Ukraine’s Birthday Cake Candles

Why is Ukraine in Russia’s gunsights?  It seems to be an issue of synchronicity. The history of Ukraine is clouded in obscurity, but the first farmers to settle this part of Europe is believed to have occurred in the Age of Gemini-Taurus (5010 – 2862 BC) combined with the Capricorn age-decan (5010 -4294 BC) and by 4500 BC a distinct flourishing culture existed.

Table 1 – The Taurus age combined with the Gemini age overflow with age-decans and their respective overflows

It is not necessary to find the exact beginning of a country, culture or region, as any associated astrological signature can also usually be determined from periods of might or glory, and subsequent highpoints.  Ukraine’s first claim to glory was Vladimir the Great (980–1015 AD) and his son, Yaroslav the Wise (1019–1054 AD), when the Golden Age of Kievan Rus’ reached the zenith of its cultural development and military power.  After an interregnum, Vladimir II Monomakh (1113–1125 AD) and his son Mstislav (1125–1132 AD) had the final fling.

Therefore the period 980 to 1132 AD provides the key to Ukraine’s astrological signature, combined with the early farmers under Gemini, Taurus and Capricorn. The most relevant common sign is the Taurus quasi sub-age (986 – 1165 AD) formed as the highpoint of the full Taurus sub-age and overflow (896 – 1075 – 1254).  This is obviously resonating with the first farmers at the beginning of the Taurus age.  Ukraine’s Taurus credential is exemplified by the fact that Ukraine is called the ‘breadbasket of Europe’.  Ukraine’s soil is very rich, and in Soviet times, Ukraine produced 25% of agricultural output for the whole USSR.

The first part of modern Ukraine’s baptism was Vladimir the Great (not to be mistaken with Vladimir Putin) and his son which occurred in the Cancer quasi age-decan (359 – 1075 AD), and this aligns to the Viking origin of both Ukraine and Russian royalty, as the Vikings rode the Cancer quasi age-decan (359 – 1075 AD) in their conquests and inroads throughout much of Europe.  Cancer is a key part of Ukraine’s astrological signature – and Russia for exactly the same reason as they both have some common origins.  Also strongly associated with the initial period of Ukrainian glory was the Gemini sub-age overflow (896 – 1075 AD).  The final ingredient is Capricorn from the Capricorn sub-age decan overflow (955 – 1015 AD) which is also resonating back to the original farmers.

The potential astrological signature for Ukraine contains Taurus, Gemini, Cancer and Capricorn, and all four zodiacal signs are strongly stimulated at the beginning of 2022.  The current Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2149) sees the 7th house of Taurus activated, which has witnessed chaos and upheaval for Ukraine as Scorpio will undermine any Taurus country.  Ukraine was quickly absorbed into the USSR in 1922 – which is a continuation of a long term relationship between Ukraine and Russia.  Scorpio does not bring favors to a Taurus-aligned Ukraine, and the Scorpio sub-age and overflow is currently in its strongest quarter over the course of its period of influence (1791 – 1970 – 2149)

Without getting into too much detail, the current anti-Russian government of Ukraine had a turbulent start in 2013 but in the following year the pro-European faction with the support of the majority of Ukrainians took control of the government.  Crimean freedom fighters with assistance from Russia extracted themselves from Ukraine and were annexed by Russia in the same year with most Crimean’s of Russian ethnicity.  Therefore 2014 was a critical year for an independent Ukraine.  This occurred at the highpoint of the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029) in the Gemini sub-age decan (1970 – 2029), with these two signs combined with the Scorpio sub-age overflow in opposition to Taurus and thus activating three out of the fours signs in Ukraine’s probable astrological signature.  In the beginning of 2022, all four signs are activated.   Until June 2022, the world is in the Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 2019 – Feb 2021 – Jun 2022) bringing in the fourth sign of Ukraine’s astrological signature.  This is why all the attention is currently on Ukraine – all its birthday candles are lit.

Table 2 – The Capricorn nano-age overflow concludes in June 2022 leaving Sagittarius the key sign for the second half of 2022.  The arrival of the Scorpio nano-age is not problematical for Taurus-aligned Ukraine as Scorpio is in its weakest phase.

The interesting aspect of this confrontation between Russia and Ukraine is they both have very similar zodiacal signatures and have a history like conjoined twins. The early Ukrainian period of Vladimir the Great and his son did not just lay the foundation of Ukraine, but also of Russia.  Russia and Ukraine are like conjoined twins that have been separated, but Russia wants both halves rejoined but under the control of the thuggish twin.  All Cancer-associated countries are accentuated at present due to the Cancer micro-age overflow (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) and we are not only seeing belligerence from Cancer Russia, but also from Cancer China.

Russia does appear to have Aquarius in its astrological signature, as Russia historically and currently is always the odd country – the exception to the norm.  Currently, the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) is in force, and this will further empower and propel Russia in its endeavors to reestablish the old USSR borders, and this is what it is trying to do.  It wants to roll back the collapse of the USSR in 1991 and reestablish an extended Russian empire that itself was based on autocratic power similar to how most pre-modern countries were politically controlled.  Will Russia succeed against Ukraine?

The Gemini association is probably the key sign in this Russian-Ukraine conflict.  Ukraine was settled under the Gemini-Taurus age, with Gemini the senior sign.  The formative period for modern Ukraine occurred in the Gemini-Taurus sub-age but again, Gemini was the senior sign.  The strongest Gemini period since the 11th century is the current Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088).

The geopolitical fate of the world currently sits with the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) and specifically its highpoint – the Gemini quasi sub-age decan (2000 – 2059).  Gemini prefers fragmentation and differentiation such as Great Britain leaving the European Union and Barcelona attempting to escape Spain.  This fragmentation process will accelerate from 2029 onward.  Gemini is opposite the sign Sagittarius – the sign of expansion.  It does not bode well for Russia’s or China’s medieval expansionary programs based on intimidation, force and coercion.  However, this does not mean they will not make some valiant attempts. But any gains are bound to be short-lived because the approaching Capricorn micro-age decan and overflow (2029 – 2039) of the approaching Taurus micro-age (2029 – 2044) will bring no favors to Cancer-associated countries such as Russia and China.

Early 2022 is orientated towards Aries, so if we avoid the threat of conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and combined with the Aries-associated Omicron strain of COVID-19 and the Winter Olympics, we will be fortunate.  For more details, see 2022 in the Age of Aquarius.  The Capricorn nano-age overflow concludes in June 2022, and will be replaced by Sagittarius.  Therefore any incursion into Ukraine by Russia would probably occur before mid-2022 while dour old doomy Capricorn has influence.  It’s unlikely to occur while the Winter Olympic Games are in progress in China otherwise the Russians will have to bear the backlash from China as well as most western nations.

Finally, as one historian stated, who can name a war that the protagonist has ultimately won in modern times?  This followed another statement that “all wars are based on lies”.  The Afghan war by the USA and its allies cost billions but to what benefit?  The invasion of Kuwait by Iraq was seriously rebuffed, the Viet Nam War by the USA , the invasion of Poland by Germany commencing the 2nd World War and so on demonstrate the utter stupidity of starting a war – which does not include civil wars.  When did the last protagonist win a war that did not ultimately reverse?  Even in the USA’s infancy, it failed to conquer Canada! Perhaps the occasional was or conflict is won by the protagonists – but it seems to be a rarity?

Unfortunately, major war or conflict appears to be heading our way, but it is unlikely in 2022.  The second half of this decade is a different issue.  Perhaps Russia will invade Ukraine, or China invades Taiwan in a few years, or North Korea goes even more ballistic. For more information, see The Next BIG Thing.  In the meantime, all the candles of Ukraine’s birthday cake are lit up, at least until mid-2022 – another Samson and Goliath story?

2022 in the Age of Aquarius

This will be the first year with ‘punch’ since 2020 when COVID-19 first made its influence felt to an unsuspecting world. Therefore we can expect that the world will move on from the dominance that COVID has had in world affairs as a new punch usually indicates a new focus or direction.  However, despite this new influence, it is unlikely that COVID will disappear in 2022. The reason why 2022 has gravitas is due to a change in the quasi micro-age that only occurs once about every 15 years.  The larger the timeframe involved, the greater the impact.

