2024 in the Age of Aquarius

The world enters 2024 with several unresolved issues.  Some of the key issues at the end of 2023 leading into 2024 include the Israeli-Hamas conflict, the cost-of-living crisis, the housing crisis, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, widespread pessimism, the tail end of the Covid-19 pandemic, refugees and finally the possible election of Donald Trump as the president of the USA. There are also the outstanding discoveries of the James Web Space Telescope.

2024 remains another highly potent year compared to the average as the two key nano-ages that are activated in 2024 resonate with larger and more powerful periods. To arrive at any nano-age, it is necessary to start with an astrological age of some 2,150 years, and divide it into 12 sub-ages of approximately 178 years each.  These sub-ages can be further divided by 12 into micro-ages of some 15 years each.  These micro-ages can be divided by 12 into nano-ages of some 15 months each, and all these periods have three decans each, so a nano-age decan is approximately 5 months. [for more details, see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies ].

All the 5-month nano-age decans that will be in play up until November 2024 resonate with larger periods of the same sign.  For example, the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24) resonates with the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2149) [see Table 1].  Due to the resonance between the small Scorpio nano-age overflow with the far more influential Scorpio sub-age decan and sub-age overflow, the small Scorpio nano-age will have far more punch compared to a different nano-age or nano-age decan that has no resonance.

Table 1 – the Scorpio nano-age overflow (Aug 2023 – Nov 2024) strongly resonates with the Scorpio sub-age decan overflow and Scorpio sub-age overflow making this small Scorpio nano-age overflow potent. The quasi-period indicates which of the actual sign or overflow sign has the strongest impact. The three main signs for 2024 are Gemini, Libra and Scorpio.

The Scorpio nano-age overflow (August 2023 – November 2024)

The main story for 2024 is the continuing unfolding of the Scorpio nano-age overflow (Aug 23 – Nov 24).  Though Scorpio brings rebellions, revolutions, increased terrorism, nuclear threats and volcanic disruptions, it would be a mistake to state that 2024 will focus only on the difficult sides of Scorpio and that 2024 is therefore predicted to be a bad year.  The peaking of the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24) in August 2023 quickly experienced its effects on Taurus-aligned Israel with the unexpected attack by Hamas fighters from Gaza bringing death and abduction to some border Israeli districts and reigniting passions around the world.

Though Israel appears to have the upper hand in the current round of conflict with Hamas, the astrology indicates another perspective.  Scorpio promotes assaults upon (Taurus) Israel, and Scorpio is a strong influence in the world for the whole of this century.  Under the same Scorpio sub-age overflow in the previous Pisces age, the Jews were expelled from Israel by the Romans in 135 AD.  This is equivalent to about the year 2105.  The problem for Israel is that they must win every battle, while the Palestinians in league with many sympathetic neighbors, only need to win the last battle.  This will most likely occur before the end of the current Scorpio sub-age overflow in 2149 but unlikely in our lifetimes.

Scorpio is also a frugal financial influence, and this has manifested as the cost-of-living crisis that has occurred in many countries throughout the world.  Typically, Scorpio undermines the economy and banks, but this time, its focus seems to be on the shortage of money due to inflation – especially in the poorer half of society.  This difficult financial prognosis should affect most of 2024, but its intensity should subside before the end of 2024.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is unlikely to be resolved in Ukraine’s favor while Scorpio remains strong as Scorpio is strongly associated with Russia, and Scorpio’s opposite sign of Taurus seems associated with  Ukraine which was often called ‘the breadbasket of Europe’.  This may explain the current stalemate.

Other events associated with Scorpio include the eruption of the Icelandic volcano Fagradalsfjall in November 2023 following earlier eruptions in March 2021, August 2022 and July 2023.  This hive of activity followed 815 years of inactivity, and it is therefore notable that when it erupted around 1206 AD,[i] this occurred in the Taurus sub-age overflow (1075 – 1254) while the recent eruptions all occurred in the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2149) with Taurus and Scorpio opposite signs.  Any volcanic eruption can be associated with Scorpio, and for Scorpio, Taurus is a stressful sign sitting at the 7th house position. We may not have seen the end of erupting Fagradalsfjall.

Scorpio is associated with space travel and exploration.  Naturally, dark matter and dark energy are associated with Scorpio and the great majority of the universe is believed composed of dark matter and energy.  One of the key positive foci of the Scorpio nano-age and overflow has been the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) which was launched in December 2021 and by August 2022, just within the Scorpio nano-age and overflow (Jun 22 – Aug 23 – Nov 24), started to provide insights into the early universe which has undermined much of the previous scientific expectations.

The JWST showed that primordial galaxies appeared much earlier.[ii] Judging by the reaction to the JWST images, a revolution is seeping throughout astronomy and the Standard Cosmological Model is under threat creating the Crisis in Cosmology[iii] – though in reality it is just an example of another step forward in our understanding of the universe.  Scorpio rules both revolutions and deep space, so these discoveries precipitated by the JWST perfectly correlate to this Scorpio nano-age and overflow as part of the skeleton of the massive Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2149)

Most people would expect that we are at the beginning of thousands of years of space exploration, but this is not what astrology indicates.  Our era of space exploration may only extend to the end of the next century when the influence of Scorpio peters out.  Other issues will replace space travel – for a while at least, and it could be many centuries before the world returns to intensive space exploration including space telescopes etc.  The economic trauma of climate change and major conflict in the 21st century may stifle space exploration before humanity regains its momentum established in the 20th century.

Libra nano-age (Aug 2023 – Nov 2024 – Feb 2026)

Table 2 – In November 2024, the Libra nano-age increases in strength as it goes into its overflow mode.  The Scorpio nano-age comes to an end while the Virgo nano-age makes its first tentative appearance.

The arrival of the Libra nano-age overflow in November 2024 is a major development because this Libra nano-age sits within the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) which moves into its more potent overflow stage for the period November 2024 until November 2029 as the following Table 3 indicates.

Table 3 – The Gemini micro-age (and overlapping Cancer micro-age overflow) indicates that in November 2024, the Libra micro-age moves into its more powerful overflow mode.

This Libra nano-age and Libra micro-age decan sits within both the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) which itself sits at a critical point in the massive Libra age decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) – see Table 4 below:

Table 4 – displaying the first third of the Age of Aquarius, specifically the Libra age-decan including the first four sub-ages of the Age of Aquarius.

The period November 2024 to November 2029 forms a critical part of the Libra age-decan backbone and will probably be the most potent period for most readers alive today other than those alive during the two decades surrounding 1970 – what colloquially is termed the Age of Aquarius but was actually the peak of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148) combining revolutionary Scorpio with revolutionary Aquarius and accounting for that massive cultural revolution that continues to pulsate through Western society today.

The last time the world experienced a Libra micro-age decan overflow was from 1915 to 1920 aligned with most of the First World War.   [see The Backbone of the Libra Age-Decan (1433 – 2149) ]. Also, it’s relevant to acknowledge the arrival of the Libra quasi nano-age (Apr 2024 – Jul 2025) which will again increase the likelihood of increased conflict in any current conflict, and an increase in conflict due to a new theater of war.

There is a good astrological reason why the prospect of a major war or conflict is gaining ground.  The current unrest between Palestinians and Israelis is in addition to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia which brought the most significant conflict back to Europe since the Second World War.  The world since early October 2023 now has two areas of greater tension than the normal African or South American wars or insurrections that always seem to exist.  Either of these two major conflagrations could lead to a much bigger conflict, or these two conflicts are setting a trend towards greater than average conflicts, and one or more new heightened conflicts could appear at any time and any one of these conflicts could get out of control.  This will be particularly potent from November 2024 onward when the Libra nano-age enters its overflow period and marks the start of the most potent time of conflict most people in the world will experience in their lives.  Occasionally Libra produces a peace treaty.

One example of the peace deals that also can be associated with Libra is the amnesty deal between the Spanish government and a Catalan separatist party in late 2023 which will allow the socialists to remain in power with the support of Catalonia.  The attempt by Catalonia to secede from Spain in late 2017 occurred under the revolutionary Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 – Dec 19 – Nov 24) but with the Aries nano-age and overflow (Mar 16 – Jun 17 – Sep 18) in play, activating the 12th house to Spain’s Taurus.  The fact that under the Scorpio-Libra[iv] nano-age (Aug 23 – Nov 24) a sort of reconciliation has occurred, is testimony to the treaty side of Libra, and also with Scorpio opposite Taurus Spain, this also activates the 7th house of alliances.  We may see another development in this story with the Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24).  The Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) promotes fragmentation.

The reason why we get caught off guard by pandemics and high-level conflict is due to the march of micro-ages and their decans.  Every age has twelve sub-ages of around 178 years each, and these sub-ages have twelve micro-ages of almost 15 years each including three decans of almost five years each.  Hardly anyone today has experienced the power of Libra before the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 19 – Nov 24 – Nov 29) as the last time the world experienced such a Libra period was from 1910 to 1920, so we do not have a collective memory of the direct experience of Libra at this level.

The same occurred with the Covid-19 pandemic which correlated to the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 19 – Nov 24) but the previous period when Aquarius had this strength was the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) so very few people have experienced the extreme disruption Aquarius invariably brings in its wake.  Before the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow I did not realize that one of the main attributes introduced to an unsuspecting world by Aquarius is disruption – such as we experienced during the Covid times.

The current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) has three sub-age decans and the relevant sub-age decan for 2024 is the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) with both Gemini and Libra dual-bodied signs.  This signifies that the world is returning to either a bipolar world or a fragmented world – or both. For better or worse, China will continue to extend its influence in the world, and ‘oppose’ or balance Western culture – one way or another. We are not going to be one big happy world this century or millennium as the Libra age-decan and overflow of the Aquarian age extends to 2865.  However, with Libra, there is always the possibility of peace accords and treaties.

Most of the manifestation of our tiny Libra nano-age and overflow should appear later in 2025, but Libra also promotes the reinstatement or elevation of the role of women.  While this is currently limited to mainly Western and modern nations, full social, legal and political equality remains elusive even in Western nations, and dwindles as we venture into Second World nations (Iran) with some reversals in Third World nations such as Afghanistan.  The world is currently in the Libra decan (1433 – 2149) of the Aquarian age (1433 – 3581), but while much progress has been made with women’s rights, this evolution in the world will require the addition of the Libra age-decan overflow (2149 – 2865) to see women’s rights as an entrenched global phenomenon.  This millennium is dedicated to women based on our place in the Age of Aquarius, but it will take most of the millennium to achieve.

Libra specifically implies equality, and as such has been the symbolic standard-bearer for post-Enlightenment equality and freedom in Western nations. All forms of art, beautiful objects, gardens, and the leisurely social life fall within Libra’s gambit. Libra rules young women and girls. On the downside, Libra themes encompass indecisiveness and hesitation, which may impede political decision-making. Any archetype associated with Libra’s opposite sign Aries is, in general, lacking in Libra, therefore Libra is not associated with major engineering feats, sport, and male heroes.

Libra relates to Protestantism, China and the oriental East in general, the USA and specifically with the USA government.  Any nation or region associated with Aries can either come under attack, or attack in a Libra period or suffer in some way. Aries is possibly associated with Australia, the whole of Europe and specifically Germany and the UK, plus Iran and Palestine.  Aries may also be associated with Afghanistan, Brazil, Canada, India, Mongolia, New Zealand, Russia and even the gun-toting USA for obvious reasons.  Though war and conflict are not predicted exclusively for these Aries-aligned nation, they could be combatants in any conflict ahead, especially China with its Libra credentials.

Nano-age decans

Gemini nano-age decan overflow (January – June 2024)

The Gemini nano-age decan will enter its overflow mode in January 2024 until June 2024.  This little Gemini nano-age is resonating with the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which itself is part of the backbone of the Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029) of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149).  Gemini is a big deal for most of this century and will make a splash in the first third of 2024.

Table 5 – the nano-age decans and overflows for 2024

Gemini promotes the communication revolution that has followed the establishment of the World Wide Web but is anti-anything associated with Sagittarius such as international travel, honesty and ethics.  Gemini focuses on youth and students and vocational education, but also on scams, online theft and youth crime which is seeing a worldwide surge.  Gemini is the sign of cities so should continue to promote the influx of the world’s population to ever-larger urban centers.

Any Sagittarian country can suffer under Gemini.  This may apply to Australia, China, India, Laos, Spain, Thailand, UK, USA, Israel and the Vatican City.  This country list is not exhaustive, so I may not catch all countries with Sagittarius strongly placed in their respective astrological signatures.  Gemini countries can come under focus for good or bad and include Iraq, the Koreas, Singapore, Syria and Tajikstan, which again is not complete. Gemini activates Pisces countries or regions 4th house of anti-status, so these are worth noting: Europe, France, Ireland, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, UK, USA, most Caribbean nations, Brunei, Cameroon, Czech Republic, most Polynesian countries, and Vatican City.

The relevance of this Gemini nano-age decan and especially its overflow is that most of the current century will have Gemini near the top of the totem pole due to the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) and 2029 is fast approaching.  This little nano-age is yet another preview for the times ahead.

Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24)

We enter 2024 under the influence of the Gemini nano-age decan and overflow (Aug 23 – Jan 24 – Jun 24) and the world will again have to cope with Aquarius associated with the overlapping Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 24 – Jun 24 – Nov 24) especially in its second half.  Both these influences also resonate with more powerful periods, so never a dull moment in 2024.  The one to watch the most is the Aquarius nano-age decan (Jan 2024 – Jun 2024) especially when it enters the Aquarius nano-age decan overflow (Jun 2024 – Nov 2024) as this is the sting-in-the-tail of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 – Dec 19 – Nov 24) which has already upset much of the world with the arrival of Trump and populace right-wing politicians around the world, Brexit for Leo UK and the coup-de-gras – the Covid 19 pandemic that did more to interrupt the world than anything since the Second World War.

The sting-in-the-tail is the final fling of any sign, in this case, Aquarius.  What will Aquarius interrupt or significantly alter in 2024 – though mainly in the second half of 2024?  Firstly, it may see a resurgence of Covid-19.  COVID-19 appeared at the exact highpoint of the Aquarius micro-age and overflow in December 2019 and so this final sting-in-the-tail could see its return – but at a smaller scale and impact compared to its initial appearance.  It could also see something new that is an echo of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow encompasses the US presidential elections in November 2024.  Will Trump return in all his glory, or will his place be filled with a clone?  Will the presidential election have an unexpected result? Aquarius empowers Russia so will Russia wipe Ukraine off the map or will Ukraine’s fight for (Aquarius) liberty and freedom succeed? Aquarius is not good for Israel and so Israel may face greater-than-expected challenges in war with Hamas?

Major themes associated with Aquarius comprise democracy; electricity; flight; eccentricity; dictators and tyrants. Anything new including modernity, fresh developments especially in the scientific, mechanical and electrical fields, concepts and views of the future, the avant-garde, unique, sudden and unexpected developments, and science fiction (with Pisces). On the dark side of Aquarius are fascists, dictators, tyrants and autocratic governments, such as Hitler, Mussolini, Pol Pot and now Putin. Electricity, computers, and all associated technology including flight and space travel are Aquarius. Eccentrics (the mad professor), schizophrenics, fringe dwellers, different or abnormal behavior, astrology, astronomy, explorers, and anything exciting or bizarre are usually associated. Finally, Aquarius does everything quickly, like a bolt of lightning or with unprecedented speed. Aquarius is probably associated with world government.  Aquarian periods are generally ‘exciting’.

Countries associated with Aquarius include Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey and the USA.  A number of these may take significant focus in any Aquarius period, and not necessarily for anything positive.  Leo countries can experience stress in an Aquarius period.  Such countries include France, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Koreas, Laos, Serbia, Thailand, UK, Zimbabwe and probably Ukraine. The full scope of the Aquarius nano-age decan and overflow as the sting-in-the-tail of the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow is the preview of a much larger Aquarius period whose might will not be experienced until around 2088 and beyond when the coming Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029 – 2088 – 2149) peaks in 2088.  This approaching Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow is the baptism of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3581) and I am sure the world will be both shocked and surprised as to what Aquarius brings to the table, in the same way we have been shocked and surprised at what the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) has brought us – but on a much smaller scale.  Our soon-to-end little Aquarius period is the preview of the approximate 120 years Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow.  Many key developments that have gained traction in our little Aquarius period will see their fruition around 2088 and beyond.  This naturally includes AI and the marvels of our computer age.  The scientific validity of astrology will probably occur around 2088.

