2024 in the Age of Aquarius

The world enters 2024 with several unresolved issues.  Some of the key issues at the end of 2023 leading into 2024 include the Israeli-Hamas conflict, the cost-of-living crisis, the housing crisis, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, widespread pessimism, the tail end of the Covid-19 pandemic, refugees and finally the possible election of Donald Trump as the president of the USA. There are also the outstanding discoveries of the James Web Space Telescope.

2024 remains another highly potent year compared to the average as the two key nano-ages that are activated in 2024 resonate with larger and more powerful periods. To arrive at any nano-age, it is necessary to start with an astrological age of some 2,150 years, and divide it into 12 sub-ages of approximately 178 years each.  These sub-ages can be further divided by 12 into micro-ages of some 15 years each.  These micro-ages can be divided by 12 into nano-ages of some 15 months each, and all these periods have three decans each, so a nano-age decan is approximately 5 months. [for more details, see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies ].

All the 5-month nano-age decans that will be in play up until November 2024 resonate with larger periods of the same sign.  For example, the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24) resonates with the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2149) [see Table 1].  Due to the resonance between the small Scorpio nano-age overflow with the far more influential Scorpio sub-age decan and sub-age overflow, the small Scorpio nano-age will have far more punch compared to a different nano-age or nano-age decan that has no resonance.

Table 1 – the Scorpio nano-age overflow (Aug 2023 – Nov 2024) strongly resonates with the Scorpio sub-age decan overflow and Scorpio sub-age overflow making this small Scorpio nano-age overflow potent. The quasi-period indicates which of the actual sign or overflow sign has the strongest impact. The three main signs for 2024 are Gemini, Libra and Scorpio.

The Scorpio nano-age overflow (August 2023 – November 2024)

The main story for 2024 is the continuing unfolding of the Scorpio nano-age overflow (Aug 23 – Nov 24).  Though Scorpio brings rebellions, revolutions, increased terrorism, nuclear threats and volcanic disruptions, it would be a mistake to state that 2024 will focus only on the difficult sides of Scorpio and that 2024 is therefore predicted to be a bad year.  The peaking of the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24) in August 2023 quickly experienced its effects on Taurus-aligned Israel with the unexpected attack by Hamas fighters from Gaza bringing death and abduction to some border Israeli districts and reigniting passions around the world.

Though Israel appears to have the upper hand in the current round of conflict with Hamas, the astrology indicates another perspective.  Scorpio promotes assaults upon (Taurus) Israel, and Scorpio is a strong influence in the world for the whole of this century.  Under the same Scorpio sub-age overflow in the previous Pisces age, the Jews were expelled from Israel by the Romans in 135 AD.  This is equivalent to about the year 2105.  The problem for Israel is that they must win every battle, while the Palestinians in league with many sympathetic neighbors, only need to win the last battle.  This will most likely occur before the end of the current Scorpio sub-age overflow in 2149 but unlikely in our lifetimes.

Scorpio is also a frugal financial influence, and this has manifested as the cost-of-living crisis that has occurred in many countries throughout the world.  Typically, Scorpio undermines the economy and banks, but this time, its focus seems to be on the shortage of money due to inflation – especially in the poorer half of society.  This difficult financial prognosis should affect most of 2024, but its intensity should subside before the end of 2024.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is unlikely to be resolved in Ukraine’s favor while Scorpio remains strong as Scorpio is strongly associated with Russia, and Scorpio’s opposite sign of Taurus seems associated with  Ukraine which was often called ‘the breadbasket of Europe’.  This may explain the current stalemate.

Other events associated with Scorpio include the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Fagradalsfjall in November 2023 following earlier eruptions in March 2021, August 2022 and July 2023.  This hive of activity followed 815 years of inactivity, and it is therefore notable that when it erupted around 1206 AD,[i] this occurred in the Taurus sub-age overflow (1075 – 1254) while the recent eruptions all occurred in the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2149) with Taurus and Scorpio opposite signs.  Any volcanic eruption can be associated with Scorpio, and for Scorpio, Taurus is a stressful sign sitting at the 7th house position. We may not have seen the end of erupting Fagradalsfjall.

Scorpio is associated with space travel and exploration.  Naturally, dark matter and dark energy are associated with Scorpio and the great majority of the universe is believed composed of dark matter and energy.  One of the key positive foci of the Scorpio nano-age and overflow has been the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) which was launched in December 2021 and by August 2022, just within the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24), started to provide insights into the early universe which has undermined much of the previous scientific expectations.

The JWST showed that primordial galaxies appeared much earlier.[ii] Judging by the reaction to the JWST images, a revolution is seeping throughout astronomy and the Standard Cosmological Model is under threat creating the Crisis in Cosmology[iii] – though in reality it is just an example of another step forward in our understanding of the universe.  Scorpio rules both revolutions and deep space, so these discoveries precipitated by the JWST perfectly correlate to this Scorpio nano-age and overflow as part of the skeleton of the massive Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2149)

Most people would expect that we are at the beginning of thousands of years of space exploration, but this is not what astrology indicates.  Our era of space exploration may only extend to the end of the next century when the influence of Scorpio peters out.  Other issues will replace space travel – for a while at least, and it could be many centuries before the world returns to intensive space exploration including space telescopes etc.  The economic trauma of climate change and major conflict in the 21st century may stifle space exploration before humanity regains its momentum established in the 20th century.

Libra nano-age (Aug 2023 – Nov 2024 – Feb 2026)

Table 2 – In November 2024, the Libra nano-age increases in strength as it goes into its overflow mode.  The Scorpio nano-age comes to an end while the Virgo nano-age makes its first tentative appearance.

The arrival of the Libra nano-age overflow in November 2024 is a major development because this Libra nano-age sits within the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) which moves into its more potent overflow stage for the period November 2024 until November 2029 as the following Table 3 indicates.

Table 3 – The Gemini micro-age (and overlapping Cancer micro-age overflow) indicates that in November 2024, the Libra micro-age moves into its more powerful overflow mode.

This Libra nano-age and Libra micro-age decan sits within both the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) which itself sits at a critical point in the massive Libra age decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) – see Table 4 below:

Table 4 – displaying the first third of the Age of Aquarius, specifically the Libra age-decan including the first four sub-ages of the Age of Aquarius.

The period November 2024 to November 2029 forms a critical part of the Libra age-decan backbone and will probably be the most potent period for most readers alive today other than those alive during the two decades surrounding 1970 – what colloquially is termed the Age of Aquarius but was actually the peak of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148) combining revolutionary Scorpio with revolutionary Aquarius and accounting for that massive cultural revolution that continues to pulsate through Western society today.

The last time the world experienced a Libra micro-age decan overflow was from 1915 to 1920 aligned with most of the First World War.   [see The Backbone of the Libra Age-Decan (1433 – 2149) ]. Also, it’s relevant to acknowledge the arrival of the Libra quasi nano-age (Apr 2024 – Jul 2025) which will again increase the likelihood of increased conflict in any current conflict, and an increase in conflict due to a new theater of war.

There is a good astrological reason why the prospect of a major war or conflict is gaining ground.  The current unrest between Palestinians and Israelis is in addition to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia which brought the most significant conflict back to Europe since the Second World War.  The world since early October 2023 now has two areas of greater tension than the normal African or South American wars or insurrections that always seem to exist.  Either of these two major conflagrations could lead to a much bigger conflict, or these two conflicts are setting a trend towards greater than average conflicts, and one or more new heightened conflicts could appear at any time and any one of these conflicts could get out of control.  This will be particularly potent from November 2024 onward when the Libra nano-age enters its overflow period and marks the start of the most potent time of conflict most people in the world will experience in their lives.  Occasionally Libra produces a peace treaty.

One example of the peace deals that also can be associated with Libra is the amnesty deal between the Spanish government and a Catalan separatist party in late 2023 which will allow the socialists to remain in power with the support of Catalonia.  The attempt by Catalonia to secede from Spain in late 2017 occurred under the revolutionary Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 – Dec 19 – Nov 24) but with the Aries nano-age and overflow (Mar 16 – Jun 17 – Sep 18) in play, activating the 12th house to Spain’s Taurus.  The fact that under the Scorpio-Libra[iv] nano-age (Aug 23 – Nov 24) a sort of reconciliation has occurred, is testimony to the treaty side of Libra, and also with Scorpio opposite Taurus Spain, this also activates the 7th house of alliances.  We may see another development in this story with the Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24).  The Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) promotes fragmentation.

The reason why we get caught off guard by pandemics and high-level conflict is due to the march of micro-ages and their decans.  Every age has twelve sub-ages of around 178 years each, and these sub-ages have twelve micro-ages of almost 15 years each including three decans of almost five years each.  Hardly anyone today has experienced the power of Libra before the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 19 – Nov 24 – Nov 29) as the last time the world experienced such a Libra period was from 1910 to 1920, so we do not have a collective memory of the direct experience of Libra at this level.

The same occurred with the Covid-19 pandemic which correlated to the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 19 – Nov 24) but the previous period when Aquarius had this strength was the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) so very few people have experienced the extreme disruption Aquarius invariably brings in its wake.  Before the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow I did not realize that one of the main attributes introduced to an unsuspecting world by Aquarius is disruption – such as we experienced during the Covid times.

The current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) has three sub-age decans and the relevant sub-age decan for 2024 is the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) with both Gemini and Libra dual-bodied signs.  This signifies that the world is returning to either a bipolar world or a fragmented world – or both. For better or worse, China will continue to extend its influence in the world, and ‘oppose’ or balance Western culture – one way or another. We are not going to be one big happy world this century or millennium as the Libra age-decan and overflow of the Aquarian age extends to 2865.  However, with Libra, there is always the possibility of peace accords and treaties.

Most of the manifestation of our tiny Libra nano-age and overflow should appear later in 2025, but Libra also promotes the reinstatement or elevation of the role of women.  While this is currently limited to mainly Western and modern nations, full social, legal and political equality remains elusive even in Western nations, and dwindles as we venture into Second World nations (Iran) with some reversals in Third World nations such as Afghanistan.  The world is currently in the Libra decan (1433 – 2149) of the Aquarian age (1433 – 3581), but while much progress has been made with women’s rights, this evolution in the world will require the addition of the Libra age-decan overflow (2149 – 2865) to see women’s rights as an entrenched global phenomenon.  This millennium is dedicated to women based on our place in the Age of Aquarius, but it will take most of the millennium to achieve.

Libra specifically implies equality, and as such has been the symbolic standard-bearer for post-Enlightenment equality and freedom in Western nations. All forms of art, beautiful objects, gardens, and the leisurely social life fall within Libra’s gambit. Libra rules young women and girls. On the downside, Libra themes encompass indecisiveness and hesitation, which may impede political decision-making. Any archetype associated with Libra’s opposite sign Aries is, in general, lacking in Libra, therefore Libra is not associated with major engineering feats, sport, and male heroes.

Libra relates to Protestantism, China and the oriental East in general, the USA and specifically with the USA government.  Any nation or region associated with Aries can either come under attack, or attack in a Libra period or suffer in some way. Aries is possibly associated with Australia, the whole of Europe and specifically Germany and the UK, plus Iran and Palestine.  Aries may also be associated with Afghanistan, Brazil, Canada, India, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia and even the gun-toting USA for obvious reasons.  Though war and conflict are not predicted exclusively for these Aries-aligned nation, they could be combatants in any conflict ahead, especially China with its Libra credentials.

Nano-age decans

Gemini nano-age decan overflow (January – June 2024)

The Gemini nano-age decan will enter its overflow mode in January 2024 until June 2024.  This little Gemini nano-age is resonating with the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which itself is part of the backbone of the Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029) of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149).  Gemini is a big deal for most of this century and will make a splash in the first third of 2024.

Table 5 – the nano-age decans and overflows for 2024

Gemini promotes the communication revolution that has followed the establishment of the World Wide Web but is anti-anything associated with Sagittarius such as international travel, honesty and ethics.  Gemini focuses on youth and students and vocational education, but also on scams, online theft and youth crime which is seeing a worldwide surge.  Gemini is the sign of cities so should continue to promote the influx of the world’s population to ever-larger urban centers.

Any Sagittarian country can suffer under Gemini.  This may apply to Australia, China, India, Laos, Spain, Thailand, UK, USA, Israel and the Vatican City.  This country list is not exhaustive, so I may not catch all countries with Sagittarius strongly placed in their respective astrological signatures.  Gemini countries can come under focus for good or bad and include Iraq, the Koreas, Singapore, Syria and Tajikstan, which again is not complete. Gemini activates Pisces countries or regions 4th house of anti-status, so these are worth noting: Europe, France, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, UK, USA, most Caribbean nations, Brunei, Cameroon, Czech Republic, most Polynesian countries, and Vatican City.

The relevance of this Gemini nano-age decan and especially its overflow is that most of the current century will have Gemini near the top of the totem pole due to the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) and 2029 is fast approaching.  This little nano-age is yet another preview for the times ahead.

Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24)

We enter 2024 under the influence of the Gemini nano-age decan and overflow (Aug 23 – Jan 24 – Jun 24) and the world will again have to cope with Aquarius associated with the overlapping Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24) especially in its second half.  Both these influences also resonate with more powerful periods, so never a dull moment in 2024.  The one to watch the most is the Aquarius nano-age decan (Jan 2024 – Jun 2024) especially when it enters the Aquarius nano-age decan overflow (Jun 2024 – Nov 2024) as this is the sting-in-the-tail of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 – Dec 19 – Nov 24) which has already upset much of the world with the arrival of Trump and populace right-wing politicians around the world, Brexit for Leo UK and the coup-de-gras – the Covid 19 pandemic that did more to interrupt the world than anything since the Second World War.

The sting-in-the-tail is the final fling of any sign, in this case, Aquarius.  What will Aquarius interrupt or significantly alter in 2024 – though mainly in the second half of 2024?  Firstly, it may see a resurgence of Covid-19.  COVID-19 appeared at the exact highpoint of the Aquarius micro-age and overflow in December 2019 and so this final sting-in-the-tail could see its return – but at a smaller scale and impact compared to its initial appearance.  It could also see something new that is an echo of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow encompasses the US presidential elections in November 2024.  Will Trump return in all his glory, or will his place be filled with a clone?  Will the presidential election have an unexpected result? Aquarius empowers Russia so will Russia wipe Ukraine off the map or will Ukraine’s fight for (Aquarius) liberty and freedom succeed? Aquarius is not good for Israel and so Israel may face greater-than-expected challenges in war with Hamas?

Major themes associated with Aquarius comprise democracy; electricity; flight; eccentricity; dictators and tyrants. Anything new including modernity, fresh developments especially in the scientific, mechanical and electrical fields, concepts and views of the future, the avant-garde, unique, sudden and unexpected developments, and science fiction (with Pisces). On the dark side of Aquarius are fascists, dictators, tyrants and autocratic governments, such as Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot and now Putin. Electricity, computers, and all associated technology including flight and space travel are Aquarius. Eccentrics (the mad professor), schizophrenics, fringe dwellers, different or abnormal behavior, astrology, astronomy, explorers, and anything exciting or bizarre are usually associated. Finally, Aquarius does everything quickly, like a bolt of lightning or with unprecedented speed. Aquarius is probably associated with world government.  Aquarian periods are generally ‘exciting’.