This astrological perspective on 2022 is focused upon sub-periods of the Age of Aquarius.  These sub-periods are primarily:

  • Nano-ages (approx. 15 months) with 12 nano-ages in each micro-age
  • Micro-age-decans (approx. 5 years) with 3 micro-age decans in each micro-age
  • Micro-ages (almost 15 years) with 12 micro-ages in a sub-age
  • Quasi-periods such as quasi-nano ages, quasi micro-age decan, quasi micro-ages etc. are all derived from their core period. For example, the Cancer quasi micro-age (Jul 2007 –  Jun 2022 ) is derived from the Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) commencing at the exact midpoint of the Cancer micro-age (Jul 2007) and concluding at the exact midpoint of the following Cancer micro-age overflow (Jun 2022) which corresponds tothe Gemini micro-age. The quasi period always represents the upper half of the bellcurve.

[For further background information on the sub-periods of the astrological ages, see The Age of Aquarius for Dummies ]

Capricorn nano-age and overflow (Dec 2019 – Mar 2021 – Jun 2022)

Nano-ages, at about 15 months each (and 30 months influence if the overflow period is included), may be the smallest division of an astrological age that I employ with some confidence, but they certainly make an impact.  Due to these nano-ages, 2022 should be a year of relatively better news and optimism in comparison to previous years – at least since the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in December 2019.  This is due to a change in nano-ages in June 2022.  The Capricorn nano-age and overflow has been with us since the beginning of the pandemic – which makes total sense, as a pandemic does not bring good news or an optimistic environment – the exact opposite is more accurate.

Capricorn is dark, restrictive, limiting and serious such as mandates, lockdowns and travel restrictions. For nearly everyone in the world, this has brought limitations such as wearing masks, restricted access to live entertainment, many businesses being forced to shut down or limit their activity, loss or interruption to employment, restrictions on international travel, and in some countries, many states imposed a hard state border and seriously limited movement across the state lines.  Even as I write, I can cross the state border that is only one hour drive away, but I cannot get back home unless I quarantine for two weeks at great expense – unless I have a legitimate reason – going to the beach is not acceptable.  This restriction is due to lift in mid-December 2022.  However, as a consequence of this ‘restriction’, my state has been relatively COVID-free for nearly all of the pandemic and apart from sometimes wearing masks, and logging into venues attended, it’s been life as normal!

Table 1 – the Sagittarius nano-age and overflow interfacing with adjoin nano-ages

The Capricorn nano-age and overflow is more potent in its second half (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022) which is why the world has experienced more hardship in 2021 compared to 2000 – the first year of the pandemic (see Table 1 above).  The main instigator of the new sourer mood is the Delta variant of COVID-19.  The Delta variant was named soon after the beginning of the deeper Capricorn period in May 2021 and by June 2021 was becoming the dominant strain globally.

The interesting aspect of the Delta variant is that it originated in India, and Capricorn is a key sign in India’s astrological signature.  Such was the affinity between Capricorn and India, India experienced a surge in cases due to the Delta variant even before the Capricorn overflow period had arrived.  This variant meant that the virus was able to spread quickly amongst the populations of many regions of the world as it was 40% and 60% more transmissible than earlier common variants and causes more severe illness.

This Capricorn nano-age can also breed a recession, but considering that it has had since March 2021 to start a recession, this possibility is fading fast in 2022. For more details, see The Dynamics of Economic Recessions in the Age of Aquarius. However, many countries have expereinced a decline in economic output, which may continue until mid 2022.

With the conclusion of the Capricorn period in June 2022, we can expect fewer inroads upon societies, less restrictions, limitations and so on – but not necessarily the end of the pandemic as the pandemic is not solely linked to this Capricorn period.

Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022 – Aug 2023)

One of the biggest influences that will appear in mid-2022 is the second half of the Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (see Table 1).  Sagittarius has been percolating around in the background since March 2021 mainly related to the beneficial impact of vaccinations.  Various major vaccines became available in late 2020 and early 2021 and by November 2021, it is estimated that around 50% of the world’s population had been vaccinated.  A number of countries reduced their restriction accordingly and expressed optimism on the return to partial normality, but serious flares up continue to plague many countries due to the strong presence of Capricorn.  However, some relaxation of international travel occurred for many countries, something close to Sagittarius’ heart!

For example, as of November 2021, the USA eased travel restrictions for vaccinated travelers, marking a milestone in ending the pandemic. Even in Australia, in October 2021, the government announced the end of the blanket ban on foreign travel by Australian citizens, with some normal international flights commencing in early November 2021.  This new optimism is also flagged by the developing Sagittarius period. Sitting in the middle of the Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022 – Aug 2023) is the Sagittarius quasi nano-age (Oct 2021 – Jan 2023) and October 2021 represented a shift up in gear for Sagittarius.  This is exactly what happened.

Before the arrival of Sagittarius at full strength in June 2022, there will be one more gear change, albeit less pronounced, as the Sagittarius nano-age has three nano-age decans, and the Sagittarius nano-age decan (Jan 2022 – Jun 2022) should continue to further promote optimism and international travel compared to beforehand.

Sagittarius can breed inflation, and there are already signs that this occurring – so it should pick up speed mid-2022 and promote an inflationary economic period well into 2023.

The Sagittarius coup de gras will occur in June 2022 when the exhausted Capricorn nano-age and overflow will leave the field of play, and Sagittarius will enter its most potent quarter extending from June 2022 until January 2023.  It is unlikely that COVID-19 will depart in mid-2022 but it does suggest that a combination of vaccination and herd immunity may have cornered COVID leaving it as a more peripheral influence upon most societies around the world.

Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024)

Another key player, if not the lead player in the pandemic, is the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) as Aquarius is the greatest disruptive sign in the zodiac.  More people in the world have been more disrupted by the pandemic compared to anything else since the end of the Second World War. Therefore, it is very possible that COVID-19 will maintain a dwindling presence in the world until around November 2024 with just enough energy to continue its disruption – but at a reduced level.  This is strongly supported by the fact that in June 2022, the Aquarius quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2017 – Jun 2022) concludes, and therefore Aquarius will drop down a gear – but not disappear!

Libra quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2022 – May 2027)

The exit of the Aquarius quasi micro-age decan in June 2022 is replaced by the Libra quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2022 – May 2027), and Libra has been with us since December 2019 – but in its weakest quarter.  The arrival of the Libra quasi micro-age decan in June 2022 does increase the influence of Libra and this is bound to manifest itself in some way.  This could increase the focus of the role women have in society, new female leaders or some kind of female leadership breakthrough in the world, and due to Libra’s association with major blocs and alliances, the likelihood of some new international crisis leading to conflict or even war cannot be ruled out.  However, the more likely time for such a major alignment of international forces against each other is mooted when Libra is at full strength in the five-year period commencing November 2024.  Therefore, while I do not expect a major international conflict in 2022, a small possibility remains. (See The Next BIG Thing )

Nevertheless, there could be rising tensions associated with this approaching conflict, and these may become more prolific from June 2022 onward as Libra provokes an already dividing world.  Recently, China has been railing against the return of something like the Cold War reflecting back to the second half of the 20th century when the world was divided between the Free World and the Communist Bloc.  This coincided with the Pisces sub-age decan overflow (1910 – 1970) and bipolar signs such as Gemini, Libra and Pisces tend to split the world. Following the Pisces bipolar world we have existed under the influence of mono Scorpio, but this mono-world is showing signs of fracture due to the growing strength of Gemini.  The world is in the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2059) with its strongest effects from 2029 onward.  The world is indeed returning to a major split that will affect much of this decade and century, and one small step towards this widening rift will transpire from mid-2022 onward.

Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014 – Nov 2029)

The third player in the pandemic is the Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which experienced its most potent quarter from December 2014 to June 2022.  Firstly, Cancer is often associated with plagues as Cancer is linked to the immune system because Cancer is the defensive sign without a backbone. This means that as of mid-2022, Cancer is coming off the boil, and so this will have a significant effect.  Secondly, Cancer is the sign of the general public, and when the general public is stronger than usual, they tend to elect populace leaders that will pander to their knee-jerk desires.  Under Cancer, Capricorn’s wisdom, logic and shrewdness get thrown out the window, and so leaders like Donald Trump can get elected president, the UK can vote for Brexit and the Philippine president can order the summary execution of drug users with apparent impunity. The other side of the lack of wisdom and logic is the spectacular growth of conspiracy theories where belief is elevated to being fact and lies can be called alternative facts!

From June 2022 onward, the Cancer influence does not disappear, but it does drop, so while populace leaders, with their thinly disguised anti-liberal and anti-democratic policies, will not just disappear, the ground they are standing upon is no longer as solid.  This waning Cancer influence in mid-2022 is not limited to populace leaders but a whole range of subjects strongly associated with Cancer such as the Middle East, Mediterranean Sea, Islam and China to name some major players.  All these areas have been greatly energized by Cancer, with 9/11 near the beginning of the Cancer period dramatically demonstrating its presence.

We can expect China to pull back from its stunning growth rate of recent decades, and there are signs this has already commenced, the Islamic terrorist and revolutionary influence will subside a little, the Middle East will stop being such a center of attention and the impact of Islam upon the wider world will also pull back. Refugees are just people looking for a new (Cancer) homeland, so there should also be a reduced impact of refugees or illegal immigrants as many governments prefer to label them.

Whatever is associated with Cancer, as indicated above, will subside – but Cancer’s ongoing influence will remain in place until the end of this decade at least – but not at the same intensity as we have been experiencing for the last 15 years.  Of course, the subsidence of Cancer creates a vacuum, and this vacuum will be filled by Gemini.

Gemini quasi micro-age (Jun 2022 – Apr 2037)

The arrival of the Gemini quasi micro-age in mid-2022 is the most noteworthy astrological event associated with 2022 for a number of reasons.  Firstly, it is the most ‘major’ of all the changes in 2022 and historically, such a change can create or precipitate the ‘next big thing’.  The previous arrival in 2007 of a quasi micro-age was the Cancer quasi micro-age (Jul 2007 – Jun 2022).  July 2007 marks the exact month that the Subprime crisis began as the following extract from Wikipedia explains:

“As housing prices fell, global investor demand for mortgage-related securities evaporated. This became apparent by July 2007, when investment bank Bear Stearns announced that two of its hedge funds had imploded. These funds had invested in securities that derived their value from mortgages. When the value of these securities dropped, investors demanded that these hedge funds provide additional collateral. This created a cascade of selling in these securities, which lowered their value further. Economist Mark Zandi wrote that this 2007 event was “arguably the proximate catalyst” for the financial market disruption that followed.”[1]

and

“The crisis had severe, long-lasting consequences for the U.S. and European economies. The U.S. entered a deep recession, with nearly 9 million jobs lost during 2008 and 2009, roughly 6% of the workforce. The number of jobs did not return to the December 2007 pre-crisis peak until May 2014.”[2]

Notice how May 2014 is just before the end of the Cancer micro-age in December 2014.  Therefore the Subprime mortgage crisis leading into the Great Recession (Global Financial Crisis) is bookended by the exact halfway point of the Cancer micro-age marked by the beginning of the Cancer quasi micro-age in July 2007 but concluded just before the end of the Cancer micro-age in December 2014. This Cancer association to the Subprime mortgage crisis is found by its strong links to financing (Cancer) homes.

The arrival of each new quasi micro-age is not all going to be of equal importance due to resonance. The arrival of the Cancer quasi micro-age associated with the Subprime mortgage crisis in the USA occurred in a Scorpio micro-age decan and overflow (Jan 2005 – Jan 2010 – Dec 2014) with the peak influence of Scorpio associated with the Scorpio quasi micro-age (Jul 2008 – Jul 2012) closely aligned to the Great Recession (2007 – 2009).  However, these Scorpio periods associated with relatively tiny micro-ages, decans and associated quasi periods are all resonating with the massive Scorpio sub-age overflow (1970 – 2149) and so these small Scorpio periods draw upon the highly powerful sign of Scorpio that will remain in its strongest quarter until 2059. This was an economic crisis waiting to occur! [see Appendix A for more details on previous quasi micro-age cusps]

There is enough input from previous quasi micro-age cusps to develop an outline of what can be expected at or following the Gemini quasi micro-age decan cusps in June 2022:

  • Gemini should make a significant impact upon the world including the internet,
  • There can be a stressful period for the first 15 months following the cusp because the first nano-age associated with the cusp is the Sagittarius nano-age overflow (Jun 2022 – Aug 2023) and Sagittarius will ‘stress’ Gemini!
  • The Gemini cusp in June 2022 feeds into the growing Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Oct 2024 – Nov 2029) that historically creates the next big thing to impact the world.

What can we expect from Gemini?  Will the internet become the focus of some kind of worldwide upheaval?  Google has warned of a surge in activity by government-backed hackers in 2021.[3]  A spectacular rise in ransomware attacks could occur?  Recently a UK spy agency disclosed that the number of ransomware attacks on British institutions had doubled in the past year.[4]  Will the internet become militarized or even be fragmentized with countries or regions blocking access from other parts of the world due to their nefarious online deeds? This possibility is explored in A cyber-attack with COVID-like characteristics?

Other Gemini archetypes that could get involved are: school students, journalists (Julian Assange?) and news organizations, cars and all forms of domestic transportations, postal organizations, tuberculosis and any lung disease (a primary organ associated already with COVID-19), cities, windmills, cyclones, typhoons and hurricanes, novels and novelists and so on.  Regions with a traditional association with Gemini include North East Africa, Armenia, Lower Egypt, London and Wales.[5]  In addition, I have tentatively associated the following countries with Gemini based on my research of the astrological ages: the Koreas, Iraq, Singapore and Syria.

Something associated with Gemini is likely to precipitate or lead into the biggest conflict the world has experienced since the Second World War, and though this conflict could commence at any time, it is more likely to appear, or appear in its full form, associated with the second half of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Oct 2024 – Nov 2029) commencing in October 2024.

Not all manifestations of Gemini archetypes from June 2022 onward need to lead to military conflict.  For example, we should expect an increase in student activism as maturing youth discover the world is turning into a poison chalice due to the exponentially deteriorating environmental conditions in the world.  Greta Thunberg and her peers are bound to make even a greater splash!  Also, 2022 is likely to be the fulcrum year for the greening of transportation around the world with the shift to electric and hydrogen cars, buses and trucks significantly picking up momentum, though this may be seen more readily in hindsight some years from now.

The Koreas must be of concern, as having North Korea following a maniacal political ideology and armed with nuclear weapons does not bode well. The Libra micro-age decan and overflow should focus upon the major political blocs in the world, as is the nature of Libra, and so any conflict, military or otherwise, is likely to involve Libra-aligned China on the one side, and the USA on the other with many other countries gravitating towards one side or the other.

Of course, there is always Taiwan – the growing elephant in the room.  Will Taiwan provoke the largest international conflict since the Second World War?  I do not know the astrological signature for Taiwan, but it is believed that Taiwanese indigenous peoples settled the island around 6,000 years ago (4000 BC?) placing this firmly under the Gemini age overflow (5010 BC – 2862 BC) which would automatically meld Gemini to Taiwan.  This could elevate Taiwan as the possible fuse for the coming international standoff or conflict?

There have been recent calls by China against the world deteriorating into the bipolar reality of the second half of the 20th century associated with the Cold War. This call by China is extremely unlikely to be heeded, as the world is accelerating towards a century and a half of polarization due to the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) compounded by the arrival of the Libra quasi sub-age in 2059. The world rarely unifies under bipolar zodiacal signs.

Aries nano-age decan overflow (Jan 2022 – Jun 2022).

There is a world of difference between a nano-age and a nano-age decan, but nano-age decans with a 5-month lead-in and a 5-month overflow do have a mild effect.  The Aries nano-age decan has been with since August 2021 – but only in its formative stage.  The Aries nano-age decan overflow commencing in January 2022 will heighten military tensions and aggressive tendencies around the world.