Conclusion

Though the focus in 2024 sits with the key nano-ages and their decans that apply, the world remains in the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029), and Cancer will promote all domestic issues including the housing crisis and people looking for home – refugees.  Though not particularly in focus in 2024, they will remain contentious issues.  Cancer will continue to focus on all countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, the Middle East, any Islamic nation and of course China.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia reflects the stress created between the Pisces and Aquarius ages.  Putin is a perfect reflection of the kind of leaders the world was forced to endure under the reign of the Pisces age while the Ukrainians prefer to live under Western-style liberal democracy fostered by Aquarius.  These types of conflicts and disputes will be entrenched in the world for quite some time. Nuclear threats and intimidation by the likes of Russia and North Korea should be expected at a minimum in 2024 as the world remains highly vulnerable under Scorpio. There could be an increased focus on nuclear power.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the result of the tail end of European colonialism when the West went out and conquered as much of the world as possible starting in the 15th century aligned with Pisces achieving its peak power in 1433 AD and washing over the following centuries.  The problem here is that the West has relinquished most of their conquered territories back to their original inhabitants since the Second World War, while the Israelis have tried to extend European imperialism past its use-by date.  The arguments by both sides are entirely understandable, but the track record shows that the Israelis will ultimately find themselves on the wrong side of history unless they learn how to peacefully co-exist with the Palestinians and their neighbors.

Covid-19 still may have a small punch left in its bag of tricks, or perhaps something similar will take its place in 2024.  Since the Great Recession (2007 – 2009), the world has seen central banks working overtime printing money to stimulate a sluggish world economic environment.  All that extra money slushing around can still only buy the same limited amount of goods available, so the price of shares in the stock market and real estate significantly increase, and then spread to consumer goods and services.  Such stimulatory packages intrinsically favor the rich half of society, as they own the majority of real estate and shares, while the poorer half of society must suffer a loss of purchasing power and thus experience a lower standard of living.

The increasingly pessimistic view of the world expressed by a growing number of people is a combination of Gemini and moody Cancer.  Gemini is opposite in nature to optimistic Sagittarius, and the ongoing influence from the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 -1970) is currently being torn to shreds by the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) to the detriment of optimism and the growth of Gemini pessimism.  The Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2024 – 2029) will make people hypersensitive and moody, thus producing a gloomy outlook for many people.

Finally, Scorpio remains the dominant influence for most of 2024 and Scorpio, amongst other things, is associated with inner truth and peace.  Though way outside the experience of most people, the strength of Scorpio in 2024 is as good as it gets for those rare seekers of Truth.  When the world presents itself at its blackest, it can coincide with when Truth is easiest to find compared to most times in history.  For those interested, you can fast-track your search at Words of Peace Global.

Note – Details on the Virgo nano-age (Nov 24 – Feb 26) and its Taurus nano-age decan (Nov 24 – Apr 25) will be posted later in 2024.

[iv] The Scorpio-Libra nano-age is another way of describing the period where the Scorpio nano-age overflow and overlapping Libra nano-age are in effect.

Libra micro-age decan & overflow (January 1692 – December 1701)

The Gemini micro-age (Jan 1687 – Dec 1701) contains a Libra MAD&OF (Jan 1692 – Jan 1697 – Dec 1701) and mimics to a certain extent the early 21st-century configuration – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2029). The major influence of the late 17th century was the Leo sub-age decan overflow (1672 – 1731) which appropriately restored the English monarchy and all the opulent embellishments made taboo during the grim years of Cromwell’s Puritans. This period called The Restoration commenced prior to this Libra period in 1660 when the pendulum of English morality swung from repression to license more or less overnight.  This small Libra period was therefore rejoicing in its newly returned frivolity of all types.

The First Global War

Once again, a major conflict was in place though it had already commenced prior to this Libra period, but it was mostly within the Libra period that the fiercest fighting occurred in 1692-3.  The Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) was a conflict between France and an opposing European coalition which included England, Spain and Portugal with theatres also in North America and India. Its importance in association with this Libra period is that this war is not only considered to be the first global war – but also is considered a precursor to the two world wars of the 20th century.

The Nine Years’ War encompassed Ireland and Jacobite risings in Scotland (with some later elements of the Jacobite risings partly portrayed in the TV series Outlander), and North America between French and English settlers and their respective Indigenous allies.  England was once again threatened by invasion, this time by the new European bully – France (which had replaced Spain as the key European power to be reckoned with, but this imminent invasion was thwarted by the destruction of the French navy in 1692.  The last year of this Libra period saw the beginning of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) due to unresolved issues of the Nine Years’ War with a focus on maintaining the (Libra) balance of power between different European countries.[1]

Politics

In 1693, William Penn’s (the founder of Pennsylvania) growing concern about the devastation of perennial (Aries) war in Europe resulted in his observation that a “European dyet, or parliament”,[2] was necessary to prevent further war, without going into details.  This is why the Libra world that is coming our way will probably include an international government as even in 1693, people recognized that without an overarching government, such as maintained in the heyday of Ancient Rome, the Mongol Empire and so on, peace is otherwise difficult if not impossible. Genghis Khan is believed to have boasted that a virgin carrying a bag of gold could traverse his empire by foot without fear. Those regions such as Ancient Greece that never unified were always at war with each other.  Indian and Chinese states were regularly at war with each other except when united under one ruler.

In 1692 the Chinese emperor issued the Edict of Toleration of Christianity followed in 1698 with a similar statement of Islam stating:

“Even if you pacify the Hui people and then impede their religious practice, would it be possible to convert them to Buddhism, and have them bow and pray before the lamas? Now that the empire is at peace, make things run the way they are. Forcing them to assimilate is definitely not practical.”[3]

USA & Australia

This period saw the first known publication of an anti-slavery text in the future USA by Samuel Sewall in 1700.  In The Selling of Joseph (1700), he came out strongly against slavery, making him one of the earliest colonial abolitionists.  Sewell argued, “Liberty is in real value next unto Life: None ought to part with it themselves, or deprive others of it, but upon the most mature Consideration.”[4]  The first permanent European settlement of Louisiana occurred in 1699 (now in Mississippi) but the first European explorers had arrived in 1528 in a previous Libra period – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – November 1537).

Some major discoveries of Australia’s western coastline during this Libra period was made by William Dampier (c.1651 – 1715).  In 1699 Dampier voyaged to New Holland (Australia) and though he was commissioned to explore the east coast, he actually arrived on the west coast (Western Australia) and then travel north, ending up in Timor and also explored the north coast of New Guinea.  His navigational prowess aided later voyages by James Cook and Horatio Nelson and his notes of the flora and fauna was read by Joseph Banks who later became the naturalists on some of Cook’s voyages.  Dampier’s’ voyages influenced a number of novels including Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s Travels and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and he believed to be the first to write in English the words “barbecue”, “avocado”, “chopsticks” and “sub-species” plus first recorded the recipes for guacamole and mango chutney.[5]

Females & Witches

With Libra’s female focus, the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials (1692 – 1693) accused more than 200 people of witchcraft with 30 found guilty, 19 were executed by hanging (14 women and five men). One other man was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of colonial North America. Only fourteen other women and two men had been executed in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the 17th century.  The after effects of these trials at least produced the pertinent insight that:

“it were better that one hundred Witches should live, than that one person be put to death for a witch, which is not a Witch” [6]

This shattered the ideal of theocracy in North America based on governments supposedly having God at its head – similar to the aims of ISIS (ISIL) in the early 21st century. Samuel Sewall was one of the judges of the Salem witch trials but later retracted his position and publicly acknowledged his guilt and expressed contrition for condemning the witches on trial.

The Scottish Paisley witches were tried in 1697 after the young daughter of the Laird of Bargarran, complained of being tormented by some local witches – which included one of her family’s servants, whom she had reported after witnessing her steal a drink of milk.  Seven people were found guilty of having bewitched Shaw and were condemned to death – the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe.  Shortly afterwards the former Scottish Secretary of State stated that:

“the parliaments of France and other judicatories who are persuaded of the being of witches never try them now because of the experience they have had that it’s impossible to distinguish possession from nature in disorder”.[7]

These witchcraft trials represent the ending phase of the persecution of mainly (Libra) females as witches, and any Libra period will promote positive or negative events associated with women.

The Arts

The Relapse, (also known as Virtue in Danger) was a Restoration comedy from 1696. This play is a sequel to Colley Cibber’s Love’s Last Shift where a free-living Restoration rake is brought to repentance and reform by the ruses of his wife, while in The Relapse, the rake succumbs again to temptation and has a new love affair while his virtuous wife is also subjected to a determined seduction attempt, and resists with difficulty. In the 18th century, the prevailing tolerant attitude towards actual and attempted adultery gradually became unacceptable, and the original play was for a century replaced on the stage by a moralized version A Trip to Scarborough. On the modern stage, The Relapse has been established as one of the most popular Restoration comedies.  The Libra connection is obvious.

William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World was first performed in London in 1700.  It is widely regarded as one of the best Restoration comedies, initially however, the play struck many audience members as continuing the immorality of the previous decades, and was not well received. In 1700, the world of London theatre-going had changed significantly because Charles II jubilant court, that had reveled in its licentiousness and opulence, had been replaced by the far more dour and utilitarian Dutch-inspired court of William of Orange –  a military king who was reported to be hostile to drama.

One of the features of a Restoration comedy is the (Libra) opposition of the witty and courtly (and Cavalier) rake and the dull-witted man of business or the country bumpkin, who is understood to be not only unsophisticated but often either Puritan or another form of dissenter. In 1685, the courtly and Cavalier side was in power, and Restoration comedies belittled the bland and foolish losers of the Restoration. However, by 1700, the other side was ascendant.

The Way of the World’s recreation of the older Restoration comedy’s patterns is only one of the things that made the play unusual.  The 1688 revolution concerning the overthrow of James II created a new set of social codes primarily amongst the bourgeoisie – their rise can be attributed to the newly arrived Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) bringing wealth and a growing middle class. The new capitalist system meant an increasing emphasis on property and property law. Thus, the play is packed with (Libra) legal jargon and financial and (Libra) marital contracts. These new (Libra) legal aspects allowed some female characters to secure their freedom through an equitable trust and for equality in marriage through a prenuptial agreement.[8]

Also appropriately for this Libra period, The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 by Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695), a semi-opera and a “Restoration spectacular”. The libretto is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Purcell works were a uniquely English form of Baroque music and he is considered to be the greatest English composer up until the 20th century.  Five of his most notable seven works were composed during this Libra period.  Though not commonly known, his music has been widely applied in the 20th century. He composed an anthem and two elegies for Queen Mary II’s funeral which provided the title music of the 1971 film by Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange. Pete Townsend of The Who states that Purcell was an influence in their music including the introduction to Pinball Wizard as was the case with the Pet Shop Boys.  Purcell’s compositions also found their way into the movie Kramer vs. Kramer, the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, and the German-language 2004 movie, Downfall to name a few. He died in 1695 during this Libra period at the height of his fame.[9]

Some eponymous female characters appeared in this Libra period when in 1697 the French writer Charles Perrault published Mother Goose tales, a collection of popular fairy tales, including Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and The Sleeping Beauty.  Libra’s aesthetic side was on display in 1693 when the first known form of eau de Cologne was created. In 1700, an inventory made for the Medici family of Florence contains the first documented evidence of a piano, invented by their instrument keeper Bartolomeo Cristofori.

Conclusion

The precursor of the two 20th century world wars but with France the protagonist against most other European powers indicates that Libra is not shy when it comes to major conflicts.  Such was the atmosphere of conflict that William Penn introduced the concept of a united Europe which had to wait until the arrival of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) to see this dream manifest as a partial reality with the creation of the European Union.  On the other side of the world, China was turning towards religious toleration for its Muslim subjects and newly arrived Christians.  The earliest anti-slavery text in North America highlights a very early example of the precursor to the Black Lives Matter movement but the author was complicit at the infamous Salem witch trials again demonstrate the active persecution of mainly women and this same period saw the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe following the Scottish Paisley witch trials.  The turning point for the persecution of witches seems to have occurred with this Libra period.  Australia also continued getting attention under Libra with much of the remaining uncharted coastline of north west of Australia mapped by William Dampier while in North America, Louisiana was first settled.

Marital comedies with relevant social issues were the rage with The Relapse and William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World. The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 and the first appearances of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty brought the world these very famous female characters.  The appearance of eau de Cologne and the first known piano cements this period to archetypes belonging to Libra.

Macro-Astrology Ephemeris Version 7

Macro-Astrology Ephemeris version 7.1 20 August 2020

Quasi-Ages and Quasi-Age Decans

Micro-Ages since the beginning of the Age of Aquarius

The above is the first major update of my macro-astrology ephemeris in seven years, which does not much affect plus or minus one thousand years or so from the present, but makes a significant effect outside those dates.  For my previous version 6 ephemeris, I exclusively used a formula called Rigorous Precession that takes into account fluctuation in precession due to the Moon’s gravitational effect upon Earth, and while this provides a better estimate for precession of the equinoxes in real-time, it has a built-in ‘error’.  For example, in version 6, I had the age of Pisces commence in 732 BC, but version 7, the age of Pisces begins in 715 BC – a difference of 17 years.  The situation exponentially deteriorates the further away from the present is examined.  In version 6, the Virgo age commenced in 14,153 BC, while version 7 has the Virgo age commence in 13,601 BC – a difference of 552 years. There will continue to be errors in version 7, as it is linear, whereas precession of the equinoxes is an erratic movement at the smallest possible level of observation.  Version 7 standardizes each age to between 2147 and 2148 years, whereas in reality, each age is slightly shorter compared to the previous age.  The main reason for this shortening is that the Moon is slowly but steadily getting further away from Earth, and this creates a dynamic change in precession.  However, I believe that version 7 is far less inaccurate compared to the previous version 6.

I first created version 7 on 25th July 2020, but I had to further tweak it by 7th August 2020 and create version 7.1.  At some stage, hopefully, an astronomer will provide improved calculations. There remains one minor discrepancy inasmuch, independent of this largescale ephemeris, I also use a nano-age ephemeris with nano-ages only being some 15 months each, and pica ages of 5 weeks.  Version 7 indicates that the coming Taurus micro-age arrives in 2029, but my nano-age ephemeris has this same micro-age commencing in January 2030.  However, the error involved is only around one month.

The above does not include the very important overflow periods, and if the overflow periods are not taken into account, a distorted perspective is achieved. The overflow periods never apply to quasi periods, but does apply to all other periods such as the ages, age-decans, sub-ages, sub-age decans and micro-ages displayed above, each period has an overflow into the following period of the exact same length.  For example, the Age of Pisces (715 BC – 1433 AD) overflows onto the Age of Aquarius (1433 AD – 3581 AD) and the manifestation of Pisces archetypes in world affairs will be stronger in the Age of Aquarius than its own age – especially in the first half of the Age of Aquarius associated with the overlapping Pisces quasi-age (359 AD – 2503 AD).  Currently, the world is in the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3581 AD), Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3581 AD) and Pisces quasi-age (359 AD – 2503 AD).  Even this brief analysis suggests that while Aquarius has been manifesting in the world since 1433, its manifestation remains in second place to the ongoing influence of Pisces – the sign of corporations, religions and medievalism.

A Glimmer of the Future?

Many people are currently feeling frustrated at the general state of the world, what with politicians refusing to provide leadership and especially over the devastation of the world’s environment.  There are many reasons for this frustration, and a lack of knowledge of history plays a part, but we should get a glimmer of the distant future over the next decade, especially in the second half (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) though for the astute observer, formative embryonic developments can pop up anytime from now on – and two possible examples may have already occurred.