Countries associated with Aquarius include Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey and the USA.  A number of these may take significant focus in any Aquarius period, and not necessarily for anything positive.  Leo countries can experience stress in an Aquarius period.  Such countries include France, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Koreas, Laos, Serbia, Thailand, UK, Zimbabwe and probably Ukraine. The full scope of the Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow as the sting-in-the-tail of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow is the preview of a much larger Aquarius period whose might will not be experienced until around 2088 and beyond when the coming Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029 – 2088 – 2149) peaks in 2088.  This approaching Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow is the baptism of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3581) and I am sure the world will be both shocked and surprised as to what Aquarius brings to the table, in the same way we have been shocked and surprised at what the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) has brought us – but on a much smaller scale.  Our soon-to-end little Aquarius period is the preview of the approximate 120 years Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow.  Many key developments that have gained traction in our little Aquarius period will see their fruition around 2088 and beyond.  This naturally includes AI and the marvels of our computer age.  The scientific validity of astrology will probably occur around 2088.

Conclusion

Though the focus in 2024 sits with the key nano-ages and their decans that apply, the world remains in the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029), and Cancer will promote all domestic issues including the housing crisis and people looking for home – refugees.  Though not particularly in focus in 2024, they will remain contentious issues.  Cancer will continue to focus on all countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East, any Islamic nation and of course China.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia reflects the stress created between the Pisces and Aquarius ages.  Putin is a perfect reflection of the kind of leaders the world was forced to endure under the reign of the Pisces age while the Ukrainians prefer to live under Western-style liberal democracy fostered by Aquarius.  These types of conflicts and disputes will be entrenched in the world for quite some time. Nuclear threats and intimidation by the likes of Russia and North Korea should be expected at a minimum in 2024 as the world remains highly vulnerable under Scorpio. There could be an increased focus on nuclear power.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the result of the tail end of European colonialism when the West went out and conquered as much of the world as possible starting in the 15th century aligned with Pisces achieving its peak power in 1433 AD and washing over the following centuries.  The problem here is that the West has relinquished most of their conquered territories back to their original inhabitants since the Second World War, while the Israelis have tried to extend European imperialism past its use-by date.  The arguments by both sides are entirely understandable, but the track record shows that the Israelis will ultimately find themselves on the wrong side of history unless they learn how to peacefully co-exist with the Palestinians and their neighbors.

Covid-19 still may have a small punch left in its bag of tricks, or perhaps something similar will take its place in 2024.  Since the Great Recession (2007 – 2009), the world has seen central banks working overtime printing money to stimulate a sluggish world economic environment.  All that extra money slushing around can still only buy the same limited amount of goods available, so the price of shares in the stock market and real estate significantly increase, and then spread to consumer goods and services.  Such stimulatory packages intrinsically favor the rich half of society, as they own the majority of real estate and shares, while the poorer half of society must suffer a loss of purchasing power and thus experience a lower standard of living.

The increasingly pessimistic view of the world expressed by a growing number of people is a combination of Gemini and moody Cancer.  Gemini is opposite in nature to optimistic Sagittarius, and the ongoing influence from the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 -1970) is currently being torn to shreds by the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) to the detriment of optimism and the growth of Gemini pessimism.  The Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2024 – 2029) will make people hypersensitive and moody, thus producing a gloomy outlook for many people.

Finally, Scorpio remains the dominant influence for most of 2024 and Scorpio, amongst other things, is associated with inner truth and peace.  Though way outside the experience of most people, the strength of Scorpio in 2024 is as good as it gets for those rare seekers of Truth.  When the world presents itself at its blackest, it can coincide with when Truth is easiest to find compared to most times in history.  For those interested, you can fast-track your search at Words of Peace Global.

Note – Details on the Virgo nano-age (Nov 24 – Feb 26) and its Taurus nano-age decan (Nov 24 – Apr 25) will be posted later in 2024.

[iv] The Scorpio-Libra nano-age is another way of describing the period where the Scorpio nano-age overflow and overlapping Libra nano-age are in effect.

Total War & the Libra micro-age & overflow (1910 – 1915 –1920)

The Libra micro-age and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920)  was the last Libra period before our current one (the Libra micro-age decan and overflow Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029), and was a highly significant period where major inroads were made by females, war again broke new ground in ferocity and mindlessness and China broke free of its heredity monarchy.   The focus towards female enfranchisement was mainly focused upon western nations – as has been the case since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century when Europeans commenced their maritime discoveries followed by their ruthless conquest of the world.

Very quickly in 1911, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time across Europe.  Even the theft of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa from the Louvre museum in Paris in the same year can be linked back to the speculation that the painting is the very first painting of the modern woman near the beginning of both the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan.  Women went on trailblazing and in 1912 Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly across the English Channel and the Woman Suffrage Procession took place in Washington DC led by Inez Milholland on horseback.  The following year, Emily Davison, a British suffragette, ran out in front of the King’s horse, at The Derby and was critically trampled and died four days later in hospital.  It was also noted in Great Britain that, in the absence of men due to the First World War, not only did women replace men in the munitions factory, they were twice as efficient compared to when they were staffed exclusively by men.[1]

The world did not wait for this Libra MAD to grant women the vote, but only very few countries or states did so before this period.  An early country in this period was Norway when women got the vote in 1913.  In contrast, in 1915, the US House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote but ferment was in the air, and Denmark gave women the vote and Iceland followed (allowing women over 40 voting rights). In 1916 Margaret Sanger opened the first US birth control clinic, a forerunner of Planned Parenthood and Republican Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to the US House of Representatives. In 1917, women won the right to vote in New York State notwithstanding the “Night of Terror” when influential suffragettes from the Silent Sentinels were deliberately subjected to physical assaults by guards while imprisoned – the Nazi’s did not invent fascism.  The Russian Provisional Government enacted women’s suffrage and women were permitted to stand in national elections in the Netherlands.

As this Libra period came to a close, in 1918, most women in the UK over 30 were given the vote and Canadian women (excluding Quebec) were granted the right to vote in federal elections. Countess Constance Markievicz, while detained in Holloway Prison (London), became the first woman elected to the British House of Commons but did not take her seat.  1919 saw full women’s suffrage in the Netherland and finally at the 11th hour the United States Congress approved the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed suffrage to women and was ratified the following year.

Some famous women also became notable during this time.  Mata Hari was arrested in Paris for spying in 1918 and Dr. Marie Stopes published her influential book Married Love in the U.K. In 1920, the Australian soprano Nellie Melba became history’s first well-known performer to make a radio broadcast when she sang two arias as part of an experimental series of broadcasts from a studio at the Marconi Company’s factory at Chelmsford in England.  The Canadian-American actress, Mary Pickford (1892 – 1979), “the World’s Sweetheart” along with Charlie Chaplin and others founded United Artists in 1919 and was one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (created well after this Libra period).  Pickford was one of the most popular actresses of the 1910s and 1920s, earning the nickname “Queen of the Movies”[2] and obviously filling in for the goddess Venus.

Mary Pickford by Rufus Porter Moody c.1910

There are some other developments that are worth noting, commencing with the formation of the  Republic of China in 1912 after a revolution which overthrew the Qing dynasty, ending 5,000 years of monarchy in China and 267 years of the Manchu dynasty.  Libra has traditionally been associated with the Far East, and Libra seems to have a strong role in China’s astrological signature as opposed to Aries – common amongst all western nations. Also in 1912 the National Park Service was created in the USA, with parks and gardens also traditionally associated with Libra. In 1919 the Grand Canyon was made a National Park.  This connection to parks is noteworthy for the developing connection between Libra and the environmental movement.

Also in 1919, the League of Nations was founded whose principal mission was to maintain world peace and thus providing a strong link to Libra.  The USA’s innate Pisces’ nature saw it quickly retreat from international involvement and the US Senate spurned its membership of the League of Nations.  While this league was an abject failure, the astrology suggests that this is a seed for greater things to come – the world government greatly feared by many conservatives everywhere but without such an entity, a world devoid of major conflict or war is extremely unlikely. In 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was founded and is linked to Libra’s preference for justice such as the Black Lives Matter movement.  1920 also witnessed the launching of Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement in India, with the goal of obtaining independence from onerous British rule.  Earlier in this Libra period, Gandhi was leading the passive resistance against racial inequality in South Africa. Non-violent revolution is another hallmark of Libra.

1920 also saw the world’s first peaceful establishment of a social democratic government in Sweden. Social democracy theoretically promotes social justice within the framework of a liberal-democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented mixed economy, but wherever justice exists, so does Libra! Also in 1920, insulin was first isolated for the treatment of diabetes – the Libra disease due to Libra’s rulership of sugar and the current worldwide growing addiction to obesity as the new norm.

Libra has strong affinity to music, and so it is appropriate that jazz came of age under this Libra period.  The Original Dixieland Jass Band made the genre’s first recordings early in 1917, and their Livery Stable Blues became the earliest released jazz record. In 1919, Kid Ory’s Original Creole Jazz Band of musicians from New Orleans began playing in San Francisco and Los Angeles.[3]  This Libra period saw the birth of jazz as a major musical genre that displays no sign of abating its influence in the land of music.

“Tiger Rag” sheet music, 1918, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Leo Feist, New York.

Of course, the major event in this period was the monumental man-made disaster of the First World War triggered when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914, with the USA entering in 1917 and concluding on 11 November 1918.  With around 22 million deaths, it was one of the largest wars and deadliest conflicts in history. It also made history by being the ‘first total war’ and again confirms that each of these relatively small Libra periods, sitting within the Libra age decan (1433 – 2149), outstrips previous Libra periods in pushing the war envelope.  Unfortunately, this is an unsettling observation taking into account the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 2019 – November 2024 – November 2029) – especially its second half (November 2024 – November 2029).

No one zodiacal sign is going to create conflict – most events are associated with an astrological signature composed of a number of distinct components.  This Libra MAD&OF sits within the larger and more powerful Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 25 – 40).  Aquarius was the key sign associated with the rise of the extreme politics of communism and fascism that dictated events in this 30 year period.  Aquarius is the sign of disruption (not rainbows in the sky). The coup-de-gras however is the last of the three strongest manifestations of Pisces in the world which will not be experienced at such potency for around another 25,000 years.  1910 marked the highpoint of the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) resonating with the massive Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3581).  This was the main game in town for the first half of the 20th century.

Pisces is also a key sign in Europe’s astrological signature, and the two world wars certainly saw Europe tear itself apart, something that is common in Europe whenever Pisces is strong.  The previous major Pisces rift was the Protestant Reformation that split European Christians into two and resulted in numerous military conflicts including the attempted invasion of Great Britain by the Spanish Armada. Only some of the world events in the period 1910 to 1920 can be associated with Libra, and in macro-astrology it is necessary to cherry-pick historical events from the cauldron of all events.

There is no doubt that despite the First World War women were on the move in this Libra period, and many first world nations commenced the path of voting rights for women.  Women also broke new ground in their public achievements and notability – even notoriety.  China’s affinity to Libra was again witnessed with the final overthrow of monarchial government after 5,000 years.  The forerunner of the United Nations, the League of Nations, appeared as a well-meaning project that failed but is a sign of things to come over the coming centuries.  The non-violent approach to politics was appropriately instigated by Gandhi – first in his homeland of South Africa, then India – much to the consternation of the arrogant British authorities.  The maturation of jazz in this period is another acknowledgment of Libra and the coming of age of the USA – the age-empire of our times.

The First World War again demonstrates the link between major conflict and Libra not to mention that the momentum of violence unleashed upon the world by the Aries age and overflow ( 2862BC – 715 BC – 1433 AD) remains a potent negative force to be dealt with, and will probably be the main international focus in the second half of the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) most likely due to an effective international body resembling a world government of some degree or other.

Libra in Australia

December 2019 witnessed the arrival of the Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), and it is now making itself felt in Australia – and some would say with a vengeance, as Libra rules justice and women amongst other archetypes.  Historical research shows that when Libra is strong, that there is a greater than average focus upon women, for better or worse, and a push for justice.

The female focus is not always positive, as the examination of previous similar Libra periods, since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, indicates that the level of persecution against females reached new heights – especially in the early centuries of the Age of Aquarius when many governments passed laws against witches who were usually just mature intelligent women.  This mainly occurred under the dark auspices of the Capricorn sub-age and overflow (1433 – 1612 – 1791) when Satan allegorically took control or highly influenced many institutions including religions.  In the following centuries, the obstruction of women shifted from witches to preventing females from being able to vote, and a whole host of laws persecuting women such as the criminalization of abortion, lack of property rights, and so on.  Even in ‘modern’ Australia, women are prejudiced in their income level compared to men doing the same job not to mention the glass ceiling.

Of course, the environment for females has also seen exponential improvement since the arrival of the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius – the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149), more so in western nations and less so in less developed nations.  But what most astrologers do not know is that we are approaching the business end of the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149) further emphasized by the final sub-age – which is of the same zodiacal sign.  Currently the world is in the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149), and this combined with the Libra age-decan indicates the heat is being turned up for all Libra archetypes.  Furthermore, the current Libra micro-age decan is the first appearance of a Libra micro-age decan in the current Libra sub-age, and this Libra micro-age decan can be called the baptism of the Libra sub-age (but not the baptism of the massive Libra age-decan).  Baptisms get the ball rolling – or moving in a new direction!

Since February 2021, the Australian government commenced getting overwhelmed by charges of sexual assault by female government staffers, commencing with claims by Brittany Higgins that:

“she was raped by a colleague in the offices of the defence minister in 2019 just before the election and that she felt she was told a police report would affect her future employment as a staffer.”

A string of claims have subsequently come to light including against Christian Porter, a federal cabinet minister who is alleged he viciously raped a fellow student when he was 17 and she was 16. Due to the woman recently committing suicide, any alleged offense cannot easily or readily be taken before a law court due to her death.  The alleged cover up of sexual assaults has revealed the injustice applied to women who find themselves embroiled in issues of sexual assault by their ‘superiors’.  It seems that every few days, another woman comes forward with more accusations of sexual assault against them involving the Australian government.

The 2021 Australian of the year and sexual assault survivor Grace Tame recently stated:

‘we are on the precipice of a revolution’

…. and the astrology agrees with her. Her address to the (Australian) National Press Club covered a number of issues including:

“The upshot of allowing predators a voice but not survivors encourages the criminal behaviour.”

2021 Australian of the Year Grace Tame addresses the National Press Club on 3 March 2021. Photograph: Mick Tsikas/AAP

Grace was fairly scathing of the Australian (federal) government’s handling of the recent sexual assault allegations.

It appears that the new generation of younger Australian women or not ‘behaving’ and instead creating a commotion against sexual assault.  This does coincide with the current Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is the latest vertebrae to appear in the backbone of the massive Libra age-decan and overflow (1413 – 2149 – 2865).  In thousands of years’ time, the current millennium will probably be known as the Millennium of Women!

Independent of sexual assault, Libra promotes justice and female equality, and the case of Kathleen Folbigg, who has been in prison for 17 years following the death of four of her babies, again raises the issue of injustice applied to females. Leading scientific experts are now arguing that all four of her children had rare genetic conditions that could explain their deaths.  This case possibly harks back to the imprisonment of Lindy Chamberlain following the death of her baby by a dingo – this was clearly nothing else other than a modern witch persecution.

Australian sex discrimination commissioner Kate Jenkins, appointed to lead a review into parliament’s workplace culture, believes Australia is at a “turning point” on sexual harassment and assault. “I’ve never seen any moment like this,” she said.

Libra will not affect every country or region equally, as it depends upon the specific astrological signature.  In Australia’s case, it appears that Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aries are in Australia’s astrological signature, and despite Libra being opposite in nature to Aries, there is a good case to include Libra at some place on Australia’s totem pole.  This is supported by the fact that Abel Tasman virtually discovered Australia (for Europeans) in an earlier Libra period:

“The discovery of Tasmania (an island south of the Australian mainland) and New Zealand in 1642 by Abel Tasman (1603 – 1659) followed by the charting of northern and western Australia (New Holland) two years later suggests a Libra connection to Australia and New Zealand especially as these voyages occurred at the pinnacle of this Libra period.”