We have already seen some Aries-associated tension with the USA, Britain, Canada and Australia already applying a diplomatic boycott to the Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing China from 4th to 20th February 2022, but otherwise, it augers well for Aries sport provided it does not become an arena for international politics?  Aries, along with Mars and the 1st house has always had a health connotation, and it is possible that the Omicron variant of COVID 19 is associated with the Aries nano-age decan and overflow?  While the more powerful Aries nano-age decan overflow does not appear until January 2022, there is always a 4 stage structure associated with all ages and their sub-periods in macro-astrology.  Stage 2 should have commenced from around late October or early November 2021 increasing slightly the strength of this Aries period. Any COVID variant that does have a health impact in the first half of 2022 should have less impact and be short-lived in comparison to the Delta variant.

Table 2 – the 2022 nano-age decans and overflows superimposed upon the two applicable nano-ages

We can also expect that there will be some military tensions and examples of more aggression in the world under Aries in the first half of 2022.  For example, the Aries nano-age decan and overflow (Dec 2007 – Apr 2008) in the previous Sagittarius nano-age (Dec 2012 – May 2013), 28 people, including the gunman, were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Connecticut in mid-December 2012.[6] Other examples of Aries include bombs and bombings and multiple nuclear tests by North Korea, fires, damaging meteor strike.  [See Appendix B for details of the previous Sagittarius nano-age (Dec 2012 – May 2013) and more.]

The Russian-Nato standoff over Ukraine and Russia’s position on the former eastern European nations previously aligned to the USSR but now members of NATO has been simmering for some months by the end of 2021 and is obviously aligned to the full Aries nano-age and overflow (Aug 2021 – Jan 2022 – Jun 2022). This has the potential to get more heated or explosive under the overflow period commencing in January 2021.

We can expect the likes of a hyper-aggressive North Korea with more nuclear tests at a minimum, terrorist bombings which could easily be risky for the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing China in February 2022, but otherwise an archetypal excellent time for a sporting event ruled by Aries.  Unfortunately, school shootings or similar and destructive fires are also mooted.  Certainly some increased military activity.  Any negative activity associated with Aries will deflect a little from the growing optimism of Sagittarius, but Sagittarius should win out, and this should occur by June 2022 at the latest.

Sagittarius nano-age decan and overflow (Jan 2022 – Jun 2022 – Oct 2022)

This is just the most potent part of the larger Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022 – Aug 2023) and the optimism and good fortune associated with Sagittarius should be at its maximum in this period, especially in the seond half. Despite any aggressive Aries developments in early 2022, the optimism of the world still progressively increase in the first half of 2022, so this should ‘limit’ any explosions from Aries.

Cancer nano-age decan and overflow (Jun 2022 – Nov 2022 – Apr 2023)

This is a strong period to take note of, especially towards the end of 2022, because this resonates with the whole Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) and so this is one of those times where the might of Cancer can express itself best.  Despite the fact that June marks the official diminishment of the Cancer influence upon the world due to the end of the Cancer quasi micro-age, it is a quirk of the ages that any new quasi period (based on the 12 fold sign division) commences with a 1/12th influence of the previous zodiacal sign.  So the Cancer quasi micro-age comes to an end but is given a gift of a little more focus at the start of the Gemini quasi micro-age.  However, there is tension because while the focus temporarily returns to Cancer, the incoming Gemini quasi micro-age is creating a 12th house influence to Cancer.

This focus and tension upon Cancer will exacerbate negative issues associated with the Middle East, China, countries on the Mediterranean Sea, refugees looking for a new homeland, Islamic issues and even immunity issues taking into account COVID-19.  Some unpleasantness from populace leaders, conspiracy theorists and the growth of fiction that many people belive are facts should also be expected.  They have been with us for a while, but the amplitude of the problems in this area will be temporarily pronounced. This will be peaking from November 2022 into early 2023.

Scorpio nano-age (Jun 2022 – Aug 2023)

It is unlikely the world will respond much to this little Scorpio nano-age period as it will remain in its weakest part for the whole of 2022, and if it does raise its head in 2022, it will probably be some early signs of financial insecurity in the world – perhaps an increasingly skittish financial markets, or loan interest starting to rise or starting to have an economic impact?  Banking jitters are common with Scorpio periods.  The Scorpio story will be mainly focused upon 2023 but not in a major way – it usually takes a micro-age decan to strongly affect the world unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Conclusion

Despite forebodings about a major international crisis on the horizon in the years ahead, the major experience of 2022 will be the growing optimism and good fortune that Sagittarius will be progressively bringing to the world in the first half of 2022, and then, like a breaking wave, washing over the second half of 2022. Economic output and international travel will all benefit, though inflation may become an economic factor.  The return of optimism and positive outlooks is magnified by Capricorn leaving the field after it has finally lost the joust with Sagittarius.  It will not be all easy sailing as the Aries nano-age decan overflow will bring some small explosions in the first half of 2022.  Developments in larger truculent issues should also be noticeable as the world swings away from the crisis of the pandemic and starts actively looking for the next crisis or major development in world affairs which will appear like clockwork.

APPENDIX A – Previous Quasi Micro-Age Cusps

What occurred at the arrival of the Leo quasi micro-age (Sep 1992 – Jul 2007)?  There were two major developments plus one other notable change.  Only one month after the start, and under Deng Xiaoping, several market-oriented reformers were promoted to the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China.  This marked the acceleration of market reforms to establish a socialist market economy in China that sent China into economic overdrive and turned China into the second most powerful country in the world today.  The Leo relationship to China’s Cancer is that Leo rules the 2nd house to Cancer, and the 2nd house is about income and wealth – something that the market reforms of October 1992 relatively quickly brought to China.

China GDP Per Capita 1960-2021[7]

Almost equally notable, in January 1993 the European Economic Community eliminated trade barriers and created the European Union (EU) when the Maastricht Treaty came into force in 1993.  The EU now represents 18% of the world’s economy and it is classified as an emerging superpower. The main sign for Europe is traditionally Pisces, and its astrological signature appears to be Pisces-Aries, as opposed to the USA which is Pisces-Aquarius. The link to Pisces is that Leo rules the 8th house of shared resources to Pisces – and the EU is principally about shared resources.[8]

The arrival of the Clinton era in November 1992 with the defeat of the sitting president, George HW Bush created a mainly ‘bright’ time and Clinton left office with the highest end-of-term approval rating of any U.S. president since Franklin Roosevelt and his presidency has been ranked among the upper tier in historical rankings of U.S. presidents.  He brought to the presidency the closest likeness to President Kennedy and it was a rare Clinton speech without quoting JFK.  Following a devastating midterm defeat in 1994, Clinton decided he would govern mostly from the center, and the result was one of the most productive periods of any presidency in recent memory. His presidency reconnected Washington DC with Camelot.[9] Clinton was a manifestation of Leo with four planets located in Leo including his Sun – the Monica Lewinsky affair conforms to our expectations about Leo the lion.

APPENDIX B – Previous Aries nano-age decan and overflow

Aries nano-age decan and overflow (Dec 2007 – April 2008)

January 2013

  • More than 100 people were killed and 270 injured in several bomb blasts in Pakistan.
  • The French military began a 5-month intervention into the Northern Mali conflict, targeting the militant Islamist Ansar Dine group.
  • 39 international workers and 1 security guard died in a hostage crisis at a natural gas facility near In Aménas, Algeria.
  • An estimated 245 people died in a nightclub fire in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

February 2012

  • North Korea conducted its third underground nuclear test, prompting widespread condemnation and tightened economic sanctions from the international community.
  • A meteor explodes over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, injuring 1,489–1,492 people and damaging over 4,300 buildings. It is the most powerful meteor to strike Earth’s atmosphere in over a century. The incident, along with a coincidental flyby of a larger asteroid, prompts international concern regarding the vulnerability of the planet to meteor strikes.  (Note, it is interesting that a space mission was launched in November 2021 in the Aries nano-age decan to attempt to deflect an asteroid in September 2022 as a test for protecting the earth from future major asteroid strikes).[10]

March 2012

  • North Korea conducts its third underground nuclear test, prompting widespread condemnation and tightened economic sanctions from the international community.
  • A meteor exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, injuring 1,489–1,492 people and damaging over 4,300 buildings. It is the most powerful meteor to strike Earth’s atmosphere in over a century. The incident, along with a coincidental flyby of a larger asteroid, prompts international concern regarding the vulnerability of the planet to meteor strikes.
  • The Central African Republic President François Bozizé fled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, after rebel forces capture the nation’s capital, Bangui.