Does the astrology of the future paint a nicer picture compared to the present?  This can be easily answered by track record.  The track record since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD indicates that massive improvement in the quality of life by the majority of people has occurred – but as a rule of thumb only.  More hundreds of millions of people than we can accurately estimate have in the same period experienced pitiful and terrible lives, with many cut short due to lack of adequate health care, famine, premature death or serious injury from war and so on. Things are getting better, but this in no way has led to a perfect world, or a world anywhere near perfect.

Though the future should be better, the future is slow to arrive, which is very frustrating in a period of time when Gemini[1] is so strong in the world, and getting stronger – because under Gemini, everyone wants everything now!  Not only are you not going to get everything now, you are most likely not going to see in your lifetime what you would like to see, though most Millennials and later generations will see some real progress or tangible results in tackling Climate Change.

In Year 587 of the Age of Aquarius (1433AD – 3574AD), the world is entering a new dawn or mini epoch (that occurs every 5 years or so).  December 2019 marked a number of fundamental changes involving five-year micro-age decans.  Decans, in general, are powerful in the astrological ages.  This applies to age-decans (approx. every 715 years), sub-age decans (approx. every 59-60 years) and micro-age decans (approx. every 5 years).  Even the humble nano-age decan lasting 5 months has clout, especially when associated with the stock market.

The Aquarius micro-age decan concluded in December 2019 – which covers the exact same period as the Cancer micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019), and an alternate way of describing these 5 years is to label it the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan.  This doubling up applies to all periods in the astrological ages, taking into account that the first of the two signs is always the most powerful.  [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for more details]  Therefore, the biggest development in December 2019 was the shift from the Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan, with the emphasis on Cancer, to the Aquarius-Libra micro-age decan with the emphasis on Aquarius.  This promotion of Aquarius to the detriment of Cancer over the coming 5 years will increase the radicalization of society and promotion of fringe politics we have experienced over the last 5 years to an even higher level or greater intensity.  There will also be far greater grass-root movements to continue the push for equitable outcomes in an array of areas as there are just so many issues that contemporary society and politics inadequately handle. [see This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan for more details].

The current radicalization and growth in fringe politics is nowhere near as strong as the last time Aquarius strongly manifested in the world under the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) – so this time around we tend to get neo-fascists and hard-right politicians rather than fully-fledged fascists such as Adolph Hitler, Mussolini and Franco in the 1920s and 30s – Stalin can also be added to the list of tyrants.  However, the near future is not just more of the same ramped up to a higher level (Trump, Brexit, and the many secondary neo-fascists leaders that have been popping up around the world recently) because a new element arrived in December 2019 – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) – see Table 1 below.

Table 1 The Cancer-Gemini micro-age (December 2014 – November 2029)

This will be a powerful period for Libra due to its resonance with the massive Libra age-decan (1433 – 2148) of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3574) and strongly supported by the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) (see table 2 below).  The next 10 years of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow is the real inauguration of the current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) as this is the strongest manifestation of Libra since the Libra sub-age commenced in 1970.  This can be labeled as the ‘christening’ of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148).  Like Venus in the night sky, it should be something to behold.

Table 2 The Age of Aquarius with its age-decans and overflows

When the Libra age-decan (1433-2148) and Libra sub-age (1970-2148) both enter their respective overflow periods commencing in 2148, a very different world will exist compared to what we take as normal today, due to the nature of Libra – a natural benefic influence, by and large.  It is Libra that brings confidence to the expectation that the world will not only continue forward as it has done since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, but also have an opportunity to take some more steps toward a more harmonious and even garden-like state compared to smokestacks and car exhausts filling up the atmosphere with noxious pollutants while governments spend trillions on weapons of mass destruction.  Our current plight is another example of our medieval world we have inherited from the Pisces age overflow [see the Myth of Modernity for more details]

This new Libran world will not be heaven on Earth or paradise for a number of reasons – the main reason being that humanity will continue its ongoing medieval momentum for at least another 1,500 to 2,000 years – albeit at a lower intensity compared to 2019. If you want to examine the ratio of modernity to medievalism, examine the period from the beginning of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 to now, and see the slow but steady development of modern society as it slowly displaced some of the vestiges of the medieval side of society.  For example, it still took around 300 to 400 years before starvation was mainly eradicated in Europe (though the Irish Potato famine extended this another century or so).  It took around 500 years for women to get the vote in western society.  The LGBT community has only recently been liberated, and even this is not yet universal in all western nations.  Change happens much slower than people realize, especially for people with a progressive outlook. But the overall trend remains – the world is progressing forward for the better, but this does not mean what is better is always triumphing over its opposite.

My educated guess is that contemporary western society is about 75% medieval and 25% modern (except for technology) – which reflects the power balance between the Pisces age overflow (1433– 3574) promoting medievalism and the up and coming Aquarius age (1433 -3574) promoting rationality. Though we have experienced some major throwbacks to medievalism over the last 500 years, these throwbacks are the aberration, as the worldwide tide under the Age of Aquarius is towards progressiveness and liberalism over the medium and long term – but not necessarily in the short term.  At any turn, medieval Pisces can bite, and bite savagely such as the Spanish Inquisition, Hitler’s Third Reich, communist oppression, the USA’s history of overthrowing democratic countries not towing the American line and so on as some major examples only.  The inadequate response to Climate Change can be considered another bite of the apple by medieval Pisces.

What can we expect from Libra? Libra likes parties, social events, women, art, gardens, the color green, compromises, armistices, peace and peace treaties as a few major archetypes.[2]  Libra prefers equity or the middle path over extremism! Libra is also associated with the Far East which includes China, Indo-China, Japan and immediate surrounding countries though Libra is not the primary sign for most of these countries.  For example, China’s strongest sign is Cancer, while Japan is Scorpio, but the (Libra) Far East provides the counterbalance to the (Aries) West.  Historically, China has nearly always surpassed (Aries) Europeans and all other parts of the world in nearly everything, and the recent rise of China is merely China returning to its natural state in world affairs.  It has an extremely bad track record in maintaining a stable government but continues to exist regardless.

Not everything associated with Libra is positive, as all 12 zodiacal signs are associated with positive and negative archetypes.  Libra is indecisive, so when action is needed on Climate Change, there is no mobilization of the necessary forces and resources countries would usually rely upon say, in times of war.  You can also expect under Libra a slowdown, if not a retreat, in countries trying to outdo each other in building the tallest building – as engineering belongs to Aries – the opposite sign to Libra. Libra rules sugar (and carbohydrates) and so we are seeing this manifest in the world in the obesity and diabetes epidemic.  People want to party hard, and this also fuels the rise of party drugs.  Finally, Libra is associated with immaturity, and we are probably witnessing this global immaturity on exponential growth curve, but music will be playing and the alcohol will be flowing.  At the end of the day, the world under Libra is like a girl that “justs wanna have fun”!

However, there is a very dark side to Libra (as with all zodiacal signs).  Some of the greatest wars have occurred under Libra, as Libra rules opposition and major irreconcilable polarities.  In horoscopic astrology, the appearance of Libra, its ruler Venus or the 7th house (Libra’s natural house) can all engender the formation of a major relationship, marriage, or business partnership, but it can also rule divorce, often acrimoniously, or the breakup of partnerships.  Libra will also focus upon open opposition, and a brief examination of its role in previous incarnations will demonstrate its highly destructive side.

The last Libra period of a note (ie larger than a 15-month nano-age that appears approximately every 15 years) was the Libra micro-age decan (1910-15) followed by the more potent Libra micro-age decan overflow (1915-20) of the Aquarius micro-age (1910–25).  The First World War (1914–18) fits amazingly well into the peak of Libra coinciding with its overflow.  This was not a time of peace but war and its aftermath of destruction including a pandemic that killed more people in the world than the First World War.

The 18th century Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1856 -61-66) produced in its second and more powerful half the American Civil War (1861-65) which strongly suggests that Aries plays an active role in the gun-toting American culture. The Libra micro-age decan overflow (1861-66) cannot be solely blamed for the Civil War, as this Libra period was within the potent Cancer sub-age decan overflow (1851-1910) of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 2148) and Cancer is opposite Capricorn – a key sign in the astrological signature for the USA that the Puritans brought with them to America.

The earlier Libra micro-age and overflow (1791-1806-1821) again captures the devastating Napoleonic Wars (1803 – 1815) mainly in the more potent second part.  The Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1746-51-56) saw the Seven Years’ War (1756-63) which included in the American theater the French and Indian War (1754 – 1763).  This international war is considered by some to have the status of a world war and precursor of the two world wars of the 20th century.  The world was learning how to produce world wars.

The even earlier Libra micro-age decan and overflow (1692-1697-1702) finds the beginning of another major European conflict – the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714) which resulted in Britain’s rise as the leading European power with the simultaneous decline of the Dutch Republic.  The American theater of this was Queen Anne’s War (1702 -1713) as a precursor to the French and Indian War.

The correlation between major historical wars and Libra micro-age decans or micro-ages is too strong to ignore, and so it must be assumed that of the many disagreements currently existing around the world,  a new period of open conflict is not only possible but highly likely.  Taking into account that the previous major Libra conflicts were all associated with the major powers of the times, any conflict associated with the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow, especially roughly associated with the second half or overflow period, will most likely involve the major power brokers of today’s world.

Therefore, we can assume that the relationship between the USA and China, with or without the involvement of Europeans (on the American side) and Russia (on the Chinese side) with Middle Eastern states probably involved – cannot be ruled out. The big question is really the nature of the conflict?  Will it translate into actual hostilities, or will it be an economic war or proxy wars?  Regardless, we must allow for a major conflict at the upper echelon of world powers above and beyond the normal petty conflicts we have periodically experienced since the end of the Second World War.

Doomsday people will go for a world war, but a Libra period will not produce a world war without major resonance with a stronger period.  The First and Second World Wars occurred in the Pisces sub-age decan overflow (1910 – 1970) that was particularly strong in the first half (1910-1940).  This Pisces sub-age decan overflow resonated with the strongest sign in the world – the Pisces age-overflow (1433-3574) and this Pisces sub-age decan overflow represents the strongest manifestation of Pisces in the world which will not be replicated for around another 25,000 years.  The period 1910 to 1940 was an incredibly powerful cauldron.  The current Libra micro-age decan and overflow sits under the Scorpio sub-age decan overflow (1970 – 2029) and while Scorpio can be a savage sign, it is not anywhere near as comparable to the period 1910 to 1940.  Without the cauldron of the early 20th century, it is unlikely we will see a world war in the coming decade, but we must be prepared for some major conflagration or international discord above and beyond ‘normal’.

We will only be witnessing the glimmer of the distant Libra future over the next 10 years as the world is a long way away from such a dominant Libra reality – as this is reserved for the second half of the next century onward.  Everyone will not be dressed up as young girls partying with ecstasy, as both the positive and negative sides of Libra will manifest.  At the sharp edge of Libra is its quest for justice, equity, beauty and harmony, such as the mythical Garden of Eden, and it is no surprise that the Greens will benefit under Libra.  Though other Libra areas should not be ignored, it is probably the growth of the Green Movement and environmentalists that will provide the greatest focus over the next 10 years but it is important to take note of all Libra archetypes if you are searching for it in world affairs over the coming decade.  At the penultimate alternate festival in Australia straddling the 2020 New Year, their theme was appropriately “imagining a beautiful future.”[3]

It is much better to focus on solutions than problems, and one reason why so many people seem so down and depressed is that they are focusing on the problems – ‘you grow like the company you keep’.  The world has always had problems, and regularly very big problems.  People go to what they focus on – so it is better to take note of all the positive buds or new Libra plants that have been sprouting over the decades which will contribute to a better but imperfect world.  Of course, the message from the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2148), especially in the first half, is that security and strength will not be found in the world, and if you are looking for these qualities, it is necessary to search within, as the inner world is ruled by Scorpio.  Looking for strength and security in the outer world is usually a case of chasing straws, and this is even magnified more in our current world with Scorpio ‘peaking’.  Hopefully, Scorpio will not invoke any more use of nuclear weapons in the coming conflict, but this cannot be ruled out, especially until 2059, at which point Scorpio drops in intensity as the Scorpio quasi sub-age decan (1881 – 2059) concludes (see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details on quasi periods)

The solution to the major problems in the world will not come from anything other than more people being conscious and wanting more action on equity – especially involving the environment.  Very few people make major changes to their belief systems or outlooks after the age of 25 years.  It will be each new generational

Greta Thunberg as representative of the Gemini quasi sub-age (2000-2059) and Gemini youth

crop that comes along with a far greater focus on climate change and equitable outcomes that will make the difference in the world.  This has been occurring since the appearance of the (Libra) peace Movement in the 1960s.  It now seems to be accelerating with the likes of Greta Thunberg sitting atop the iceberg of youthful climate activism and harnessing the youthful momentum of the Gemini sub-age and overflow (1970-2029-2088), especially in the years from 2029 onward.

An excellent calibrator for the coming change is the percentage of the population that votes Green.  In my country, I have watched the Green vote go from around 5% in the 1980s to 10% to 12% recently.  Based on the interaction of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791–1970-2148) with the Libra sub-age and overflow (1970–2148–2327) – the critical demarcation point this century is the year 2059 – the fulcrum point between the Scorpio quasi-age and Libra quasi-age.  Scorpio is focused upon pollution and destruction – it is not a peaceful stable sign., but it also can result in a rebirth or renewal.  Though it has brought nuclear bombs, tyrants and major destructive revolutions such as the communist revolution which just created even worse tyrants than existed previously and murdered millions of people in the process, it can also regenerate.  Fortunately for the future, the addition of Libra is not normally a sign of violence or destruction.

However, many countries have democratic political systems that prevent or limit the influence of the Green movement.  Two excellent examples are the USA and UK, which while nominally democratic, are extremely reticent in apportioning political influence to minor parties due to the gerrymander-style of democracy they have produced.  Most institutions are conservative, so it should come as no surprise that the USA and UK so-called democratic governments favor conservative elements and conservative structures that prevent or severely limit significant fringe views such as the Greens.  The members of the upper house in the UK are not even elected, while the upper house in the USA, the Senate, basically avoids giving voice to significant minorities by only allowing two senators per state which mostly only represents the two major parties.  Both instances grossly distort democracy.  This undemocratic reality is like racism, no one admits to it.

Nevertheless, despite the delusion of democracy in western society, the delusion of democracy is better than any other system going.  Under democracy, we are forced to work with the lowest common denominator in the political arena, and so the dictatorship of the proletariat basically decides the political direction – Trump in the USA and Brexit in the UK are good examples of the proletariat in action.  Under the first half of the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 14 Dec19-Nov 24) the proletariat is not happy with what (Leo) mainstream politics has given to them as they feel they have been ignored for decades – because they have.

If this was a permanent state of affairs, the world would probably not make it through the next century.  Fortunately, there is an evolution in progress in western society, and the astrology of the astrological ages indicates that the hippies and peace movement of the 1960s and 70s has provided the ethos for the revolution of our times – and it is a non-violent revolution due to the growing strength of peaceful Libra.  This evolution will make a big jump forward in 2059 when the fulcrum point between Scorpio and Libra occurs.  My estimate is that by 2059, 20% of western voters will be solid Green voters, and it will be 50% by the middle of the following 22nd century.  The violent revolutions of the previous two centuries occurred under Scorpio when monarchies around the world were overthrown and replaced by democracies, communism or dictators.

While the Green vote hitting 20% by 2059 may seem insignificant, 20% is the tipping point – once the support for something hits 20%, it is able to make major shifts in politics and society beyond the scope of their size.  However, most of us will not see 2059, but we do get to see the budding and growth of the Green Evolution.