See: Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)

For most people outside of Australia, the above sexual assault issue is something they either are unaware of, or perhaps have heard some brief news in the media, one way or another.  This begs the question, how many other countries or regions are experiencing Libra’s lash but unknown internationally?  We don’t usually think that Libra has a hard side, but many ancient cultures oftentimes associated Venus, the ruler of Libra, with war or conflict.  It would be interesting to learn all the areas internationally where Libra is currently making its mark?  The election of Kamala Harris as the first female vice president in the USA is part of Libra’s machinations – and the BIG question is – will she become president?  The Black Lives Matter is certainly another example of Libra making its presence felt.  Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has increasingly been demonized.

Piers Morgan to leave Good Morning Britain after Meghan row

Currently, the world is in the weakest quarter of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) and the temperature should be significantly turned up around 2024 – 2027 when Libra is in its most powerful quarter.  There are many unanswered questions about what we should expect in the rest of the current Libra period – but the one thing is certain, Libra archetypes will be promoted.  One of the most interesting aspects of the zodiacal signs is they can reinvent and produce new twists on established archetypes.  We have to look for any new twists to Libra. For example, Libra is guilty of the obesity epidemic that has only really appeared in the world since the arrival of the Libra sub-age in 1970.   It is possible that the relative inaction of the majority of countries around the world in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic can be attributed to Libra – the sign of inaction!

Virtually no one alive today has experienced the current level of Libra that arrived in December 2019, as the last Libra period of similar strength occurred from December 1910 to October 1920 – a stressful period known for the First World War and Spanish Flu.  To keep up to date with my research on Libra periods since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, please see The Backbone of the Libra Age-Decan (1433 – 2149).

POSTSCRIPT

Not only does the Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) promote issues associated with females, but even the timing of this confrontation between the changing expectations of young Australian women and the Australian government can be determined by further sub-divisions of the Libra micro-age decan.  The Libra MAD is one third of the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which also contains 12 nano-ages (approx. 15 months each).  The nano-age in effect for February and March 2021 is the Capricorn nano-age (Dec 2019 – Mar 2021).

Each nano-age also has three nano-age decans, and the period October 2020 to March 2021 is within the Capricorn nano-age decan (Oct 2020 – Mar 2021) thus further promoting the influence of Capricorn – a key sign for governments.  Governments are usually downstream from society which means they are usually more conservative than the average person, and conservatism is ruled by Capricorn.

Drilling down even further, each 15 month nano-age has 12 five week pica ages, and the Capricorn pica age covers most of the months of February and March 2021. Thus Capricorn has reached its penultimate force at the same time as the sexual assault issue hit the Australian government.  Combining Capricorn with Libra provides the astrological smoking gun for this situation.

Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)

This is a ‘full size’ 30 year Libra period being the Libra MA&OF (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657) and is the second of this size in the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149). The most significant influence for this Libra period was dour old Capricorn, and its negative influence upon gay Libra is readily identifiable in many of the historical events of this period – especially the absence of notable women.  This Libra period fell under the shadow of the Capricorn sub-age overflow (1612 – 1791).

As to be expected, some major conflicts affected this Libra period and the major conflict of note is the British Civil Wars (1639 – 1653) and therefore closely shadowing the Libra MA&OF (1627 – 1657).  The wars included rebellions, civil wars and invasions with the most important being the English Civil War which ended when the English parliamentarian army won followed by the execution of the king, the abolition of the monarchy, and the founding of the Commonwealth of England which lasted until 1660 – only a few years past the end of this Libra period. [1] No English king had ever been previously executed.  The English Civil War, similar to the American Civil War, was a major event in the history of the UK.  Family was against family, and in all regions of Great Britain, the population was fairly evenly split in their loyalties to the crown or parliament.

Some historians claim that this civil war was the result of the arrival of the Renaissance into England which changed the balance of power, but governments tend to lag behind such changes at their peril.  The Puritans played a decisive role, and the Puritans were energized Protestants, and Protestants do represent the arrival of the Age of Aquarius into Europe as many of Protestant features invoke Aquarius such as anti the pope (anti the magnificent Leo leader), and the fact that the Protestant cults usually had strong democratic features as opposed to the hierarchical structure of the Roman Catholic Church modelled after the government of Ancient Rome.

Oliver Cromwell (1599 – 1658) was the head of state (Lord Protector) under the new commonwealth.  However his approach quickly fell out of favor after his death and his corpse was subsequently dug up, hung in chains, and beheaded. Cromwell is one of the most controversial figures in British and Irish history, considered a regicidal dictator by some, and a military dictator by Winston Churchill, a class revolutionary by Leon Trotsky, and a hero of liberty by John Milton.  Cromwell was a Puritan who used his political power to actively promote the suppression of vice and encouraged virtue.[2]  Cromwell’s main generational sign was Aquarius, and his more fine-tuned generation was an Aquarius-Capricorn generation with Aquarius providing the revolutionary spirit and Capricorn the conservative Puritanism.

People today just do not understand the excitement unleashed by the Protestant revolution and arrival of the Age of Science early in the Age of Aquarius.  These excited people were able to seize the government of England for a while, and stamp out the monarchy like it was a cigarette which provided the first Aquarius revolution in the new age.  However, Aquarius is always detrimental to the UK as the UK has Leo high in its astrological signature.  It did not take long for the monarchy to return and Aquarius’ revolutionary zeal headed to North America!

A number of developments occurred due to the English Civil War with close ties to Libra.  In 1641 English law made witchcraft a capital crime (Capricorn and Libra) and a few years later in 1644 the first witch-hunter made his career in the eastern counties of England. In 1642 the English Parliament ordered the closure of all theatres in London, effectively ending the era of English Renaissance theatre established in the previous Libra period and followed by the banning of all stage plays in theatres anywhere in the country due to the stern approach to life adopted by the Puritans.  The Taliban, ISIS and ISIL were merely following in the footsteps of European fascism from earlier centuries.

Libra the balance may have archetypally influenced the appearance of the Levellers, a political movement during the English Civil War (1642–1651) with (Libra) justice strongly represented in its manifesto – popular sovereignty, extended suffrage, equality before the law and religious tolerance. The hallmark of Leveller philosophy was its emphasis on equal natural rights.  They were not the only ones going down this path.

The Society of Friends, commonly known as Quakers was formed in 1648 from ‘divine insight’ and as a Protestant Christian cult, its relevance to this Libra period is its opposition to (Aries) war and elevation of women.  In the 1650s, individual Quaker women prophesied and preached publicly, developed charismatic personae and spread the word. This practice was bolstered by the movement’s firm concept of spiritual equality for men and women. Thus the Quakers were unwittingly in service to Libra (and the spirit of Aquarius).  Interestingly, early Quakers disliked paganism so they refused to use the usual names of the days of the week, since they were derived from the names of pagan deities (planetary gods) and they refused to celebrate Christmas because they believed it was based on pagan festivities – which is true as the early Christian church borrowed Saturnalia from the Romans and rebadged it as Christmas (the general consensus of historians is that Jesus was not born in December).[3]  Only a few years past this Libra period in 1662 Quakers were persecuted for a time in the UK and American persecution commenced in 1656, only a year before the end of this Libra period, and four Quakers were actually hanged in 1660 in Boston.[4]

Libra’s connection to jurisprudence is again clearly demonstrated with the publication of a series of legal treatises The Institutes of the Lawes of England which were written and published between 1628 and 1644. Widely recognized as a foundational document for English common law, they have been cited in over 70 cases decided by the Supreme Court of the United States, including several landmark cases including Roe v. Wade (1973), where The Institutes were cited as evidence that under old English common law, an abortion performed before quickening was not an indictable offence. An earlier case in 1895 referred to The Institutes for their definition of monopolies.[5]

The publication in 1644 of Areopagitica; A speech of Mr. John Milton for the Liberty of Unlicenc’d Printing, to the Parlament of England by the English poet John Milton who strongly opposed censorship is amongst history’s most influential and impassioned philosophical defenses of the principle of a right to freedom of speech and expression. Many of its expressed principles have formed the basis for modern justifications.  Milton has been acclaimed as the “greatest English author”, and he is regarded “as one of the preeminent writers in the English language”. John Milton also promoted the legitimacy of divorce publishing The Doctrine and Discipline of Divorce in 1643 which was considered heretical at the time.  Libra’s quest for justice is again displayed.

Thomas Hobbes (1588 – 1679) was an English philosopher who is considered to be one of the founders of modern political philosophy. He is best known for his 1651 book Leviathan, in which he expounds an influential formulation of social contract theory.  Social contract definitely has a Libran tinge and the main argument is that individuals have consented, one way or another, to surrender some of their freedoms and submit to the authority (of the ruler, or to the decision of a majority) in exchange for protection of their remaining rights or maintenance of the social order. Hobbes was an early exponent of this balanced argument.[6]

Colonial America contributed to Libra even at this extremely early stage. In 1628 Puritans settled Salem, which later became part of Massachusetts Bay Colony.  In 1629 around 350 English Puritans sailed from England to Salem, to settle in the Massachusetts Bay Colony which was granted a Royal Charter in the following year and it became a self-governing entity.  The following year brought another 700 passengers including Anne Bradstreet, America’s first poet of significance and who in 1646, became a founding mother of Andover Parish (modern-day North Andover), Massachusetts.

1630 saw the settling of Boston and a group of emigrants arrived at Southampton Hundred, on the James River in Virginia.  The first governor was appointed to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1631 with the first English settlement in Maryland and in the following year Charles I of England issued a charter for the colony of Maryland.  Also in 1631, the Dutch West India Company started a settlement of the Delaware River.   In 1634 a group from the Plymouth Colony settled in Windsor, Connecticut, making it the first settlement in the state.  In 1635 Roger Williams (theologian) founded Rhode Island. And such was the rush to the colonies, in 1637 King Charles I of England issued a proclamation, attempting to stem emigration to the North American colonies.

In 1637 Elizabeth Poole became the first woman to found a town in the Americas – Taunton, Massachusetts.  In the following year, Anne Hutchinson was banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for heresy, and moved to Rhode Island.  In 1643 the New England Confederation (also known as the United Colonies of New England) was formed as a military alliance comprising the colonies of Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth, Saybrook (Connecticut), and New Haven. Its primary purpose was to unite the Puritan colonies in support of the church, and for defense against the American Indians and the Dutch colony of New Netherland. It was the first milestone on the long road to colonial unity.  Interestingly, even at this early stage, the nascent American psyche was on display as John Quincy Adams remarked two centuries later:

“Its history, like that of other confederacies, presents a record of incessant discord – of encroachments by the most powerful party upon the weaker members, and of disregard, by all the separate members, of the conclusions adopted by the whole body. Still the main purpose of the union was accomplished.”[7]

The Pisces American psyche is aptly demonstrated in the above statement.

In 1652, Rhode Island passed the first law in North America making slavery illegal.[8]  In 1655 John Casor, became the first legally recognized slave, as a result of a civil case.  He was the first person of African descent in the Thirteen Colonies to be declared as a slave for life.  His master was perversely a freed African-American and the Virginian court sustained the right of free blacks to own slaves.  Laws racializing slavery hardened during Casor’s lifetime and after this Libra period in 1662, the Virginia Colony made a ruling that children of enslaved mothers would be born into slavery, regardless of their father’s race or status. This was in contradiction to English common law for English subjects, which based a child’s status on that of their father.[9] However, this does shift the emphasis to Libra even if it is perverse!

One of the earliest voices for modern democratic ideals in the USA was pioneered by Roger Williams (1603 – 1683), the founder of what would become the Colony of Rhode Island.  Though he was a Puritan minister, he was also a staunch advocate for religious freedom, separation of church and state, and fair dealings with Native Americans, and he was one of the first abolitionists as he organized the first attempt to prohibit slavery in any of England’s North American colonies. His views were far too liberal for the conservative Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay authorities and in 1635, he was convicted of sedition and heresy. They declared that he was spreading “diverse, new, and dangerous opinions”.  He was considered an important historical figure of religious liberty at the time of American independence, and he was a key influence on the thinking of the Founding Fathers.[10]  Even at this early formative time, with Roger Williams we see the divergence of American culture between modern and medieval in line with Pisces, represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions.  Pisces is the number one sign for the USA and this Pisces-divergent culture remains in place and recently demonstrated by the presidency of Donald Trump.

The discovery of Tasmania (an island south of the Australian mainland) and New Zealand in 1642 by Abel Tasman (1603 – 1659) followed by the charting of northern and western Australia (New Holland) two years later suggests a Libra connection to Australia and New Zealand especially as these voyages occurred at the pinnacle of this Libra period.

China was also a major focus within this Libra period. In 1627 the Manchus took advantage of Korea’s war-weakened state due to the unsuccessful Japanese invasion in the previous Libra period and invaded in 1627 and 1637, and this was even before the Manchus had taken over China.  In 1637 a Chinese encyclopedist published Exploitation of the Works of Nature which is considered one of the most valuable encyclopedias of classical China.  In 1641 a massive epidemic struck in northern and central China with some local areas and towns having 90% of the local populace wiped out, which may have contributed to the fall of the Ming Dynasty just three years later. In 1644 the invading Qing army captured Beijing marking the beginning of Manchu rule over China proper.  The Ming dynasty had ruled over China from 1368 to 1644 while the Qing dynasty survived until 1912 (also in a Libra period).  This major and highly significant political development in China supports a close connection between Libra and China.  However, the 1368 commencement of the Qing dynasty occurred in a Cancer sub-age decan (1314 – 1373) and Cancer appears to be the most powerful sign associated with China.

On the artistic level, in 1642, Rembrandt finished his painting, The Night Watch – the most substantial of the important group portrait commissions which he received in this period.  In the decade following the Night Watch, Rembrandt’s paintings gave way to the use of frontal lighting and larger and more saturated areas of color. At the same time, there was a marked decrease in painted works in favor of etchings and drawings of landscapes. In these graphic works natural drama eventually made way for quiet Dutch rural scenes.  Libra’s rulership of parks and gardens is coming into play!

Rubens’s (1557 – 1640) later period coincided with the first part of this Libra period.  He is considered the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition. Between 1627 and 1630, Rubens’s diplomatic career was particularly active, and he moved between the courts of Spain and England in an attempt to bring (Libra) peace between the Spanish Netherlands and the United Provinces. Rubens was knighted by Charles I of England in 1630. In 1628 He began a renewed study of Titian’s paintings, copying numerous works.  By 1629 he completed one of his most important works – the Allegory of Peace and War which illustrates the artist’s lively concern for peace. His international reputation with collectors and nobility abroad continued to grow during this decade, and one prominent example was The Assumption of the Virgin Mary (1625–6) for the Cathedral of Antwerp. In 1630, four years after the death of his first wife, 53-year-old Rubens married his deceased wife’s 16-year-old niece, who inspired the voluptuous figures in many of his paintings from the 1630s, including The Feast of Venus, The Three Graces and The Judgement of Paris with his wife the model for various depictions of Venus including sculptures.[11]

Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599 – 1641) was a Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter in England after success in his homeland and Italy.  He is best known for his portraits of the aristocracy, most notably Charles I (before he was beheaded), and his family and associates. Van Dyck became the dominant influence on English portrait-painting for the next 150 years.  King Charles I was the keenest collector of art among the Stuart kings, and saw painting as a way of promoting his elevated view of the monarchy (this was the time of Capricorn). In 1628, just inside this Libra period, he purchased the fabulous collection that the Duke of Mantua was forced to sell.  Van Dyck remained in contact with the English court and helped King Charles’s search for paintings.  In England he developed a version of his style which combined a relaxed elegance and ease with an understated authority in his subjects which was to dominate English portrait-painting to the end of the 18th century. Many of these portraits have a lush (Libran) landscape background.[12]

Claudio Monteverdi (1567 – 1643) was an Italian musician and priest who composed both secular and sacred music, and was a pioneer in the development of opera – he is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and Baroque periods of music history.  This Libra period mainly coincided with Monteverdi’s late flowering period (1637 – 1643) commencing with the opening of the first public opera house in Europe at San Cassiano in 1637, which stimulated the city’s musical life and coincided with a new burst of the composer’s activity.  By 1656, the first opera house opened in London. Monteverdi’s contribution to opera at this period is notable and is credited for the rebirth of theatrical music and that “he will be sighed for in later ages, for his compositions will surely outlive the ravages of time.”[13] Monteverdi’s drive may have come from the fact he was born of an Aries-Aries or Aries-Pisces generation.