April 2012

  • The UN General Assembly adopted the Arms Trade Treaty to regulate the international trade of conventional weapons.
  • Chechnya-born Islamist brothers (one of whom was a United States citizen) detonated two bombs at the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States, killing 3 and injuring 264 others.
  • The 2013 Savar building collapse in Bangladesh, one of the worst industrial disasters in the world, kills 1,134 people.[11]

In the previous Aries nano-age decan overflow (May 2008 – Oct 2008) A fire broke out at Universal Studios Hollywood, resulting in widespread damage and reportedly destroying up to 175,000 master recordings by over 700 artists from the 1930s to 2000s.  A North Korean border guard shot a South Korean tourist dead.  Georgia invaded the breakaway state of South Ossetia, sparking a war with Russia and coincidentally, the 2008 Summer Olympics took place in Beijing, China. Air crashes also like Aries’ periods.

The Next BIG Thing! (Extended Version)

( Click here for the condensed version of this analysis )

Exhausted or bored with the COVID pandemic? What is the next big thing that will greatly impact the world?  What is a big thing?  If we start with contemporary history, 9/11 was the first big thing of this century.  As a consequence, the USA with the help of allies quickly invaded Afghanistan, found an excuse to invade Iraq in 2003 and resurrected the defacto Christian versus Islam modern Crusade against the infidels – the end result has been about as abysmal as the original Crusades about a thousand years earlier.  The next big thing to appear was the sub-prime mortgage crisis (2007 – 2010) in American real estate mortgages leading to the Global Recession (Global Financial Crisis).

Following or overlapping with the above, the Arab Spring commencing in Tunisia and soon spread to Libya, Egypt, Yemen, Syria, and Bahrain with unrest in Morocco, Iraq, Algeria, Iranian Khuzestan, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, and Sudan concluding by around 2012.  Out of the Arab Spring, or following Arab Winter (which extended to 2019 at least), evolved the Islamic State (ISIS) and by 2014 ISIS was able to drive Iraqi troops out of key cities and it even captured Mosel which it held until 2017.

Next came populace leaders such as Donald Trump (USA), Narendra Modi (India), Andrés Manuel López Obrador (Mexico), Matteo Salvini (Italy), Jair Bolsonaro (Brazil), Rodrigo Duterte (Philippines) and Boris Johnson (UK).  These populace leaders have usually polarized their societies and depending upon which side you take, they will make their country great again or are throwbacks to a previous uglier time in the world.  Finally, to cap off these two decades was COVID-19 creating the greatest disruption in the world since the Second World War. Based on precedent, there is every reason to believe that the world will continue to stumble from one upset or disaster to another as was the case with the first two decades of the 21st century, not to mention the last many thousands of years of disasters and turmoil that have plagued our world yet surprisingly, has never permanently dampened the human spirit.

The above provides a context for the extent of what the next big thing may be, but exactly what is next in line?  This may be answered by recognizing the hidden structure that strongly influences all of the above.  The hidden structure is the sub-periods of the current Age of Aquarius.  The most relevant sub-periods associated with the above are micro-ages and micro-age decans.  Each age of some 2150 years has 12 sub-ages of around 178 years, and these each have 12 micro-ages of slightly less than 15 years, and naturally, any decan will be a third – or nearly five years.

Table 1 – the Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Nov 2029) including all micro-age decans and the following Gemini micro-age and overflow.

Table 1 outlines the relationship between these major events and the micro-ages and micro-age decans in effect:  The key common sign for the first three decades of the 21st century is Cancer due to the Cancer micro-age and overflow (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014 – Nov 2029).  Under the sign Cancer, there is a strong focus on Islamic nations as Islam is strongly associated with Cancer, being a Pisces-Cancer religion compared to its sibling Christianity which is a Pisces-Scorpio religion.  This helps explain the whole Islamic orientation of world politics since 9/11 commencing with the 9/11 attack on the USA, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the Arab Spring (and Winter) and the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban in 2021.

The Cancer micro-age (Feb 2000 – Dec 2014) commenced with the Leo micro-age decan overflow (Feb 2000 – Jan 2005) but Aquarius is the second strongest sign in the astrological signature for the USA (age empire of the Pisces-Aquarius age).  Leo will ‘attack’ Aquarius, which played out with 9/11.  The overlapping Pisces micro-age decan focused upon the primary sign for the USA which it harnessed in its invasion of Iraq in 2003 and its success is attributable to the Pisces quasi micro-age decan (Nov 2003 – Jul 2007) and not shown in Table 1.  All quasi periods indicate the upper half of the bell curve of strength and are derived from the combined second half of its foundation period and first half of its overflow period.

The Dot.com crash of 2000 is also worth mentioning as it was due to investors’ interest in internet-related companies which increased to a frenzied level following massive growth and adoption of the internet.  Under the Leo micro-age decan overflow (Feb 2000 – Jan 2005) Aquarius technology was under ‘attack’ due to Aquarius and Leo being opposite signs.  In April 2000 the Nasdaq Composite index fell 25% in just one week.

The sub-prime mortgage crisis (2007 – 2010) is readily associated with Cancer as homes are ruled by Cancer, and its appearance in 2007 basically coincided with the arrival of the Cancer quasi micro-age (Jul 2007 – Jun 2022) (not shown in Table 1) shifting Cancer up a gear.  There is also a strong Pisces element as the whole sub-prime fiasco was the typical American smoke-and-mirrors that American capitalists are regularly able to pull from their hat of deceptive tricks.

The path to the Great Recession (2007 – 09) is readily associated with the Scorpio micro-age decan and overflow (Jul 2007 – Jul 2012 – Dec 2014), and though this recession was nominally only a few years, it dampened the economies of many countries for many more years.  This same Scorpio micro-age decan and overflow (Jul 2007 – July 2012 – Dec 2014) also provided the revolutionary impetus for the Arab Spring (Dec 2010 – late 2014)[1] with Cancer also playing a dominant background influence.

Cancer is also the sign of populace leaders because Cancer is the sign of the common people and is opposite Capricorn – the sign of wisdom of the elders or wise people.  Though elements of populace leaders appeared before the Cancer micro-age overflow such as Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee alongside Arizona Senator John McCain, it was not until the Cancer micro-age overflow commencing December 2014 that they became a worldwide phenomenon. For example, Donald Trump won the US presidential elections in November 2015 and Rodrigo Duterte became president of the Philippines on 30 June 2016.

Cancer produces the anti-leader as under Cancer, the general public is more attuned to having their base political needs met, and will support anyone who panders to their desires regardless of the consequences as there is no future involved in the equation created by Cancer.  Cancer is also the hypersensitive sign of fear, and much of the policies of populace leaders was and is to stoke inherent fears of their supporters – especially by demonizing the objects of their fears – be they people of a different race, religion or attitudes, especially liberal attitudes.  This is why president Duerte of the Philippines was able to get away with the state-sponsored murder of drug users as the public feared them.

The nascent Aquarius element from the Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 14 – Dec 19) also feeds into these populace leaders (as it did in the 1920s and 30s) as community, social and political norms are radicalized by Aquarius – Aquarius and Cancer are also associated with mental instability and helps explain the rise of conspiracy babble around the world that behaves like a virus!

Finally, the COVID-19 pandemic came to international attention the very same month that the Aquarius micro-age decan (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019) entered its more powerful Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024).  Aquarius is the sign of disruption, and the greatest disruption that human society has withstood to date was under the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 2025 – 1940) which saw the First World War, Spanish flu, Great Depression, communism and the beginning of the Second World War.  The associated Aquarius quasi micro-age decan (Jun 2017 – Jun 2022) deemphasizes Aquarius to a certain extent in mid-2022 suggesting that this is around the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, or that it is all over bar some final angst in scattered counties around the world manifesting as the pandemic of the unvaccinated.