Like all other movements or political parties, the Green evolution and associated politics will definitely not be perfect – far from it.  What is happening is that the current highly imperfect political system orientated towards the rich cannot deal with climate change and other ills of the world effectively.  They will be replaced by another slightly less imperfect system that despite its imperfections, can address to a higher degree the major issues of our times.  Western society has already experienced three major revolutions/evolutions since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433, and the Peace and Green Movement is the fourth one and the one for our times – for better or worse.  In centuries to come, it will also be ‘overthrown’ – due to the many imperfections that will prevent it from dealing with the issues of the future centuries. [see Is Western Society Due Another Revolution? ]

The rise of this new movement and political entity will not wipe out western society as we know it today.  Nearly all elements will remain such as imperfect democracies, corporations, rich and poor, war and conflict and so on, but kind of limited, put into their place, or not so freely allowed to create utter chaos such as extreme capitalism has done to the world’s environment.  The world has already rejected extreme socialism in the form of communism and just needs to also reject extreme capitalism currently strongly promoted by most conservative western governments with the unconscious support of their proletariats.  Libra promotes a balance, not a wipeout.  Furthermore, the medieval influence in western society will remain quite strong until at least 2500 AD, and even then, will continue on for almost another 2,000 years.  People will not let go of their belief systems but are like birds in a cage with the door open – but unwilling to fly out to their freedom.  The Green Movement also reeks of belief systems, just like the rest of society.  This is why the Green Movement will also have an expiry date as belief systems are more static and find difficulty adapting to changed circumstances.  The recent worldwide mainly religious-based pedophile scandal is a good example of inflexible belief systems hitting reality and is an excellent example of how medieval the world remains., but it is being slowly and surely chipped away over the centuries.

So what we get in the Libra micro-age decan and overflow over the next decade is a homeopathic taste of the future that most of us will not be alive to see.  If you solely focus on the stupidity of the world, you will merely continue to get depressed.  Look for positive archetypes associated with Libra – the momentum towards environmental justice and equity in general evoked by the Statute of Liberty – but currently mainly superficial and not yet fully manifested.  It is also important to acknowledge the good that has been developed in western society over the last 500 years or so, as the only reason we are able to live and exist the way we do is due to the momentum of progress and liberal democracy over these 5 centuries.  This is awesome (except for those hundreds of millions that were killed, displaced, persecuted or lived in poverty).

The Green and Peace Movements are a continuation of a very long process that was unleashed on an unsuspecting world when the Age of Aquarius arrived in 1433 AD and will stretch for thousands of years. Anything of substance seems to have a long germination process.  Most of us alive today will only get to witness the germination of the new major evolution of western society which will effectively address Climate Change ultimately – plus some other inequities in society and politics such as the rich getting richer while the rest stagnate  It is later generations that will get the major benefits. This does not mean that many other countries not part of western society will not do their share, but for the most part, ever since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, the rest of the world has followed the lead of western society.  It hasn’t always been western society at the lead, nor will it always be in the future.  The dice of the astrological ages seems to randomly select a different region to be new ‘leaders’.  In the future, it may just select diffident groups within a homogenous worldwide society that is the likely outcome and end result of the Age of Aquarius?

There are already two possible manifestations of Libra that may have already raised its head.  Firstly, on the 20th December 2019, the Dutch Supreme Court ruled that the state must reduce its CO2 emissions.  It is claimed that due to this landmark court ruling, climate action is now inseparable from human rights.  The decision was based on Articles 2 and 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights which creates obligations for states to protect their citizens against dangerous climate change setting an international precedent.[4]  It is unlikely that this judgment will make any critical change for the better but at least it is a small step in the right direction.  Law courts are ruled by Libra which is why you will often see a statue of the ancient goddess of justice holding a balance in front of major law courts.  This is probably just a small part of the opening salvo from Libra.

Secondly, the authorization by President Trump of the killing of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani near Baghdad Airport on January 3 2020 indicates an increase in aggression by the US against Iran – its major foe in the Middle East.  This is seen by most as an escalation of tensions and therefore conforms to the appearance of the Libra micro-age decan.  The war-addicted USA may make an Iran conflict the catalyst for the next major international conflagration?

So in conclusion, the next 10 years is not just about the first significant manifestation of Libra since 1915-20, but also a foretaste or glimpse of our future world.  While on the one hand, serious steps towards greater liberal democratic and green policies will certainly occur, the wildcard is major conflict. In the meantime, the same is playing out for Aquarius, because December 2019 to November 2024 is also the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow and will provide an insight for the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) that will also have a very profound influence upon the world later this century.  Even most Millennials will not see Aquarius in full flight later this century.  The real christening of the Age of Aquarius will occur in the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029-2088-2148) – the strongest manifestation of Aquarius since the inception of the Age of Aquarius in 1433. It will really be something for our collectove descendants to behold.

The Future Has Changed

While preparing one of my recent blog[1] and video The Myth of Modernity, I gained a deeper insight into the interface between the Age of Pisces with the Age of Aquarius.  Many astrologers have, for many decades, drawn the conclusion that the world is currently at the cusp of the Ages of Pisces and Aquarius, and that the influences of these two ages combine in the world today.  On a simplistic level, they take the ongoing strength of (Pisces) religions combined with some of the trapping of Aquarius such as democracy, technology, flight, computers and so an as proof that we are experiencing this cusp.

While this approach is very popular, it is only half correct, but half correct is better than a random incorrect guess.  The world is on the cusp of ages, but these nebulous cups can only come into effect once the new age begins.  For example, 100 years before the end of the Age of Pisces, as with 50 years, 5 years or 5 months, there is no Aquarius hanging around.  But as soon as the Age of Aquarius begins, the momentum from the Pisces age overflows onto the new Age of Aquarius and the archetypes associated with Pisces and Aquarius co-mingles.  This occurs at the cusp of all ages and sub-periods of the ages such as age-decans, sub-ages and so on and the term I use is the Overflow Effect. [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies ]

I first discovered this Overflow Effect in 1987, and until very recently, I had understood that as each century passes in the new Age of Aquarius, the influence of Aquarius ‘grows’ while the lingering influence from Pisces ‘shrinks’!  But this is overly simplistic and turns out to be not the case, because while the Aquarius influence definitely grows, so does the Pisces influence.  This means that in 2019 and 2020, Pisces remains on a growth curve along with Aquarius.  This is important to take into account, because for at least the first half of the Age of Aquarius, not only will Pisces be growing, it is possibly be growing even faster than Aquarius – and this will continue until at least 2503 AD – the midpoint of the Age of Aquarius.

What does this mean in reality?  It means that for all societies, countries, regions and so on, people will often be more attracted to Pisces archetypes than Aquarius archetypes.  Since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD, society has definitely been attracted to (Aquarius) technological advances, and such was the unprecedented developments and discoveries in science and technology, it was called the Scientific Revolution – which commenced no later than 1543[2] based on the works of Copernicus.

Copernicus was the first accepted authority in modern times that the Sun and planets did not orbit the Earth but the Earth orbited the Sun and was subordinate to it.  This was heresy in the day, as humans traditionally take the point of view that they are superior and above everything else, so if we live on Earth – Earth must be the center of the universe.  Heretical scientists were executed for rejecting the ego-centric Earth-centered universe but this did not affect Copernicus as he died of old age the day he received the first copy of his book from the printers.   Scientists are again being treated as heretics with regard to Climate Change.

Nevertheless, despite some early supporters being executed or punished, Aquarius scientific developments picked up speed over the succeeding centuries leading to the technological marvel of the modern world.  Without going into detail, after similar early experimentation with democracy, democracy of one form or another became entrenched in most western nations by the second half of the 20th century.  However, the gradual drift towards democracy met with the normal medieval suppression, persecutions and condemnation which remain widespread today in the ‘modern’ world that remains firmly bedded on medieval outlooks.

The reason why I state that the future has changed is that those forces aligned to (Pisces) medievalism that prefer suppression and persecution of scientific and liberal supporters are not withering on the vine and dying off, but are also getting stronger and more influential.  Previously, I had not taken this into account, but with some recent giant backward steps toward medievalism in a number of leading western countries with the election of a veritable grifter to the US presidency and the electoral win by Brexiters in the UK, it can no longer be assumed that anything that aligns to Aquarius will be favored, and anything aligned to Pisces will be subjugated by Aquarius at our early stage in the Age of Aquarius.

It is highly instructive at this point to examine some key Pisces archetypes followed by key Aquarius archetypes.  Pisces is orientated to large bureaucratic organization such as corporations and religions. The Roman Catholic Church virtually pioneered corporations combining both corporations and religions commencing around the 4th century AD.  Corporations are ‘fake’ bodies, and anything that is fake is associated with Pisces – such as fake news.  Pisces strongly promotes fake news, as with politicians and business people that employ lies, deceit and distortion to convince a gullible general public, as “gullibility” is also in the Pisces camp.  Pisces does not produce a knowledgeable electorate. Pisces prefer belief systems over facts or rationality as was the case in medieval times.

Pisces also loves economic bubbles with investors partaking in mob behavior intent upon paying ridiculously high prices based purely on its future price rather than the fundamentals backing the “asset”.  Naturally, Pisces likes products like Bitcoin which has no intrinsic value at all – just a demand-driven value.   Pisces is the mob, and anyone who has encountered a mob will quickly realize that the mob does not respond to common sense and rationality, but will respond to the thrill of being part of the mob (or tribe) with its primal intensity.  Fascism depends upon the mob.

Pisces does have a heart, and would like to save people from hell, and can even provide charity to the poor and downtrodden, and spiritual succor to those seeking a living connection to a higher cause through religious practices.  It likes heavenly and earthly paradises and was very fond of Pacific islands but is also attracted to apocalypses and the end of the world or at least everything in it, as Pisces rules endings. Pisces does provide excellent music, dancing and drama and so is at one with Hollywood, Bollywood and all forms of entertainment that promote fiction and fantasy or just the simple pleasure entertainment can provide.

Aquarius is a totally different animal, and while Pisces is emotionally or feeling orientated, being a water sign, in contrast, Aquarius is intellectually orientated being an air sign.  This is why Aquarius is thrilled by scientific discoveries, technology and a sense of fairness that translated to liberalism and democracy.  It was only after Gutenberg invented his printing press around 1436[3] (only three years inside the Age of Aquarius), that the proliferation of intellectual ideas and inquiry took off as suddenly, many people began to have access to books that were previously only copied extremely slowly by hand.  But what (Pisces) masterpieces the hand-copied manuscripts were with Pisces ruling the fine arts.

However, the Pisces and Aquarius ages are not iconoclastic but are forced to mix in their environment.  When Aquarius gets fused to Pisces, it has produce fascism, and as an example only, many tens of millions of people were slaughtered in the 20th century due to the Nazi’s lofty (Pisces) ideal of a thousand years of peace – but unfortunately, if you had the wrong ethnicity, skin color or a different lifestyle such as being a gypsy, gay or a trade unionist – it would be arranged for you to be terminated.  Fascists usually have a ‘magnetic’ or populace leader who can ‘electrify’ their supporters and excite them like a frenzied mob.  Anything exciting is usually associated with Aquarius (as is electricity and magnetism).

This 20th-century fusion of Pisces and Aquarius called fascism creates some consternation for many people as the average person does not understand what fascism actually is.  Basically, fascism is associated with anti-democratic sentiments, a powerful ruler with an agenda that usually includes the persecution of minorities, dissidents and those of alternate political persuasions and a favorite tool is to shame an opponent as unpatriotic.  Fascism is almost exactly identical to communism except for the economic system employed.  Fascists prefer capitalism while communists prefer socialism, but otherwise, their modus operandi is almost identical and both hate liberal democracy, equality and free-thinking.

The world is currently going through a mild resurgent neo-fascism phase again as the world is currently experiencing the strongest Aquarius sub-period within the Age of Aquarius since the last century.  The Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) is the most powerful manifestation of Aquarius since the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940). That 20th century Aquarius micro-age and overflow also coincided with the high-point of Pisces peaking in 1910 in the center of the Pisces sub-age and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970).  This strong overlap between Pisces and Aquarius saw the decimation of (Pisces) Europe by both the (Pisces-Aquarius) communists and fascists.

For the sake of simplicity, I employ medievalism for Pisces and modernism for Aquarius but it is important to note that both signs comprise positive and negative archetypes, and it is questionable if one sign is intrinsically better or worse than any other sign.  However, the ‘growth’ of one sign does suggest the freshness of what is “new” as a positive connotation. Therefore anything associated with Aquarius belongs to the “new” camp while anything associated with Pisces represents the “old” or entrenched.  Basically, it was not a nice place back “there”.

Previously I had assumed that the ongoing struggle between Aquarius (modernity) and Pisces (medievalism) would see a tendency for Aquarius to “win” in any contemporary struggle.  This can no longer be taken for granted following the election of Donald Trump in the USA and confirmation in the recent UK election that the pro-Brexit forces should be able to proceed with Brexit unhindered by their ‘progressive’ opponents.  These significant developments in western society associated with the first significant Aquarius sub-period since the first part of the 20th century need to be acknowledged and understood.

The only mitigating factor that suggests we should hold our judgment on the current Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) is that we are at the mid-way point which provides the demarcation between the Cancer dominated Cancer-Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) and the Aquarius-Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is dominated by Aquarius.  Cancer promotes populace leaders, anti-government sentiment and emotional responses to political issues, with a retreat to the homeland strongly favored.  Cancer ceases to be prominent in 2020 onward, and Aquarius jumps up a gear.  Each side of politics will take advantage of this new reality, but it will be the extremists on both sides that “win” as Aquarius undermines the mainstream in favor of radicals and extremists.

On the progressive side of politics, progress is viewed as being much slower than progressives would like to acknowledge.  However, the 10% to 20% of people that are hardcore progressives do not really represent mainstream society any more than Donald Trump and his hardcore supporters.  The astrology associated with the Age of Aquarius suggests that what most progressives and climate change activists want, will not manifest until around midway next century.  Even at the most extreme positive view of the current century, it will take until around the year 2059 for 20% of western society to be ardent and hardcore climate change activists or at least vote for one!  A few years ago when Al Gore visited, he stated to the effect that:

‘Expected change comes far more slowly than expected, but once it does, it occurs far more quickly than expected’.

Most progressives I talk to don’t like this at all – but this is both the political and astrological reality. A good way to see how progress manifests from year to year is that, at best, 51% of new laws, government edicts and so on may favor modernist Aquarius, while 49% favor medieval Pisces.  Over the long term, this does result in the world changing towards the modern and rational – and the last five centuries proves this, but this change is still at a slow pace. Furthermore, the long-term preference toward modernity in the Age of Aquarius does not have to be reflected in the short term – and so at times, far more legal and societal preference can be toward medieval Pisces with modernist Aquarius ostracized such as we have recently experienced in the USA, UK and various other countries.

It is also important to realize that the progressive and conservative sides of politics are not focused only upon Aquarius modernity or Pisces medievalism.  Each side, along with all people, are affected by and attracted to archetypes associated with both signs.  A progressive group can employ medieval techniques, while a conservative group can employ modern or democratic techniques such as Trump’s son-in-law harnessing social media to get their message across to critical political battlegrounds.  Politics, as with the world, is not black and white, good or bad and so on.  Conservatives are not evil and progressives are not good.  Everyone, and all groups are a combination of both elements.

How the world moves ‘forward’ towards Aquarius modernity is somewhat like evolution. People, societies and governments do a whole range of things, some

“Peace in our Times” declared the UK prime minister just before the most disastrous war in history

good and some bad, and either side of politics will do both. However, over time, the ‘bad’ is overthrown or relegated to the dustbin of history, and the ‘good’ tends to survive – but not necessarily in the short term.  For example, in the UK, it will take some time for the British to discover if Brexit is good or bad in the same way when Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from Germany in 1938 and received a rowdy homecoming after signing a peace pact with Nazi Germany.

“Jubilation and waves of relief washed over London in a celebration that had not been seen since the armistice that silenced the guns of World War I.”[4]

In retrospect, this was one of the biggest disasters for the UK in close to a thousand years and almost saw them being invaded.  Unfortunately for the UK, the astrology of Brexit also indicates this is an unmitigated disaster and the British will have to discover this for themselves the hard way.[5]  The astrology indicates if it wasn’t Brexit, the British would have done something equally stupid, so it does seem kind of inevitable?  Perhaps if Brexit did not occur, the Atlantic Conveyor Belt may have been impacted by Climate Change with the average temperature in the UK dropping 10 degrees C?  If the sages are correct, perfection or anything near it cannot be experienced on Earth by us mere mortals anyway.