Molière (a stage name) (1621/2 – 1673), was a French playwright, actor and poet, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers in the French language and world literature. He turned to acting in 1643 only one year past the peak of this Libra period.  His extant works include comedies, farces, tragicomedies, comédie-ballets, and more. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed at the Comédie-Française more often than those of any other playwright today. His influence is such that the French language is often referred to as the “language of Molière”. Despite his own preference for tragedy, Molière became famous for his farces. He began to write full, five-act comedies in verse in 1654 [14] towards the end of this Libra period which he outlived.  His attraction to farce may be explained by the fact he was born in a Scorpio-Scorpio generation and his troupe did go bankrupt at one stage.

Though highly notable females seem absent in this period, an abstract focus did prevail.  In 1629 a Chinese emperor of the Ming dynasty reiterated the state prohibition against female infanticide.  However, as perhaps an example of oriental yin yang, the same year actresses were banned from the stage in Japan.

In 1631, the death in childbirth of the Mughal emperor’s wife caused the emperor to commission the Taj Mahal at Agra, as a mausoleum for her. Constructed from 1632 to 1653 – it also became the emperor’s tomb (at a cost of about $US956 million in today’s money).  The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being “the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage” and it was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World (2000–2007) initiative.[15]  It could be dedicated to Libra both as a work of art and beauty plus an expression of love in marriage!

One of the 7 wonders of world and one of the major tourist attraction of India. The elevation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Queen of Genoa in 1637 is again in the Libra camp. And finally, Libra’s ruling planet Venus gets some attention in 1639 when the English astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks made the first successful prediction and observation of a transit of Venus.

Cafes breed (Libra) socializing, and the appearance of cafes in Europe coincided with this Libra period with the first café in Europe opened in Venice in 1640.  Coffee drinking became popular in Paris by 1643 and England saw its first coffeehouse open in 1651 and such were their popularity, by 1675, there were more than 3,000 coffeehouses in England.

Finally, Libra’s connection to all things beautiful naturally must include flowers, and so it is fitting that in 1637 saw the collapse of Tulip mania in the Dutch Republic. At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled crafts worker. Another example suggests that one tulip bulb was bartered for 12 acres (5 hectares) of land.  It is believed to have been the first recorded speculative bubble and bust in history but it did not create an economic crisis for the Dutch Republic, which at the time was the world’s leading economic and financial power.[16]

Finally, the 1656 invention of the pendulum clock by Christiaan Huygens is interesting because 1656 is heavily influenced by the Capricorn sub-age overflow, Capricorn sub-age decan overflow as well as the Capricorn quasi sub-age – in other words, Capricorn the sign of time and clocks, was incredibly strong when the pendulum clock was invented.  However, the swing motion of the pendulum invokes Libra!  Pendulum clocks were the most precise timekeeper, accounting for its widespread use until the 1930s and 40s when they were overshadowed by less-expensive, synchronous, electric clocks[17] in the Capricorn micro-age and overflow (1925 – 1940 – 1955).  In my youth I can remember when I stayed at my grandparents’ house, I used to go to sleep every night listening to the half hour and hour chimes of their mantelpiece pendulum clock which they wound up every day.

The most notable aspect of this Libra MA&OF (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657) is the lack of notable women.  There would have been some notable women that fail to register with us today, but there is a plausible astrological reason why highly placed notable women are largely absent in this larger than average Libra period.  The following list displays the Libra periods since the start of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 that have been investigated to date in this Libra series:

Pisces-Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612)

  • Libra micro-age and overflow (March 1463 – March 1478 – March 1493)
  • Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – November 1537)
  • Libra micro-age decan and overflow (August 1582 – July 1592)

Capricorn-Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791)

  • Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)

With the first three Libra periods located in Pisces-Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612), Pisces overshadows Capricorn.  The current Libra period however is located in the Capricorn- Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) where Capricorn is the major player.  The current Libra period is the first in the Capricorn-Sagittarius sub-age overflow and is buffeted by the strongest Capricorn influence of all the Libra periods investigated to date.  Capricorn is naturally anti-feminine due to Cancer being the opposite sign to Capricorn – and Cancer shares with Libra a strong association to females.  Furthermore, the first sub-age decan in the Capricorn- Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) is the Leo sub-age decan (1612 – 1672) and Leo is male-orientated. Naturally, the darkness of Capricorn did not limit the accusation of witchcraft against women, if anything, it magnified this horror.

The major conflict of note was the English Civil War resulting in the execution of the king and the establishment of a commonwealth in England that also banned anything frivolous or fun, as Capricorn promotes a stern authoritarian lifestyle.  This is why all theatres were closed in London in 1642.  Nevertheless Libra inspires justice, and this can be seen with the Levellers promoting modern liberal ideals – well ahead of their time.  The Quakers also promoted equality of the sexes.  The publication of The Institutes of the Lawes of England clarified many aspects of English common law that spread to the USA and other countries.  Other legal perspectives from John Milton and Thomas Hobbes pushed the boundaries of English medieval laws towards modernity.

This Libra period saw great activity in North America, especially New England or what would become the hub of the northern states in the USA and suggests that in Pisces USA, one of the fish has strong Libran qualities of justice and equality.  These new settlements include: Salem, Boston, Maryland, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island.  The creation of the United Colonies of New England was a forerunner for the creation of the revolution USA.  The seeds of the American Civil War were put in place in this Libra period when Rhode Island passed the first law in North America making slavery illegal.

The first extensive European exploration of Australia and New Zealand in this period also suggests that inclusion of Libra into the astrological signatures for these countries (and Canada whose name was coined in the previous Libra period) provided future Libra periods confirm this assessment.

China had an exceptional development with the fall the Ming dynasty replaced by the Manchu dynasty in 1644.  The publication of the Exploitation of the Works of Nature in 1637 provides an invaluable insight into the Chinese world of this period. However, before the Ming collapsed they did reiterate the state prohibition against female infanticide

Probably the most notable development in this period was on the artistic side.  This Libra period captured key periods in the life of extremely famous artists and musicians such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Van Dyck, Monteverdi, and Molière with Rubens the most influential artist of the Flemish Baroque tradition and Van Dyck dictating portraiture for the next 150 years. Monteverdi virtually created opera and Molière as one of the greatest writers in the French language and world literature.

Appropriately one of the most famous marriages in history occurred in this Libra period with the death in India of the Mughal emperor’s wife and his construction of one of the most beautiful buildings in the world – the Taj Mahal.  As a temple (ceremonial structure), ruled by Capricorn, it is better known than his wife to whom the temple is dedicated. Though this period is bereft of famous females, the elevation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Queen of Genoa in 1637 does make an attempt.  Venus (the ruler of Libra) gets a focus when the English astronomer Jeremiah Horrocks made the first successful prediction and observation of a transit of Venus

Coffee promotes (Libra) social interaction and coffee made its move in this Libra period with the first European café in 1640. Libra’s association with flowers does see its manifestation with the boom of the tulip market in the Dutch Republic, followed by its bust and setting the precedent for economic cycles over the following centuries including the 21st century.  Finally the invention in 1656 of the pendulum clock aligned with Capricorn, the ruler of time, is a fitting end to this review.

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (August 1582 – July 1592)

This Libra MAD&OF sits within the Aquarius micro-age (Aug 1582 – Jul 1597) and therefore mimics the Libra MAD&OF (December 1910 – October 1920) associated with the First World War (1914/17 – 18) and Spanish flu.  The next major level up to greatly influence this period was the Taurus-Capricorn sub-age decan (1552 – 1612).  Taurus is beneficial to England (see The UK Astrological Signature) which was certainly on display in this Libra period.

Again, major conflicts occur under Libra’s watch commencing with the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604) which included the famous Spanish Armada (1588) with 130 ships and 30,000 men when Catholic Spain planned to invade Protestant England and dispose Queen Elizabeth 1 but failed miserably at the hands of what constituted the British navy and adverse weather.  The English countered with two armadas against Spain which both failed, and Spain sent a second armada against England which also failed due to bad weather.  This is where Sir Francis Drake became famous.  At this time Spain was the world’s superpower.  The victory was acclaimed by the English as their greatest since Agincourt, and the memory of the victory over the Armada was evoked during the Napoleonic Wars in a later Libra period when again England found itself threatened by another invasion. From the standpoint of Libra, Queen Elizabeth’s legend persisted and grew long after her death due to the successful repulsion of the Spanish Armadas.[1] Queen Elizabeth is one of the most notable females that stood near the beginning of the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149).

George Gower’s Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I (1588?) at Woburn Abbey. The portrait was made to commemorate the defeat of the Spanish Armada (depicted in the background).

This Libra period sits within the Elizabethan era (1558 – 1603) and is taken as England’s golden age attributed a renaissance that inspired national pride through classical ideals, international expansion, and naval triumph over Spain[2] with the naval triumph over Spain exclusively associated with this Libra period.  This golden age commenced in the Taurus sub-age decan (1537 – 1612) and Taurus figures strongly in the English astrological signature.[3]

Again, war was highly prevalent as is the case for the last 5,000 years and only some major ones will be mentioned.  The War of the Three Henrys (1587-89) was one of a series of French civil wars under the umbrella of the French Wars of Religion (1562 – 98) The war was instigated by Spain to keep France from interfering with the Spanish army in the Netherlands and the Spanish invasion of England – there were so many wars that they had wars within wars!

The Eighty Years’ War commencing in 1568 (before this Libra period) was basically a Protestant revolt of what are today the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg against the superpower of Catholic Spain but by 1587 the newly formed Dutch Republic entered a period of more than two centuries of relative political stability and strongly increased its trade and wealth from this time onward, with Amsterdam replacing Antwerp as the main port of north-west Europe.  The republic was more tolerant of different religions and ideas than its contemporary states were, allowing freedom of thought to its residents. Artists flourished under this regime, including painters such as Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer leading to the Dutch Golden Age lasting until 1672.[4]  Libra may have placed its stamp on the Dutch Golden Age but the influence of both the Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612) and Taurus sub-age decan overflow (1552 – 1612) suggests that these signs appear in the Dutch astrological signature?

In the Far East the first Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 was really the beginning of a proxy war between Japan and China with Korea the stepping stone from Japan to China. The conflict ended in 1598 after Japan’s second unsuccessful invasion followed by the withdrawal of the Japanese forces from the Korean Peninsula after a military stalemate (appropriate for Libra).  This war resulted in an imbalance of power within Japan with the Toyotomi clan’s power significantly weakened due to the exhaustion of its  armed forces for the failed Korean conflict and the opposing Tokugawa clan, who had abstained from the war, and with their armed forces in tack, were able to eventually triumphed (post this Libra period) against the Toyotomi clan. Libra seems to prefer two major opposing forces. Libra is considered a key sign for the whole of the Far East including China.

Highly notable females again mark this Libra period and a good example is the classic feud between Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots ending with the beheading of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1587 at the hands of her cousin Queen Elizabeth after Mary was implicated in a plot to murder Elizabeth.

With the growing strength of Capricorn the accusations of witchcraft against women grew to a crescendo in this period. From 1581 to 1593 the Witch Trials of Trier in Germany were perhaps the biggest witch trials in European history. They formed one of the four largest witch trials in Germany. The persecutions started around Trier in 1581 and reached the city itself in 1587, where it was to lead to the death of about 368 people, and it may have been the biggest mass execution in Europe in peace time.[5]

Not to be outdone by the Germans, in 1590, Agnes Sampson was questioned by King James VI of Scotland, and confessed to practicing witchcraft.  This was apparently part of the North Berwick witch trials of a number of people from East Lothian, Scotland which ran for two years and implicated over seventy people. The “witches” allegedly held their covens on the Auld Kirk Green, part of the modern-day North Berwick Harbour area. The confessions were extracted by torture.[6]

Prosecutions for the crime of witchcraft reached a highpoint commencing 1580 (in this Libra period) to 1630 during the Counter-Reformation and the European wars of religion when an estimated 50,000 people were burned at the stake, of which roughly 80% were women, and most often over the age of 40.  This 50 year period correlates to the peak strength of Capricorn associated with the end of the Capricorn sub-age in (1433 -1612) when Capricorn was peaking.  Stern autocratic male Capricorn historically orientated towards the subjugation of women – especially older intelligent women with knowledge and wisdom.

However, the Aquarian tide of rationalism started to gain traction with the publication in 1584 of The Discoverie of Witchcraft by Reginald Scot, which undermined the common belief that witches existed.  Scot expressed the view that “it is neither a witch, nor devil, but glorious God that maketh the thunder…God maketh the blustering tempests and whirlwinds…”.[7]

North America continued to be a focus under Libra and in 1583, Newfoundland was formally claimed as a colony of England but not successfully settled at this time.  Also very interesting in relation to the future USA, in 1584 Walter Raleigh sent an expedition to explore the Outer Banks of Virginia (now North Carolina), with a view to establishing an English colony, and they located Roanoke Island.[8]  In the following year, the first group of colonists was sent by Sir Walter Raleigh but only lasted until June 1586, but was followed by a second attempt in 1587.[9] The second attempt was futile, and by the time the British returned in 1590, the colonialists had disappeared and it became known as the Lost Colony.

Interestingly, Sir Walter Raleigh (1552/4 – 1618) was born in a Taurus-Taurus generation, and this may explain why Raleigh strongest focus in his life was in searching for El Dorado (City of Gold) and he made two expeditions to the Americas in search of this gold – and ultimately was executed for his over zealousness by attacking a Spanish outpost in his quest.[10]

Notable theatrical developments took place in this Libra period commencing in 1583 when the Queen Elizabeth’s Men troupe of actors was founded in England and became the dominant acting company for the rest of the 1580s. Queen Elizabeth’s Men was the first large company of actors in English Renaissance theatre, twice the size of its predecessors. The size of the new company enabled it to act a new kind of historical play, built on a larger scale than ever before including Shakespeare’s histories. These new plays were equivalent to “Hollywood spectaculars” of their era.[11]  In 1587 the Rose (theatre) was founded in London beginning a trend for theatres to be situated at arm’s length from the authorities in an area outside the jurisdiction of the City of London where bear/bull-baitings, gaming dens and brothels were surreptitiously operating.  It was the first purpose-built playhouse to ever stage a production of any of Shakespeare’s plays.  Christopher Marlowe became the theatre’s main playwright.  While the theatre thrived, at the very end of this Libra period, an outbreak of the Plague thwarted all theatres[12] (with no Libra available to support them).

Shakespeare, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist.  Somewhere in this Libra period (probably the mid-1580s) Shakespeare was able to have his plays performed and by 1592, he was sufficiently known in London to be attacked by other playwrights such as Robert Greene in his Groats-Worth of Wit:

“… there is an upstart Crow, beautified with our feathers, that with his Tiger’s heart wrapped in a Player’s hide, supposes he is as well able to bombast out a blank verse as the best of you: and being an absolute Johannes factotum, is in his own conceit the only Shake-scene in a country.”

