example of the globalization of knowledge – also strongly associated with Aquarius
As the cover of “The Swerve” states:
“These ideas fueled the Renaissance, inspiring Botticelli, shaping the thoughts of Montaigne, Darwin and Einstein”.
The introduction of ancient Roman ‘nonsensical’ ideas ended up being a major ingredient of our contemporary world. Greenblatt believes that the embrace of beauty and pleasure that Epicurean philosophy promotes was not restricted to the artistic extravaganza of the Renaissance, but also infused dress, liturgy, etiquette, decorations, Leonardo da Vinci’s scientific endeavors, Galileo’s astronomy and so on – but the initial apex was in painting, sculpture, music, architecture and literature including Shakespeare.[ii]
“Something happened in the Renaissance, something that surged up against the constraints that centuries had constructed around curiosity, desire, individuality…”
There was a distinct cultural shift forward around the beginning of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, and it is also astrologically synchronous that the creation of the new intellectual culture associated with the Age of Aquarius was merged with a (Pisces) poem introducing Aquarian ideals at the cusp of the ages of Pisces and Aquarius. It does not get any better than this! Though the relative worth of Lucretius’ poem in forming Aquarian-modernity can be debated, it did “make a difference” in the story of the arrival of modernity. The story of the discovering and diffusion of Lucretius’ poem is “the story of how the world swerved in a new direction.”[iii]
Interestingly, Greenblatt states that the swerve to the new world order was neither dramatic nor associated with heroic gestures and with “no signs in heaven or on earth”.[iv] We now know that he was wrong, as this swerve was portended by the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the same century with the constellation of Aquarius the heliacal rising constellation at the Vernal Equinox (around 21st March each year). [See An Age Old Mistake That Still Haunts Astrologers ]
You can imagine how I was bristling with excitement upon hearing this stunning insight into the arrival of modernity combined with my understanding of the Age of Aquarius, and I was so impressed, I broke my rule about only purchasing eBooks when on the road, and rushed out at the end of the session to buy his book so that he could sign it for me. I was virtually at the end of the line and finally when I handed him the book for signing, I said “funny as it may seem, but I am the only astrologer in the world that has published a book claiming that the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 15th century”. Almost without a beat, he immediately notated my copy with “This is the Dawning!” upon which I said – “that is the name of my book!”
An interesting secondary theme in Greenblatt’s talk at the Jaipur Literary Festival was his amazement of strange synchronicities at work. For example, he stated that at the age of 19, he stumbled across a copy of Lucretius’ poem and purchased it – which was not a normal text read by 19-year-olds. From this seemingly random event early in his life, a major focus later in his life has been on the background research of the rediscovery of the same poem.
Secondly, Greenblatt stressed the unlikely succession of events that found Poggio unemployed with time on his hands and temporarily north of the Alps allowing him to indulge in a bit of book hunting in crusty old out-of-the-way monasteries. The number of coincidences required for this to have occurred is similar to a plane crash!
Strange synchronicities seem to abound in history, and I have also had the same experience with the astrological ages. The only reason why I can understand that I have been the only astrologer to actually discover the key to the astrological ages after thousands of years of confusion, is due to some very strange coincidences that occurred early in my study of astrology.
When I first became interested in astrology in 1971 I was unaware that any astrological associations or clubs existed, and so I learned exclusively from books and practice. My first experience with more than one other astrologer did not occur until the early 1980s at a Federation of Australian Astrologers (FAA) conference at the University of New South Wales. My second experience was not until around 1990 when I moved to Brisbane and I joined the local astrology association (Queensland Federation of Australian Astrologers) and started attending most monthly meetings. Therefore, for around the first 20 years of my time as an astrologer, I only once encountered other astrologers at one FAA conference (except for a short Vedic astrology course I completed in the mid-1980s).
Unknowingly, this meant that I was not influenced by the opinions of other astrologers, and so when I became interested in the astrological ages in 1987, I did not follow the party line that the world was currently on the cusp of the Pisces and Aquarius ages, but I started with a blank sheet of paper as something told me not to trust the astrological consensus.
However, even more strangely, in 1973 I read about the 12-fold division of signs which was given the Hindu term dwadasamsa (often abbreviated to “dwad” or “duad”) though it appears they were first developed in Ancient Greece. I already knew about decanates (the division of each sign into three equal parts of 10 degrees each), and dwads are essentially an extension of the decanate process (with each sign divided in a specific way into 12 parts of 2 ½ degrees each). Under the dwad system, the first sub-period of each sign is the same as the sign, and then followed by the other signs in normal order. This means that the first dwad of Aquarius is Aquarius, followed by Pisces, Aries and so on until ending with Capricorn.
Because I did not associate with astrologers, I assumed dwads were a standard feature of ‘normal’ astrology, and I was so attracted to dwads, that once my study of astrology extended to learning secondary progressions, I employed dwads for the progressed Sun and progressed ascendant, as due to secondary progressions, the progressed Sun spends 10 year passing through a decan, and 2 ½ years passing through a dwad. A similar thing occurs to the progressed ascendant, and I was often able to use the progressed ascendant position in dwads as a means of rectifying a horoscope when the birth time was inaccurate (which applies to around 80% of all given birth times anyway). This is how I learnt to rectify an uncertain time of birth such as anyone stating they were born exactly on the hour, half-hour, quarter-hour, etc which is extremely unlikely.
A third key element to my discovery of the astrological ages was the outcome of a short course in Vedic astrology in the mid-1980s, as this gave me hands-on knowledge of not only dealing with two zodiacs, the western tropical zodiac aligned to the seasons, and the sidereal Hindu zodiac aligned to the zodiacal constellations, but it also a theoretical understanding on why astrological ages existed in the first place due to the intrinsic difference between these two styles of zodiac.
So when I had an epiphany about the Age of Aquarius one winters day a few years later in 1987, I was relatively immune to the consensus on the astrological ages amongst the astrological community due to my lack of contact. Therefore, I automatically referred to my old dwads as the most appropriate way to subdivide the astrological ages into meaningful sub-periods and use dwads as the method of rectification similar to how I used them in horoscopic astrology as I already knew that dwads “worked”.
About half the astrological researchers into the astrological ages also employ sub-periods of the ages. For example, a chapter in Charles Carter’s “An Introduction to Political Astrology” first published in 1951, outlined his approach to sub-periods of the astrological ages. Nearly all researchers of the astrological ages who employ sub-periods, such as Charles Carter, adopt a sub-period structure where the first sub-period of any sign is Aries, followed by Taurus, Gemini and so on until Pisces. And to add insult to injury, they nearly all have these sub-periods going forward in time even though the ages pass through each sign in reverse zodiacal order. So the Age of Pisces commences with Aries, followed by Taurus and so on, as does the Age of Aquarius and every other age. This consensus among most astrologers is directly opposite the truth. The sub-periods also go in the reverse direction, and each age is not divided Aries to Pisces but by the dwad system (applied geometrically).
For example, because the last dwad in Aquarius is Capricorn, this is the first dwad encountered in the Age of Aquarius, followed by Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra and so end – finishing with the Aquarius dwad (or subage). I mentally worked all this out over about 20 minutes in my initial epiphany in 1987, and 6 weeks later, I discovered the dwads that existed at the end of the Pisces age and beginning of the Age of Aquarius. [For further details see The Rectification of the Aquarian Age ] However, if I had coexisted with other astrologers, and had not learned about dwads early in my practice of astrology, plus applied dwads for rectification purposes, it is doubtful I could ever have made such a discovery. Despite Epicurus’ modern, secular and rational approach to life, there is still magic! And this magic continued with my unlikely attendance at the 2020 Jaipur Literary Festival the same year that Professor Greenblatt gave his talk on the arrival of Modernity in the world. Sometimes everything feels so orchestrated!
[i] A semblance of Aquarius can arrive prior to the Age of Aquarius because ages have sub-periods based on decans (thirds) and twelfths (dwadasamsa) and so in the age before the Age of Aquarius, the Pisces age, has one sub-age (1/12th) ruled by Aquarius, and another two air sub-ages with their respective Aquarius sub-age decans. Furthermore, due to the retrograde nature of the precessional ages and their sub-periods, every age commences with the sub-age of the following age. The Age of Pisces (732BC – 1433AD) commenced with its Aquarius sub-age and overflow (732BC – 551BC – 370 BC). It was during this timeframe that embryonic elements of the Age of Aquarius such as Athenian democracy, Socrates, Aristotle, Epicurius associated with the Axial Age that preempted our ‘modern’ Age of Science commencing in earnest in the 16th century.
Many people are currently feeling frustrated at the general state of the world, what with politicians refusing to provide leadership and especially over the devastation of the world’s environment. There are many reasons for this frustration, and a lack of knowledge of history plays a part, but we should get a glimmer of the distant future over the next decade, especially in the second half (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) though for the astute observer, formative embryonic developments can pop up anytime from now on – and two possible examples may have already occurred.
Does the astrology of the future paint a nicer picture compared to the present? This can be easily answered by track record. The track record since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD indicates that massive improvement in the quality of life by the majority of people has occurred – but as a rule of thumb only. More hundreds of millions of people than we can accurately estimate have in the same period experienced pitiful and terrible lives, with many cut short due to lack of adequate health care, famine, premature death or serious injury from war and so on. Things are getting better, but this in no way has led to a perfect world, or a world anywhere near perfect.
Though the future should be better, the future is slow to arrive, which is very frustrating in a period of time when Gemini is so strong in the world, and getting stronger – because under Gemini, everyone wants everything now! Not only are you not going to get everything now, you are most likely not going to see in your lifetime what you would like to see, though most Millennials and later generations will see some real progress or tangible results in tackling Climate Change.
In Year 587 of the Age of Aquarius (1433AD – 3574AD), the world is entering a new dawn or mini epoch (that occurs every 5 years or so). December 2019 marked a number of fundamental changes involving five-year micro-age decans. Decans, in general, are powerful in the astrological ages. This applies to age-decans (approx. every 715 years), sub-age decans (approx. every 59-60 years) and micro-age decans (approx. every 5 years). Even the humble nano-age decan lasting 5 months has clout, especially when associated with the stock market.
The Aquarius micro-age decan concluded in December 2019 – which covers the exact same period as the Cancer micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019), and an alternate way of describing these 5 years is to label it the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan. This doubling up applies to all periods in the astrological ages, taking into account that the first of the two signs is always the most powerful. [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for more details] Therefore, the biggest development in December 2019 was the shift from the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan, with the emphasis on Cancer, to the Aquarius-Libra micro-age decan with the emphasis on Aquarius. This promotion of Aquarius to the detriment of Cancer over the coming 5 years will increase the radicalization of society and promotion of fringe politics we have experienced over the last 5 years to an even higher level or greater intensity. There will also be far greater grass-root movements to continue the push for equitable outcomes in an array of areas as there are just so many issues that contemporary society and politics inadequately handle. [see This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan for more details].