So in conclusion, the future has not really changed, but my understanding of it has.  No longer can it be assumed that the progressive side of politics has a substantial lead over the conservative side of politics as a fait accompli in any situation.  For frustrated progressives dismayed at the direction the world is heading, patience and an appreciation of historical cycles is required to understand that even contemporary western society has most of its fundamental values sourced from medievalism and most progressives employ medieval techniques to promote their message.

Furthermore, medievalism from both sides of politics will often triumph over modernity even after more than 500 years of the Age of Aquarius because the strongest sign in the Age of Aquarius is actually medieval Pisces!  It is better to understand the nature of medievalism to understand the modern world – which I refer to in my book[6] as the Age of Techno-Medievalism.  Our so-called modernity is a (Pisces) delusion (technology excepted).  As a simple example, scientists are again falling foul of medieval governments over Climate Change just as renaissance scientists were persecuted for claiming the Earth orbited the Sun.  Hey, but courtesy of Pisces and Aquarius, you can always binge on Netflix or Amazon Prime to drown your sorrows?

The Myth of Modernity

On an extremely elementary level, myth is associated with Pisces and modernity with Aquarius and this dichotomy provides the crux of not only this post, but the big-picture view of our world at large.  Though the world is currently in the Age of Aquarius, the overflow from the previous age of Pisces is even stronger – especially in the first half of the Age of Aquarius [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for details].  A more inclusive way to name the Age of Aquarius is the Pisces-Aquarius age, which followed the Aries-Pisces age (when Aries was more powerful than Pisces).  The combination of Pisces with Aquarius means that the influence of ‘myth’ from the Pisces age overflowing into the Aquarian age is greater than the influence of modernity even though modernity is easier to perceive – which is why most people live in the delusion that we are modern.

It is extremely easy to see modernity as it is represented by electricity, computers, technology, the internet, flight and the most widespread application of various forms and quality of democracy in the world to date – with most of this evidence tangible to the eye (with only democracy being the most nebulous item in this list).  Myth is a far more imprecise concept to deal with as it behaves like smoke and mirrors – what you perceive is not necessarily what exists if you can perceive anything at all!

Modernity is not a myth, the myth is that most people perceive that the world is modern without any qualification – an axiomatic situation.  Modernity may be the most noticeable game in town but Pisces’ myth and other Pisces’ associations are more influential in contemporary society and current affairs compared to Aquarius archetypes.  Modernity only plays the supporting role to myth, yet people believe modernity is the main focus.  This surreal situation is created by Pisces – the sign of delusion, illusion and vagueness overflowing into our ‘modern’ time.  Pisces is the branch we are all sitting upon as our reference point which, due to the nature of Pisces, we are generally unaware.  Furthermore, Pisces promotes medievalism – the name historians gave to that period before the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century.

What is medievalism?  There are a number of definitions and associations to medievalism, but in general terms, it refers to that period when there were knights in white shining armor, kings, lords, dukes, barons and so on ruled the lands either benevolently or ruthlessly via a system of feudalism that resembled slavery – another archetype belonging to Pisces.  It was a time when (Pisces) Christianity had an extremely strong influence in western society where the beliefs of individuals could be classified as heretical at the whim of the church followed by punishment of one form or another – including the possibility of execution.

A 13th-century French text representing the Medieval tripartite social order: those who pray (clerics), those who fight (knights from the nobility) and those who work (peasants and members of the lower middle class).

In medieval society, logical understanding and rationality took the back seat to knee-jerk reactions and decisions based on dogmatism, chauvinism and sectarianism rather than fact – similar to how many or most contemporary politicians and governments often operate today.  Facts were scarce in medieval times, and to fill the vacuum, beliefs filled the void.  The time of medievalism was known as “a period contrary to reason.”[i]  Anything different was generally feared, ostracized or condemned and very little accurate information was known about the laws of physics or science.  Society was marked by prejudices and taboos – females were considered inferior, and people could and would believe anything – just as many follow this pattern today.

The more correct term for the current Age of Aquarius is the Age of Pisces-Aquarius, and this indicates that while medievalism is supposedly finished, it actually has continued to exist and dominates society – though feudalism has disappeared.  Another difference between contemporary society and medieval society is that our society has made some progress in extracting itself from irrationality, but the main difference is our harnessing of technology since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century.  This is why historians claim that medievalism finished in the 15th century and was replaced by Early Modernity. Wikipedia states that Early Modernity, based on traditional historiography, arrived in 1453 – only 20 years after the arrival of the Age of Aquarius (or Pisces-Aquarius age).  Some historians claim Early Modernity arrived in 1436[ii] – displaying a scant three year error to the correct date.

Early Modernity led to Modernity around the 18th century but while historians and people, in general, congratulate themselves on modernity, this places the focus upon mainly technological developments and ignores the root medievalism that permeates contemporary western society.  Just consider that at the apex of modernity supposedly sits the USA – but about 25% of Americans refute the idea of evolution and the Big Bang about 13 billion years ago, and embrace a conception of the world that has existed for only about 6,000 years.  This is not the only example of contemporary medievalism.  A better description of western society since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century is that we live in the age of Techno-Medievalism.

There are so many examples of contemporary medievalism in society, and when we leave western society and examine Second and Third World countries – the medievalism jumps in magnitude. One easy way to see this is that in many Second and Third World countries, religious doctrine of one sort or another is written into law and enforceable by governments – with some ‘modern’ western countries also enforcing religious doctrines usually based on some fundamentalist Christian belief.  Another classic example is President Trump – irrational, often incoherent, appearing deceptive and deceitful but supported by a very large minority of voting Americans because he promises to support their values – with most of these values based on conservative belief systems sourced from medieval outlooks.

There is a very good reason why the USA embodies technological advances and democratic practices on the one hand, and atavistic belief systems with strong fundamentalist Christian overtones on the other.  The USA was settled by basically medieval Europeans who brought their medieval belief systems with them.  Europe continued to evolve, but their colonizing cousins who went to America held on to many of their medieval beliefs far longer than Europeans due to their ‘isolation’ from Europe.  Europe at that time was at the nexus for the cutting edge of progressive developments and European society moved on somewhat.  This is similar to what many 20th-century immigrants experienced when migrating from post-war Europe to the USA, Canada, Australia and so on.

For example, so many Greeks migrated to Melbourne, Australia after the Second World War that Melbourne was labeled the third largest Greek city in the world.  But when many of these Greek migrants eventually returned to Greece after many decades, they were shocked to find that the Greece culture they knew and kept alive in Melbourne no longer existed – as the Greeks in Greece had continued to evolve their culture.   I have heard similar stories about Pakistanis migrating to the UK.

Unless we recognize that we are not modern but live in the Age of Techno-Medievalism, we are deluding ourselves.  However, this does not mean that things do not or cannot improve – the dramatic improvements I have experienced in my lifetime are awesome.  No longer does religion have a stranglehold over western legal systems as it did back in the 1950s.  Then there is the sexual revolution that came out of the 1960s and the decriminalization of homosexuality, abortion and the recent judicial investigations of religious sexual deviants.  Recreational, and in some cases hard drugs, have been partially or completely decriminalized or approaching a medical condition rather than a legal issue in many western nations.  Even Malaysia has recently acknowledged they have lost their war on drugs and plan to decriminalize drugs.  Euthanasia is seeing the light of day.

The problem with the many recent social and legal improvements is that people don’t seem to notice them – their focus remains on the ills and deficiencies of contemporary society and legal systems.  By analogy, it is like entering a room that urgently needed all surfaces painted.  If a painter turns up to do the job, but runs out of paint before the last wall is painted – which wall will draw your attention when you enter the room?  The unpainted wall of course.  This is what many progressives tend to do, not acknowledge the gains and only focusing upon the ills of society.

Modernity is a development in progress.  It did not wait until the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433 AD to start splashing, but with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius – Modernity got down to the serious business of modernizing the world.  But, according to the astrological ages, Modernity, and all its trappings, is a process that parallels the Aquarian age and overflow (1433 – 3574 – 5697) and furthermore, its momentum will strongly extend about another seven centuries past 5697 to  c.6397 AD before it starts experiencing a serious pushback (from the Leo age-decan of the distant Sagittarius age).

Based on the above, if we take the whole period where the process of modernization is under development (1433 – 6397), a period of 4,964 years, in the year 2019 we are only 586 years inside this modernizing period.  This indicates that only approximately 12% of the possible modernization to come has made its impact to date.  The remaining ‘necessary’ 88% of modernization remains to be tackled. This is a very low level of modernization in our world, as the medieval influence can be argued to sit at around 88%.

The world remains at the kindergarten level of modernization (and democracy) – much more is yet to come.  So the big question is – what fills the gap between contemporary modernization and the level we are to achieve over the coming millennia?  It is mainly Pisces archetypes with a dash of Aries.  The world remains strongly influenced by the Aries age and overflow (2916 BC – 732 BC – 1433 AD) and while the momentum from this Aries epoch continues on with its male macho aggressive influence – its days are numbered.  The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) is in the process of overthrowing the vestige influence from the Aries epoch, and the recent strides females have made since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan is part of the accelerating Libra influence (which shifted into second gear in 1791).  Libra is even stronger next century (when it shifts into third gear).  In the meantime, we still have leaders in the world mentioning the possibility of using nuclear weapons demonstrating the ongoing legacy of violent Aries.

The Pisces epoch is defined as the Pisces age and overflow (732 BC – 1433 AD – 3574 AD), plus an additional seven centuries at the end (until it hits the might of the Virgo age-decan and especially its overflow around 2,000 years from now).  Pisces is not only the sign of today, it has also passed through about 80% of its time of might and so we know a lot more about the influence of Pisces.  In a nutshell, Pisces is associated with medievalism.  Combine medievalism with the remnant from macho Aries and you have a popular combination for the president of the USA modeled after John Wayne. and a growing number of wannabees around the world such as the UK, Brazil and so on.

No sign is associated with only positive archetypes.  The current Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863) at the beginning of the Age of Aquarius breeds opposition.  This may help explain the developing divide of progressive versus conservatives around the world – but mainly in western society at present as each side of the debate sours with increasing frustration at either lack of progress or too much progress.  Another developing divide is autocratic governments (China, Russia etc) versus the ‘free’ world.  These divides will grow over the coming centuries due to the increase in influence in the Libra age-decan and overflow, especially post 2148 – though the astrology does indicate the possibility of a compromise of sorts.

The currents Libra sub-age and overflow (1970 – 2148 – 2327) is accelerating toward the 2148 high point of the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius – the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2148 – 2863).  This suggests that all those science fiction apocalyptic or doom and gloom scenarios that have presented to us about the future are actually the transformation of our current pessimistic outlooks into the future and does not take into account the ‘softening’ of the world social and political situation associated with Libra.  Libra is not associated with austerity or living in caves or ruins of cities in a post-apocalyptic world due to climate change, nuclear war etc.  However, it cannot be absolutely ruled out that Libra will return the world to its garden state because humanity has wiped itself out by nuclear or environmental issues before Libra extends its influence from around 2059 onward.  If we survive, things look much better in the future, if we don’t, the world will improve anyway.

All the above however remains under the long term shift in emphasis from Pisces to Aquarius, and while progressive policies may fluctuate between centuries, it does not change the fundamental outlook that progress is a slow and extremely long term process.  I am sure that in the middle of the next century, progressives will still be gnashing their teeth and conservatives searching for ways to trip them up.  In addition, just to complicate matters, it is absurd to think that all initiatives of progressives or liberals are ‘good’ and that conservative initiatives are bad.  This is an absurd gross oversimplification that would imply that progressives are better people than conservatives.

In my decades of research, I have come to the conclusion that nearly everyone believes they are doing the right thing – and promoting the best policies or outlooks for their family, community, society, nation and world regardless of their political orientation.  It is important to be able to empathize with your political opponents and understand where they are coming from – because your opponent is usually equally sincere in their beliefs as you are.

In the meantime, living in the Age of Techno-Medievalism means that we must deal with a lot of backward and regressive issues due to our early position in Modernity.  There is only so much modernization that can occur in every century, and we will have to realize that the sum total of modernity cannot arrive either in our lifetimes, this century – or even this millennium.

Furthermore, progressive are not anti-medieval and conservatives pro-medieval.  This black and white narrative is incorrect.  Every person, group and country is a mixture of medieval and rational attributes.  The Greens and progressive political parties often demonstrate adherence to medieval values in their pursuit of modern progressive objectives.  A classic example is Greenpeace’s  Rainbow Warrior and its confrontational objectives. Another example is vegans breaking into animal farms and destroying property.   Is it ideal to seek idealistic solutions using yesterdays’ confrontational methods?  Many progressive believe so and indicates how pervasive Pisces medievalism remains out of control in our early 21st century world.

It is not good enough having progressive policies, it is also necessary to be highly conscious in dealing with opponents.  For millennia to come, every Aquarius archetype that appears will be shadowed by Pisces!  We all have the court jester, a knight in white shining armor, witch persecutor or damsel in distress in each of us. Instead of resorting to medieval tribalism, it is far more rational to respect political opponents and to be conscious in any dealings with them.  The views of our conservative opponents are usually a reflection of their gestational social and family environment which is rarely under their control.  A conservative cannot help being a conservative any more than a progressive can help being a progressive.

In conclusion, if you are a frustrated progressive, there is very little you can do to immediately correct all the ills in society other than by voting, expressing your opinions, belonging to groups engage in progressive change, participating in peaceful demonstrations etc with the understanding that progressive policies are very slow in arriving.  On a recent visit by Al Gore to Australia, he stated to the effect that:

‘expected change is much slower in coming than what is expected, but when it does come, it comes much faster than expected’

Despite the need for progressives to be more realistic in the fulfillment of their expectations, what is under our control is our interrelationships with conservative people, institutions and governments and society as a whole.  Gandhi captured the astrology of our times with his non-violent resistance. Non-violence also applies to the nature of our expression and treatment of people that do not agree with us.  The only limit to our personal modernization is ourselves.  Modernity may remain a myth for a long time to come, but our own personal or inner modernization is something we can all work on every day.  The Age of Aquarius is not going to come along and deliver to us a fantasy world on a silver platter where everything is great – that is just a typical Pisces myth.

The 2016 US Presidential Election Part 2 Conclusion

Grand Torino, the 2016 Presidential Elections & the End of this Century

I have tried so many times to write my concluding part of the 2016 US presidential elections but just kept losing interest no matter how many coffees I drank.  After much reflection I now know why.   The two major candidates represent the past and will both help the richer half of the population get richer and leave the other 50% of the population stagnant or scrambling for the few extra breadcrumbs thrown their way.

Donald Trump
Donald Trump

Having made the tentative leap to a new generation with Obama in 2008 and confirmed in 2012, the nominated 2016 candidates are a retreat back to caveman and cave-women politics!  The November 2016 presidential elections loom as a ponderous choice between a lackluster establishment candidate, who is also the first female contender from the two party stable of American politics, and an outsider who clearly lacks common morals and ethics but champions populace policies that are very attractive to a sizable minority of the US electorate.

In many Western societies in the new global world, it is the poorer half that bears the brunt of the radical international economic restructuring due to globalization.  There are winners and losers in this restructure – the rich are getting richer while the poor stagnate.  Many stagnating voters are beginning to snarl.  However, developing and Third World nations seem to be prospering in this new environment.  They are catching up to the Western standard of living.

It seems a curious quirk of fate that a candidate representing the richer half of society, the Republicans, is attracting a significant number of demoralized or snarling voters from the poorer half of society.  However frightened or demoralized voters do not resort to logic when looking to solutions for their perceived problems.

For example, I recently encountered an enthusiastic supporter of Trump.  Though she acknowledged Trump’s unsavory sexual caveman antics, what she was more riled up about was the continuation of the same old thing represented by Hillary Clinton. This Trump supporter does not have a university background, does not understand economics, had a vague and shadowy understanding of history and represented many working class voters.

What she did know was that she was being duped by the ongoing collusion of government with business (without clearly articulating this concept) and  that this ongoing collusion greatly benefited the richer half of society with little noticeable trickle-down effect upon her life or the lives of her friend. Trump was perceived by her as outside of the ‘corrupt’ political system and she believed he represented her best interests in bringing change that will benefit her.