Shakespeare was accused of reaching above his ‘lowly’ rank in trying to match such university-educated writers as Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Nashe, and Greene himself (the so-called “University Wits”).[13]  The main sign that drove Shakespeare was from Pisces, and the rise of Shakespeare in this Libra period coincided with the Pisces sting-in-the-tail of the Pisces sub-age and overflow (1254 – 1433 – 1612) with the Pisces sting-in-the-tail the Pisces micro-age and overflow (1567 – 1582 – 1597) with this period arguably representing the peak of Pisces in the 26,000 years cycle of the astrological ages. Shakespeare was born in an Aries-Aries generation (second half of the Aries micro-age (1552 – 1567) indicating that he came from a generation with drive!

Christopher Marlowe was of the same Aries-Aries generation and was the leading Elizabethan playwright and strongly influenced Shakespeare who succeeded him following Marlowe’s untimely death at the age of 29 in 1593.

On the artistic front, El Greco (1541 – 1614) was a Greek painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance and he is regarded as a precursor of both Expressionism and Cubism and his works were considered as “strange”, “queer”, “original”, “eccentric” and “odd. However, much of his works were undertaken within the eccentric Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1582 – 1597 – 1612).  In 1586 he obtained the commission for The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, now his best-known work. Painters from the beginning of the 20th century rediscovered El Greco – his expressiveness and colors influenced Eugène Delacroix, Édouard Manet and Paul Cézanne[14] and one commentator stated that “Cézanne and El Greco are spiritual brothers despite the centuries which separate them”.[15]  It should be noted that Cubism appeared as an avant-garde artistic movement during the 1910s[16] associated with the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920).

The famous Italian painter Caravaggio (1571 – 1610) had a formative influence on Baroque painting and influenced the later works of Peter Paul Rubens, Jusepe de Ribera, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and Rembrandt.  His style fell out of favor until the 20th century but he was labeled “What begins in the work of Caravaggio is, quite simply, modern painting.”[17]  Caravaggio’s apprenticeship occurred in this Libra period and in the last year he left Milan and went to Rome as a destitute hack-work artist.  One of his earliest works in 1589 was Caravaggio’s Young Sick Bacchus, supposedly a self-portrait done during convalescence from a serious illness (with Capricorn overtones).  Caravaggio’s innovation was a radical naturalism that contrasted light and dark with little intermediate value.[18]  This “darkness” can be attributed to the strength of Capricorn with the Capricorn sub-age approaching its peak strength in 1612.

Finally, on the sweet side of Libra, the first known commercial importation of chocolate to Europe in 1585, from Mexico to Spain, but the Spanish adopted the addition of (Libra) sugar to sweeten chocolate, whereas the indigenous American had only mixed chocolate with spices – but it required an acquired taste.  The new Spanish sugar variety took off with a vengeance, and for some time, chocolate drinks were far more popular in Spain than coffee.[19] It was quickly followed by the publication of Chocolate: or, An Indian Drinke in 1631.

Again, we see with Libra some major conflicts – the Spanish Armada where England was nearly invaded and pirates like Sir Francis Drake became a national hero.  The conflict between the Dutch and Spain was resolved with creation of the Dutch Republic leading to more than two centuries of relative political stability called the Dutch Golden Age.  China was under threat from Japan with Japan invading Korea for the very first time, but failed to move on to the conquest of China. In North America, Newfoundland was formally claimed as a colony of England and some unsuccessful attempts were made to colonize Roanoke Island (North Carolina).  At a minimum, this is the beginning of the Libra connection to the USA.

The power play between two highly notable women – Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots led to the execution of Mary while the other major female focus of the times was arguably the biggest mass execution of witches in Europe. By 1630 an estimated about 40,000 women had been burnt at the stake.  But the rationality of Aquarius did show signs of life with the argument against the existence of witchcraft by the publication of The Discoverie of Witchcraft.

Libra obviously promoted the theatre with the creation of Queen Elizabeth’s Men troupe of actors and the construction of the Rose theatre in a destitute part of London and by the end of this Libra period, Shakespeare was in full swing.  The other famous playwright of the times died only one year past the end of this Libra period making the Libra period the full extent of Marlowe’s theatrical output.  The father of modern painting also appeared with El Greco and Caravaggio was mainly in his apprentice period but commence producing artwork before this Libra period ended.  Sugar and chocolate naturally are attracted to Libra with its first commercial importation to Europe.

Libra-associated events will occur at any time in history, and for example, in every 15 years micro-age, there is a 29 to 30 month Libra nano-age and overflow.  However, again with this Libra MAD&OF (1582 – 1592), highly notable and remarkable historical events that can be associated with a Libra archetype indicate a stronger presence of Libra than is normal.  The brightness of Libra was not quenched by the dark side of the Capricorn sub-age and overflow (1433 – 1612 – 1791).

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – December 1532 – November 1537)

This Libra MAD&OF sits within the Gemini micro-age (Dec 1522 – Nov 1537) and therefore mimics to a certain extent the current Libra MAD&OF (Dec 2019 – Nov 2029) within the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029). However, this early experience of the Libra micro-age decan in the Age of Aquarius continues to be heavily influenced by Pisces, but this period is more influenced by Capricorn due to the Capricorn quasi sub-age (1522 – 1701).[1]  The Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552) also needs to be taken into account. There was no evading the many wars and conflict that afflicted the world in the 16th century, as with most centuries over the last 5,000 years, but Libra aligned conflict is marked by opposing powers of similar magnitude rather than a singular marauding army plundering wherever it can such as Genghis Khan (c.1158 – 1227) under the auspices of the Aries sub-age (1075 – 1254).

This major polarization which is strongly associated with Libra was clearly evident in this period which was so instrumental in creating the major schism between England and the Roman Catholic Church over another Libran archetype – marriage.  In this case, King Henry VIII of England wanted to divorce his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, as she was unable to provide a male heir and future king of England.  In 1529 under pressure from the king the English Reformation Parliament passed the necessary legislation ‘divorcing’ England from Rome and established the Church of England in its place.  In 1533 King Henry VIII’s marriage with Catherine of Aragon was declared annulled by an English Archbishop but this was not authorized by the pope, nor recognized by Catherine.  Later in the same year, Anne Boleyn married Henry VIII and was crowned as queen consort of England, and Henry VIII was subsequently excommunicated by the pope.  Anne Boleyn gave birth to Princess Elizabeth, the future Elizabeth I of England.

1536 was an extremely busy year for King Henry VIII commencing with his first queen, Catherine of Aragon, dying while banished. A few months later, Anne Boleyn, was arrested on the trumped up grounds of incest, adultery and treason and the English church fell in line and nullified Henry and Anne’s marriage. This was followed by the execution of five men accused of adultery with Anne Boleyn, including her own brother and Anne was executed shortly afterwards while Henry VIII married Jane Seymour.

This major rift between England and the Roman Catholic Church was reinforced in 1529 when a group of German rulers and independent cities protested against the reinstatement of the Edict of Worms, which had declared Martin Luther a wanted heretic, and thus beginning the Protestant movement in earnest.  This is where the Taurus sub-age decan (1493 – 1552) makes its influence felt as the top sign of Christianity is Scorpio – Taurus’ opposite side and therefore Scorpio Christianity is in ‘detriment’ under Taurus.

Another major treaty was enacted between two European early seafaring nations, Spain and Portugal, when in 1529 the Treaty of Zaragoza divided the Far East between the Spanish and Portuguese empires.  Under the treaty, Portugal gained control of all of Asia and its neighboring islands that had been discovered at the time, leaving Spain with most of the Pacific Ocean. The world was divided into two under the control of two superpowers to pillage as they wanted.  Also in 1529 the failed siege of Vienna, Austria by Ottoman (Turkish) forces marked the beginning of 150 years of bitter military tension between the Habsburgs and Ottomans, punctuated by reciprocal attacks, and culminating in a second siege of Vienna in 1683.  Another major polarity established under Libra’s watch.

Libra aligned China was having a hard time, and in 1528 to 1530 in Henan province, an enormous drought coupled with a gigantic swarm of locusts deprived the region of harvests for the next two years, killing off half the people in some communities, due to starvation and cannibalism.

The Americas saw a lot of interest under this Libra period and in 1532 the Portuguese began colonizing Brazil, which is the largest country in both South America and Latin America, and in 1532, sugarcane was first cultivated by the settlers (the scourge of sugar is ruled by Libra). Buenos Aires (Argentina) was first founded by the Spanish in 1536 and an expedition did set off to discover a route to Peru.  The first two of three voyages by Jacques Cartier (1491 – 1587) was the first European to map the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the shores of the Saint Lawrence River, which he named “The Country of Canadas” after the Iroquois names for the two big nearby settlements.

References to important females has already been made such as Catherine of Aragon and the birth of Elizabeth 1, and in 1529 the polymath Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa published Declamation on the Nobility and Preeminence of the Female Sex, a book that pronounced the theological and moral superiority of women with Libra smiling in the wings.[2]  Our Lady of Guadalupe, (also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe) is associated with a series of five Marian apparitions in 1531, and a venerated image on a cloak enshrined within the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Supposedly, the Virgin Mary appeared four times in Mexico City to Juan Diego and once more to his uncle. The basilica is the most-visited Catholic shrine in the world, and the world’s third most-visited sacred site – dedicated to a female apparition.  In 1531 on the other side of the ledger, a witch-hunt was conducted in the town of Schiltach, Germany following the burning of the town – the convicted witch was executed.

The 1529 Treaty of Cambrai, also known as the Ladies’ Peace, is appropriate for mention as it was orchestrated by the mother of Francis I Louise of Savoy and the aunt of the emperor Margaret of Austria. They represented both monarchs in negotiations, helping them not to lose face in one of the numerous conflicts of the times.  Interestingly, women were also allowed to appear on Italian stages for the first time in this same year.[3]

From 1533 to 34, the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent made Roxelana, his Ruthenian (Ukrainian) harem girl and former slave his legal wife and she became one of the most powerful and influential women in Ottoman (Turkish) history. She eventually achieved power, influencing the politics of the Ottoman Empire and through her husband, she played an active role in affairs of the state.  She has inspired paintings, musical works (including Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 63), an opera, a ballet, plays, and several novels.  She commenced the era known as the Sultanate of Women – a period of extraordinary political influence exerted by wives and mothers of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire lasting until 1656. At this time, the influence of Capricorn from the Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612) was extremely strong, and the Islamic Ottomans were naturally aligned to Cancer – with Cancer and Capricorn opposite signs.  The 7th house invokes partners and this perhaps explains why the Ottomans, when at the top of their game, deferred to their wives and gave them power under Capricorn.  The waning of female influence in 1656 is aligned to the growth in strength of the (male) Leo sub-age decan (1612 – 1672).

Vasari wrote that Titian once painted “portrait of Roxelana”.This painting was attributed as probable copy of that portrait executed in Titian’s workshop

Titian, born in the previous Libra MA&OF was in his mature stage for this Libra period and in 1530 he developed the style introduced by his dramatic Death of St. Peter Martyr.  Also appropriately, Michelangelo, who also born in the previous Libra period, commenced painting The Last Judgment at the end of this Libra period in 1536 – it was a fresco covering the whole altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City depicting the Second Coming of Christ and the final and eternal (Libra) judgment by God and Jesus of all humanity.  Almost immediately after completing the Last Judgment, Michelangelo’s final paintings begun in 1542 – but adopting a major change in style, away from (Libra) grace and aesthetics to an exclusive concern with illustrating the narrative, with no regard for (Libra) beauty.[4] This change of style occurred in the following Taurus micro-age (1537 – 1552) close to the peak of the Capricorn micro-age decan in 1542.

The influence and strength of this much smaller Libra period nevertheless continues to express strong Libran themes. This period witnessed the divorce of England from the Roman Catholic Church over the issues of multiple (Libra) marriages by King Henry VIII.  This breakup was followed by the beginning the Protestant movement and greatest schism in western Christianity spearheaded by Martin Luther in Germany. Spain and Portugal were dividing the world in two and the Austrian and Turks commenced a bitter 150 years of conflict.  China took a dent with two years of drought followed by a gigantic swarm of locusts.  Famous women of this period include Catherine of Aragon, birth of Elizabeth I, ex-slave girl Roxelana and the Virgin of Guadalupe supported by Agrippa’s Declamation on the Nobility and Preeminence of the Female Sex. A witch-hunt in Germany unfortunately balanced the ledger.  All the above have a strong archetypal connection to Libra.

Despite its size, archetypal Libra shines through nevertheless and indicates that micro-age decans also have a significant impact. With this Libra period under the influence of the Cancer micro-age overflow (1522 – 1537), Cancer indicates a time when (Capricorn) leadership is imperiled – which is exactly what occurred in the Roman Catholic Church as the pope’s authority was successfully repudiated by King Henry VIII and antipope Protestants were streaming out of Germany with this new heresy.  One in every three Libra periods will have a strong Cancer influence to contend with, and the same surge of breaking down established authority is always markedly in attendance such as under the current Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029).

Is Western Society Due Another Revolution?

For most people in the western world, astrology is just the sun-sign.   Astrologers are not so circumscribed – they know that the sun-sign is just one of a huge number of influential astrological factors including the ascendant, moon signs, aspects and so on that are available in interpreting and predicting events associated with a person, object or event.

When it comes to the astrological ages, the situation is, in a way, almost reversed.  The average astrologer has usually heard of the Age of Pisces, Age of Aquarius and plus some earlier ages such as the Age of Cancer – with each age somewhere around 2155 years each.  This is akin to sun-sign astrology.  The astrological age in play at any time in history is just one of many factors of the astrological influences that can be extracted from them.

Firstly, each age has three age-decans of almost 720 years each.  Secondly, each age has twelve sub-ages of almost 180 years each.  These again have three sub-age decans of almost 60 years each and 12 micro-ages of approximately 15 years each – and it does not stop there.  Micro-ages have 12 nano-ages of approximately 15 months each, and in the last few years, I have even been employing pico-ages that are only about 5 weeks in length.  These pico-ages provide valuable insights into subtle financial market gyrations. (For more details on the mechanics of the astrological ages, see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies.

The upshot of all these sub-periods is that when any historical event or current affair is examined, it has to be correlated to the appropriate sub-period of an astrological age, otherwise it is like a client wanting to know their future but only provide their sun-sign!

For any astrologer wanting to learn about the sub-periods of the astrological ages, the best sub-periods to commence with are the sub-ages because a new sub-age arrives approximately every 179 years.  Compare this to an age of some 2150 years – the common thread that must remain historically relevant for over 2,000 years, is very thin.  The common thread associated with a sub-age is far shorter and thicker – and thus easier to identify.

The focus in this article is upon the sub-ages that have been experienced within the current Age of Aquarius to date and specifically upon new cultural, social or political movements that have “revolutionised” western society with the arrival of every new sub-age commencing with the 15th century.  It seems that the world is always in decay, but decay can be taken only for so long.  Since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius there have been three large scale revolutions in western society, and we are again facing the problems and issues of another deterioration of western society requiring another revolution?

The three revolutions that have occurred since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius are related to the first three sub-ages within the Age of Aquarius.

Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612)

Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791)

Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970)

The Capricorn Revolution

A medieval scene of a cleric, soldier and worker

What was life like in 1433 AD at the arrival of the Age of Aquarius?  It was medieval!  The greatest institution in western society was the Roman Catholic Church that was riddled with extreme corruption and people could purchase their way to heaven by buying indulgences, thus supplying a steady income stream to the church.  Society’s perspective was based on the extremely conservative Christian tradition and there was no room for rationality or empirical evidence if the Bible had already commented upon a particular subject.  Furthermore, the church was able to dream up dogma on just about anything based on their religious concepts. People lived in a fantasy or what the world was, what it existed in, and how things worked.  People could be burnt alive for being witches.  It was an abject state of affairs and it made living more difficult than necessary as delusion, corruption and ignorance were accepted as real.

So what happened to correct this absurd state of affairs?  It all started with the appearance and evolution of Protestantism in Europe commencing in 1529.  The term derives from the letter of “protestation” from German Lutheran princes in 1529 against an edict of the Roman Catholic Church Diet of Speyer condemning the teachings of Martin Luther as heretical.

In the 16th century, Lutheranism, or associated reformed churches, spread from Germany into most of Northern Europe by such reformers as John Calvin, Huldrych Zwingli, and John Knox. Protestants developed their own culture, which made major contributions in education, the humanities and sciences, the political and social order, the economy and the arts, and other fields.  The Protestants brought the first modern revolution to western society. In their day, they were the revolutionaries.

The changes brought about by Protestantism include a massive drive to educate their youth.  For example, when the Puritans arrived in Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1628, they founded Harvard College only eight years later.  Protestants believed that God gave them the power to reason, greatly contributing to the modern Scientific Revolution.  The main part of the Protestant’s moral code was industry, frugality, calling, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility – all strong Capricorn archetypes.  In tune with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, Protestantism was almost pure democracy in its internal structure compared to the Roman Catholic Church.  This new culture underpinned the formation of the USA.

It should also be noted that the modern Scientific Revolution appropriately commenced with this Capricorn sub-age but the first Age of Science or Scientific Revolution commenced in Ancient Greece  in the previous Capricorn sub-age (551 BC – 370 BC).  According to Nick Campion, this previous scientific revolution was “perhaps comparable to that which transformed European though from around 1500 to 1700, from Copernicus to Newton.”[1]

The Sagittarius Revolution

The bourgeoisie benefited from the Sagittarius sub-age and their “revolution” brought wealth to poverty-stricken western culture.  There were many

revolutions in Europe in the early 1600’s because

There is nothing which stirs and angers the people more than food shortages and the cost of bread.[2]

The common term the “nouveau riche” also applied to the bourgeoisie as a derogatory term by the aristocracy against people that made their wealth from business.  In the 17th and 18th century, the bourgeoisie  were in battle against the Law of Privilege – the divine right to rule by the nobles and aristocracy.  The English Civil War (1642–51), the American War of Independence (1775–83), and French Revolution (1789–99) were partly motivated by the desire by the bourgeoisie to rid themselves of the feudal and royal encroachments on their personal liberty, commercial prospects, and the ownership of property. The extent of the bourgeoisie revolution in England is framed by one history book as “England, Towards a Bourgeois Monarchy”.[3]

In tandem with the bourgeoisie revolution was another major Sagittarius archetype – international travel and affairs.  This sub-age saw the flowering of the great joint-stock companies which emerged in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in Europe which served a leading role in spurring on global commerce and colonization.  The two most famous companies were the English East India Company and the Dutch East India Company – both from Protestant countries.  The end result of the bourgeoisie revolution was the beginning of the Industrial Revolution leading to the greatest economic boom and population explosion the world has ever experienced.

The Scorpio Revolution

The two signs strongly related to revolution are Aquarius and Scorpio, so any Scorpio sub-age within the Age of Aquarius is going to be highly revolutionary, and this sub-age lived up to its archetype.  The great revolution of the Scorpio sub-age was the Workers’ Revolution who basically took on the baton from the bourgeoisie and virtually eliminated western aristocracy in a little over a century.  The plight of workers at the beginning of the Scorpio sub-ages was pitiful.  The first excesses of the Industrial Revolution had created factories involving long hours, child workers, dangerous conditions and low pay while too many bourgeoisie owners behaved like Scrooge McDuck.

At the beginning of this sub-age in 1791, almost the whole of western society remained firmly under control of monarchs and the aristocracy with the

bourgeoisie making great inroads – the USA being the key exception to monarchy.  By 1970, only vestiges of monarchs remained.

However, the workers were not just against the aristocracy, they were also against the bourgeoisie – the owners of businesses. The key year was 1848 when there were a series of political upheavals throughout Europe. It remains the most widespread revolutionary wave in European history.  As a result, significant lasting reforms included the abolition of serfdom in Austria and Hungary, the end of absolute monarchy in Denmark, and the introduction of parliamentary democracy in the Netherlands.  Austria and Prussia eliminated feudalism by 1850, improving the lot of the peasants. European middle classes made political and economic gains over the next 20 years; France retained universal male suffrage. Russia would later free the serfs on February 19, 1861.

A key expression of the Workers Revolution was trade unions.  They were banned in the UK in 1799 and severely repressed until 1824.  More permanent trade unions were established in the UK from the 1850s.  They were finally legalised in 1872 (in the UK).

The working class was not content to just being limited to forming trade unions, it was from the excess of extremists elements of the working class that brought the Russian Revolution in 1917 resulting in the communisation of much of the Eurasian land mass by 1950.  The workers finally got rid of the nobles, bourgeoisie and church – but this excess has been brought back to earth not long after the arrival of the Libra sub-age in 1970.  Nevertheless, something that is never taught in schools is that under the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970), the biggest revolution the world has ever experienced took place.

The Libra Revolution

Each of the above revolutions arrived due to mass discontent of a significant part of western society against limitations and strictures placed upon them.  The limitations usually come from entrenched anti-democratic forces.  If history is any guide, then the current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) should produce another “revolution”.  However what kind of revolution will Libra produce, as it is not a zodiacal sign renown for revolutionary intensity?  It may be better to say “evolution” in place of “revolution” but with the understanding that the result is the same – a major change in direction against an entrenched force.

What are the problems that exist in western society that require an evolution/revolution to fix?  It is not hard to see what the problem is – it is the agenda of most western nations promoting extremists capitalism.  The role of capitalism in the world today represents the opposite extreme of communism of the last century which was in reality extremist socialism.  Capitalism places money at the top of the totem pole, and this has resulted in the ongoing expansion of climate change due to out-of-control pollution in all of its forms and guises. It has also produced a ridiculous situation whereby as of 2015, the richest 1% of the world’s population now owns 50% of its total wealth.[4]

What many people are ignorant about is that when the first western democracy appeared in Ancient Greece (appropriately under the influence of the last Aquarius sub-age), the Athenians were not looking for democracy, they were just looking for a way to prevent utter chaos in their society due to the shenanigans of the rich.

The Libra revolution is firmly in place – it started with the Peace movement, hippies and the appearance of post-modernism in the 1960’s and 70’s.  So powerful and noticeable was this period that it is taken as granted in the American media that the 1960’s and 70’s was the Age of Aquarius with many contemporary writers and media articles waxing lyrical about the Age of Aquarius as if it was a 20 year age!  The 1960’s and 70’s was not the beginning of the Age of Aquarius but the high-point of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148).  Both Scorpio and Aquarius are revolutionary signs, so the revolutionary energies are high (pun not intended).

We are not looking at a violent and turbulent revolution because Libra is in the mix. Not only does the Libra sub-age begin in 1970, coinciding with the

This is a poster for the musical Hair.

Scorpio sub-age overflow, but we are also slowly approaching the high-point of the massive Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) and Libra is opposite in nature to violent Aries.  Violent Aries is in for a surprise as Libra grows in strength, as aggression and violence will be replaced by peace and harmony, but not necessarily agreement.  We can expect a bi-polar world of some sort or another, probably split between totalitarian and democratic states with China at the apex of the totalitarian model (China also has a strong association with Libra).  We can also expect by the middle of the 22nd century that western nations will be relatively split between environmentalists with progressive agendas and died-in-the-wool capitalists keen to make a profit, but more constrained than the current free wheeling extreme capitalism that is currently running the world.

We are not going to see a perfect world (if such a thing is remotely possible), but a world that has been further tweaked, in the same way that the previous three sub-ages have seriously tweaked western society.  One of the reasons why so many people feel anguish at the current state of affairs in the world is that a small but significant percentage of western society has moved their heads into the new reality.  From the perspective of the new reality, the current situation of an anachronistic billionaire at the helm of the greatest nation in the world is just pure anathema, which combined with the ongoing and accelerating worldwide environmental disaster, billions spent on armaments when many many millions of people still starve and suffer – is just to hard to bear.  Major revolutions and evolutions are a multi-century affairs, and those that have the new consciousness will need to include patience and forbearance into their psychological outlook.

The outlook and consciousness of the standard bearers for change in western society will also evolve and develop over the coming century and more.  Some years ago a came across the small movement that promoted non-aggressive communication, which was looked upon like veganism as just being an idealistic extremist agenda with little of no relevance for the wider society.  Recently, I also heard an interesting personal outlook for the new age that is developing that went something like this:

Do not offend anyone.

Do not take offence from anyone.

Do not retaliate or take revenge against anyone that has offended you.

This kind of outlook is the harbinger of the world that is coming.  It is a recipe for harmony, understanding and consciousness.  It will not be a perfect world, but it will resolve some or many of the problems and injustices that remain prevalent in the world.  Most science fiction writers, novels and movies get the future completely wrong.  The common Hollywood expectation is either a world with more advanced technology in a corporate fascist environment or a post-apocalyptic world with numerous hardships and privations in an environment of survival of the fittest or most dangerous.  Neither of these two scenarios align with the current growing strength of Libra in the world.

I have been writing about the good news of where the world is heading  for some time, but we will only see the early stages.  Already the LGBT community is experiencing the benefits of this change, and the ongoing equalization of the sexes has made another step forward in the Me-Too movement.  If you are focused upon where we are going, and avoid focusing upon the inequities in the world carried forward from the past, the world suddenly becomes a better place in your personal bubble.

The Progressives’ Lament

The perspective from outside of the USA is that Darth Vader from the Evil Empire has just been elected president of the USA.  While many Democratic voters are incredulous that such a ‘travesty’ has occurred, many on the other side of the political divide are ecstatic that finally they have someone who can champion the cause of the downtrodden folk, especially in the rust belt.

Darth Vader

How does this election conform to the long term narrative?  The long term narrative is very clear even without recourse to astrology.  There is a multi-century sweep of technical, social and political progress and advances but these advances are not uniform and not always in the forward direction in the short term.  Hitler and Stalin demonstrated that it is possible to go totally against the current and create incredible havoc, but the current wins in the end.  Few can doubt the impressive advance humanity has made over the last 5 centuries despite all the glaring problems and injustices that remain in the world today.

Technology, which includes medicine, has made exponential improvements over the last 4 or 5 centuries.  Many naïve astrologers believe that the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 1960s and 70s and that the landing of men on the Moon is confirmation.  Landing a man on the Moon did not happen overnight but was the result of a long trajectory of scientific advances that commenced in the Scientific Revolution centuries ago.  The latest date that is attributed to the beginning of the Scientific Revolution is the publication in 1543 of Nicolaus Copernicus’s “On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres”.

The same has occurred in politics.  Five hundred years ago the world was run by kings and sometimes queens utilizing the aristocracy as their bureaucracy.  Now that the world is ruled by democracies and dictators, kings and queens have been sent scurrying except in some mainly ‘ornamental’ roles like a living piece in a museum.

What does the past and present tell us about the world?  Simply stated, the world is a work in progress.  Since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, liberal progress has been the overall narrative but progress certainly does not mean advance at every step and turn along the way.  Also, many developments combine both advance and regression at the same time.  For example the Communist revolutions in the early and mid-20th centuries brought social and economic equality and security to many but also stifling bureaucracy that affected anyone that stepped outside the straight and narrow communist ideology.  The Chinese communist government has taken China from being a basket case to the second strongest nation in the world.  Is this progress or not?  It is a mixture.

Science fiction movies generally paint an apocalyptic dystopian future of various sizes and colors.  Is this a reflection by many people that bad news in some big way is on the way?  Most science fiction movies about the future of the Earth are very pessimistic.  Does Hollywood get the future right – is the future a bleak and dreary place?

For this to be the case, Libra (or Venus and Libra) must be a beak and dreary planet and sign.  However these are not archetypes normally associated with either Venus or Libra.  On the negative side of Venus/Libra are many things, but not bleak or dreary. Bleak and dreary belong to Saturn/Capricorn.  The big picture narrative of the world is strongly associated with Libra.  On the down side this will mean problems associated with too much pleasure and too little willpower such as obesity and illnesses associated with sugar such as diabetes and cardiac diseases.  The big problem with Libra is that too much of a good thing can be highly detrimental.  Does this sound like living tribally in caves following an apocalyptic cataclysm?

Why is Libra so powerful in the world?  Each age has three age decans.  The three decans of Aquarius are Aquarius, Gemini and Libra.  However, precession of the equinoxes, which underpin the astrological ages, travels ‘backwards’ through the zodiac, so when the world arrived at the Age of Aquarius it arrived at the backdoor to Aquarius, as it entered Aquarius from the sign Pisces, not Capricorn!  This is why all age decans and sub-periods of the astrological ages such as sub-ages, micro-ages and nano-ages are always in the reverse of their normal order.  This also explains why all ages and sub-periods are far stronger at their endings because the beginnings of all signs are strongest at their start.  When signs are reversed for the ages, the beginning of a sign becomes the end of an age.

When the world entered the Age of Aquarius in 1433, the pre-imminent sign was and remains Pisces because the Age of Pisces had over 2,000 years to build up its momentum to a crescendo in 1433 and then like a tsunami, this Pisces has swept over the world BUT dragging the new kid on the block with it.  The new kid is Aquarius.   The Age of Aquarius peaks in 2863 and therefore has some way to go!  Libra, as the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius is approaching its peak now.

During this over 700 year period, the Libran age-decan (1433-2148) also slowly evolves like the new bud of a plant and it blooms by 2148.  While it will be another 1600 years before the Age of Aquarius blooms, Libra’s bloom is just around the corner next century.  This is why Libra is so powerful in the world even though Pisces and Aquarius are powered by the more powerful ages. We are racing towards the Libra corner of the Age of Aquarius.

Even on an elementary level we can see the strength of Libra currently in the world just by the fact that over the last century or so, females in western democracies have become politically enfranchised, and in many developing countries as well.  Political equality does not mean equality and there is a lot further before equality becomes true on many levels.  This is because Libra is a work in progress too, and this is why there remain so many problematic issues involving females both in western countries and the rest of the world.  Libra is a work in progress, and we will not see its blooming in our lifetimes.  Therefore, a huge number of issues related to females will not get resolved in our lifetimes, but for those with perception, we can witness the seed of the final solution.

The same situation occurs in politics in general.  Since ‘civilization’ arrived, the world has never had it so good as it currently stands.  There is no time in the past that any sensible person would want to be transported to in place of today’s world.  Firstly, there was a 50% chance you would be dead by 20.  Secondly you would not be Cleopatra or Julius Caesar, you would most likely be doing hard labor just to survive in the most basic of circumstances.  Though many people had great lives in past times, the lottery of life in those times was against this being a secure reality.  One historian noted that Julius Caesar would have given everything he had to be an average person in the modern world!

The world today at the beginning of the 21st century is not an end product, it is work in progress.  Any study of history will show that social and political evolution is a slow process.  For example, in the early 19th century, workers, many who were still children, lived and worked in appalling conditions because at the time, money was more important than people, and to a certain degree, this remains the case.  So the workers started to get organised.  They were vilified, attacked, killed and persecuted but after a hundred years or more, they basically got their wish.