The current radicalization and growth in fringe politics is nowhere near as strong as the last time Aquarius strongly manifested in the world under the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) – so this time around we tend to get neo-fascists and hard-right politicians rather than fully-fledged fascists such as Adolph Hitler, Mussolini and Franco in the 1920s and 30s – Stalin can also be added to the list of tyrants. However, the near future is not just more of the same ramped up to a higher level (Trump, Brexit, and the many secondary neo-fascists leaders that have been popping up around the world recently) because a new element arrived in December 2019 – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) – see Table 1 below.
Table 1 The Cancer-Gemini micro-age (December 2014 – November 2029)
This will be a powerful period for Libra due to its resonance with the massive Libra age-decan (1433 – 2148) of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574) and strongly supported by the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) (see table 2 below). The next 10 years of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow is the real inauguration of the current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) as this is the strongest manifestation of Libra since the Libra sub-age commenced in 1970. This can be labeled as the ‘christening’ of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148). Like Venus in the night sky, it should be something to behold.
Table 2 The Age of Aquarius with its age-decans and overflows
When the Libra age-decan (1433-2148) and Libra sub-age (1970-2148) both enter their respective overflow periods commencing in 2148, a very different world will exist compared to what we take as normal today, due to the nature of Libra – a natural benefic influence, by and large. It is Libra that brings confidence to the expectation that the world will not only continue forward as it has done since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, but also have an opportunity to take some more steps toward a more harmonious and even garden-like state compared to smokestacks and car exhausts filling up the atmosphere with noxious pollutants while governments spend trillions on weapons of mass destruction. Our current plight is another example of our medieval world we have inherited from the Pisces age overflow [see the Myth of Modernity for more details]
This new Libran world will not be heaven on Earth or paradise for a number of reasons – the main reason being that humanity will continue its ongoing medieval momentum for at least another 1,500 to 2,000 years – albeit at a lower intensity compared to 2019. If you want to examine the ratio of modernity to medievalism, examine the period from the beginning of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 to now, and see the slow but steady development of modern society as it slowly displaced some of the vestiges of the medieval side of society. For example, it still took around 300 to 400 years before starvation was mainly eradicated in Europe (though the Irish Potato famine extended this another century or so). It took around 500 years for women to get the vote in western society. The LGBT community has only recently been liberated, and even this is not yet universal in all western nations. Change happens much slower than people realize, especially for people with a progressive outlook. But the overall trend remains – the world is progressing forward for the better, but this does not mean what is better is always triumphing over its opposite.
My educated guess is that contemporary western society is about 75% medieval and 25% modern (except for technology) – which reflects the power balance between the Pisces age overflow (1433– 3574) promoting medievalism and the up and coming Aquarius age (1433 -3574) promoting rationality. Though we have experienced some major throwbacks to medievalism over the last 500 years, these throwbacks are the aberration, as the worldwide tide under the Age of Aquarius is towards progressiveness and liberalism over the medium and long term – but not necessarily in the short term. At any turn, medieval Pisces can bite, and bite savagely such as the Spanish Inquisition, Hitler’s Third Reich, communist oppression, the USA’s history of overthrowing democratic countries not towing the American line and so on as some major examples only. The inadequate response to Climate Change can be considered another bite of the apple by medieval Pisces.
What can we expect from Libra? Libra likes parties, social events, women, art, gardens, the color green, compromises, armistices, peace and peace treaties as a few major archetypes. Libra prefers equity or the middle path over extremism! Libra is also associated with the Far East which includes China, Indo-China, Japan and immediate surrounding countries though Libra is not the primary sign for most of these countries. For example, China’s strongest sign is Cancer, while Japan is Scorpio, but the (Libra) Far East provides the counterbalance to the (Aries) West. Historically, China has nearly always surpassed (Aries) Europeans and all other parts of the world in nearly everything, and the recent rise of China is merely China returning to its natural state in world affairs. It has an extremely bad track record in maintaining a stable government but continues to exist regardless.
Not everything associated with Libra is positive, as all 12 zodiacal signs are associated with positive and negative archetypes. Libra is indecisive, so when action is needed on Climate Change, there is no mobilization of the necessary forces and resources countries would usually rely upon say, in times of war. You can also expect under Libra a slowdown, if not a retreat, in countries trying to outdo each other in building the tallest building – as engineering belongs to Aries – the opposite sign to Libra. Libra rules sugar (and carbohydrates) and so we are seeing this manifest in the world in the obesity and diabetes epidemic. People want to party hard, and this also fuels the rise of party drugs. Finally, Libra is associated with immaturity, and we are probably witnessing this global immaturity on exponential growth curve, but music will be playing and the alcohol will be flowing. At the end of the day, the world under Libra is like a girl that “justs wanna have fun”!
However, there is a very dark side to Libra (as with all zodiacal signs). Some of the greatest wars have occurred under Libra, as Libra rules opposition and major irreconcilable polarities. In horoscopic astrology, the appearance of Libra, its ruler Venus or the 7th house (Libra’s natural house) can all engender the formation of a major relationship, marriage, or business partnership, but it can also rule divorce, often acrimoniously, or the breakup of partnerships. Libra will also focus upon open opposition, and a brief examination of its role in previous incarnations will demonstrate its highly destructive side.
The last Libra period of a note (ie larger than a 15-month nano-age that appears approximately every 15 years) was the Libra micro-age decan (1910-15) followed by the more potent Libra micro-age decan overflow (1915-20) of the Aquarius micro-age (1910–25). The First World War (1914–18) fits amazingly well into the peak of Libra coinciding with its overflow. This was not a time of peace but war and its aftermath of destruction including a pandemic that killed more people in the world than the First World War.
The 18th century Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1856 -61-66) produced in its second and more powerful half the American Civil War (1861-65) which strongly suggests that Aries plays an active role in the gun-toting American culture. The Libra micro-age decan overflow (1861-66) cannot be solely blamed for the Civil War, as this Libra period was within the potent Cancer sub-age decan overflow (1851-1910) of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 2148) and Cancer is opposite Capricorn – a key sign in the astrological signature for the USA that the Puritans brought with them to America.
The earlier Libra micro-age and overflow (1791-1806-1821) again captures the devastating Napoleonic Wars (1803 – 1815) mainly in the more potent second part. The Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1746-51-56) saw the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) which included in the American theater the French and Indian War (1754 – 1763). This international war is considered by some to have the status of a world war and precursor of the two world wars of the 20th century. The world was learning how to produce world wars.
The even earlier Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1692-1697-1702) finds the beginning of another major European conflict – the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) which resulted in Britain’s rise as the leading European power with the simultaneous decline of the Dutch Republic. The American theater of this was Queen Anne’s War (1702 -1713) as a precursor to the French and Indian War.
The correlation between major historical wars and Libra micro-age decans or micro-ages is too strong to ignore, and so it must be assumed that of the many disagreements currently existing around the world, a new period of open conflict is not only possible but highly likely. Taking into account that the previous major Libra conflicts were all associated with the major powers of the times, any conflict associated with the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow, especially roughly associated with the second half or overflow period, will most likely involve the major power brokers of today’s world.
Therefore, we can assume that the relationship between the USA and China, with or without the involvement of Europeans (on the American side) and Russia (on the Chinese side) with Middle Eastern states probably involved – cannot be ruled out. The big question is really the nature of the conflict? Will it translate into actual hostilities, or will it be an economic war or proxy wars? Regardless, we must allow for a major conflict at the upper echelon of world powers above and beyond the normal petty conflicts we have periodically experienced since the end of the Second World War.
Doomsday people will go for a world war, but a Libra period will not produce a world war without major resonance with a stronger period. The First and Second World Wars occurred in the Pisces sub-age decan overflow (1910 – 1970) that was particularly strong in the first half (1910-1940). This Pisces sub-age decan overflow resonated with the strongest sign in the world – the Pisces age-overflow (1433-3574) and this Pisces sub-age decan overflow represents the strongest manifestation of Pisces in the world which will not be replicated for around another 25,000 years. The period 1910 to 1940 was an incredibly powerful cauldron. The current Libra micro-age decan and overflow sits under the Scorpio sub-age decan overflow (1970 – 2029) and while Scorpio can be a savage sign, it is not anywhere near as comparable to the period 1910 to 1940. Without the cauldron of the early 20th century, it is unlikely we will see a world war in the coming decade, but we must be prepared for some major conflagration or international discord above and beyond ‘normal’.
We will only be witnessing the glimmer of the distant Libra future over the next 10 years as the world is a long way away from such a dominant Libra reality – as this is reserved for the second half of the next century onward. Everyone will not be dressed up as young girls partying with ecstasy, as both the positive and negative sides of Libra will manifest. At the sharp edge of Libra is its quest for justice, equity, beauty and harmony, such as the mythical Garden of Eden, and it is no surprise that the Greens will benefit under Libra. Though other Libra areas should not be ignored, it is probably the growth of the Green Movement and environmentalists that will provide the greatest focus over the next 10 years but it is important to take note of all Libra archetypes if you are searching for it in world affairs over the coming decade. At the penultimate alternate festival in Australia straddling the 2020 New Year, their theme was appropriately “imagining a beautiful future.”
It is much better to focus on solutions than problems, and one reason why so many people seem so down and depressed is that they are focusing on the problems – ‘you grow like the company you keep’. The world has always had problems, and regularly very big problems. People go to what they focus on – so it is better to take note of all the positive buds or new Libra plants that have been sprouting over the decades which will contribute to a better but imperfect world. Of course, the message from the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2148), especially in the first half, is that security and strength will not be found in the world, and if you are looking for these qualities, it is necessary to search within, as the inner world is ruled by Scorpio. Looking for strength and security in the outer world is usually a case of chasing straws, and this is even magnified more in our current world with Scorpio ‘peaking’. Hopefully, Scorpio will not invoke any more use of nuclear weapons in the coming conflict, but this cannot be ruled out, especially until 2059, at which point Scorpio drops in intensity as the Scorpio quasi sub-age decan (1881 – 2059) concludes (see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details on quasi periods)
The solution to the major problems in the world will not come from anything other than more people being conscious and wanting more action on equity – especially involving the environment. Very few people make major changes to their belief systems or outlooks after the age of 25 years. It will be each new generational
crop that comes along with a far greater focus on climate change and equitable outcomes that will make the difference in the world. This has been occurring since the appearance of the (Libra) peace Movement in the 1960s. It now seems to be accelerating with the likes of Greta Thunberg sitting atop the iceberg of youthful climate activism and harnessing the youthful momentum of the Gemini sub-age and overflow (1970-2029-2088), especially in the years from 2029 onward.