One of the truly surprising fruits of my research into the astrological ages and their sub-periods is that it is the decans that generally provide the most relevant insights.  For example, the previous big things since 2000 are mostly associated with micro-age decans.  It is these micro-age decans that provide the necessary background on the next big thing.

To gain a better understanding of what the next big thing may be, it is necessary to see what follows the Aquarius micro-age decan.  What ‘follows’ in macro-astrology is always an overlapping influence (as Table 2 indicates).  Firstly, since December 2014, the world entered the Cancer micro-age overflow (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) but in December 2014 arrived the overlapping Gemini micro-age and overflow (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029 – Sep 2044) which commenced with the Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024).  The next cab off the rank is the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) and as usual, the second half is always the most powerful half.  It is Libra that provides the nexus for the next big thing with the emphasis on November 2024 to November 2029.

Table 2

You may be in for a big surprise with Libra – I certainly was!  I have just completed extensive research on every Libra micro-age and Libra micro-age decan that has appeared in the world since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433.  It is only through solid research that some confidence can be achieved in any predictive process.  A naïve expectation of a Libra micro-age decan is that it may promote art, women, justice, parties, alliances, parks and gardens and so on.  Well, I can confirm that all these are associated with nearly every Libra micro-age or micro-age decan, but the most notable and strongest element associated with these Libra periods is not only war and conflict, but war and conflict at the upper level of possibilities and that usually breaks new ground in its extent and destruction.

Following are extracts from my previous research with the focus upon the details of war and conflict in previous Libra micro-ages or micro-age decans since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius:

Libra micro-age and overflow (March 1463 – March 1478 – March 1493)

In 1482 King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, whose marriage finally united Christian Spain, started the Granada War (Reconquista) to expel their multi-centuries opponents in Spain – the Islamic Moors back to Africa. The Reconquista was successfully brought to an end by Spain in 1491 (near the end of this Libra period in early 1493).  This was a major adjustment and enhancement to the map of Europe.  Spain quickly became the world superpower of the times due to its unification and the conquest of the New World following the discoveries of Christopher Columbus of the Americas in 1492.

In Britain, the War of the Roses commenced before this Libran period but was mainly resolved within it (under Libra, an existing conflict can get resolved).  After Richard III from the House of York was killed and his forces defeated, Henry VII from the House of Lancaster took the throne and married Elizabeth of York, the eldest daughter and heir of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville, thereby again uniting the claims from the two Houses. The House of Tudor ruled England until 1603, with the death of Elizabeth I, granddaughter of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York.

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – December 1532 – November 1537)

This period witnessed a major European division with the ‘divorce’ of England from the Roman Catholic Church over the issues of multiple (Libra) marriages by King Henry VIII.  This breakup occurred simultaneously with the beginning of the Protestant movement in earnest spearheaded by Martin Luther in Germany leading to a major religious-political schism in Europe. Spain and Portugal were dividing the world in two preparing for the massive European invasion of the world over the following centuries and the Austrian and Turks commenced a bitter 150 years of conflict. This period closely matches the current Libra micro-age and overthrow and it is interesting that in both, we see the widening separation of Britain from continetal Europe.

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (August 1582 – August 1587 – July 1592)

Relatively quickly, this period commenced with the Anglo-Spanish War (1585–1604) which included the famous Spanish Armada (1588) with 130 ships and 30,000 men when Catholic Spain attempted to invade Protestant England and dispose Queen Elizabeth 1 but failed miserably at the hands of what constituted the British navy.  The English countered with two armadas against Spain which both failed, and Spain sent a second armada against England which also failed due to bad weather.  At this time Spain was the world’s superpower.  The victory was acclaimed by the English as their greatest since Agincourt.

The War of the Three Henrys (1587-89) was one of a series of French civil wars under the umbrella of the French Wars of Religion (1562 – 98). The war was instigated by Spain to keep France from interfering with the Spanish army in the Netherlands and the Spanish invasion of England – there were so many wars that they had wars within wars!  The Eighty Years’ War commencing in 1568 (before this Libra period) was basically a Protestant revolt of what are today the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg against the superpower of Catholic Spain, and by 1587 the newly formed Dutch Republic was successful in commencing the Dutch Golden Age lasting until 1672.[2]

In the Far East the first Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 was really the beginning of a proxy war between Japan and China with Korea the stepping stone from Japan to China. The conflict ended in 1598 after Japan’s second unsuccessful invasion followed by the withdrawal of the Japanese forces from the Korean Peninsula after a military stalemate (appropriate for Libra).  This war resulted in an imbalance of power within Japan with the Toyotomi clan’s power significantly weakened due to the exhaustion of its armed forces for the failed Korean conflict and the opposing Tokugawa clan, who had abstained from the war, and with their armed forces in tack, were able to eventually triumphed in this civil war (post this Libra period). The association of Scorpio with Japan activates the difficult 12th house when a Libra period appears and rarely does anything positive come from the 12th house.

Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)

The British Civil Wars (1639 – 1653) included rebellions, civil wars and invasions with the most important being the English Civil War which ended when the English parliamentarian army won followed by the execution of the king, the abolition of the monarchy, and the founding of the Commonwealth of England which lasted until 1660 only a few years past the end of this Libra period. [3] No English king had ever been previously executed.  The English Civil War was a major event in the history of the UK and is the second example of regime change in England under Libra.

Libra micro-age decan & overflow (Jan 1692 – Jan 1697 – Dec 1701)

The Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) had already commenced prior to this Libra period, but it was mostly within the Libra period that the fiercest fighting occurred in 1692-3.  It was a conflict between France and an opposing European coalition which included England, Spain and Portugal with theaters also in North America and India. Its importance in association with this Libra period is that this war is considered to be the first global war and while war has been endemic over the last many thousands of years, Libra seems to inspire war and conflict at the upper level. This global war is considered a precursor to the two world wars of the 20th century.

The Nine Years’ War encompassed Ireland and Jacobite risings in Scotland (with some later elements of the Jacobite risings partly portrayed in the TV series Outlander), and North America between French and English settlers and their respective Indigenous allies.  England was once again threatened by invasion, this time by the new European bully – France, but was thwarted by the destruction of the French navy in 1692.  The last year of this Libra period saw the beginning of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) due to unresolved issues of the Nine Years’ War with a focus on maintaining the (Libra) balance of power between different European countries.[4]

Libra micro-age decan & overflow (Sep 1746 – Sep 1751 – Aug 1756)

War also makes its mark with the beginning of the Seven Years’ War (1756 – 1763) commencing at the very end of this Libra period.  Such was the magnitude of the Seven Years’ War that some historians call it World War Zero as many considered it a world war[5] harking back to the Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) of the previous Libra period that was considered the first global war.  This strongly insinuates a diachronic relationship between major wars and these Libra periods.

The Seven Years’ War was the outcome of the Diplomatic Revolution of 1756 involving a major realignment of European alliances which shifted the European balance of power – always part of the Libra milieu. Austria shifted alliances away from Great Britain to France, while Prussia shifted to Great Britain.  The Seven Years’ War was between Great Britain and France with most European countries aligned one way or the other.  The result of the Seven Years’ War propelled Great Britain into its superpower status, and curtailed France and Spain.  The Seven Years’ War in the North American theater was called the French and Indian War (1754 – 1763).

Libra micro-age and overflow (June 1791 – April 1806 – March 1821)

This Libra period begins with the largest astrological transition following the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433.   1791 experienced a change in the quasi age-decan (Pisces to Libra), sub-age (Sagittarius to Scorpio) and sub-age decan (Sagittarius to Cancer).  It therefore appropriately commenced with the French Royal Family’s flight in disguise to Varennes where they were captured with the king and queen ultimately executed. The French Revolution was already underway before this Libra period but the frenzy of beheadings was delayed until after the arrival of the deadly Scorpio sub-age in 1791 with Scorpio’s focus on death and destruction.