It is always important to understand opposite points of view because the huge majority of people of all political persuasions believe wholeheartedly that they are sincere in their beliefs and they only want the best outcome.  Denigrating people with different political views comes across as a rejection of their sincerity.  But they know they are personally sincere, so they perceive that their attackers (political opponents) are their enemies because they treat them as underlings.  The only real difference in economic outlook between the supporters of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump are their solutions, otherwise it is chalk and cheese with nearly every issue.

Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton

If you focus upon the superficialities of the 2016 US elections and many world events you may be dismayed or confused – but if you examine the astrology behind this reality you will see this is part of an arc of a much bigger story.  For voters on the Right, Trump is their lasting hope to restore the “greatness” to America while to voters on the Left, Trump is a crass neo-fascists.  Voting for Hillary appears to be nothing but a vote against Trump.  This is obviously Hillary’s greatest asset in this election.  Both sides are depending upon fear for their support.  This does not mean it is a waste of time voting, and any election requires serious reflection by the public but the astrology strongly suggests that the public will be dissatisfied either way.  In this Cancer time, the public is usually dissatisfied with their leaders.

This election occurs at the peak of Cancer derived from the Cancer micro-age decan and overflow (2007-2012-2017) but if this almost 10 years period is broken down into its four quarters, like the lunation cycle, it is currently in the third quarter of the cycle which is always the most potent quarter of any cycle in macro-astrology.  Specifically, the third quarter runs from December 2014 to mid-2017 where Cancer is at its greatest potency. (see Cancer – the New Paradigm for the World for more details)

On the dark side of Cancer is fear.  Brexit was instigated by fear. Many countries are building walls or erecting barriers on their borders to prevent ‘illegal’ immigrants and refugees from entering their countries. Other countries and Trump are proposing the same.  Many people fear those that are different either due to religion, language, skin color or anything that can possibly differentiate one group of people from another such as people with AIDS, leprosy or whatever. This fear was exemplified by Clint Eastwood in the 2008 movie Grand Torino when an aging American Korean War veteran had to confront having an Hmong family from South-East Asia living next door.  There are always many people in most countries that are fearful of ‘outsiders’. Governments and political parties around the world cultivate this fear for their own purposes.  (see Gemini’s Role in our Modern World (or Battle of the Brains).

In a Cancer time, (Capricorn) leaders are scorned, ignored, repudiated or denounced by the (Cancer) general public who see their (Capricorn) leaders as their (7th house) enemies.  However from the perspective of ‘leaders’ this Cancer period rules their 7th house as well so they can go on the aggressive offensive.  This is why we see the pitiful spectacle of the 2016 presidential contenders’ cat fights.  Furthermore, these contenders are no longer upholding their democratic right of the viewpoints of their opponent.  No matter which candidate wins, the Cancer public will be offside.  It is a no-win situation.

However, both Hillary and Trump do represent different sides of Cancer.  Cancer favors females, so in this regard, Cancer gives Hillary and edge as the potential first female president.  Cancer also rules mentally unstable people, and while no one would suggest that Trump is mentally unstable, he does come across as politically unstable.  Surprisingly, this instability gives Trump an edge as it aligns with Cancer.  Unfortunately for Trump, half the voters are female but half the voters are not so keen on an unstable candidate.

There is nothing new to say about this election that I have not already published except that this is probably the last election where both candidates are firmly focused upon yesterday’s world.  The next election will not be an election for the policies of yesterday because the world has recently entered a 10 year Aquarius sub-period overlapping the 10 year Cancer period (both of which are derived from 5 year decans of a micro-age – see Age of Aquarius for Dummies for more details on the internal structure of ages).  This new Aquarian period is the strongest Aquarius influence any Baby Boomer or later generations have ever experienced and harks back to the 1920s and 30s when Aquarius was very strong (see This is the Dawning of the Aquarius Micro-Age Decan for more details).

However, it is not until mid-2017 that this new Aquarius period will gather more strength but by 2022 it’s a new Aquarius heyday. However, in the meantime, the arrival of any new period will have an immediate impact, and in this election, this new Aquarius impact was represented by Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump on opposite sides of the Aquarian coin.  Both had revolutionary and politically eccentric messages that galvanized many supporters.  Aquarius can temporarily supercharge any situation.

Aquarius, like all zodiacal signs, has positive and negative archetypes associated with it.  Most starry eyed idealists see a magical idealistic Age of Aquarius yet if this was the case, every Aquarian you know would stand out as superior to other signs.  This is not the case.  Aquarius is definitely associated with democracy, freedom and liberty (on a good day) but also fascism, dictators and destructive revolutionaries or anarchists on a bad day.  Adolph Hitler was a perfect example of a fascist dictator appearing when Aquarius was at its last peak in the world, but that peak was three times stronger than the current Aquarius blip which has just arrived on the scene.  The new Aquarius period is still in diapers.

Under Aquarius, many people are attuned to be ‘electrified’ by a charismatic leader who will bring back greatness and any other quality they feel is missing.  On the neo-fascist side of Aquarius the means they adopt to achieve their goals do not have to be fair, democratic or rational because their aim is so “pure”, they are above the normal ethics and law that prevail.  This is why so many Filipinos support a president who has legitimized extra judicial murder by the police force against people involved with illegal drugs.  There is no suggestion that Donald Trump is a fascist of the same stature as Adolph Hitler, but he and his supporters promote some neo-fascist policies.  This is why Trump stated in one debate that he plans to appoint a special prosecutor for the purpose of putting Hillary in jail if he wins the election. Also, denouncing or persecuting minorities of any type, such as Mexicans, is another standard approach from the fascist bag of tricks.  Most modern Western countries continue to deploy a range of neo-fascist policies by promoting fear amongst the population.

The most interesting aspect of the 2016 US election is not who wins but what this implies about the future of the USA (and the world) in the second half of the current century.  A major Aquarius sub-age decan arrives in 2029 which will be in full swing by 2089 but seriously picking up speed as early as 2059.  Our little Aquarius period this decade is a preview of the end of this century!  The astrology suggests that the Bernie Sanders preview is what is in store for the USA but Trump is the preview of those nations with less entrenched democratic ideals.  A good current example is the political situation in the Philippines and Poland.

In the last two presidential elections I have analyzed the birth micro-age decans of the contenders and made a prediction of who would win based on the relationships between the birth micro-age decan and the ruling micro-age decan at election time.  However, Trump and Hillary were born so close together that such an analysis cannot be used to differentiate between them.  Both were born in the Capricorn-Sagittarius Pre-Boomer generation (see Generational Astrology – Part 2 Pre-Boomers (Cap-Sag) ).  The two former presidents from this generation were Bill Clinton and George W Bush.

On the 29th January 2012 I posted on a Facebook group “This election is starting to look like a landslide win for the Democrats regardless of it being Sanders or Clinton”.  Furthermore, the tide of change is sweeping the world, and with this tide, progressive politics is favored over conservative politics until November 2029 (but only in advanced democracies).  What this means is that every US presidential election until 2029 favors the Democrats.  This does not automatically mean that the Democrats will win every presidential election until that date.

However, the post Second World War years at a minimum indicate that when a party wins a presidential election when the wind is technically blowing in the other direction, the incumbent president hits far more headwinds than normal (see table below).  The only two presidents that this applies to is Richard Nixon, who resigned from office, and Bill Clinton who was unsuccessfully impeached.  This means that in the unlikely scenario that Trump won, expect some serious opposition to his presidency and possible impeachment.

Finally, I am not only a macro-astrologer but also a Vedic-Western fusion astrologer.  Vedic astrology employs a predictive technique called Vimshottari.  One of the most difficult dasas within the Vimshottari system that anyone must navigate is the 18 year Rahu dasa (Moon’s north node in western astrology).  About 80% of people experience a serious loss near the beginning or end of this dasa and Vedic texts often state that a person loses at the end of this dasa all the gains they have made during the dasa.  Trump’s Rahu dasa concludes on November 14 2016.  This does not look good for Trump!

Furthermore, Trump’s Rahu (the dragon) is in his 10th house tightly conjunct his Sun. Trump is in his dragon period where he feels he can open his mouth and with his fiery outpourings – burn away all opposition.  Who dares to challenge the almighty dragon?  Well, his Vedic chart strongly suggests that his fire is about to go out.  Hillary is in her Sun dasa.  Will Trump’s Rahu eclipse Hillary’s Sun? Extremely unlikely.

In this new 10 years Aquarius period, which overlaps a 10 year Cancer period, Aquarius sorts out the sheep from the goats.  Those countries with shallow democratic ideals entrenched within the population tend to regress to anti democratic and neo-fascist governments or policies with fear the common underlying sentiment. Entrenched democracies tend to push forward into a higher evolution of democracy and liberalism but not without a serious reaction by some elements of society.  What suffers in this process is the middle-of-the-road approach as mainstream values are aligned to Leo, the sign opposite in quality to Cancer.

So while the 2016 US presidential election is mainly affected by the correlation to Cancer, it is also experiencing an input from Aquarius. Most Western countries are experiencing a rise in neo-fascism amongst a sizeable minority of their populations, but it is extremely unlikely that a country like the USA, with such entrenched democratic and liberal ideals, will succumb to this rising tide.  Countries like the Phillipines, Thailand, Poland, Turkey, Hungary and so on do not have this entrenched democratic ethos and are more liable to tip towards neo-fascism.  The 2016 US presidential election is really just a bit player in this larger game.

In conclusion, the 2016 US presidential is not really about who will win but an act in the ongoing struggle towards a more evolved liberal democratic outlook facing growing resentment by a sizeable minority of people in advanced democracies against this evolution while in less democratic environments, the reactionary forces are stronger and neo-fascists forces will temporarily dominate just as they did in Germany, Italy and Japan in the early 20th century.  It certainly will be an interesting world towards the end of this century when the Aquarius input is four times stronger than the world experienced in the first half of the 20th century and 12 times stronger than the current Aquarius blip!

POSTSCRIPT (20 October 2016)

I am again attending the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival (26 – 30 October 2016 www.ubudwritersfestival.com) in Bali, Indonesia – the nation with the largest Muslim population in the world.  In a number of commentaries by distinguished writers, journalists and organizers, the common theme was presented that currently in the world government policies and election campaigns are no longer about facts and information but (Cancer) emotions.  Even if a candidate makes a statement that is categorically incorrect or a lie by the ‘fact checker’, this means nothing.  In a Cancer time, a significant number of people are not interested in facts but are only willing to emotionally respond.

Another interesting insights gleaned from the festival is that the new neo-fascists politicians such as Duterte in the Philippines, Putin in Russia and Trump in the USA (and many others around the world to a greater or lesser extent) have the ability to ‘electrify’ their supporters.  Electricity is associated with Aquarius – the other key sign currently gaining traction in the world.  Germans reportedly were ‘electrified’ by the speeches of Adolph Hitler in the previous (stronger) Aquarius period.  However this time around, these fascist-orientated politicians are being democratically elected!

POSTSCRIPT (2 November 2016)

This new Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) has seen the rise of the new breed of petty neo-fascists around the world, though this time around, they mostly are obtaining power through the ballot box.  It comes as shock and horror to many people that a huge number of people prefer mini-Hitler clones to solve their problems.  If you want to know how the 1930s fascists came to power, just observe how a significant number of the US electorate will vote in November 2016.  History does repeat itself!

On the other side of the coin are Aquarian visionaries such as Bernie Sanders.  There are two sides to all zodiacal signs including Aquarius. Most astrologers think the Age of Aquarius only manifests good Aquarian archetypes and keeps the bad Aquarian archetypes under lock and key.  This is called Pisces delusion.

The new Aquarius micro-age decan is the first micro-age decan of the new Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which resides in the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148) – the forth sub-age in the Age of Aquarius

In the USA, the new Aquarius micro-age decan has manifested in Donald Trump’s triumph in securing the candidature for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination and Bernie Sanders failed attempt to gain the Democratic Party nomination.  However all periods in macro-astrology have a yin-yang aspect.  For example in any period, such as the new Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019), there are some anti-Aquarius times but mostly Aquarius is (yang) strong.

This means that while any archetypal activity associated with Aquarius is promoted in the Aquarius micro-age decan, in some parts, not only does this not happen, it can even breed anti-Aquarian sentiments, but only temporarily.

Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders took advantage of the new Aquarian sentiment of the times and each launched into their specific versions of revolutionary outlooks that basically represented both sides of the Aquarian coin.  However recently, a poison apple appeared in both camps.

The current Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) contains four nano-ages of approximately 15 months each.  Currently the world is in the Aries nano-age (March 2016 – June 2017). But here the plot deepens because if we drill down into the little Aries nano-age, it has three nano-age decans of approximately five months each.  Currently the world is in the Leo nano-age decan (August 2016 – January 2017).

There is a little sponginess with the exact month these very small periods commence and end due to the erratic nature of precession of the equinoxes.  Nevertheless, this little Leo period can temporarily upset the intentions of the much larger Aquarius micro-age decan.  This is what has happened and continues to happen.

Bernie Sanders dropped out of the Democratic race on the 26 July, at the nebulous cusp of the beginning of the Leo sub-period.  Trump’s campaign has hit serious headwinds from August onwards.  For example on October 7, 2016, The Washington Post publicized a recorded conversation about Donald Trump and Billy Bush having “an extremely lewd conversation about women” in 2005.   This was a pivotal turning point, not for the diehard Republicans who would eagerly back Dracula if necessary, but it affected many of the undecided voters who decide the election.

Leo periods favor the mainstream over extremists. This new Leo sub-period definitely swings public sentiment away from Trump, and this anti-extremist sentiment grows with every passing week – it technically ratchetted up into second gear in the last week or so.  It will be at full strength by January 2017.

The electorate is fickle and changeable, especially when the primary micro-age decan in force is Cancer (Aquarius is currently the secondary micro-age decan present but will become the primary micro-age in mid-2017).

These nano-age decans hidden deep within the astrological ages are potent and have clear correlations to evolving developments in the world on the month-to-month level.  The anti-extremists Leo nano-age decan will knock Trump off his already tenuous perch.  It’s just bad timing for Trump and a godsend for Hillary.

We should also see some other petty neo-fascist leaders temporarily experiencing greater than expected opposition in the current Leo sub-period – especially in the ‘overflow’ period from January to March 2017 and even up to June 2017.  It’s hard to feel sympathetic to Putin, the Thai military junta, the Polish, Turkish and Philippines presidents, just to name a few of the petty neo-fascist leaders in the world today.  However they will be again in full swing by mid-2017 at the latest.  But in the meantime, they will have to deal with stronger than normal opposition to their petty tyrannies.

It must be remembered that while the petty tyrants, and pretenders to the throne such as Trump, grab the headlines, there is much activity on the other side of Aquarius.  Bernie Sanders may get quickly washed down the drain hole of history but his spirit is representative of the coming world according to the incoming Age of Aquarius.  Just because the tide is coming in does not mean each wave moves further up the beach, but on average, the waves do move further up the beach.

There are many people desperately trying to stop the incoming wave of the Age of Aquarius but while they can win some battles, they cannot win the war.  But this struggle will be played out over the next century and a half and even longer in less developed countries in the world.  It’s the grand theme of our times.

POSTSCRIPT NOVEMBER 11 2016

I had the first inkling of flaws in my assumption of Hillary Clinton winning the presidential election about one week before the election, and on November 6th I published on a number of Facebook sites “The Scorpio Lunar Month & the US Presidential Elections” (see www.facebook.com/Macro.Astrology).

In this post I stated:

“For the current Scorpio lunar month, the Taurus full Moon (on 14th November), ….. actively stimulates Trump’s 10th house of status and fame and undermines Hillary’s personal worth in favour of her opponent.”

“There are a number of possibilities. Firstly, the election result may be so close that the final result must wait until after the full Moon effect but in the meantime, Trump is sitting in the sunshine of a possible victory. Secondly, the result is clear on the day but Trump goes on a final ranting binge about the corruption of the US presidential election followed by his last few days as a major news item? Thirdly, Trump actually wins the election?”

“Something strange and unusual is occurring here as Trump gets an immediate election afterglow, one way or another.”