An excellent calibrator for the coming change is the percentage of the population that votes Green. In my country, I have watched the Green vote go from around 5% in the 1980s to 10% to 12% recently. Based on the interaction of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791–1970-2148) with the Libra sub-age and overflow (1970–2148–2327) – the critical demarcation point this century is the year 2059 – the fulcrum point between the Scorpio quasi-age and Libra quasi-age. Scorpio is focused upon pollution and destruction – it is not a peaceful stable sign., but it also can result in a rebirth or renewal. Though it has brought nuclear bombs, tyrants and major destructive revolutions such as the communist revolution which just created even worse tyrants than existed previously and murdered millions of people in the process, it can also regenerate. Fortunately for the future, the addition of Libra is not normally a sign of violence or destruction.
However, many countries have democratic political systems that prevent or limit the influence of the Green movement. Two excellent examples are the USA and UK, which while nominally democratic, are extremely reticent in apportioning political influence to minor parties due to the gerrymander-style of democracy they have produced. Most institutions are conservative, so it should come as no surprise that the USA and UK so-called democratic governments favor conservative elements and conservative structures that prevent or severely limit significant fringe views such as the Greens. The members of the upper house in the UK are not even elected, while the upper house in the USA, the Senate, basically avoids giving voice to significant minorities by only allowing two senators per state which mostly only represents the two major parties. Both instances grossly distort democracy. This undemocratic reality is like racism, no one admits to it.
Nevertheless, despite the delusion of democracy in western society, the delusion of democracy is better than any other system going. Under democracy, we are forced to work with the lowest common denominator in the political arena, and so the dictatorship of the proletariat basically decides the political direction – Trump in the USA and Brexit in the UK are good examples of the proletariat in action. Under the first half of the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 Dec19-Nov 24) the proletariat is not happy with what (Leo) mainstream politics has given to them as they feel they have been ignored for decades – because they have.
If this was a permanent state of affairs, the world would probably not make it through the next century. Fortunately, there is an evolution in progress in western society, and the astrology of the astrological ages indicates that the hippies and peace movement of the 1960s and 70s has provided the ethos for the revolution of our times – and it is a non-violent revolution due to the growing strength of peaceful Libra. This evolution will make a big jump forward in 2059 when the fulcrum point between Scorpio and Libra occurs. My estimate is that by 2059, 20% of western voters will be solid Green voters, and it will be 50% by the middle of the following 22nd century. The violent revolutions of the previous two centuries occurred under Scorpio when monarchies around the world were overthrown and replaced by democracies, communism or dictators.
While the Green vote hitting 20% by 2059 may seem insignificant, 20% is the tipping point – once the support for something hits 20%, it is able to make major shifts in politics and society beyond the scope of their size. However, most of us will not see 2059, but we do get to see the budding and growth of the Green Evolution.
Like all other movements or political parties, the Green evolution and associated politics will definitely not be perfect – far from it. What is happening is that the current highly imperfect political system orientated towards the rich cannot deal with climate change and other ills of the world effectively. They will be replaced by another slightly less imperfect system that despite its imperfections, can address to a higher degree the major issues of our times. Western society has already experienced three major revolutions/evolutions since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, and the Peace and Green Movement is the fourth one and the one for our times – for better or worse. In centuries to come, it will also be ‘overthrown’ – due to the many imperfections that will prevent it from dealing with the issues of the future centuries. [see Is Western Society Due Another Revolution? ]
The rise of this new movement and political entity will not wipe out western society as we know it today. Nearly all elements will remain such as imperfect democracies, corporations, rich and poor, war and conflict and so on, but kind of limited, put into their place, or not so freely allowed to create utter chaos such as extreme capitalism has done to the world’s environment. The world has already rejected extreme socialism in the form of communism and just needs to also reject extreme capitalism currently strongly promoted by most conservative western governments with the unconscious support of their proletariats. Libra promotes a balance, not a wipeout. Furthermore, the medieval influence in western society will remain quite strong until at least 2500 AD, and even then, will continue on for almost another 2,000 years. People will not let go of their belief systems but are like birds in a cage with the door open – but unwilling to fly out to their freedom. The Green Movement also reeks of belief systems, just like the rest of society. This is why the Green Movement will also have an expiry date as belief systems are more static and find difficulty adapting to changed circumstances. The recent worldwide mainly religious-based pedophile scandal is a good example of inflexible belief systems hitting reality and is an excellent example of how medieval the world remains., but it is being slowly and surely chipped away over the centuries.
So what we get in the Libra micro-age decan and overflow over the next decade is a homeopathic taste of the future that most of us will not be alive to see. If you solely focus on the stupidity of the world, you will merely continue to get depressed. Look for positive archetypes associated with Libra – the momentum towards environmental justice and equity in general evoked by the Statute of Liberty – but currently mainly superficial and not yet fully manifested. It is also important to acknowledge the good that has been developed in western society over the last 500 years or so, as the only reason we are able to live and exist the way we do is due to the momentum of progress and liberal democracy over these 5 centuries. This is awesome (except for those hundreds of millions that were killed, displaced, persecuted or lived in poverty).
The Green and Peace Movements are a continuation of a very long process that was unleashed on an unsuspecting world when the Age of Aquarius arrived in 1433 AD and will stretch for thousands of years. Anything of substance seems to have a long germination process. Most of us alive today will only get to witness the germination of the new major evolution of western society which will effectively address Climate Change ultimately – plus some other inequities in society and politics such as the rich getting richer while the rest stagnate It is later generations that will get the major benefits. This does not mean that many other countries not part of western society will not do their share, but for the most part, ever since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, the rest of the world has followed the lead of western society. It hasn’t always been western society at the lead, nor will it always be in the future. The dice of the astrological ages seems to randomly select a different region to be new ‘leaders’. In the future, it may just select diffident groups within a homogenous worldwide society that is the likely outcome and end result of the Age of Aquarius?
There are already two possible manifestations of Libra that may have already raised its head. Firstly, on the 20th December 2019, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that the state must reduce its CO2 emissions. It is claimed that due to this landmark court ruling, climate action is now inseparable from human rights. The decision was based on Articles 2 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights which creates obligations for states to protect their citizens against dangerous climate change setting an international precedent. It is unlikely that this judgment will make any critical change for the better but at least it is a small step in the right direction. Law courts are ruled by Libra which is why you will often see a statue of the ancient goddess of justice holding a balance in front of major law courts. This is probably just a small part of the opening salvo from Libra.
Secondly, the authorization by President Trump of the killing of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad Airport on January 3 2020 indicates an increase in aggression by the US against Iran – its major foe in the Middle East. This is seen by most as an escalation of tensions and therefore conforms to the appearance of the Libra micro-age decan. The war-addicted USA may make an Iran conflict the catalyst for the next major international conflagration?
So in conclusion, the next 10 years is not just about the first significant manifestation of Libra since 1915-20, but also a foretaste or glimpse of our future world. While on the one hand, serious steps towards greater liberal democratic and green policies will certainly occur, the wildcard is major conflict. In the meantime, the same is playing out for Aquarius, because December 2019 to November 2024 is also the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow and will provide an insight for the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) that will also have a very profound influence upon the world later this century. Even most Millennials will not see Aquarius in full flight later this century. The real christening of the Age of Aquarius will occur in the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) – the strongest manifestation of Aquarius since the inception of the Age of Aquarius in 1433. It will really be something for our collectove descendants to behold.
Greta Thunberg photo: On 16 April 2019, Greta Thunberg was invited by the European Parliament to close the sessions of the Committee on the Environment.
While preparing one of my recent blog and video The Myth of Modernity, I gained a deeper insight into the interface between the Age of Pisces with the Age of Aquarius. Many astrologers have, for many decades, drawn the conclusion that the world is currently at the cusp of the Ages of Pisces and Aquarius, and that the influences of these two ages combine in the world today. On a simplistic level, they take the ongoing strength of (Pisces) religions combined with some of the trapping of Aquarius such as democracy, technology, flight, computers and so an as proof that we are experiencing this cusp.
While this approach is very popular, it is only half correct, but half correct is better than a random incorrect guess. The world is on the cusp of ages, but these nebulous cups can only come into effect once the new age begins. For example, 100 years before the end of the Age of Pisces, as with 50 years, 5 years or 5 months, there is no Aquarius hanging around. But as soon as the Age of Aquarius begins, the momentum from the Pisces age overflows onto the new Age of Aquarius and the archetypes associated with Pisces and Aquarius co-mingles. This occurs at the cusp of all ages and sub-periods of the ages such as age-decans, sub-ages and so on and the term I use is the Overflow Effect. [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies ]
I first discovered this Overflow Effect in 1987, and until very recently, I had understood that as each century passes in the new Age of Aquarius, the influence of Aquarius ‘grows’ while the lingering influence from Pisces ‘shrinks’! But this is overly simplistic and turns out to be not the case, because while the Aquarius influence definitely grows, so does the Pisces influence. This means that in 2019 and 2020, Pisces remains on a growth curve along with Aquarius. This is important to take into account, because for at least the first half of the Age of Aquarius, not only will Pisces be growing, it is possibly be growing even faster than Aquarius – and this will continue until at least 2503 AD – the midpoint of the Age of Aquarius.
What does this mean in reality? It means that for all societies, countries, regions and so on, people will often be more attracted to Pisces archetypes than Aquarius archetypes. Since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD, society has definitely been attracted to (Aquarius) technological advances, and such was the unprecedented developments and discoveries in science and technology, it was called the Scientific Revolution – which commenced no later than 1543 based on the works of Copernicus.
Copernicus was the first accepted authority in modern times that the Sun and planets did not orbit the Earth but the Earth orbited the Sun and was subordinate to it. This was heresy in the day, as humans traditionally take the point of view that they are superior and above everything else, so if we live on Earth – Earth must be the center of the universe. Heretical scientists were executed for rejecting the ego-centric Earth-centered universe but this did not affect Copernicus as he died of old age the day he received the first copy of his book from the printers. Scientists are again being treated as heretics with regard to Climate Change.
Nevertheless, despite some early supporters being executed or punished, Aquarius scientific developments picked up speed over the succeeding centuries leading to the technological marvel of the modern world. Without going into detail, after similar early experimentation with democracy, democracy of one form or another became entrenched in most western nations by the second half of the 20th century. However, the gradual drift towards democracy met with the normal medieval suppression, persecutions and condemnation which remain widespread today in the ‘modern’ world that remains firmly bedded on medieval outlooks.