The main war in this Libra period was the Napoleonic Wars (1805 – 1815) and included the minor War of 1812 between the UK and the USA which ended in a stalemate.  The wars had profound consequences on global history, including the spread of nationalism and liberalism, the rise of Britain as the world’s foremost naval and economic power for its almost a century and a half as the world’s superpower, the appearance of independence movements in Latin America and subsequent collapse of the Spanish Empire and Portuguese Empire, the fundamental reorganization of German and Italian territories into larger states, and the introduction of radically new methods of conducting warfare, as well as advances in civil law.

More French soldiers were casualties in the Napoleonic wars than in the First World War – it is estimated that five million people died due to the Napoleonic Wars.  The Napoleonic Wars transformed war into total war due to the massive escalation of the size and scope of the conflicts which is also an acknowledgment of the role played by the Sagittarius sub-age overflow (1791 – 1970) which has produced the ‘big’ modern world of mass production and mass consumption, including the mass production of military weapons and massive wars.  The Napoleonic Wars were another stepping stone from pre-industrial wars to the two world wars of the 20th century.

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (May 1856 – May 1861 – Apr 1866)

The main focus in this period is the American Civil War (1861 – 65) and again, Libra contributed towards this war, as it ultimately was based on giving justice to slaves.  The American Civil War occurred near the beginning of the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970), and it was this Pisces SAD&OF that ultimately raised the USA into the age-empire of our age.  Whereas Pisces is strongly located in the European astrological signature, it takes first place in the USA’s astrological signature – though to be technically correct, the USA is the empire of the Pisces-Aquarius age.  Similar to Pisces’ ability to split Europe due to the two fish swimming in opposite directions, Pisces can also split the USA, and because it did so early in the Pisces SAD&OF, the USA had plenty of time to capitalize upon the power Pisces has brought and rise to its role as the major superpower in the world.

The American Civil War was dwarfed by the Taiping rebellion (1850 – 1864) in China which was the bloodiest civil war in world history, with 30 to 50 million dead and mostly contained within this Libra period. This period closely matches the current Libra micro-age and overthrow and does not support a time of internal strength for either the USA or China.

Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920)

Of course, the major event in this period was the monumental man-made disaster of the First World War triggered when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated in 1914, with the USA entering in 1917 and concluding on 11 November 1918.  With around 22 million deaths, it was one of the largest wars and deadliest conflicts in history. It again confirms that each of these relatively small Libra periods, sitting within the Libra age decan (1433 – 2149), outstrips previous Libra periods in pushing the war envelope.

The Next Big Thing

Each and every Libra micro-age or micro-age decan since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius has a focus on upper-level major conflicts with ever-increasing violence and destruction, and if the current Libra MADOF (Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) follows form, a major conflict is on our doorstep. The most likely timeframe is from November 2024 onward for almost five years but it could commence any time between now and November 2024.  Who will be the combatants in this new conflict?  The most likely scenario is the USA, its NATO allies and other Anglo-Saxon nations against China and Russia as these two blocs represents the current strongest international balance of power, and though it is extremely unlikely that either side will destroy or annihilate the opposing bloc, some modification or new kind of international order is likely to evolve from this conflict if the past is any guide.

With the two main protagonists being the USA and China, a brief examination of both may provide relevant insights into its performance in such an international tussle.

China

Libra is a significant sign in China’s astrological signature as Libra is associated with the whole of the Far East.  In the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 1527 – Dec 1532 – Nov 1537) China was having difficulties, and in 1528 to 1530 in Henan province, an enormous drought coupled with a gigantic swarm of locusts deprived the region of harvests for the next two years, killing off half the people in some communities, due to starvation and cannibalism.  However, this could also be attributable to the overlapping Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow that was at its most potent in the second half of this period (i.e. December 1527 – December 1532) especially taking into account the disruptive ability of Aquarius.

The following Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Aug 1582 – Jul 1592)  saw the first Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 which was really the beginning of a proxy war between Japan and China with Korea the stepping stone from Japan to China. The conflict ended in 1598 after Japan’s second unsuccessful invasion followed by the withdrawal of the Japanese forces from the Korean Peninsula after a military stalemate.  This period closely matches the current Libra micro-age and overthrow.

China was also a major focus within the next Libra micro-age and overflow (Apr 1627 – May 1642 – Apr 1657). In 1627 the Manchus took advantage of Korea’s war-weakened state due to the unsuccessful Japanese invasion in the previous Libra period and invaded in 1627 and 1637, and this was even before the Manchus had taken over China.    In 1641 a massive epidemic struck in northern and central China with some local areas and towns having 90% of the local populace wiped out, which may have contributed to the fall of the Ming Dynasty just three years later. In 1644 the invading Qing army captured Beijing marking the beginning of Manchu rule over China proper.  The Ming dynasty had ruled over China from 1368 to 1644 while the Qing dynasty survived until 1912 (also in a Libra period).  This major and highly significant political development in China supports a close connection between Libra and China. Libra is associated with major events in China.

China’s affinity to Libra was again on display in the Libra micro-age and overflow (Jun 1791 – Apr 1806 – Mar 1821) when in 1793, the isolationist Chinese government rebuffed an attempt by the British to sell their manufactured goods to China and install a British ambassador in the Chinese court.  In 1796 the White Lotus Society, whose core belief is that a future Buddha will usher in an era of peace and plenty, commenced revolutionary activity against the oppressive Chinese government. The White Lotus Society also appropriately worshipped their Unborn Venerable Mother at the beginning of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910).  This same movement was behind the rise of the Ming dynasty liberating China from its Mongolian rulers in 1387.  Their first revolution in the 1330s was unsuccessful,[6] but this did occur before the arrival of the Age of Aquarius.  However, it did take place in a Libra micro-age and overflow (1314 – 1329 – 1344) within the Pisces sub-age (1254 – 1433) in its Cancer sub-age decan (1314 – 1373).  Their success in 1387 was in the Cancer sub-age overflow (1373 – 1433) which supports the notion that while Libra is associated with China, its Cancer connection is stronger.

Finally in the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920) commenced with the formation of the Republic of China in 1912 after a revolution that overthrew the Qing dynasty, ending 5,000 years of monarchy in China and 267 years of the Manchu dynasty.

Obviously Libra is a sign of ferment for China and suggests that major calamities are often on its doorstep and often indicate dynastic/regime change.  If Cancer is the primary sign for China, Libra activated the lowly 4th house and detracts from its 10th house of government and authority.  If the approaching conflict deeply involves China, it does not portend a favorable result for China, unless a possible regime change turns out to be favorable?

The current Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2059) is not favorable to China (especially in the second half) as Gemini sits at the 12th house position to China’s Cancer and more importantly in opposition to Sagittarius – a sign strongly associated with China.  However, within this Gemini age-decan is the Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2019) and we have seen China’s rise to the second strongest superpower in the world under this micro-age and overflow.  This rise is so potent, many pundits have claimed that China will become the number one superpower soon.  However, there are only a few more years of the Cancer micro-age overflow concluding in November 2029 with a waning influence over China for the following 10 years as it confronts the opposing Capricorn micro-age decan and overflow (Nov 2029 – Oct 2034 – Oct 2039).  This will not be a fortuitous period for many parts of the world, and specifically Cancer-orientated regions such as China, Russia, the Middle East and Islamic countries.

USA

What is the astrological environment for the USA in the approaching possible major conflict?  The American Civil War demonstrated that the USA was and remains like conjoined twins, who can never get away from each other and often detest each other.  This is again the reality in the USA when the rural voters throughout the USA voted for Trump, while urban areas voted Democrat.  The end of 2021 is equivalent to 1858 – only three years before the beginning of the American Civil War.  Does this mean that the USA is heading for another civil war?