“The only influence from the Dark Moon Lilith is that within 24 hours of the election the transiting Sun will be conjunct Trumps progressed Lilith. This brings either great fame or great loss of fame, but nothing in the middle.”

“In conclusion, ….. it does suggest something that promotes Trump’s image post-election day … . Somehow he gets an election afterglow….. The coming full Moon indicates he will be at his best under the glow of the full Moon.”

However, my mindset was so caught up in the prevailing view that it was impossible for Trump to win the election, that I did not heed the warnings of such a simple and elementary thing as the full moon only days after the election. This full moon in Taurus is located in Trump’s 10th house of fame and prestige and located in Hillary’s 7th house representing her opponent (using whole sign houses).

The lunation cycle and full moons are generally overlooked by the huge majority of astrologers who are always hypnotized with the natal horoscope. Every full moon behaves like a mini-eclipse. Its effects are not limited to the actual few days that the full moon is in the actual sign where it occurs, but it spreads its wings for a number of days either side of the exact full moon. It has personally affected me as the November 2016 Taurus full moon falls in my 4th house of anti-status, thus I am still digesting my hat.

Many astrologers correctly forecasted the election of Trump. The following list (which is probably incomplete), lists astrologers who correctly predicted Trump winning the election: Anil Aggarwal , Steven Birchfield, Barry Goddard, Lisa J Gordon (aka Lisa Lazuli), Hossein Heidari‎, (Steve Judd), Sharon Knight, Inderjit Singh Kallirai, Sachin Malhotra, Peter Novak, Krasi Serguieva, William Stickevers, Ming Wang and Theodore White.

Further details plus list of incorrect predictions available at http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9205

It is always more difficult to pick the correct winner when the winner appears to be the outside chance plus with politics, it appears that 90% of astrologers are biased towards left wing or progressive political persuasion. Therefore congratulations are definitely in order for these astrologers with the correct predictions in difficult circumstances.

A friend of mine stated after the election that a lot of hats are being eaten. Though I had a late inclination that something was wrong with my expectation of a Clinton victory, it was too late. I succumbed to the old enemy of accurate predictions – I succumbed to my own political bias. I am totally aware of my political bias, and I actually try to counter-balance this bias, but in this case, my bias won. At every point of analysis in weighing up the pros and cons of the positive and negative astrological influences, I gave Hillary the benefit of the doubt.

So it is totally appropriate that the November 2016 Taurus full moon is located in my 4th house – how appropriate! For those non-astrologers, the 4th house is ‘anti-status’.

For those interested readers, the following are posts I have previously published on or associated with this topic:

The 2016 US Presidential Election Part 1

Is the World a Calamity in Progress?

Recently I have been exposed to many people with pessimistic outlooks upon the world.  We know that the world has enough food but yet people are starving.  We know that the world has adequate resources for all yet countless millions live in abject poverty.  We see Donald Trump on TV – and though he has redefined the concept of stupidity, he is an actual contender for the most powerful political position in the world.  And his finger could be on the button!  Will a cascade of intercontinental ballistic nuclear weapons rain down upon an unsuspecting world if he has a bad hair day?  What is also of concern is that over 40% of the American voting public apparently are prepared to vote for him.

This is just a small fraction of all the bad news.  Corporations and governments are facilitating the pollution of our air, water and land to the point that the average person actually must buy pure water to avoid poisoning themselves. Will we have to buy pure oxygen soon due to air pollution? In the Land of the Free (USA), where a greater percentage of the population is imprisoned compared to any other country, they have prisoner ‘sales’ targets whereby governments must ensure that the privatized prisons have at least 90% occupancy. The average prisoner costs the same amount of money to the state as the salary of a teacher.  Despite the trillions spent of the war against terrorists over the last decade or so, the likelihood of a random terrorist attack has increased exponentially many thousands of times.

I am sure that any sane person could spend the rest of their life documenting the ridiculous outcomes of our modern world.  Is modernity a negative concept? Even relatively normal people are expressing concern about where the world is heading.  The general consensus is that the world is like a ball rolling towards the cliff ready to fall over the edge.  This does not inspire optimism or confidence.

The astrology associated with the astrological ages, and specifically our position in the Age of Aquarius, does support the above pessimistic outlook but not the pessimistic outcome.  When we talk about optimism, we usually refer to Sagittarius suggesting that Sagittarius’ opposite sign Gemini is pessimistic.  A superficial examination of Sagittarius and Gemini plus other key signs within the Age of Aquarius reveals the reason for the current desultory outlook by many people, especially in Western Society.

In contrast to the West, many people in developing nations are not feeling negative or pessimistic as they are currently riding a secondary wave of economic expansion and material prosperity.  Whenever a new age or sub period of an age appears, the focus of new developments is usually focused upon a specific region, center or culture.  This is what occurred with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century which firmly placed a focus upon Western society.  It was Western society that pioneered the new Aquarian age ethos which then spreads out to the rest of the world like the wake of a boat.  This is why Western society has become despondent while other societies are still experiencing the wake of the fading expansionary period.  The new despondent wake will also hit Asia and the rest of the world in the future.

Western society started the modern expansionary economic paradigm with the Industrial Revolution feeding into the worldwide population explosion.  This quiet naturally was associated with the Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612-1791-1970) which like a giant wave has swept through the world but spearheaded by mainly Western nations.  The majority of expansion and optimism was experienced in the second half of the wave (1791-1970).

World Manufacturing Graph (1750-1900)

Conversely, Western nations are unwittingly spearheading the drive towards contraction and minimalism but have not yet understood that this is actually happening and that this is not some temporary aberration but will continue for a long time.  The rest of the world is not taking over the reins from Western society, but just catching up, whereupon they will also start their own paths towards contraction, especially with their populations and economic growth. (see All Good Things Must Come to an End for more details)

Though the expansionary Sagittarius wave technically came to an end in 1970, this is not how it works in practice.  Basically the Sagittarius expansionary paradigm continues its momentum until it comes to a barrier. Secondly, near the end of this Sagittarius wave was a Sagittarius micro-age and overflow (1940-1955-1970) with the peak of this smaller wave aligned to the Baby Boomers.  (see Baby Boomers in the Age of Aquarius) The Baby Boomers are the last hurrah of expansionary Sagittarius as the world plummets into out-of-control economic overdrive and environmental degradation.  The Baby Boomers are like the captain of the Titanic encouraging the sailors to increase speed as they plow towards the iceberg.

The main sign that undermines Sagittarius is Gemini.  Gemini is currently developing as the new sign of our times. After the Sagittarius wave came the wave associated with the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791-1970-2148).  This remains very strong in the world and is part of the reason so many people are feeling vulnerable, sarcastic and desultory – Scorpio has never been known as a cheerful sign … unless you call throwing flower petals on a coffin a pleasant experience.  (see SCORPIO – the Sign of the Times …. Revisited – Part 1 )

However, following in the wake of the Scorpio wave is the relatively new Libra sub-age (1970-2148), and based on previous sub-ages, its main period of benefit will be in its overflow period commencing in 2148 whereupon it will bring in a mini Golden Age – provided there is anyone left around to enjoy it!  The current Libra sub-age (this is why a female is running for US president in 2016) has three sub-age decans, and the first sub-age decan within the Libra sub-age is the Gemini sub-age decan (1970-2029). Naturally, Gemini will be far stronger in its almost 60 years overflow period commencing in 2029.

Gemini is opposite Sagittarius, and it is this Gemini sub-age that is currently bringing a halt to economic expansionism and optimistic outlook mainly in the Western economies.  Because Gemini is unlucky and pessimistic, it has a tendency to resort to cheating and thieving to gain advantage.  This growing phenomenon is being played out by corporations around the world where each year they discover new means and methods to cheat their customers.  Whereupon a few years ago, airlines discovered they could extract more money from their passengers by supplying a relatively cheap basic service than charging often exorbitant amounts for add-ons, flight changes and so on, this is now spreading like an inferno. In the absence of a strongly expansionary market, businesses are trying to extract more and more from each customer using anyone of a number of devious and nefarious (Gemini) schemes.

This anti-Sagittarius new Gemini reality may be hypnotizing the world with handheld mobile devices, but it is also associated with a pessimistic outlook.  If everything is not expanding crazily, things must be bad!  However, while Gemini may be a new and growing reality, it is not the most important player on the field.  A massive revolution is underway associated with the Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970-2148) leading to an incredibly strong Libra period.  This Libra period will greatly affect the world for over 700 years commencing in 2148 – introducing the first mini golden age after almost 7,000 years of mainly war and violence.  Naturally, the last 5,000 years of war is associated with the arrival of the Aries age and overflow (2916BC – 732BC – 1433AD).

In the meantime in our cell phone modern world, it seems like a partnership with sour old Scorpio and pessimistic Gemini being the two key players of note.  Scorpio is bringing a smaller and more evolved world but change always grates because society and culture is always aligned to Taurus – the sign of stability. Scorpio is the opposite sign to Taurus, so all social cultural values have been under attack since 1791, and picking up speed since 1970.   Scorpio is introducing the most unstable of times and people not only dislike instability, they will even fight for their stable cultural-religious values as they dissolve in slow motion before their eyes.  But cultural values will continue to dissolve because Scorpio improves by first pruning the bush then producing new growth which is more appropriate to the times.  The world is mainly in the destructive side of a major metamorphosis.

If you look carefully, there are huge areas of advancement, progress and social evolution in the world today but our minds are more attuned to the disasters and problems when we feel desultory and pessimistic. A steady and growing percentage of Western populations are acknowledging the key role of the environment over short sighted capitalistic practices. Females continue to demand and get greater equality to the point that the most powerful political position in the world is soon to be most likely held by a woman.  Gays are in the process of gaining the right to marry in a growing number of Western nations. Some drugs demonized only a few decades ago are finding increasing support from mainstream society.

However, socio-political-cultural revolutions are painful, and many reactionary elements will do their best to stop the tide from coming in.  Donald Trump is tapping into this reactionary sentiment by many voters who nostalgically prefer the old over the new.   This is also why in the 1960s and 70s so many nations, including Western nations, succumbed to military coups and dictators in place of democracy to prevent progressive change from upsetting their part of the world.  It did not work then, and it will not work now or in the future but it will temporarily re-appear.  The main change to the change occurring in the world is that it will progressively grow stronger and have wider effects and affect more of the world – change is accelerating.  Reactionary elements will also periodically get stronger and try and stop the tide coming in.

So many people get despondent when they realize they will not be around for the mini Golden Age that will arrive mid next century.  There is no need to feel despondent as anyone can be mentally in the Golden Age now, and while the percentage of the population that may already be mentally in the Golden age is a small percentage, this percentage is constantly growing.  More and more people do not want more of the same. (see The Silent Revolution ) Unfortunately, Gemini makes people impatient, and many people are impatient for all the benefits of the Golden Age which cannot fully manifest before midway through next century.

There are important steps along the way towards the mini Golden Age, but the next most important step does not arrive until 2059 – but a preview will appear next decade.  What will happen around 2059?  In western society at least, about 20% of the population will be environmentally friendly and attuned to progressive political and cultural agendas compared to about 10% at present.  20% is the tipping point and research indicates that once 20% of the population has turned to a different direction, they have far greater influence upon society than what should be expected from only 20% of the population.  However, by the mid 22nd century, this 20% becomes 50%.

Finally, there is also very good news hidden behind the turmoil and angst of the modern world.  Of all the signs, Scorpio is the sign most aligned to inner reality or inner Truth.  This means that one of the greatest opportunities in the world today under Scorpio is to find or discover the inner reality that underpins life, the universe and everything.  Scorpio indicates change and turmoil in the external world but actively promotes the benefits of the inner world and the Truth available from going inside.  If truth and ultimate reality are important to you, then you have hit the jackpot for the time you live in.  Search for it because, among other considerations, the astrology is on your side for success in this endeavor.  It is also more fulfilling than complaining and watching the world seemingly go down the gurgler.

There is an old concept associated with the lotus.  While the lotus expresses beauty and enlightenment, it also usually grows in a smelly putrid swamp.  At this point of history, we definitely get the swamp, but we can also have the lotus.  Many ancient and modern seers have stated that they were distracted from smelling the putrid swamp when dazzled by the lotus.

Aquarian Age Myths, Fallacies & Distortions

Why do people project Pisces’ archetypes onto the Age of Aquarius?  Most astrologers claim that Jesus commenced the Pisces age and most people believe the Age of Aquarius commenced in the 1960s and 70s.  However how can both these facts be true if ages are at least 2150 years in length?  Most projections of what we can expect in the Age of Aquarius is a paradisiacal age free from all the problems that have encumbered the world in recent millennia.  Are your Aquarian friends perfect?  Do they stand out as superior to the other 12 signs of the zodiac?  Why should the Age of Aquarius be more positive than any other age?

The Age of Aquarius has become an urban legend ever since the theatrical production of Hair proclaimed “This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius ….”  Most newspapers and comments on blogs clearly relate the dawning of the Age of Aquarius to the 1960’s and 70’s when Hair first appeared.  Many people are so disappointed with the direction the world has taken since those inspiring times (for some) of the 60’s and 70’s to the point where the sentiment has become `where is the goddamned Age of Aquarius anyway?’  Some journalists even state that the Age of Aquarius was a 20 year phenomenon applying only the 1960s and 70s and has now died an ignoble death.

While people are ready to accept an Aquarian age commencing in the 60’s and 70’s as a fait accompli, rarely does anyone check the sources of such claims about the Aquarian age.  The song’s lyrics contain the following:

When the moon is in the Seventh House
and Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

While it is certainly melodious, from an astrological perspective it is absolute nonsense.  The position of the moon in the seventh house, eleventh house or any house has no relationship in any way with the Age of Aquarius.  Jupiter aligns with Mars (i.e. a conjunction) every couple of years or so and this has no relationship to the Age of Aquarius either.  There is no reason why the Aquarius song should maintain astrological integrity due to poetic license.  However this poetic license has continued unabated in the general public’s perception and many astrologers of this urban legend.

The above stanza is followed by the following lyrics. In addition, I have underlined the key word or words in each line and assign them the astrological sign that is most commonly associated with the word or phrase.  The following is the result:

Then peace will guide the planets  – Libra
And love will steer the stars  – Libra

Harmony and understanding  –  Libra, Gemini?
Sympathy and trust abounding  – Pisces, Pisces
Golden living dreams of visions  – LeoPisces
Mystic crystal revelation  – Pisces, Pisces, Pisces
And the mind’s true liberation  – Aquarius?
As our hearts go beating through the night  – Leo
We dance unto the dawn of day  – Pisces
To be the bearers of the water  – Aquarius
Our light will lead the way  – Leo
We are the spirit of the age of Aquarius  – Pisces
Angelic illumination  – Pisces
Rising fiery constellation  – Aries
Travelling our starry courses
Guided by the cosmic forces  –
Pisces
Oh, care for us; Aquarius  – Pisces

Removing repetitive choruses and lines the archetypal information that the song is telling us indicates 11 instances of Pisces, Libra 3, Leo 3, Aquarius 2, Aries 1 and Gemini 1.  Of the 21 instances from the above lyrics that can be related to astrological archetypes, 52% relate to Pisces and 10% to Aquarius.  Even if some of the above archetypal assignations are incorrect, much the same result of a great focus upon Pisces remains.

The lyrics to a song, like poetry, can engage in poetic license.  Poetic license has definitely occurred in the song Aquarius because only 10% of it is directed towards Aquarius while over half is directed to Pisces.  So why is a song that is directed at the Age of Aquarius full of Pisces metaphors?

This issue has an extra edge as the Age of Aquarius follows the age of Pisces.  On a simplistic level what this song indicates is that our collective view of the new Aquarian age is so corrupted by our entrenched Pisces sensibilities which will not allow us to accurately project Aquarius.  When we wish to project Aquarius we project Pisces. Why, because in the first half of the Age of Aquarius at least, the momentum from the Pisces age is stronger than Aquarius which is the new kid on the block and has not yet had time to age and mature.

The poetic license that exists in Aquarius does not end with this song.  It has continued unabated over the last three and a half decades with the result that over half the projections of the new Aquarian age actually describe Pisces.  Though anecdotal, my observation is that over 90% of the projections of the Aquarian age relate to Pisces.