The reason why I state that the future has changed is that those forces aligned to (Pisces) medievalism that prefer suppression and persecution of scientific and liberal supporters are not withering on the vine and dying off, but are also getting stronger and more influential. Previously, I had not taken this into account, but with some recent giant backward steps toward medievalism in a number of leading western countries with the election of a veritable grifter to the US presidency and the electoral win by Brexiters in the UK, it can no longer be assumed that anything that aligns to Aquarius will be favored, and anything aligned to Pisces will be subjugated by Aquarius at our early stage in the Age of Aquarius.
It is highly instructive at this point to examine some key Pisces archetypes followed by key Aquarius archetypes. Pisces is orientated to large bureaucratic organization such as corporations and religions. The Roman Catholic Church virtually pioneered corporations combining both corporations and religions commencing around the 4th century AD. Corporations are ‘fake’ bodies, and anything that is fake is associated with Pisces – such as fake news. Pisces strongly promotes fake news, as with politicians and business people that employ lies, deceit and distortion to convince a gullible general public, as “gullibility” is also in the Pisces camp. Pisces does not produce a knowledgeable electorate. Pisces prefer belief systems over facts or rationality as was the case in medieval times.
Pisces also loves economic bubbles with investors partaking in mob behavior intent upon paying ridiculously high prices based purely on its future price rather than the fundamentals backing the “asset”. Naturally, Pisces likes products like Bitcoin which has no intrinsic value at all – just a demand-driven value. Pisces is the mob, and anyone who has encountered a mob will quickly realize that the mob does not respond to common sense and rationality, but will respond to the thrill of being part of the mob (or tribe) with its primal intensity. Fascism depends upon the mob.
Pisces does have a heart, and would like to save people from hell, and can even provide charity to the poor and downtrodden, and spiritual succor to those seeking a living connection to a higher cause through religious practices. It likes heavenly and earthly paradises and was very fond of Pacific islands but is also attracted to apocalypses and the end of the world or at least everything in it, as Pisces rules endings. Pisces does provide excellent music, dancing and drama and so is at one with Hollywood, Bollywood and all forms of entertainment that promote fiction and fantasy or just the simple pleasure entertainment can provide.
Aquarius is a totally different animal, and while Pisces is emotionally or feeling orientated, being a water sign, in contrast, Aquarius is intellectually orientated being an air sign. This is why Aquarius is thrilled by scientific discoveries, technology and a sense of fairness that translated to liberalism and democracy. It was only after Gutenberg invented his printing press around 1436 (only three years inside the Age of Aquarius), that the proliferation of intellectual ideas and inquiry took off as suddenly, many people began to have access to books that were previously only copied extremely slowly by hand. But what (Pisces) masterpieces the hand-copied manuscripts were with Pisces ruling the fine arts.
However, the Pisces and Aquarius ages are not iconoclastic but are forced to mix in their environment. When Aquarius gets fused to Pisces, it has produce fascism, and as an example only, many tens of millions of people were slaughtered in the 20th century due to the Nazi’s lofty (Pisces) ideal of a thousand years of peace – but unfortunately, if you had the wrong ethnicity, skin color or a different lifestyle such as being a gypsy, gay or a trade unionist – it would be arranged for you to be terminated. Fascists usually have a ‘magnetic’ or populace leader who can ‘electrify’ their supporters and excite them like a frenzied mob. Anything exciting is usually associated with Aquarius (as is electricity and magnetism).
This 20th-century fusion of Pisces and Aquarius called fascism creates some consternation for many people as the average person does not understand what fascism actually is. Basically, fascism is associated with anti-democratic sentiments, a powerful ruler with an agenda that usually includes the persecution of minorities, dissidents and those of alternate political persuasions and a favorite tool is to shame an opponent as unpatriotic. Fascism is almost exactly identical to communism except for the economic system employed. Fascists prefer capitalism while communists prefer socialism, but otherwise, their modus operandi is almost identical and both hate liberal democracy, equality and free-thinking.
The world is currently going through a mild resurgent neo-fascism phase again as the world is currently experiencing the strongest Aquarius sub-period within the Age of Aquarius since the last century. The Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) is the most powerful manifestation of Aquarius since the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940). That 20th century Aquarius micro-age and overflow also coincided with the high-point of Pisces peaking in 1910 in the center of the Pisces sub-age and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970). This strong overlap between Pisces and Aquarius saw the decimation of (Pisces) Europe by both the (Pisces-Aquarius) communists and fascists.
For the sake of simplicity, I employ medievalism for Pisces and modernism for Aquarius but it is important to note that both signs comprise positive and negative archetypes, and it is questionable if one sign is intrinsically better or worse than any other sign. However, the ‘growth’ of one sign does suggest the freshness of what is “new” as a positive connotation. Therefore anything associated with Aquarius belongs to the “new” camp while anything associated with Pisces represents the “old” or entrenched. Basically, it was not a nice place back “there”.
Previously I had assumed that the ongoing struggle between Aquarius (modernity) and Pisces (medievalism) would see a tendency for Aquarius to “win” in any contemporary struggle. This can no longer be taken for granted following the election of Donald Trump in the USA and confirmation in the recent UK election that the pro-Brexit forces should be able to proceed with Brexit unhindered by their ‘progressive’ opponents. These significant developments in western society associated with the first significant Aquarius sub-period since the first part of the 20th century need to be acknowledged and understood.
The only mitigating factor that suggests we should hold our judgment on the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) is that we are at the mid-way point which provides the demarcation between the Cancer dominated Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) and the Aquarius-Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is dominated by Aquarius. Cancer promotes populace leaders, anti-government sentiment and emotional responses to political issues, with a retreat to the homeland strongly favored. Cancer ceases to be prominent in 2020 onward, and Aquarius jumps up a gear. Each side of politics will take advantage of this new reality, but it will be the extremists on both sides that “win” as Aquarius undermines the mainstream in favor of radicals and extremists.
On the progressive side of politics, progress is viewed as being much slower than progressives would like to acknowledge. However, the 10% to 20% of people that are hardcore progressives do not really represent mainstream society any more than Donald Trump and his hardcore supporters. The astrology associated with the Age of Aquarius suggests that what most progressives and climate change activists want, will not manifest until around midway next century. Even at the most extreme positive view of the current century, it will take until around the year 2059 for 20% of western society to be ardent and hardcore climate change activists or at least vote for one! A few years ago when Al Gore visited, he stated to the effect that:
‘Expected change comes far more slowly than expected, but once it does, it occurs far more quickly than expected’.
Most progressives I talk to don’t like this at all – but this is both the political and astrological reality. A good way to see how progress manifests from year to year is that, at best, 51% of new laws, government edicts and so on may favor modernist Aquarius, while 49% favor medieval Pisces. Over the long term, this does result in the world changing towards the modern and rational – and the last five centuries proves this, but this change is still at a slow pace. Furthermore, the long-term preference toward modernity in the Age of Aquarius does not have to be reflected in the short term – and so at times, far more legal and societal preference can be toward medieval Pisces with modernist Aquarius ostracized such as we have recently experienced in the USA, UK and various other countries.
It is also important to realize that the progressive and conservative sides of politics are not focused only upon Aquarius modernity or Pisces medievalism. Each side, along with all people, are affected by and attracted to archetypes associated with both signs. A progressive group can employ medieval techniques, while a conservative group can employ modern or democratic techniques such as Trump’s son-in-law harnessing social media to get their message across to critical political battlegrounds. Politics, as with the world, is not black and white, good or bad and so on. Conservatives are not evil and progressives are not good. Everyone, and all groups are a combination of both elements.
How the world moves ‘forward’ towards Aquarius modernity is somewhat like evolution. People, societies and governments do a whole range of things, some
good and some bad, and either side of politics will do both. However, over time, the ‘bad’ is overthrown or relegated to the dustbin of history, and the ‘good’ tends to survive – but not necessarily in the short term. For example, in the UK, it will take some time for the British to discover if Brexit is good or bad in the same way when Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from Germany in 1938 and received a rowdy homecoming after signing a peace pact with Nazi Germany.
“Jubilation and waves of relief washed over London in a celebration that had not been seen since the armistice that silenced the guns of World War I.”
In retrospect, this was one of the biggest disasters for the UK in close to a thousand years and almost saw them being invaded. Unfortunately for the UK, the astrology of Brexit also indicates this is an unmitigated disaster and the British will have to discover this for themselves the hard way. The astrology indicates if it wasn’t Brexit, the British would have done something equally stupid, so it does seem kind of inevitable? Perhaps if Brexit did not occur, the Atlantic Conveyor Belt may have been impacted by Climate Change with the average temperature in the UK dropping 10 degrees C? If the sages are correct, perfection or anything near it cannot be experienced on Earth by us mere mortals anyway.
So in conclusion, the future has not really changed, but my understanding of it has. No longer can it be assumed that the progressive side of politics has a substantial lead over the conservative side of politics as a fait accompli in any situation. For frustrated progressives dismayed at the direction the world is heading, patience and an appreciation of historical cycles is required to understand that even contemporary western society has most of its fundamental values sourced from medievalism and most progressives employ medieval techniques to promote their message.
Furthermore, medievalism from both sides of politics will often triumph over modernity even after more than 500 years of the Age of Aquarius because the strongest sign in the Age of Aquarius is actually medieval Pisces! It is better to understand the nature of medievalism to understand the modern world – which I refer to in my book as the Age of Techno-Medievalism. Our so-called modernity is a (Pisces) delusion (technology excepted). As a simple example, scientists are again falling foul of medieval governments over Climate Change just as renaissance scientists were persecuted for claiming the Earth orbited the Sun. Hey, but courtesy of Pisces and Aquarius, you can always binge on Netflix or Amazon Prime to drown your sorrows?
The UK General Election on December 12 2019 is astrologically remarkable because it occurs at the ‘peak’ of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024). [see This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan for details on this micro-age decan ] Aquarius promotes extremists and extremism at the expense of the middle ground. This is why extremists have been able to capture the American presidency, convince enough UK voters in 2016 to choose Brexit combined with a number of leaders around the world falling into line or mimicking the new breakout by the hard rightwing politicians.
Hard left politicians are also on the rise such as Jeremy Corbyn in the UK and Bernie Sanders in the USA. but their impact on mainstream politics has not yet materialized as the center stage has been stolen by the hard right. What is more noticeable is the civil disturbances around the world against intractable governments. At the time of publication, Hong Kong, Lebanon, Chile, Iraq, Pakistan, Barcelona, Holland, France, Peru and Haiti to name a few of the major outbursts against mainly unjust or inequitable government policies regardless of the democratic standing of the government. Aquarius promotes rebellion.
The current Aquarius period does have astrological precedence as the very last time Aquarius was strong, the world had to withstand Hitler, Mussolini and Franco in Europe alone. The previous Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) was three times stronger and three-time longer with the most potent time for extremists being 1925 to 1933. However, extremists under Aquarius only seem to swing mature societies and democracies initially as the new extremists tend to appear like a bolt of lightning and can catch many people unawares. Many Germans in the 1930s were magnetized by Hitler. Extremists have the ability to maintain a cult-like following, and once a cult is formed, the leader is above reproach.