This is a poster for the musical Hair announcing a New Age
This is a poster for the musical Hair announcing a New Age

The 1960s and 70s precipitated another socio-political revolution, not a workers revolution but a new age revolution.  The hippies and empathizers introduced a new ethos to Western society, and the majority of this ethos is associated with Libra.  The peace symbol is a Libra archetype.  “Make love not war” is another Libra expression.  This new movement may have started in the 1960s and 70s, but it will not bloom until the middle of next century.

Why did this movement appear in the 1960s and 70s?  Every age has three decans and 12 sub-ages, so every age-decan has 4 sub-ages.  The 4 sub-ages in the current Libra age-decan in chronological order are Capricorn, Sagittarius, Scorpio and Libra.  1970 was the cusp of the Scorpio sub-age (1791-1970) and the Libra sub-age (1970-2148).  You should note that every age-decan concludes with a sub-age of the same sign which is why they are stronger at their end compared to their beginning.

The 1960s and 70s had revolutionary Scorpio at its peak and Libra much more powerful than is normally the case because the new Libra sub-age is not isolated, it is part of the longer and more powerful Libra age-decan (1433-2148).  The ethos of the New Age movement is primarily Scorpio and Libra which also defines the rock music that also came out of this period.

The impact of the new ethos has already greatly affected western culture to the point that gay rights have been, or are in the process of, being legally enshrined.  Relationships have been deregulated from the clasp of religious dogma, and even many states and countries are either deregulating or legalizing recreational drugs.  Of course there is far more to the social revolution of the 1960s and 70s than gay rights, free love and marijuana but underlying it all are the two core archetypes associated with Scorpio and Libra – metamorphic change combined with fairness and tolerance.

Whenever there is a progressive change, there will be a reaction, and one aspect of Trump’s recent success is that on the conservative side of politics, the new ethos of the 1960s and 70s is destroying their perception of a proper life and world.  However, even on the so called progressive side of politics, Bernie Sanders could not even garner enough support to become the nominee for the Democrats.  The new ethos remains a fledgling in western society.

In many countries, but not the USA due to its restrictive electoral system, the new ethos is represented by the Green Party.  In my country, the Greens get about 10% of the vote.  Twenty years ago it would have been lucky to get 5% of the vote.  In 2059 the incoming Libra sub-age energy becomes stronger than the outgoing Scorpio sub-age overflow energy, and this will be the time that about 20% of western nations will support the Green party or similar parties with similar liberal new age policies.

Twenty percent is the tipping point.  Once a group gets to 20%, they have far greater influence upon society than just a 1/5th influence.  There will be some striking headway by the new ethos later this century.  In the meantime, it is not time.  The groundswell or conservative reaction and support for Donald Trump is far stronger than the fledgling new age ethos movement.  Even though the dominant change of the last 40 to 50 years has radiated out from the new age ethos, it will take until the middle of the next century to achieve their goals.  Even in the middle of the 22nd century, only about 50% of the population will be in the new age ethos camp.  However, this should be enough for a Mini Golden Age.

One of the reasons I misjudged the US presidential election is that I was very aware of the above long term narrative, and so I mentally live partly in that future, or a small bubble of the future.  As of December 2014, the world has entered the most progressive astrological time for over 7,000 years.  Why, because it all has to do with earth, air, fire and water.  After much research, I have found that whenever an earth or fire sign is dominant, conservative influences predominate.  Whenever water and air signs dominate, progressive and evolutionary tendencies predominate.  However, water and air signs bring volatility which means big problems while the conservative fire and earth signs usually bring stability – including economic stability – but only on average as Capricorn is an earth sign and always brings big problems.

As of December 2014, the world is in the Pisces age overflow and Age of Aquarius (1433-3574), Pisces age-decan overflow and Libra age-decan (1433-2148), Scorpio sub-age overflow and Libra sub-age (1970-2148), Cancer micro-age overflow and Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014-Nov 2029).  Notice that all these signs are either air or water.  This has not occurred for over 7,000 years.  There are only nine 15 year micro-ages in the whole of the Age of Aquarius where this occurs, and as of December 2014, we are in one of them.  The next one is not due until the Pisces micro-age overflow and Aquarius micro-age (2073-2088).

This is why I erroneously believed Hillary Clinton would become president. If the election had been after 2059, a very different result would have occurred.  But prior to 2059, the new ethos remains too weak on the political agenda.  However, it can readily be seen that this absolutely highly charged revolutionary 15 years has not disappeared in a whimper, it has channelled its energy through Donald Trump.  Remember, water and air signs bring progressive policies and volatility.  While I do believe Trump will bring some progress to the conservative side of politics, it is the volatility that is probably going to be the main game.  Also, 15 years is a long time in politics, and after Trump, it will not be business as normal.  This highly energized Cancer micro-age overflow and Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) will have many more upsets and progress.

There is no need to lament at the outcome of the 2016 presidential elections.  Social change occurs faster than political change, which is why politicians try so hard to prevent or restrict progressive social evolution.  But this is like trying to stop the tide from coming in with a six inch sand wall.

Is the World a Calamity in Progress?

Recently I have been exposed to many people with pessimistic outlooks upon the world.  We know that the world has enough food but yet people are starving.  We know that the world has adequate resources for all yet countless millions live in abject poverty.  We see Donald Trump on TV – and though he has redefined the concept of stupidity, he is an actual contender for the most powerful political position in the world.  And his finger could be on the button!  Will a cascade of intercontinental ballistic nuclear weapons rain down upon an unsuspecting world if he has a bad hair day?  What is also of concern is that over 40% of the American voting public apparently are prepared to vote for him.

This is just a small fraction of all the bad news.  Corporations and governments are facilitating the pollution of our air, water and land to the point that the average person actually must buy pure water to avoid poisoning themselves. Will we have to buy pure oxygen soon due to air pollution? In the Land of the Free (USA), where a greater percentage of the population is imprisoned compared to any other country, they have prisoner ‘sales’ targets whereby governments must ensure that the privatized prisons have at least 90% occupancy. The average prisoner costs the same amount of money to the state as the salary of a teacher.  Despite the trillions spent of the war against terrorists over the last decade or so, the likelihood of a random terrorist attack has increased exponentially many thousands of times.

I am sure that any sane person could spend the rest of their life documenting the ridiculous outcomes of our modern world.  Is modernity a negative concept? Even relatively normal people are expressing concern about where the world is heading.  The general consensus is that the world is like a ball rolling towards the cliff ready to fall over the edge.  This does not inspire optimism or confidence.

The astrology associated with the astrological ages, and specifically our position in the Age of Aquarius, does support the above pessimistic outlook but not the pessimistic outcome.  When we talk about optimism, we usually refer to Sagittarius suggesting that Sagittarius’ opposite sign Gemini is pessimistic.  A superficial examination of Sagittarius and Gemini plus other key signs within the Age of Aquarius reveals the reason for the current desultory outlook by many people, especially in Western Society.

"An Optimist & Pessimist" by Vladimir Makovsky (1846-1920) - Russian painter
“An Optimist & Pessimist” by Vladimir Makovsky (1846-1920) – Russian painter

In contrast to the West, many people in developing nations are not feeling negative or pessimistic as they are currently riding a secondary wave of economic expansion and material prosperity.  Whenever a new age or sub period of an age appears, the focus of new developments is usually focused upon a specific region, center or culture.  This is what occurred with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century which firmly placed a focus upon Western society.  It was Western society that pioneered the new Aquarian age ethos which then spreads out to the rest of the world like the wake of a boat.  This is why Western society has become despondent while other societies are still experiencing the wake of the fading expansionary period.  The new despondent wake will also hit Asia and the rest of the world in the future.

Western society started the modern expansionary economic paradigm with the Industrial Revolution feeding into the worldwide population explosion.  This quiet naturally was associated with the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612-1791-1970) which like a giant wave has swept through the world but spearheaded by mainly Western nations.  The majority of expansion and optimism was experienced in the second half of the wave (1791-1970).

World Manufacturing Graph (1750-1900)

Conversely, Western nations are unwittingly spearheading the drive towards contraction and minimalism but have not yet understood that this is actually happening and that this is not some temporary aberration but will continue for a long time.  The rest of the world is not taking over the reins from Western society, but just catching up, whereupon they will also start their own paths towards contraction, especially with their populations and economic growth. (see All Good Things Must Come to an End for more details)

Though the expansionary Sagittarius wave technically came to an end in 1970, this is not how it works in practice.  Basically the Sagittarius expansionary paradigm continues its momentum until it comes to a barrier. Secondly, near the end of this Sagittarius wave was a Sagittarius micro-age and overflow (1940-1955-1970) with the peak of this smaller wave aligned to the Baby Boomers.  (see Baby Boomers in the Age of Aquarius) The Baby Boomers are the last hurrah of expansionary Sagittarius as the world plummets into out-of-control economic overdrive and environmental degradation.  The Baby Boomers are like the captain of the Titanic encouraging the sailors to increase speed as they plow towards the iceberg.

The main sign that undermines Sagittarius is Gemini.  Gemini is currently developing as the new sign of our times. After the Sagittarius wave came the wave associated with the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791-1970-2148).  This remains very strong in the world and is part of the reason so many people are feeling vulnerable, sarcastic and desultory – Scorpio has never been known as a cheerful sign … unless you call throwing flower petals on a coffin a pleasant experience.  (see SCORPIO – the Sign of the Times …. Revisited – Part 1 )

However, following in the wake of the Scorpio wave is the relatively new Libra sub-age (1970-2148), and based on previous sub-ages, its main period of benefit will be in its overflow period commencing in 2148 whereupon it will bring in a mini Golden Age – provided there is anyone left around to enjoy it!  The current Libra sub-age (this is why a female is running for US president in 2016) has three sub-age decans, and the first sub-age decan within the Libra sub-age is the Gemini sub-age decan (1970-2029). Naturally, Gemini will be far stronger in its almost 60 years overflow period commencing in 2029.

Gemini is opposite Sagittarius, and it is this Gemini sub-age that is currently bringing a halt to economic expansionism and optimistic outlook mainly in the Western economies.  Because Gemini is unlucky and pessimistic, it has a tendency to resort to cheating and thieving to gain advantage.  This growing phenomenon is being played out by corporations around the world where each year they discover new means and methods to cheat their customers.  Whereupon a few years ago, airlines discovered they could extract more money from their passengers by supplying a relatively cheap basic service than charging often exorbitant amounts for add-ons, flight changes and so on, this is now spreading like an inferno. In the absence of a strongly expansionary market, businesses are trying to extract more and more from each customer using anyone of a number of devious and nefarious (Gemini) schemes.

This anti-Sagittarius new Gemini reality may be hypnotizing the world with handheld mobile devices, but it is also associated with a pessimistic outlook.  If everything is not expanding crazily, things must be bad!  However, while Gemini may be a new and growing reality, it is not the most important player on the field.  A massive revolution is underway associated with the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970-2148) leading to an incredibly strong Libra period.  This Libra period will greatly affect the world for over 700 years commencing in 2148 – introducing the first mini golden age after almost 7,000 years of mainly war and violence.  Naturally, the last 5,000 years of war is associated with the arrival of the Aries age and overflow (2916BC – 732BC – 1433AD).

In the meantime in our cell phone modern world, it seems like a partnership with sour old Scorpio and pessimistic Gemini being the two key players of note.  Scorpio is bringing a smaller and more evolved world but change always grates because society and culture is always aligned to Taurus – the sign of stability. Scorpio is the opposite sign to Taurus, so all social cultural values have been under attack since 1791, and picking up speed since 1970.   Scorpio is introducing the most unstable of times and people not only dislike instability, they will even fight for their stable cultural-religious values as they dissolve in slow motion before their eyes.  But cultural values will continue to dissolve because Scorpio improves by first pruning the bush then producing new growth which is more appropriate to the times.  The world is mainly in the destructive side of a major metamorphosis.

If you look carefully, there are huge areas of advancement, progress and social evolution in the world today but our minds are more attuned to the disasters and problems when we feel desultory and pessimistic. A steady and growing percentage of Western populations are acknowledging the key role of the environment over short sighted capitalistic practices. Females continue to demand and get greater equality to the point that the most powerful political position in the world is soon to be most likely held by a woman.  Gays are in the process of gaining the right to marry in a growing number of Western nations. Some drugs demonized only a few decades ago are finding increasing support from mainstream society.

However, socio-political-cultural revolutions are painful, and many reactionary elements will do their best to stop the tide from coming in.  Donald Trump is tapping into this reactionary sentiment by many voters who nostalgically prefer the old over the new.   This is also why in the 1960s and 70s so many nations, including Western nations, succumbed to military coups and dictators in place of democracy to prevent progressive change from upsetting their part of the world.  It did not work then, and it will not work now or in the future but it will temporarily re-appear.  The main change to the change occurring in the world is that it will progressively grow stronger and have wider effects and affect more of the world – change is accelerating.  Reactionary elements will also periodically get stronger and try and stop the tide coming in.

So many people get despondent when they realize they will not be around for the mini Golden Age that will arrive mid next century.  There is no need to feel despondent as anyone can be mentally in the Golden Age now, and while the percentage of the population that may already be mentally in the Golden age is a small percentage, this percentage is constantly growing.  More and more people do not want more of the same. (see The Silent Revolution ) Unfortunately, Gemini makes people impatient, and many people are impatient for all the benefits of the Golden Age which cannot fully manifest before midway through next century.

There are important steps along the way towards the mini Golden Age, but the next most important step does not arrive until 2059 – but a preview will appear next decade.  What will happen around 2059?  In western society at least, about 20% of the population will be environmentally friendly and attuned to progressive political and cultural agendas compared to about 10% at present.  20% is the tipping point and research indicates that once 20% of the population has turned to a different direction, they have far greater influence upon society than what should be expected from only 20% of the population.  However, by the mid 22nd century, this 20% becomes 50%.

Finally, there is also very good news hidden behind the turmoil and angst of the modern world.  Of all the signs, Scorpio is the sign most aligned to inner reality or inner Truth.  This means that one of the greatest opportunities in the world today under Scorpio is to find or discover the inner reality that underpins life, the universe and everything.  Scorpio indicates change and turmoil in the external world but actively promotes the benefits of the inner world and the Truth available from going inside.  If truth and ultimate reality are important to you, then you have hit the jackpot for the time you live in.  Search for it because, among other considerations, the astrology is on your side for success in this endeavor.  It is also more fulfilling than complaining and watching the world seemingly go down the gurgler.

There is an old concept associated with the lotus.  While the lotus expresses beauty and enlightenment, it also usually grows in a smelly putrid swamp.  At this point of history, we definitely get the swamp, but we can also have the lotus.  Many ancient and modern seers have stated that they were distracted from smelling the putrid swamp when dazzled by the lotus.

This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan

No Baby Boomer, or anyone born later, has ever experienced a serious Aquarius sub-period of the Age of Aquarius.  When some Baby Boomers turned on, tuned in and dropped out in the 1960s and 70s they were not responding to the new Age of Aquarius, they were mainly responding to the 1970 peak of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148). The combination of revolutionary Scorpio and revolutionary Aquarius produced a major shakeup of mainly western culture and the ripples of this cultural shakeup are still strongly affecting society today.  The latest example is the recent confirmation by the US Supreme Court of the nation-wide legalization of gay marriage. This ruling is also an early example of the new Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow.

The new Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) is the first micro-age decan of the new Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which resides in the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) – the forth sub-age in the Age of Aquarius.  For an explanation of the sub-periods of the astrological ages, see the Details of the Age of Aquarius for Dummies.