For example, take the following excerpt was obtained online in 2008:

This millennium came in with great expectation. Many people thought it was a new age that would usher in the age of Aquarius, the water bearer and the bearer of spirituality. As a result of this transformation the foundational western belief, dualism, would be shaken and give way to a more holistic approach to living. Spirituality would be available to everyone experientially and we would all be enlightened. Perhaps this will happen, but when we take a look around the world right now it’s obvious that it really hasn’t happened yet.[i]

The underlined text in the above is those keywords that draw upon Pisces archetypes.  In other words, this writer’s expectations of the Age of Aquarius is that it will bring in a Pisces paradise, but paradise belongs to Pisces, not Aquarius.

Another excellent example along the same theme is provided by (sic) theeKultleeder  in 2008 – the underlining of Pisces archetypes are mine:

Some New Age adherents explicitly describe the new age as a return to paradisiacal Eden —…  Joel Kramer, in Yoga Journal 1980-Jan, wrote “In the mid-Sixties, many people believed that we were on the verge of an exciting and glorious new age in human evolution. The popular song, ‘Aquarius,’ captured the spirit …. , Many of us naively expected the human race to smoothly and quickly cultivate the earth into a new Eden.” In a poem titled “Age of Aquarius”, a New Age adherent named Cecil Hickman wrote in 2005-Feb: “A future to dream, we live in peace and love. / Glorious time for all of Earths humankind, / Eden reborn as promised from our Lord above. […] United as a planet, love will live, prejudice cease. […][ii]

In the above peace and love and United as a planet, love will live evoke Libra.

The greatest myth of the Aquarian age is that it will bring in a Pisces paradise with a strong support from Libra.

Another typical example is the following from Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi:

So, now a New Age has started which is called the Age of Aquarius, meaning the pitcher carrier of spiritual holy water that is the work of Kundalini.[iii]

Spirituality is Pisces likewise all psychic phenomena and subtle forces such as Kundalini.

It is a fascinating that most comments, statements and expectations about the Age of Aquarius promote Pisces.  I am not the only astrologer to notice this extreme contradiction but the momentum of misinformation about the Pisces-colored Age of Aquarius is so strong that it continues like a never ending tragic soap opera – Pisces also rules tragic soap operas!  Occasionally someone refers to Aquarius archetypes in their projection of the Age of Aquarius, but they are a small minority.

Wolf in Sheep Clothing

The upshot of this is it is more likely than not that anything anyone states about the Aquarian age is pure (Pisces) myth.  The unfortunate repercussion of the myth-laden Age of Aquarius is that the misinformation spread about the Aquarian age prevents people from really seeing the Aquarian age in its own right.  Visualize an Pisces wolf in an Aquarian clothing – this is the situation today with the urban myths spread about the Age of Aquarius.  The Aquarian age does not need to recreate the mythical Garden of Eden to be a great age.  The Aquarian age does not require the comical spectacle of humanity all being enlightened – who will collect the garbage?  The Aquarian age can stand on its own feet and display its self-esteem about its Aquarian archetypes that will predominate in the Age of Aquarius. However, of all the signs, Aquarius is the sign of lowest self-esteem as its opposite sign, Leo, vacuums up self-esteem by the spade full leaving scant remnants for Aquarius.

The poetic license associated with the Age of Aquarius is so strong that probably in excess of 90% of everything ever stated about the Age of Aquarius is poetic license.  In other words, if a concept about the Aquarian age sounds good – it must be true!  This approach has not only been maintained by the general public, but also by most astrologers.

Why has this situation come about?  It is very simple really.  The astrological fraternity has not a clue about the Age of Aquarius.  Charles Carter, a leading 20th century British astrologer, stated:

It is probable that there is no branch of Astrology upon which more nonsense has been poured forth than the doctrine of the precession of the equinoxes

Note: precession of the equinoxes is the astronomical source for the ages such as the Age of Aquarius. All astrology has an astronomical source.  In the case of the astrological ages, precession of the equinoxes means that the Earth spins like a top but wobbles.  This wobble creates a 26,000 year cycle which when divided by 12, allows for the creation of 12 ages per cycle at a little over 2,000 years per age.

It is this total lack of clarity amongst astrologers referred to by Charles Carter that has created a knowledge vacuum about the Age of Aquarius.  In this vacuum poetic license has filled the gap.  So what is the solution to this mixed-up urban myth?  The only solution is that nothing should be believed about the Aquarian age (or any other age) unless some proof is tendered that a reasonably intelligent person can understand.  Unless some proof is tendered it is more likely than not that anything anyone states about the Aquarian age is pure myth or fallacies even though the astrologers peddling such misinformation are well intentioned – another Pisces archetype!

The Aquarian age did not begin in the 1960’s or ’70s

Another commonly stated myth about the Aquarian age is that it commenced in the 1960’s or ’70s.  Blogs from one end of the world to the other repeatedly discuss the arrival of the Aquarian age in those rebellious and drug-fueled times.  Just because the musical Hair proclaimed that `this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius…’ does not make it so.  If all the people in the world jumped up and down in unison declaring this is the beginning of the Age of Aquarius, Aquarius could not care less, even if everyone sang it in key!

When it comes to the Aquarian age, astrologers want to eat their cake and keep it.  The most common statement on the subject, from those few research astrologers that examine the ages, is that the previous age, the Age of Pisces, arrived with the birth of Jesus Christ.  Pisces is the sign of two fish.  Since early times Christians preferred the fish symbol for Christianity, so astrologers behave like Homer Simpson and say

Homer_Simpson_2006
Homer Simpson

d’oh – Jesus must have started the Pisces age

However if Jesus commenced the Pisces age, the earliest the Aquarian age can arrive is around 2150.  Why?  Because the cycle of ages takes approximately 26,000 years to make one revolution therefore each age appears for approximately 2150 years each.  If the Pisces age commenced with Jesus then the Aquarian age cannot commence before approx. 2150.

Furthermore, some astrologers actually believe that the length of an age is taken literally from the size of the zodiacal constellations along the zodiac.  For example, the constellation of Pisces is much larger than normal, so therefore the Pisces age must be even longer than 2,150 years.

The problem with the Aquarian age arriving in the middle of the 22nd century is how to explain all the Aquarian developments in the world today.  Such Aquarian developments include electricity, computers, flight, space travel and democracy.  What do these have to do with the Pisces age?

To get around this awkward question the solution is easy – just state that we are approaching the cusp of the Pisces and Aquarian ages, and at the cusp there is a blurring of the two influences.  Unfortunately no experienced astrologer to my knowledge has ever experienced cusps.  Cusps are an urban myth popular with those members of the general public with a little knowledge of astrology and with novice astrologers who do not know any better.  In over three decades of studying astrology, I have never encountered a factual explanation of cusps that justify their existence nor heard from any experienced astrologer that cusps have any validity.

The above is a good demonstration of irrationality at work.  When no justification for the arrival of the Aquarian age before 2150 can be supplied, astrologers have invented a solution that no one has proved or can substantiate.  In past times this is called `building your house on sand rather than rock’.  The house is going to fall down if built upon the sand. Cusps are made of sand.

What else is sand here – something very simple and totally overlooked?   There is no doubt that Christianity has a relationship with Pisces.  Pisces shares the fish symbol with Christianity and Pisces is also associated with mysticism and mystical religions, and religions based on salvation.  But the BIG question is, why should the Pisces age begin with the arrival of the avatar of Western culture?  Who said that ages must begin with a famous person?  What about Buddha, why could not the Pisces age be already in place when Buddha was alive around six centuries earlier?

The whole mess of an Aquarian age not arriving before 2150 is dependent on the unsubstantiated assumption that Jesus began the Pisces age.  When I have confronted some astrologers about this anomaly their eyes turn blank and their aura recedes because astrologers are not accustomed to think about the ages in general and the Aquarian age in particular.  Astrologers are deep thinkers, but not when it comes to the ages.  The astrological age topic is that one area in astrology where astrologers can dream up all manner of unsubstantiated nonsense and pretend it is true.   If this is how astrologers behave, no wonder the urban myths on the Aquarian age are in La-La-land.

If the Aquarian age arrived, say at 1970, then the Pisces age should have arrived at around 181 BC (1970 AD – 2150 = 181 BC).  What happened around 181 BC to indicate a major historical shift in gears?  Nothing!  There is no reason to believe that the Pisces age arrived around 181 BC.  However this does not mean that 181 BC was not in the Pisces age.

The upshot of all this is that from a simplistic and obvious point of view the Age of Aquarius has arrived.  What have ipods, cell phones, large-screen LCD TVs, super-jumbo jets, Facebook and blogs got to do with Pisces?  What astrologers have failed to recognize here is that unless astrology ‘works’ it is useless.  Unless the ages ‘work’ why even refer to them.  If the evidence suggests that the Aquarian age has arrived, why not investigate this to discover the real truth about the ages in general and the Age of Aquarius in particular?  Why not look at the evidence and avoid the idle and unfounded speculation?

Will the Age of Aquarius Solve the Problems of the World?

What is it about the Aquarian age that makes many people feel history will go against itself and create a problem-free age?  Has there ever been a problem-free age?  Perhaps every time the Age of Aquarius turns up around every 26,000 years the world takes a sabbatical from wars, violence, anger, catastrophes and natural disasters and creates a totally different age compared to all the other ages?

As ridiculous as this sounds, there is an element of truth to this concept.  Of all the twelve zodiacal signs, Aquarius is the one sign that is the different, radical or eccentric sign.  In other words Aquarius behaves very differently to the other eleven zodiacal signs.  Therefore if Aquarius behaves very different to the other signs, and if historically the other ages are full of problems, logic says that in the Aquarian age it should not have these problems.  Unfortunately this is faulty logic.

The reason that the logic is faulty is that it can be very different in the Aquarian age compared to other ages, but continue to be full of major problems, or problems of a very different nature.  How about this for a different kind of major problem – in this age, for the first time in history, the world may be destroyed or severely affected by humans due to the use of their nuclear arsenal or from the effects of pollution. Have humans previously been capable of destroying the world?

There is another way of approaching the difference associated with the Aquarian age compared to other ages.  If the difference is so fundamental between the sign of Aquarius and the other eleven zodiacal signs represented in the astrological ages then we should also see this with people. Have you noticed that Aquarians stand out from other people as being problem-free or saint-like?  If you have then you must know some incredibly rare Aquarian.  There is no evidence whatsoever that Aquarians are problem-free or better than the other signs.  The great people of the world are not overly represented by Aquarius, if they are then this would be one of the greatest secrets in astrology!

Unless there is some evidence to suggest that Aquarius is better than the other eleven zodiacal signs there is no reason to believe that the Aquarian age will be better than any other age.  If the Aquarian age is not better than any other age then why would the world be problem-free in the Age of Aquarius?

The world is very different in this Aquarian age to date compared to the known historical events of any other age.  No other age has seen the human population anywhere near current levels.  In no other age could humans light up the world at night (with Aquarius electricity) so that it is observable from space.  In no other age could some people fly, watch TV and have all the labor savings devices available in this modern Age of Aquarius.  In no other age has any human walked on the Moon.

What is noticeable to date from the Aquarian age is that the benefits seem much greater compared to previous ages and the problems see much greater compared to earlier ages.  This in itself satisfies the Aquarian archetype that it must be somehow fundamentally different to other ages.

The Age of Aquarius is not going to save the world.  The Age of Aquarius is not going to raise your consciousness.  The future of the world depends upon the sum of all the people in the world.  It is what all the people in the world do that will make things happen.  Judging by its track record to date, the problems and benefits in the Age of Aquarius will be much greater than previous.  However, there is every reason to believe from the evidence provided by astrology that in this age of uncertainty, there is a much higher chance than normal that the world is heading for a mini-golden age associated with the Libra age-decan of the Age of Aquarius that will be firmly in place by around the middle of the next century (the 22nd century). Is America Entering a New Victorian Era?

Journalists, historians, anthropologists and social commentators often observe historical cycles better than the average person including astrologers because they pay great attention to the unfolding of events.  This is certainly the case with the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century – a century most prominent historians consider being the most important century of recent times for numerous reasons as well as being the demarcation century between Medievalism and Modernity.  The modern world has sprung out of the 15th century.  The claim that a new age began in the 20th century is simply absurd to historians.

One observant journalist, Michael Barone, writing in the conservative Townhall.com,[1] asks if the USA is returning to Victorian values.  He first notes that 47 years ago with the opening of the musical “Hair” that the audience was informed that America was entering the Age of Aquarius and therefore the old moral rules were extinct.  He then acknowledges the massive rise in divorce, cohabitation and illegitimate births in the following decades supporting the concept of the beginning of a new period.

However, Barone now claims that recent trends indicate a return to Victorian values in contrast to the expectation of the freedom-seeking hippies of the 1960s that the Age of Aquarius would continue indefinitely.  The social changes Barone refers to in the USA are the significant decline in teenage sexual activity since 1988, in both males and females, coinciding with a sharp decline in teenage births and drop in the rate of abortions.  Other contemporary Victorian values include new college rules against male-female sexual contact.  Baone referred to a recent poll which indicated that 63% of Americans are uncomfortable with American’s society direction on social issues.  Barone has stated:

“Even the legalization and vastly increased approval of same-sex marriage has a Victorian aspect. The early same-sex marriage advocates Andrew Sullivan and Jonathan Rauch argued that marriage would domesticate homosexuals. There’s logic to that — marriage inevitably includes elements of restriction and restraint — and we will see how it works out.”

In conclusion, Barone suggests that the USA is moving away from the Age of Aquarius and instead heading towards a new Victorian Era.

From the astrological perspective, this is fascinating because, while the sub-periods of the Age of Aquarius do support the recent trend towards a new Victorianism, as suggested by Barone, it does not suggest any long term deviation from the direction of the Age of Aquarius.  The traditional dates for the Victorian era are 1837 to 1901[2] – a period of 64 years and remarkably close to the length of a sub-age decan (see the Age of Aquarius for Dummies).

The Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970) commenced with the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) with the highpoint of Cancer associated with the Cancer quasi sub-age (1821 – 1881).  There was a strong overlap between the Cancer sub-age decan and the Victorian era.   The term “Victorian morality” can be used to describe any set of values that promote sexual restraint, low tolerance of crime and a strict social code of conduct.  However the hypocrisy of Victorian time’s has also been widely noted  as prostitution and child labor was endemic.

The world is not returning to Victorian era values aligned to the Cancer sub-age decan, but we are in the middle of a small but temporarily strong Cancer period.  Currently the world is at the peak of the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000-2014-2029) and so there will be a short term exposure to archetypes associated with Cancer. Such archetypes as shyness, reticence and meekness are associated with Cancer and hedonism is associated with Cancer’s opposite sign Capricorn, so Cancer periods can be anti-hedonistic periods.  The current Cancer period however is not an era, we are in fact in an era defined by Gemini – the first sub-age decan of the current Libra sub-age (1970 – 2148).  The next time your see someone transfixed by their cellphone or tablet, think Gemini era!

There is a common misconception in the press and urban myth that the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 1960s and 70s but has come and gone.  Firstly the Age of Aquarius did not arrive in the 20th century.  What arrived in the 1960s was a peak at the center of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791-1970-2148).  The commonality between Scorpio and Aquarius is that they are both revolutionary signs, and so revolution was definitely in the air in the 1960s and 70s.  The Age of Aquarius is like an incoming tide.  In an incoming tide, every wave does not extend further up the beach compared to the previous wave – but on average, the waves slowly move up the beach.

So, while Barone may be incorrect in concluding that the Age of Aquarius has been shunted aside by a new Victorian conservative future, his perception of Cancer archetypes in both the Victorian era and current period is perceptive and relevant.  I prefer to refer to non-astrologers for historical assessments as historians, journalists etc are experts in their field, while astrologers are only experts in astrology unless the individual astrologer is also an historian, journalist etc.  This is why so many astrologers make the utterly absurd claim that the Age of Aquarius has recently arrived.  Its like saying the Telephone Age began with the Apple iphone!