In the 1920s and 30s, neither Germany, Italy or Spain had an entrenched democratic tradition, and so it was much easier for extremists to get away with denying their citizens the normal democratic rights including the rule of law as occurred in Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan. The USSR was also created by extremists due to the lack of an entrenched democratic tradition in Russia. Aquarian extremists can be on either side of politics – hard right (including fascism) or extreme left (including communism). They both tend to have the same outcome – failure.
Entrenched democracies are much harder to permanently sway as extremists only seem to have more effect on mature societies in the first half until the society wakes up and realizes that the wool has been pulled over their eyes. Extremists (on the right or left) cannot help but avoid honesty or the ethical norms of mainstream society. So the big test for the UK general election in 2019 is really a measure of the UK’s political maturity. Taking into account its heritage, the UK represents both the leading edge and anachronistic practices in its form of democratic government – after all, having a House of Lords is a duplicitous exercise in anti-democratic behavior. The UK’s first-past-the-post voting is another desecration of democracy. In our contemporary world, the delusion of democracy is as major as the myth of modernity.
With the UK general election in December at the exact upper peak of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), it is really a matter of the susceptibility of the UK general public to the notion that the UK would be better outside of the European Union. The lies, falsehoods and untruths that were employed by the pro-Brexiters in the 2016 referendum is widely publicized and is enough in itself to decide which side to trust – if only rationality needed to be taken into account. Even entrenched modern democracies remain enchanted with contemporary medievalism because the primary influence of Pisces in the first half of the Age of Aquarius is caused by the overflow from the Pisces age (732 BC – 1433 AD) with the strongest experience of Pisces medievalism over a 26,000 years period being 1433 AD to 2503 AD (the first half of the Age of Aquarius (1433 AD – 3574).
At our current stage within the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574), the influence of medievalism, overflowing from the Pisces age, remains more influential than Aquarius rationality. Tribalism, delusion, deceit, petty dislikes, fear of the foreign (i.e. foreigners) and so on remain highly influential around the world, including so-called modern societies with liberal-democracies, and especially in the many sham democracies around the world. This is why most advances of liberal democratic ideals over the last five centuries since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD are so strongly opposed because the forces of medievalism are entrenched and very strong. People are still hypnotized by belief systems.
However, many UK citizens, (plus Americans and many people in most countries) are not politically sophisticated but only know that they have been shafted by the ‘establishment’ for many decades as the end result of globalization and extreme capitalism. Voting for Brexit (or Trump) was a form of vengeance or recoil at how the world is moving ahead leaving them in the dust. This is understandable because they have been shafted and left in the dust. It is rather perverse that in retaliation they pick as their new saviors that side of politics that have created the greatest mayhem for them over the decades (and centuries). This is not accidental, as the conservative side of politics has the financial resources to twist and distort the political debate in favor of conservative politicians and parties – Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News is a classic example. It is in the best interest of the corporate elite and rich to side with the downtrodden to prevent leftwing and socialist policies improving the lot of the downtrodden – as the downtrodden are rarely politically sophisticated and tend to believe anyone selling an easy fix and who behave like a John Wayne clone.
Democracy is a complicated business, and it could easily be argued that democracy is really the dictatorship of the proletariat, as the lowest common denominator can often rule in a democracy. In the absence of leadership, Brexit and Trump can easily occur. The Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow is not the only strong astrological influence around at present – the world is currently in the most potent 7 ½ years of the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029), and in Cancer periods, the general public (ruled by Cancer) is in fear due to their hypersensitivity, and politicians are willing to exploit these fears. Also, Cancer will promote people to be homeland-orientated and therefore hypersensitive about refugees and immigrants ‘invading’ their country.
Unfortunately, Cancer undermines Capricorn resulting in a shortfall of real leaders and strategic goals. This is one of the main reasons why the world is going down the environmental tube leaving an utter catastrophe for the following generations because there are not enough real leaders in the world to lead the world out of this massive mess. For example, in Murdoch’s Australian press, most journalists have moved on from decades of denying climate change outright, as even blind Freddy can see unprecedented fires ravishing the land. So their new response is to say it is too late to do anything meaningful about it and what is the point of Australian doing anything when it only contributes less than 2% towards worldwide climate change anyway? There is little or no leadership in the world at present under Cancer. [see Cancer – the New Paradigm for the World ]
Finally, the world is passing through the much larger Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 -2088) of the Libra sub-age (1970m – 2148) which has two main consequential effects on modern society. Firstly, everyone wants everything now so businesses, corporations and governments are orientated towards short-termism, and secondly, ethics and morality have been thrown out with the bathwater. Sagittarius rules ethics and morality but is in detriment in a Gemini period. We even have politicians in Australia lying and misrepresenting to the general public after they have taken virtual media lessons from Donald Trump whose approach to everything is to first lie, then lie more and louder each time the lie is repudiated or proven wrong. However, their supporters adoringly look to their leader as their savior who can do no wrong, and any criticism of their leader is merely fake news. Medievalism is not only alive and strong in our so-called modern world, but it is also stronger and more influential than modernity and its trappings such as real democracy. This perverse reality, though firmly entrenched, is constantly being nibbled at the edges by rationality and democracy as Aquarius is on a slow growth curve.
There is little difference between Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and Donald Trump and their clones. Which way will the UK go? My astrological bet is that the UK is entering the second stage of the current Aquarius micro-age and overflow – and will adopt a slightly more nuanced, educated or rational approach to their political concerns. UK society appears to be in a period of correction from the excesses associated with Brexit. This is why Theresa May lost the Tory majority in the previous elections and neither Theresa May or Boris Johnson could enact Brexit even though they were prime ministers and ostensibly the head of the government. With December 2019 the fulcrum point for the current Aquarius period, the edge must go further to the Remainders, but only the edge.
I will be watching the results of the 2019 UK election keenly, as it provides fascinating live input into my understanding of macro-astrology. One should not have too great an expectation of the results when medievalism is so strong in the world. The biggest change within the UK should come with a second referendum on Brexit – highly favored astrologically post December 2019. However, referendum or not, this is not a good time for Leo UK.
In parallel to the absurd political machinations associated with Aquarian periods, the British royalty also usually takes a hit. Last time around it was the abdication of King Edward VIII in 1936, this time, so far, it is Prince Andrew and his affiliation with Jeffrey Epstein.
The UK just does not do well in Aquarian periods over the last 2,000 years – at least back as far as the defeat of the warrior-queen Boudica, followed by the War of the Roses and Britains Darkest Hour in the Second World War – all of which occurred when Aquarius was strong, one way or another. It gets much worse for the UK later this century. In the meantime, no matter which way the UK goes in relation to Brexit, it will remain a highly divided nation for at least the next 5 years while the Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 19 – Nov 24) overflow reigns. Aquarius provides the best solution in this situation – another referendum!
For an astrological analysis of the three main contenders in the UK election CLICK HERE.
“The Brexit referendum in 2016 occurred early in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) of the Gemini micro-age (2014 – 2029) of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) – the forth sub-age within the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574), and all these zodiacal signs are antithetical to the signs in the astrological signature for the UK. This suggests that Brexit will bring the UK no benefits, but for the short term, it also suggests a damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t scenario due to the polarization that has occurred in the UK on this issue, very similar to the divide that has embraced the USA under President Trump. Aquarius does not favor the mainstream – it favors extremists, fringes and radicals, and politicians are taking advantage of this temporary rejection of middle-of-the-road politics in an attempt to shift the political agenda to radical or other extremist agendas. The initial impulse has mainly been towards the hard right wing and even neo-fascist side of politics – but it remains early days yet for the current Aquarius period.” Background to Brexit
On an extremely elementary level, myth is associated with Pisces and modernity with Aquarius and this dichotomy provides the crux of not only this post, but the big-picture view of our world at large. Though the world is currently in the Age of Aquarius, the overflow from the previous age of Pisces is even stronger – especially in the first half of the Age of Aquarius [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details]. A more inclusive way to name the Age of Aquarius is the Pisces-Aquarius age, which followed the Aries-Pisces age (when Aries was more powerful than Pisces). The combination of Pisces with Aquarius means that the influence of ‘myth’ from the Pisces age overflowing into the Aquarian age is greater than the influence of modernity even though modernity is easier to perceive – which is why most people live in the delusion that we are modern.
It is extremely easy to see modernity as it is represented by electricity, computers, technology, the internet, flight and the most widespread application of various forms and quality of democracy in the world to date – with most of this evidence tangible to the eye (with only democracy being the most nebulous item in this list). Myth is a far more imprecise concept to deal with as it behaves like smoke and mirrors – what you perceive is not necessarily what exists if you can perceive anything at all!
Modernity is not a myth, the myth is that most people perceive that the world is modern without any qualification – an axiomatic situation. Modernity may be the most noticeable game in town but Pisces’ myth and other Pisces’ associations are more influential in contemporary society and current affairs compared to Aquarius archetypes. Modernity only plays the supporting role to myth, yet people believe modernity is the main focus. This surreal situation is created by Pisces – the sign of delusion, illusion and vagueness overflowing into our ‘modern’ time. Pisces is the branch we are all sitting upon as our reference point which, due to the nature of Pisces, we are generally unaware. Furthermore, Pisces promotes medievalism – the name historians gave to that period before the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century.
What is medievalism? There are a number of definitions and associations to medievalism, but in general terms, it refers to that period when there were knights in white shining armor, kings, lords, dukes, barons and so on ruled the lands either benevolently or ruthlessly via a system of feudalism that resembled slavery – another archetype belonging to Pisces. It was a time when (Pisces) Christianity had an extremely strong influence in western society where the beliefs of individuals could be classified as heretical at the whim of the church followed by punishment of one form or another – including the possibility of execution.
In medieval society, logical understanding and rationality took the back seat to knee-jerk reactions and decisions based on dogmatism, chauvinism and sectarianism rather than fact – similar to how many or most contemporary politicians and governments often operate today. Facts were scarce in medieval times, and to fill the vacuum, beliefs filled the void. The time of medievalism was known as “a period contrary to reason.”[i] Anything different was generally feared, ostracized or condemned and very little accurate information was known about the laws of physics or science. Society was marked by prejudices and taboos – females were considered inferior, and people could and would believe anything – just as many follow this pattern today.