Why should gays have an easy time in an Aquarius micro-age decan?  Aquarius is an extremist sign, and so it places a focus on the outliers of the bell curve, not the mainstream majority.  Any group or sub-culture that is different, eccentric or on the fringe is favored by Aquarius – and this includes homosexuals.  Under Aquarius minorities can temporarily swing the mainstream their way.  This has mixed results as there is no guarantee the minority group is forward thinking with a positive effect upon society.  For example, any examination of the last Aquarius micro-age (1910 – 25) reveals the ability of the fringe Bolsheviks in Russia to take over their government and commence the worldwide communist revolution.

In the more potent Aquarius micro-age overflow period (1925 – 1940) the Nazi’s were able to sway the German public to their fascist principles at the same time similar events were occurring in Spain, Italy and Japan with echoes in most western countries including the USA.  Few people realize that the German Nazi’s never obtained more than a little over 20% electoral support.  The term “Fascism” was first used in 1915 by members of Mussolini’s movement, the Fasci of Revolutionary Action. [1]

The world is not even past the one year mark of the current Aquarius micro-age decan and already it has stamped its mark upon an unsuspecting world.  In the same way that the revolutionary peak of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow in the 1970s resonated with the revolutionary Age of Aquarius, so to the current revolutionary Aquarius micro-age decan resonates with the revolutionary Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2148).  We are indeed in for some interesting times, especially in the Aquarius quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2017 – Jun 2022) which corresponds to the upper half of the Aquarius micro-age decan bell curve.

What has occurred since December 2014 that points towards Aquarius apart from confirmation of gay marriage in the USA?  One small but noteworthy item is the clearance given the propose law to the compulsory vaccination of children in California otherwise they will be prevented from attending public or private schools.  This is an example of the coercive fascist side of Aquarius.  On the other side is the legalization of gay marriage in Ireland in May 2015.

On the serious negative side we have the Charlie Hebdo terrorist massacre in January 2015 which can be directly linked astrologically to the four ISIS inspired attacks in June including the deaths of 40 people at the Tunisian resort at Port El Kantaoui.  Aquarius is the sign of radicals and revolutionaries.  There will be more than just radicals and homosexuals associated with the current Aquarius micro-age decan.  In the more advanced or evolved societies, the push will be towards progressive policies, and the legalization of gay marriage is just one such avenue.  In the less evolved societies, there will be a tendency towards fascism of one sort or another.  Countries like Russia, Thailand and much of Asia, Africa and South America will tend towards totalitarian autocratic type rule to solve their problems.  The more entrenched democratic societies are generally protected from such autocratic tendencies but fascist anti- immigration groups will get more powerful and influential even in First World Countries over the coming decade.

Bernie_Sanders
Senator Bernie Saunders

How will the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow play out in the USA?  Already Donald Trump has jumped on the fascist-leaning bandwagon with his declaration of virtual war against Mexicans.  Fascism always tends to deal with issues in a black and white fashion exploiting populace views.  The already polarized political spectrum in the USA will become more polarized.  If on one extreme we have Donald Trump, on the other extreme we have Bernie Saunders nominating for the Democrats as their presidential candidate. Bernie is the perfect example of a progressive promoting the positive side of Aquarius.  Hillary Clinton also pushes the Aquarius button as a female president of the USA is a progressive development.

FDR_in_1933
President Franklin Roosevelt

The last Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910-1925-1940) is instructive about how the two sides of Aquarius can manifest.  This period saw the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt (1882 – 1945) who was actually one of the most progressive presidents in the history of the USA and in response to the devastation of the Great Depression, he introduced a range of very progressive policies under the New Deal.  He was president from 1933 to 1945 aligned roughly with the Aquarius micro-age overflow (1925 – 1940). FDR’s New Deal promoted united labor unions, big city machines, white ethnics, African Americans, and rural white Southerners while at the same time more closely regulating business and high finance.  Also in line with freedom-loving Aquarius, Prohibition in the USA was repealed in 1933. However all was not rosy in the USA in the 1930s, and the clash of the collective strength of the impoverished and destitute versus local fascism was ably portrayed in John Steinbeck’s novel “Grapes of Wrath”

However in parallel with the progressive FDR, was the appearance of the Black Legion, which included in its membership serving members of the military and National Guard.  This group was the most violent expression of organized opposition against FDR and his New Deal policies. The Black Legion openly acknowledged that they considered the president a threat and sought the overthrow of the government.  The group primarily targeted Communists, blacks, Jews, and Catholics in the name of God for the protection of white Protestant America. The group was heavily associated with the Republican Party.  The group was political, large, and took serious action, including lynching people, shooting murders, floggings, kidnappings, and general threats of violence against people and groups that they opposed. The Black Legion was also acting in accord with the interests of some corporations and actively assisted corporations in union busting and threatening labor organizers.

In addition to the thugs of the Black Legion, some of the most famous American companies and business people were deeply involved with the Fascist regimes of Europe in the 1930s of which they admired.  These included: William Randolph Hearst, Joseph Kennedy (JFK’s father), Charles Lindbergh, John Rockefeller, Andrew Mellon (head of Alcoa, banker, and Secretary of Treasury), DuPont, General Motors, Standard Oil (now Exxon), Ford, ITT, Allen Dulles (later head of the CIA), Prescott Bush, National City Bank, Coca-Cola, and General Electric. It was reported by the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary in 1974 that:

“The activities of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler prior to and during World War II…are instructive…… In short, they were private governments unaccountable to the citizens of any country yet possessing tremendous influence over the course of war and peace in the world.  The substantial contribution of these firms to the American war effort in terms of tanks, aircraft components, and other military equipment is widely acknowledged. Less well known are the simultaneous contributions of their foreign subsidiaries to the Axis Powers. In sum, they maximized profits by supplying both sides with the materiel needed to conduct the war.”[2]

The fascist way of describing corporations is to label them as anti-democratic dark forces of concentrated wealth, but this would be pure idiocy.  Like nearly everything, there are two sides to corporations and business interests.  The wealth and affluence we experience today is due to the successful wealth creation of corporations and business interests over the last few centuries.  When communism banned corporations and private enterprise they not only threw the baby out with the bathwater, they threw out virtually the whole family.  20th century communism was an abject failure but people have difficulty with big picture perspective and therefore cannot see that the world pendulum has swung the other way and has arrived at extreme capitalism.  While extreme capitalism continues to exist, it can sway and influence governments, governmental policies and laws and even more, as the Murdoch press did to the 2000 US elections in what could be regarded as the first corporate coup in the USA.  Corporate heavyweights also planned a coup to topple FDR.  Despite the dark forces around him, FDR instituted many progressive reforms in the USA.

Pushing back to previous Aquarius periods of note we arrive at the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1861) of the Gemini micro-age (1851 -1866).  This is the same combination and arrangement as the current Aquarius micro-age decan.  The 1850s in the USA was the decade of ‘Bleeding Kansas’ when a series of violent political confrontations between anti-slavery and pro-slavery elements took place mainly in the Kansas Territory between 1854 and 1861, exactly coincident with the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (1856 – 1861) when this Aquarius period was at full strength.  The heart of the conflict was the question of slavery.  This conflict was a proxy war between anti-slavery forces in the North and pro-slavery forces from the South.

This conflict presaged the Civil War (1861 to 1865)[3] exactly coincident with the middle Libra micro-age decan overflow (1861 -1866) of the 19th century Gemini micro-age. This suggests that Libra is a dangerous sign for entrenched traditional elements in the USA and suggest the period 2024 to 2029 (again aligned to a Libra micro-age decan overflow) will be an extreme confrontational period in the USA.  The seeds of this conflict should appear with the current Aquarius micro-age decan (2014 – 2019) and become bleeding obvious in the period 2019 – 2024.  This does not suggest anything as extreme as a civil war, as the 19th century period occurred just past the 1851 peak of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791-1851-1910) with Cancer in opposition to the highly conservative Capricorn element high on the USA’s totem pole.  Context is everything in macro-astrology.  However the levels of opposition and bitterness will reach new heights.

There is the possibility that another progressive president of FDR genus may appear in American politics under the current Aquarius period.  Bernie Saunders may be FDR reincarnated?  However the current Aquarius period is one third the strength and size of FDR’s Aquarius micro-age and overflow.  This limits both the degree of progressive policies that will occur and the opposing fascists’ sentiments of conservative groups.  However, fascist tendencies will also strengthen in the USA over the coming decade in the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow even if Hillary Clinton or Bernie Saunders becomes president.

If the world just kept going around in circles, we would have the likes of Hitler and Mussolini appear regularly, but  each decade and century pushes the world further into the heartland of the Age of Aquarius, and the astrology strongly suggests that the world is heading towards a more progressive and democratic  world.  As an example, all OECD nations[4] are firmly democratic.  Since December 2014, for the first time in over 7,000 years, the world is in an age, age-decan, sub-age, sub-age decan, micro-age and micro-age decan which when combined with all their respective overflow periods, are ALL in Water or Air zodiacal signs.  It is the Fire and Earth signs that breed conservatism while the Air and Water signs promote progressive liberal policies.  So while there will be some backtracking, especially in the Second and Third World nations, the world is not speeding towards fascism but towards secular progressive democratic liberalism.

The liberal-fascist struggle will be played out mainly in the Middle East, China, Russia and Africa in the coming decade with fascism always the easy option.  The current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow sits under the shadow of the Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029).  Cancer promotes China, Russia, Scandinavia, Canada, New Zealand and much of Polynesia, the Middle East including Greece.  These countries and regions excluding Scandinavia, Canada and New Zealand may succumb to backward political developments.  Progressive modern countries will be influenced by both sides of Aquarius but fascism needs an undemocratic environment to succeed and these countries are unlikely to succumb to populace brute force over democracy.

The revealing years for the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow is the overflow period of December 2019 to November 2024 when the era of military coups so strong in the 1960s and 70s (under Scorpio) will again affect less evolved countries.  Some second tier countries will make progressive advances and other will turn more to fascism to control their populations.  Third World countries will be the most prone to autocratic exercise of fascism.  The countries most at risk are associated with Leo  as Leo is opposite Aquarius and therefore Leo countries will be either under threat or aggressive.   The Leo associated countries also include all of South America plus Bhutan, France (and particularly Paris – the City of Light), Greece, India, Israel and Zimbabwe – though these lists are incomplete.

Already Paris has been hit with the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack.  Greece resorted to a democratic defense in July 2015 to attempt to fight off the international bankers.  The likely contenders to be caught in the Aquarius net are:  Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and South America in general, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey and the USA. Singapore and Turkey will be interesting case studies to watch to see how far they may graduate into progressive countries or regress into fascism even though Turkey is an OECD country.

Countries that are financially vulnerable under Aquarius are any country associated with Cancer.  This includes a significant number of countries with China at the top of the list followed by Middle Eastern countries, much of Polynesia, France, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Mexico, Canada, Russia, and the UK.  Countries that can lose prestige in any of a number of ways are those countries associated with Scorpio.  Scorpio countries include France, Germany, Indonesia and Japan (though Germany has a strong relationship with Aquarius and therefore avoid any loss of prestige).  The Roman Catholic Church’s reputation or status is also awkward in this period as the Roman Catholic Church is a Pisces-Scorpio institution (with plenty of Aries and Capricorn thrown into the mix).

The four stages of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow are as follows:

Stage Start End Strength
1 Dec-14 Jun-17 Weak
2 Jun-17 Dec-19 Medium
3 Dec-19 Jun-22 Strong
4 Jun-22 Nov-24 Medium-Strong

The next upgrade of Aquarius is around June 2017 where even stronger hints of what lie ahead should appear.  From December 2019 onwards it is Aquarius all-the-way but from June 2022 it will pull back somewhat as the Libra quasi micro-age decan comes online but there is always a sting in the tail of all periods in macro-astrology.

The Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow will also archetypally interface in part with the Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029) because Cancer is anti-authoritarian and Aquarius is revolutionary which means it is usually fighting authority.  People from one end of the world to the other will be seeking to break free of out-of-date restrictions and limitations.  In response, reactionary forces will institute draconian and fascist’s measures to counter such ‘insurrection’ and the strength of each society will determine which of the progressive or reactionary forces succeed.  In some cases it will be the opposite scenario where the revolutionary forces (ISIS, Taliban, Al Quada etc.) or anti-immigration parties will attempt to exert their views upon society and either succeed or fail.  The anti-immigration forces will strengthen as the Cancer micro-age decan overflow that commenced in December 2014 ensures 7 years of increased movement of people between countries seeking a better home and lifestyle compared to before December 2014.

Another side of Aquarius is excitement.  The last Aquarius micro-age coincided with the Roaring 20s and the Jazz Age.  The cultural aspects of the Roaring Twenties began in leading metropolitan centers, especially Chicago, New Orleans, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Paris, Berlin and London; then spread widely in the aftermath of World War I producing a period with a distinct cultural edge. The French called it the “Crazy Years” emphasizing the era’s social, artistic and cultural dynamism. Jazz music blossomed, the flapper redefined modern womanhood and Art Deco peaked. The era saw the large-scale use of electricity (ruled by Aquarius) plus significant changes in lifestyle and culture. In most major countries women won the right to vote.  The spirit of the Roaring Twenties was marked by a general feeling of discontinuity associated with (Aquarius) modernity and a break with traditions. Everything seemed to be feasible through modern technology. New technologies, especially automobiles, movies and radio enhanced the surge of “modernity” to a large part of the population. At the same time, jazz became popular and the period is also often referred to as the Jazz Age.[5]  We can expect exciting times ahead under our smaller Aquarius period and perhaps we will see some Jazz musicians the likes we have not seen for decades? The discordance of jazz matches the eccentric nature of Aquarius.

Finally, the new Aquarius period will ‘oppose’ the remnant influence from the Leo micro-age and overflow (1985-2000-2014) with the Leo micro-age period proper (1985 – 2000) aligned to the greatest bull market of all times.  The first major threat to the (Leo) bull market was the Scorpio micro-age decan overflow (2010-2014) coinciding with the darkest years of the recent Global Recession as Scorpio ‘demotes’ anything associated with Leo.  The remnants of the Leo bull market left in the world will get trampled upon by the Aquarius period, especially its overflow commencing in December 2019. This may already be affecting China’s share markets.

Aquarius is one of the ruling signs for astrology, the other two keys signs also recognized as being associated with astrology are Scorpio and Cancer.[6] Considering the world is in the most potent Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970-2148), Cancer micro-age overflow (2014 – 2029) and now in the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (2014-2019-2024) we can expect some significant developments in the world of astrology, especially in the period 2019 to 2024.

As the world slowly creaks towards the strength of the Aquarius Age over the coming centuries, the tide passes over different landscapes, and the main landscape at this part of the Age of Aquarius is defined by Scorpio due to the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970-2148).  Change is accelerated at this time as both Scorpio and Aquarius promote change.  Despite the great change forecast for the rest of this century, there is nothing as dire or gloomy as existed in the much of the first part of the 20th century.  However Scorpio provides a hint at how to best deal with our time.  Scorpio indicates that what is external is vulnerable because the strength lies inside.  Scorpio is the time of inner truth and history indicates that in previous Scorpio periods, there were a far greater number of seers, visionaries and promoters of Truth compared to other periods.  For example one of the greatest promoter of inner truth (when he was alive) was Jesus Christ[7] who lived almost at the same exact stage the world is in now but in the previous Peace_signScorpio sub-age overflow (8 BC – 173 AD).  Our 2015 corresponds to year 36 AD.  For those worried about climate change and the environment, the world will eventually be saved by the ethos of the new green and environmental movement that grew out of the alternative revolution of the 1960s and 70s at the peak of Scorpio.  This will not succeed in the coming decade, but it will eventually succeed.

Never a dull moment under Aquarius!