The more correct term for the current Age of Aquarius is the Age of Pisces-Aquarius, and this indicates that while medievalism is supposedly finished, it actually has continued to exist and dominates society – though feudalism has disappeared. Another difference between contemporary society and medieval society is that our society has made some progress in extracting itself from irrationality, but the main difference is our harnessing of technology since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century. This is why historians claim that medievalism finished in the 15th century and was replaced by Early Modernity. Wikipedia states that Early Modernity, based on traditional historiography, arrived in 1453 – only 20 years after the arrival of the Age of Aquarius (or Pisces-Aquarius age). Some historians claim Early Modernity arrived in 1436[ii] – displaying a scant three year error to the correct date.
Early Modernity led to Modernity around the 18th century but while historians and people, in general, congratulate themselves on modernity, this places the focus upon mainly technological developments and ignores the root medievalism that permeates contemporary western society. Just consider that at the apex of modernity supposedly sits the USA – but about 25% of Americans refute the idea of evolution and the Big Bang about 13 billion years ago, and embrace a conception of the world that has existed for only about 6,000 years. This is not the only example of contemporary medievalism. A better description of western society since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century is that we live in the age of Techno-Medievalism.
There are so many examples of contemporary medievalism in society, and when we leave western society and examine Second and Third World countries – the medievalism jumps in magnitude. One easy way to see this is that in many Second and Third World countries, religious doctrine of one sort or another is written into law and enforceable by governments – with some ‘modern’ western countries also enforcing religious doctrines usually based on some fundamentalist Christian belief. Another classic example is President Trump – irrational, often incoherent, appearing deceptive and deceitful but supported by a very large minority of voting Americans because he promises to support their values – with most of these values based on conservative belief systems sourced from medieval outlooks.
There is a very good reason why the USA embodies technological advances and democratic practices on the one hand, and atavistic belief systems with strong fundamentalist Christian overtones on the other. The USA was settled by basically medieval Europeans who brought their medieval belief systems with them. Europe continued to evolve, but their colonizing cousins who went to America held on to many of their medieval beliefs far longer than Europeans due to their ‘isolation’ from Europe. Europe at that time was at the nexus for the cutting edge of progressive developments and European society moved on somewhat. This is similar to what many 20th-century immigrants experienced when migrating from post-war Europe to the USA, Canada, Australia and so on.
For example, so many Greeks migrated to Melbourne, Australia after the Second World War that Melbourne was labeled the third largest Greek city in the world. But when many of these Greek migrants eventually returned to Greece after many decades, they were shocked to find that the Greece culture they knew and kept alive in Melbourne no longer existed – as the Greeks in Greece had continued to evolve their culture. I have heard similar stories about Pakistanis migrating to the UK.
Unless we recognize that we are not modern but live in the Age of Techno-Medievalism, we are deluding ourselves. However, this does not mean that things do not or cannot improve – the dramatic improvements I have experienced in my lifetime are awesome. No longer does religion have a stranglehold over western legal systems as it did back in the 1950s. Then there is the sexual revolution that came out of the 1960s and the decriminalization of homosexuality, abortion and the recent judicial investigations of religious sexual deviants. Recreational, and in some cases hard drugs, have been partially or completely decriminalized or approaching a medical condition rather than a legal issue in many western nations. Even Malaysia has recently acknowledged they have lost their war on drugs and plan to decriminalize drugs. Euthanasia is seeing the light of day.
The problem with the many recent social and legal improvements is that people don’t seem to notice them – their focus remains on the ills and deficiencies of contemporary society and legal systems. By analogy, it is like entering a room that urgently needed all surfaces painted. If a painter turns up to do the job, but runs out of paint before the last wall is painted – which wall will draw your attention when you enter the room? The unpainted wall of course. This is what many progressives tend to do, not acknowledge the gains and only focusing upon the ills of society.
Modernity is a development in progress. It did not wait until the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD to start splashing, but with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius – Modernity got down to the serious business of modernizing the world. But, according to the astrological ages, Modernity, and all its trappings, is a process that parallels the Aquarian age and overflow (1433 – 3574 – 5697) and furthermore, its momentum will strongly extend about another seven centuries past 5697 to c.6397 AD before it starts experiencing a serious pushback (from the Leo age-decan of the distant Sagittarius age).
Based on the above, if we take the whole period where the process of modernization is under development (1433 – 6397), a period of 4,964 years, in the year 2019 we are only 586 years inside this modernizing period. This indicates that only approximately 12% of the possible modernization to come has made its impact to date. The remaining ‘necessary’ 88% of modernization remains to be tackled. This is a very low level of modernization in our world, as the medieval influence can be argued to sit at around 88%.
The world remains at the kindergarten level of modernization (and democracy) – much more is yet to come. So the big question is – what fills the gap between contemporary modernization and the level we are to achieve over the coming millennia? It is mainly Pisces archetypes with a dash of Aries. The world remains strongly influenced by the Aries age and overflow (2916 BC – 732 BC – 1433 AD) and while the momentum from this Aries epoch continues on with its male macho aggressive influence – its days are numbered. The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) is in the process of overthrowing the vestige influence from the Aries epoch, and the recent strides females have made since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan is part of the accelerating Libra influence (which shifted into second gear in 1791). Libra is even stronger next century (when it shifts into third gear). In the meantime, we still have leaders in the world mentioning the possibility of using nuclear weapons demonstrating the ongoing legacy of violent Aries.
The Pisces epoch is defined as the Pisces age and overflow (732 BC – 1433 AD – 3574 AD), plus an additional seven centuries at the end (until it hits the might of the Virgo age-decan and especially its overflow around 2,000 years from now). Pisces is not only the sign of today, it has also passed through about 80% of its time of might and so we know a lot more about the influence of Pisces. In a nutshell, Pisces is associated with medievalism. Combine medievalism with the remnant from macho Aries and you have a popular combination for the president of the USA modeled after John Wayne. and a growing number of wannabees around the world such as the UK, Brazil and so on.
No sign is associated with only positive archetypes. The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) at the beginning of the Age of Aquarius breeds opposition. This may help explain the developing divide of progressive versus conservatives around the world – but mainly in western society at present as each side of the debate sours with increasing frustration at either lack of progress or too much progress. Another developing divide is autocratic governments (China, Russia etc) versus the ‘free’ world. These divides will grow over the coming centuries due to the increase in influence in the Libra age-decan and overflow, especially post 2148 – though the astrology does indicate the possibility of a compromise of sorts.
The currents Libra sub-age and overflow (1970 – 2148 – 2327) is accelerating toward the 2148 high point of the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius – the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863). This suggests that all those science fiction apocalyptic or doom and gloom scenarios that have presented to us about the future are actually the transformation of our current pessimistic outlooks into the future and does not take into account the ‘softening’ of the world social and political situation associated with Libra. Libra is not associated with austerity or living in caves or ruins of cities in a post-apocalyptic world due to climate change, nuclear war etc. However, it cannot be absolutely ruled out that Libra will return the world to its garden state because humanity has wiped itself out by nuclear or environmental issues before Libra extends its influence from around 2059 onward. If we survive, things look much better in the future, if we don’t, the world will improve anyway.
All the above however remains under the long term shift in emphasis from Pisces to Aquarius, and while progressive policies may fluctuate between centuries, it does not change the fundamental outlook that progress is a slow and extremely long term process. I am sure that in the middle of the next century, progressives will still be gnashing their teeth and conservatives searching for ways to trip them up. In addition, just to complicate matters, it is absurd to think that all initiatives of progressives or liberals are ‘good’ and that conservative initiatives are bad. This is an absurd gross oversimplification that would imply that progressives are better people than conservatives.
In my decades of research, I have come to the conclusion that nearly everyone believes they are doing the right thing – and promoting the best policies or outlooks for their family, community, society, nation and world regardless of their political orientation. It is important to be able to empathize with your political opponents and understand where they are coming from – because your opponent is usually equally sincere in their beliefs as you are.
In the meantime, living in the Age of Techno-Medievalism means that we must deal with a lot of backward and regressive issues due to our early position in Modernity. There is only so much modernization that can occur in every century, and we will have to realize that the sum total of modernity cannot arrive either in our lifetimes, this century – or even this millennium.
Furthermore, progressive are not anti-medieval and conservatives pro-medieval. This black and white narrative is incorrect. Every person, group and country is a mixture of medieval and rational attributes. The Greens and progressive political parties often demonstrate adherence to medieval values in their pursuit of modern progressive objectives. A classic example is Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior and its confrontational objectives. Another example is vegans breaking into animal farms and destroying property. Is it ideal to seek idealistic solutions using yesterdays’ confrontational methods? Many progressive believe so and indicates how pervasive Pisces medievalism remains out of control in our early 21st century world.
It is not good enough having progressive policies, it is also necessary to be highly conscious in dealing with opponents. For millennia to come, every Aquarius archetype that appears will be shadowed by Pisces! We all have the court jester, a knight in white shining armor, witch persecutor or damsel in distress in each of us. Instead of resorting to medieval tribalism, it is far more rational to respect political opponents and to be conscious in any dealings with them. The views of our conservative opponents are usually a reflection of their gestational social and family environment which is rarely under their control. A conservative cannot help being a conservative any more than a progressive can help being a progressive.
In conclusion, if you are a frustrated progressive, there is very little you can do to immediately correct all the ills in society other than by voting, expressing your opinions, belonging to groups engage in progressive change, participating in peaceful demonstrations etc with the understanding that progressive policies are very slow in arriving. On a recent visit by Al Gore to Australia, he stated to the effect that:
‘expected change is much slower in coming than what is expected, but when it does come, it comes much faster than expected’
Despite the need for progressives to be more realistic in the fulfillment of their expectations, what is under our control is our interrelationships with conservative people, institutions and governments and society as a whole. Gandhi captured the astrology of our times with his non-violent resistance. Non-violence also applies to the nature of our expression and treatment of people that do not agree with us. The only limit to our personal modernization is ourselves. Modernity may remain a myth for a long time to come, but our own personal or inner modernization is something we can all work on every day. The Age of Aquarius is not going to come along and deliver to us a fantasy world on a silver platter where everything is great – that is just a typical Pisces myth.

The Brexit referendum in 2016 occurred early in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) of the Gemini micro-age (2014 – 2029) of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) – the forth sub-age within the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574), and all these zodiacal signs are antithetical to the signs in the astrological signature for the UK. The initial impulse has mainly been towards the hard right wing and even neo-fascist side of politics – but it remains early days yet for the current Aquarius period.
My final analysis of Brexit will cover the clash between UK’s astrological signature and the signs of these times, especially the Brexit referendum while this background analysis is based on examining the UK’s performance under previous Aquarius micro-age decans (and micro-ages) as far back as the end of the Age of Pisces. This allows us to find thematic and archetypal diachronic connections that can shed light on Brexit and what it really means for the UK.
Many people think that any random development, such as Brexit, is reasonable if it agrees with their personal political views. For example, is Scotland better off as a separate country or part of the UK? To answer this, it is necessary to understand where the world is heading, because even without astrology, it is obvious that the evolution of civilization does indicate a direction to this evolution, otherwise we would be viewing the murder or killing of people on TV in replication of the Roman circus where such events were considered ‘normal’ to the spectators. There is both progress and acknowledgement that much more progress needs to occur due to numerous shortcomings with society and politics. It is easy to see the benefits and direction of progress over previous centuries and millennia, but how do we project progress into the future so that we can see how present events support or detract from the where the world is heading?
This is outside the scope of this analysis, but the astrology associated with the Age of Aquarius, suggests that the world is approaching greater aggregation, coordination and synchronization with the role of individual nations being sublimated into larger global structures, in the same way over the last millennium, small kingdoms and fiefdoms were combined to form the nation states of today. Small kingdoms and fiefdoms were a problem, and these problems were overcome by their absorption into larger structures that prevented them from fighting or undermining their neighbors. The same issue now faces nation-states that are not adequately synchronized with their neighbors and the world at large, especially in key issues such as climate change, civil rights, religious freedoms, military aggression and so on. I will be updating the last chapter in my book, The Dawning – Shedding New Light on the Astrological Ages, published in 2011, with a revised outline of the future at the first opportunity.
As previously stated, the Brexit referendum in 2016 occurred early in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is based on a five year micro-age decan followed by its overflow onto the following five year period like a wave [see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies]. In simple terms, the world rotates through five year micro-age decans representing all 12 zodiacal signs normally every 60 years (but with some minor variation at the cusp of sub-ages). Therefore all 12 signs are generally granted equal measure to influence events, and if this was solely the case, the world would just go around a merry-go-round with history constantly repeating itself. This means that democracy would usurp monarchs, only for monarchs to again usurp democracy ad infinitum.
However, the merry-go-round scenario is not strictly the case. It is due to resonance of these 5 years micro-age decans to larger periods that the relatively small micro-age decans are biased in their relative strengths with each other. Therefore, since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, any Aquarius micro-age decan (and Pisces micro-age decan) will have the edge on other micro-age decans due to resonance with the Pisces Age overflow and Age of Aquarius. Every Libra micro-age decan will also be more powerful due to resonance with the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2148). Since 1791, every Scorpio small period will resonate with the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148) and so on. It is these incremental differences between one sub-period and another that provides longer term trends in society. For example, since December 2014, the ages, sub-ages and micro-ages have, for the first time in around 7,000 years, fully aligned themselves to progressive influences but alas, also instability, and this is being played out now [see A Celebration 7,000 Years in the Making ].
The current Aquarius micro-age decan, and following two (Libra and Gemini micro-age decans) are more powerful than average, as each resonates with a larger period – Libra with the Libra age decan (1433 – 2148) and Gemini with the Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029). The larger the parent period, the greater the resonance between periods.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1373 – 1378 – 1382)
This period, set toward the end of the Pisces age (732 BC – 1433 AD), replicates the Brexit Aquarius micro-age decan inasmuch it is part of a Gemini micro-age and Cancer micro-age overflow, but all larger periods are different and they were also more favorable to the British compared to the Brexit period.
The pre-Protestant English Lollards under the Oxford scholar, John Wyclif, went on the attacked against papal authority, and due to some support from the English government, he was able to instigate virtual heresy against the Roman Catholic Church. John Wyclif promoted the reading of the Bible by ordinary people, and he was instrumental in producing the Wyclif Bible translated from Latin into Middle English.[i] Wyclif also promoted the role of the king over the pope and was an iconoclast inasmuch he opposed cherished beliefs and institutions that have become erroneous or pernicious – straight out of the Aquarius cookbook.
This small Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow demonstrates how the astrology of the astrological ages mimics and correlates to historical developments. This Aquarius period promoted revolutionary Aquarian ideals, but this period is not within the Age of Aquarius, so it does not have any real momentum behind it due to lack of resonance. However, when the next similar Aquarius period occurred, it was inside the Age of Aquarius, thus strengthening each and every Aquarian archetype resulting in not just a spat with the medieval Roman Catholic Church, but an actual split creating a completely different social-religious-political structure in Europe that lasted centuries. Resonance makes a big impact.
This Aquarius period witnessed appropriately, the English Peasants Revolt (1381) under Wat Tyler, which was initiated by widespread anger against a poll tax. Tyler led his followers on a march to London, taking Maidstown, Rochester, and Canterbury along the way. They tricked their way into London, marched down Fleet Street, beheaded a judge, archbishop and 18 leading citizens, and instigated even greater fury against the Flemish community. During negotiations with the King Richard II, the London mayor mortally struck Tyler with a sword, and the revolution was over, though the king pardoned all the assailants. Nevertheless, a major revolutionary assault was made against the British government in this early Aquarius period, and this really sets the tone for these Aquarius periods.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1468 – 1473 – 1478)
This period occurs within the Age of Aquarius and is part of a Libra micro-age. Royalty strongly figures in this period with the murder of insane King Henry VI in the Tower of London allowing for the reinstatement of Edward IV, part of the ongoing struggle between the houses of York and Lancashire and called the War of the Roses (1455 – 1487). This was definitely a period in Britain where the British royalty and therefore the government were in gross detriment which played itself out in the War of the Roses.
The full extent of the War of the Roses was probably an attribute of the Scorpio micro-age and overflow (1448 – 1463 – 1478) with Scorpio always a troublesome sign for the Taurus British. Also, the War of the Roses occurred in the Virgo sub-age decan (1433 – 1493) with Virgo opposed to Pisces, a sign that is associated with the British. Murdering the head of government continues the theme of angst between Aquarius and Leo Britain.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1523 – 1528 – 1533)
This period partly replicates the Brexit Aquarius period due to its location in a Gemini micro-age. This Aquarius period is associated with the reign of King Henry VIII including the annulment of his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon and the beginning of the English Reformation – a major revolutionary event in its day. The English Reformation is considered a part of the wider European Protestant Reformation, instigated by the (German) Martin Luther in this small Aquarius period with the new Protestants breaking away from the Roman Catholic Church and rejecting the authority of the Pope, extremely appropriate for revolutionary Aquarius. In hindsight, the Reformation was an early symptom of the newly arrived Age of Aquarius promoting democracy and rejecting (Leo) leaders, as the new Protestant churches instigated a number of democratic processes associated with congregations into its structures.
Martin Luther’s role also supports the long term association of Aquarius with Germany. In this case King Henry VIII wittingly, or unwittingly, sided with the revolutionary Luther in opposing the (Leo) might of the pope and Roman Catholic Church but for purely personal self-seeking reasons. The internal turmoil created by the English Reformation lasted until the Glorious Revolution in the following similar Aquarius micro-age decan in 1688.
This Aquarius period occurred in the lead up to the peak of the Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552), and with such strong support from Taurus, and from the Capricorn quasi sub-age (1523 – 1702), another sign favorable to the British, the greatest loser here was the external Roman Catholic Church with Britain formally leaving the fold. The Roman Catholic Church has Pisces and Scorpio at the top of its totem pole, and this Aquarius period was greatly influenced by Taurus and Virgo – both antithetical to the Christian church. The Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552) is also the same period as the overlapping Virgo sub-age decan overflow – bad news for Pisces-Scorpio Christianity.
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1582 – 1597 – 1612)
The anti-royal flavor of Aquarius quickly manifested when in 1587, Queen Elizabeth had Catholic Queen Mary beheaded. In the following year, the Spanish unleashed their invasion Armada against the British, only to have it disintegrate due to adverse weather and better tactics of the British with the Spanish losing 65 ships and 10,000 men compared to the English losing no ships and less than 100 men. Nevertheless, Queen Elizabeth scrapped with Parliament in 1593, where she asserted the monarchical right to assent or disagree with Parliament, and that religious matters and foreign affairs were the domain of the monarch. The newly elected parliamentarians from the middle class had another perspective.
The death of Queen Elizabeth in 1603 saw the thrones of England and Scotland combined under King James VI. Catholic Guy Fawkes was foiled in his attempt to kill King James VI and blow up Parliament in 1605 leading to centuries of fireworks for many British and their descendants around the world. Despite winning against the Spanish, this Aquarius period again demonstrates the traumatic events in Britain under Aquarius, and associated with a royal execution, and attempted royal murder. However, this small Aquarius period witnessed the birth of the American colonies, establishing their revolutionary spirit from birth under Aquarius.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1627 – 1632 – 1637)
This finds England under the reign of King Charles I (1600 – 1649) who believed in the divine right of kings, and so this Aquarius period witnessed a feud between the king and parliament with the general public opposed to his policies, especially taxation without parliamentary consent and his behavior as an absolute monarch. Ultimately this cost him his head. This is a straightforward anti-monarch period, but also a difficult period for the British as should be expected when Aquarius is strong.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1687 – 1692 – 1697)
The main game in town was the Glorious Revolution (1688) with the overthrow of King James II of England by a union of English Parliamentarians with the Dutch William III, Prince of Orange, who was James’s nephew and son-in-law. William’s successful invasion of England with a Dutch fleet and army led to his ascension to the throne as William III of after the Declaration of Right, leading to the Bill of Rights 1689. The initial dissent occurred due to the likelihood that King James’s Catholic son would take the British throne and therefore create the establishment of a Roman Catholic dynasty. Working with British parliamentarians, William successfully launched a large invasion fleet in 1688, and following the defeat of King James’s forces, James fled England. This revolution or invasion again indicates the ability of Aquarius to deeply undermine the integrity of Britain.
For British Catholics its effects were disastrous, both socially and politically, as for over a century Catholics were denied the right to vote and sit in Parliament; they were also denied commissions in the army, and the monarch was forbidden to be Catholic or to marry a Catholic – this latter prohibition remaining in force until 2015. Of course, the subsequent persecution of Catholics is good old Aquarius fascism. It has been argued, mainly by Whig historians, that James’s overthrow began modern English parliamentary democracy: the Bill of Rights 1689 has become one of the most important documents in the political history of Britain and never since has the monarch held absolute power.[ii]
The English Bill of Rights set out certain basic civil rights and clarified royal succession and laid down limits on the powers of the (Leo) monarch and sets out the rights of (Aquarius) Parliament, including the requirement for regular parliaments, free elections, and freedom of speech in Parliament. It sets out certain rights of individuals including the prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment and reestablished the right of Protestants to have arms for their defense within the rule of law. The Bill of Rights 1689 was one of the inspirations for the Bill of Rights in the USA.[iii]
This period is the source of America’s gun-toting culture as this Aquarius period was situated in the strongest part of the Aries sub-age decan and overflow (1612 – 1672 – 1731), that influenced the early years of the British settlement of North America. While the British moved on, many Americans have held fast to Aries inspired guns as the formative period for any nation is highly influential in creating national myths.
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1746 – 1761 – 1776)
This Aquarius period relates to the 20th century Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1940), and as a preview to the disastrous early 20th century for the UK, in this 18th century period, it ended with the beginning of the American War of Independence leading to the loss of its American colonies. This period also included the first war waged on a global scale, and therefore is a precursor to the two world wars in the 20th century. The Seven year’s War (1756 – 1763) went extremely well for the UK making the UK the dominant world power. This all occurred mainly in the first half of this Aquarius period, which coincides with the Pisces micro-age overflow (1746 – 1761) which probably astrologically accounts for this war as Europe always splits under Pisces, despite Pisces being its most influential sign.
The second half of this Aquarius period is closely aligned to the growing dissent within the Thirteen Colonies in North America leading to the beginning of the American Revolutionary War in 1775. This Aquarius period is located near the peak of the Sagittarius juggernaut associated with the massive Sagittarius quasi micro-age (1702 – 1881) which propelled the UK into the stratosphere. Nevertheless, the conditions that led to the loss of the thirteen colonies must be viewed as an unfortunate event for the British.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1796 – 1801)
This Aquarius period occurred in the Libra micro-age (1791 – 1806), at the very beginning of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970), and is in a period of astrological strength for the UK being at the highpoint of the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 – 1970), with a special positive and strong Sagittarius focus on the period 1791 – 1881. The UK jumped on to this Sagittarius period with the Industrial Revolution and then went on and created the greatest empire the world has ever experienced. Therefore, any difficulty experienced in an antithetical Aquarius micro-age decan is like a mouse being trod on by an elephant.
It is appropriate that this period commences with a quote from Thomas Paine “There is a dawn of reason rising in the world” as a salute to Aquarius, though it did not help him as he was executed in revolutionary France in 1794
The major issue that impacted the UK naturally was the French Revolution which was already in progress, but turned nasty under extremist Aquarius. The English and European royalty were naturally highly concerned that one of their members had been usurped by a popular revolution championing freedom and justice. This revolution found sympathizers in the UK who were subdued by the British government, one way or another. In response to Irish nationalists invigorated by the French Revolution, in 1791 the Protestants in Northern Ireland formed the Orange Society to protect their interests.
By 1792, reformers in England created organizations such as the Corresponding Society of London which called for male suffrage, annual parliaments, fairer land and legal systems, lower taxes, better education, prison reform and basic social security for the poor and elderly. In 1795 Britain invaded the Cape Colony in South Africa and subdued the revolutionary Boers who had already driven out the Dutch officials. In 1797 there were numerous mutinies in the Royal Navy perched to wage war against the revolutionary French.
Great Britain in 1793 orchestrated a union of European nations to protect the crowned heads of Europe against the French and demanded the French to restore their monarchy. As part of these frenetic times for European royalty and the status quo, the British instituted a savage response to dissenters in Scotland where the head judge decreed the British constitution was perfect, and therefore anyone proposing amendments was an enemy of state. Some revolutionary Scots were meeting their Irish counterparts in France.
By 1799, societies such as the Corresponding Society of London had been banned, their leaders imprisoned, trade unionists suppressed and newspaper heavily censored – to keep Aquarius’ fascist side invigorated. At the end of this period, Prime Minister William Pitt was forced to quit after suggesting to King George III that because of the dissolution of the Irish government and its amalgamation with Westminster, that British Catholics should be legally emancipated. This threw the mad king into a rage, and again we see the antipathy here between Aquarius and royalty – though he did not literally lose his head.
The Irish uprising and attempted French invasion of Ireland in 1798 was followed by the creation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801, and therefore the UK does have some minor inclusion of Aquarius in its astrological signature, but dwarfed by Sagittarius.
Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1856 – 1861)
This period is another partial replica of the Brexit-Aquarius period and found the UK in the midst of the Victorian era (1837 – 1901) and strategically located in Britain’s ‘Golden Years.’ (1850–1870). The main difference between the Aquarius period covering 1851 to 1860 compared to the current one (2014 – 2024) is that while both were also associated with a Cancer sub-age overflow, this 19th century Aquarian period was also at the peak of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1792 – 1851 – 1910) which magnifies the power of Cancer at least threefold (and probably nine fold) compared to 2014 to 2024. The absolutely strongest time for Cancer in this period was the period 1851 to 1881, tightly coinciding with Britain’s time of might (1850 – 1870), and substantiating the strong British association to Cancer through their Saxon roots. Therefore, it is necessary to weed out the Cancer influence that significantly contributed in pushing the UK to its greatest heights, and seek Aquarius in the cracks. This Aquarius period is therefore not the ideal comparison with the current one.
Britain fought alongside France in the Crimean War against Russia (1851 – 1856), and Russia has Aquarius high up its totem pole, and thus the most vexing military issue in the Victorian era was Russia, and nothing much has changed. Leo UK and Aquarius Russia were designed to be sparring partners. In the 1856 Treaty of Paris, Russia was prohibited from hosting a military presence in the Crimea and prevented from invading Turkey.[iv]
The Second Opium War saw Britain overpower the Qing dynasty in China and was the standard act of European imperialism and from the astrological context, (Leo) UK can be in fighting mode in any Aquarius period invoking the 7th house of opposition. Of course, the Second Opium War had the UK become the major drug pusher of the period. However, the UK was representative of the peak of European civilization, and this behavior was considered ‘normal’ at the time as Europeans considered that they were superior to other people around the world.
The most radical intellectual development appropriate to this Aquarius period was the publication by Charles Darwin of “On the Origin of Species” in 1859. The book aroused international interest and a widespread debate, with no sharp line between scientific issues and ideological, social and religious implications. Much of the initial reaction was hostile, but Darwin had to be taken seriously as a prominent and respected name in science. The major reactionary elements in this case was the Church, and demonstrates that in Aquarius periods, great leaps towards rationality can be made, but medieval reactionaries get fired up in defending their former positions of power.[v]
It is appropriate that in an Aquarius period, opposed to Leo ego, that that the human ego should be put back into its place. This ground breaking book was another major wedge driven between religions based on (Pisces) belief systems and (Aquarius) rationality. In the same way that in previous centuries, the Church opposed a Sun-centered solar system, with Charles Darwin suggesting that humans are related to chimpanzees, in both situations, it is the ego of humans that consider themselves superior and at the center of the universe that is undermined by Aquarian scientific advances. This exact same situation is replicated today in the issue of other evolved intelligent life existing elsewhere in the universe, with many promoting the statistically absurd notion that we are alone in the universe. The hairless chimpanzee always seems to extend its shelf life no matter how much progress towards rationality has occurred in the world. The hairless chimpanzee remains highly influential in world affairs until at least the end of the Pisces quasi-age in 2503 AD!
Another demonstration of Aquarius was the Indian Rebellion of 1857, known in India and Pakistan more correctly as the First War of Independence, which was a major uprising in India during 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company. This is a classic example of (Leo) imperial power squashing the rights of people, and treating them as second class citizens due to their different race. Unfortunately, the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow combined with the Sagittarius sub-age overflow greatly favored the imperialism of Great Britain at this point of time, who naturally considered that they were superior. A good argument can be made that the Leo aura associated with the British royalty, has over the centuries, descended to the average British person who feel that they are also somehow superior, and why would superior people need to be bound to their neighbors in the European Union?
Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 -1925 – 1940)
Apart from the calamitous two world wars, and loss of the largest empire the world has experienced to date, the prime archetypal event of the period was the abdication in 1936 by King Edward VIII. He seemed enamored by Aquarius archetypes due to his “apparent disregard for established constitutional conventions” followed by his proposal of marriage to a woman who had already been married twice – obviously a hanging offense in staid conservative UK in the 1930s. Aquarius likes tripping up staid conservatives. Due to the impossible position he found himself in, Edward VIII simply abdicated and became one of the shortest-reigning monarchs in British history. He appeared to have also been captivated by Hitler’s cult, and even gave a full Nazi salute in 1937 while visiting Germany.[vi] Aquarius fans the fires of fascism and progress.
However, this Aquarius period witnessed the opening scene for Britain’s “Darkest Hour”, coined by British prime minister Winston Churchill to describe the period of World War II between the Fall of France in June 1940 and the Axis invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 when the UK was under threat of imminent invasion. This says enough of the antipathy of Aquarius to the UK. This technically was not in the Aquarius micro-age decan, but it was due to the UK taking its eye off the ball in the 1930s that they almost lost their eye and ball as well. The British can be at the height of their collective stupidity in an Aquarius period, and the lead up to the Second World War was a classic example of this innate British stupidity.
To be contextually correct, the two world wars were not solely due to this Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow, but to the far more powerful Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) with the most powerful quarter ruling the period 1910 – 1940. This already powerful Pisces sub-age decan and overflow resonated with the super-massive Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3574) and this strength of Pisces will not be replicated in the world for around another 25,000 years. Europe is primarily ruled by Pisces, but whenever Pisces is strong, not only is there a focus upon Europe, but also on the two fish swimming in opposite directions. Europe always splits under Pisces, and both world wars demonstrated again this massive and major split endemic to Europe (and passed along to the USA). World wars are not a one-in-every-hundred-year event, but require a massive astrological underpinning – though in reality, apart from Japan in the Second World War, both world wars were really two European wars of self-destruction – entirely appropriate for Pisces. Also, the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) sits at the 12th house position to Pisces.
The common themes of these Aquarius periods are: trauma, such as attempted and actual invasions and revolutions; overthrow or assault on the monarch/government (including murder, executions and abdication) and loss, such as the American colonies and British Empire – combined with the extreme loss of clarity in the lead up to the Second World War, where it tried to appease Hitler (an extremely hard right and fascist leader), and now repeating this process on a smaller scale with the same lack of clarity in holding the Brexit referendum to appease the hard right politicians in the UK. The UK, and its previous incarnations, is rarely on hallowed ground under Aquarius. There is absolutely no support to the concept that the Brexit imbroglio is a strengthening or positive step for the UK based on the previous association of Britain to previous Aquarius micro-ages or micro-age decans. The exact opposite is indicated – the UK is usually in dire circumstances in these small Aquarius periods, even though this was self-inflicted due to the Tory government under Prime Minister Cameron trying to appease the hard right politicians in his party. Prime Minister Cameron, along with many people, was shocked by the outcome of the referendum, in the same way that the majority of Americans were shocked by the election of Donald Trump as president. One attribute of Aquarius is its ability to shock. The current Aquarius period remains emergent, so expect even greater lightening bolts from December 2019 onward when it goes into its more powerful overflow mode. We have seen the effects of reactionary politics under Trump and Brexit, but the reaction to the reactionary side usually follows.