Table 3

A very good argument can be made that the USA is heading towards a period of even greater internal conflict than has been experienced over the last five years, but the world is no longer in the Pisces sub-age decan (highlighted in yellow in Table 3) as was the case with the Civil War.  Pisces at strength is probably needed for the USA to tear itself apart – though the USA’s second sign on its totem pole, Aquarius, also has a love-hate relationship with the USA.  In place of Pisces, the world is currently under the influence of the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) but Gemini is not part of the astrological signature for the USA.  However, the American Civil War did occur in the Gemini micro-age, or to be technically exact, the Cancer-Gemini micro-age (1851 – 66), as it is also this decade.

The American Civil War occurred at the highpoint of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) and Cancer is opposite Capricorn, the third strongest sign in the USA’s astrological signature. When those settlers stepped ashore in Jamestown in 1607, they did so near the very end of the first sub-age in the Age of Aquarius – the Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612) and also within the last micro-age in the Capricorn sub-age, the Capricorn micro-age (1597 – 1612) so Capricorn became a key sign for the future USA. The current Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000 – 2014 – 2029) will also provoke tensions in the USA but compared to the 18th century, this Cancer influence is very mild compared to the 19th century.

With Pisces the strongest sign for the USA, and Cancer opposed to Capricorn, the third strongest sign in the astrological signature, the current Gemini SAD&OF is not of the same league.  However, Gemini is probably detrimental to the USA on the world stage, as Gemini sits at the lowly 4th house position to Pisces which detracts from its 10th house authority, and shifts the focus to domestic over international issues – which was played out by Trump through avoiding new foreign wars or conflicts, and extracting US troops from ongoing international conflicts whenever possible.  President Biden has continued this trend with the withdrawal of American military from Afghanistan in 2021.  The USA is most likely heading towards some form of isolationism for most of the rest of the 21st century due to the Gemini sub-age decan overflow (2029 – 2088) except where commercial interests are concerned.

Apart from Gemini and Cancer, the other common sign between the American Civil War and the current Libra MAD&OF is that they both occur within the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2149) and Scorpio indicates that the world currently does not exist in a time of stability, but a time of wrenching change, transformation and evolution.  Life is not meant to be stable and peaceful under Scorpio.  Scorpio is the sign of our times.

We can certainly expect a period of greater lack of social and political cohesion in the USA, especially in the Libra MAD&OF (Nov 24 – Nov 29) with the situation deteriorating beforehand, but it should be nowhere near the level of stress that existed in the buildup and execution of the American Civil War.  If the major problem the USA is faced with is not civil war or vigorous internal dissent, how will it handle a possible major external conflict?

It cannot be overstressed that the USA is the age-empire of our time, and once an age-empire gets established, they don’t like to be kicked around, and they tend to have longevity – at least for the first half of the age, which means the USA should retain its international position until at least the midway point of the Age of Aquarius around 2507 AD.  In contrast, China has a far more resilient history for cultural longevity, but not for its ruling dynasties or regime who come and go regularly (similar to the lunation cycle).  If China is the main protagonist in any approaching international military polarization, it will continue to exist afterward, but it may be politically restructured – as has been the case for the previous thousands of years.

The Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) does not suggest the eradication of opponents, as Libra is the sign of balance.  For most of the current millennia, a major polarization in the world is indicated, and this polarization will strengthen over the coming centuries.  This is in strong contrast to the last two ages at least.  This strongly suggests that China, for better or worse, will remain as the yin balance to American yang for most of this Millennium.  Therefore any approaching conflict may represent one of a number of international adjustments of this very long-term geopolitical situation?

Extent of the Conflict

Finally, what icould be the nature of the coming conflict? Each Libra period appears to outstrip the previous one in ferocity, and so if this is literally taken to be the case in the coming conflagration, the use of atomic weapons cannot be ignored as nations have historically used every means of weaponry available to defeat their enemies.  This is reinforced by the fact that the world remains in the most potent quarter (1970 – 2059) of the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2148).  The risk level for atomic weapons remains very high until 2059 at least.  Another viable possibility is that in place of open warfare, the world descends to all-out cyber warfare, as Scorpio is a key driver for the internet (along with Gemini).

If you examine Table 4, the strongest zodiacal signs are when the Overflow and Quasi periods are of the same sign.  This only applies to the sub-age and age and confirms the volatility of Scorpio and atomic weapons or cyberwar.  The Pisces age overflow and Pisces quasi-age provide the base environment for this situation and the major influence in the world until around 2507.  This therefore promotes the possible precipitation for conflict could be the South China Sea as the oceans and islands are ruled by Pisces.  It must be remembered that under the sign Aquarius, society and nations are more prone and likely to adopt extreme policies far outside the realm of normality – and this extremism leads to disruption as the first half of the 20th century so adequately demonstrated.

Table 4

For the rest of the world, a bunch of islands and reefs recently occupied and claimed by China in the South China Sea may seem a ridiculous precipitation for an international conflict but not according to Daniel Yergin, author of The New Map:

China’s efforts to assert sovereignty in the South China Sea is perhaps the most volatile foreign policy issue in the world today.  Through its waters pass $US3.5 trillion of world trade — two-thirds of China’s maritime trade, and over 40 percent of Japan’s and 30 percent of total world trade. Eighty percent of China’s oil imports pass through it. Its waters are crucial for food security. It provides much of the seafood consumed both in China, the world’s largest consumer of fish, and Southeast Asia.

Those waters are also fraught with risk. ‘A single irresponsible action or instigation of conflict,’ warned Vietnam’s prime minister, ‘could well lead to the interruption of these huge trade flows, with unforeseeable consequences not only to regional economies but also to the entire world.’

Even while writing this blog, the USA, UK and Australia announced in September 2021 a major new military project Aukus to build a number of nuclear submarines in Australia. This is obviously aimed at China due to the perceived recent strategic advancement of China in the Pacific and Indian oceans indicating that the heat is rising and the international balance of power is being stressed. China is also currently overflying its military aircraft into Taiwan’s air space which is a classic example of sabre-rattling.

China’s main sign is Cancer, the sign of perimeters and thus borders, and China does not have a history of military engagements with countries not on its borders – unlike the Europeans and their offspring’s who historically have marauded everywhere possible.  But the South China Sea is on China’s borders, as is Taiwan, Tibet, Korea, Nepal and India and a number of other countries.  Any coming conflict with China is bound to be on its ‘edges’.

Of course, there is no guarantee that any major conflict is identical to what I have indicated above.  This is where expertise in mundane astrology with the outer planetary cycles providing some fine-tuning would be a positive addition to my arsenal of techniques, but my 30 years and more of research into the astrological ages has prevented me from learning traditional mundane astrology to any proficiency.

Despite the unknowns of the precipitation and source of any new major conflict, the astrological reality of a major conflict is very strong, with finer details more speculative.  Will it be considered a Third World War?  Even in this worst-case scenario, it does not have the astrological background to compete with the two world wars of the 20th century.  The astrology of the first half of the 20th century was a cauldron of extremely potent astrological forces.  The key element was the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) with the most potent quarter 1910 – 1940 and this level of Pisces will not be experienced in the world for around another 25,000 years.  Secondly, the Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 1925 – 1940) was three times stronger and more powerful than our current ‘mini’ Aquarius micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2014 – Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which nevertheless was still capable of bringing the world to its symbolic knees with Coronavirus.  The world has got off relatively easily with COVID-19 as the previous and next Aquarius periods are far stronger in their disruption compared to the current one.

The next international turmoil that could rival the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) is the Aquarius sub-age decan and overflow (2029 – 2088 – 2149) especially in its third-quarter from 2088 to 2118 as this coming substantial Aquarius period resonates with the emergent Age of Aquarius.  The coming Aquarius period towards the end of this century is so potent that it is probable that the likes of Trump’s supporters that stormed the US Congress in early 2021 are likely to succeed and actually overthrow the government of the USA – perhaps only temporarily – perhaps charting a new autocratic direction for the USA?  Even age-empires quake at age-decan cusps.  In Ancient Egypt these age-decan cusps were basically aligned to the cusps of the Old, Middle and Late Kingdoms, and in Ancient Rome, the Roman Republic fell and was replaced by the Roman Empire ruled by dictatorial Caesars.  Age-decan cusps are strongly related to regime change. The world is not facing these types of scenarios in the coming decade but the end of this century is another story!

If the world avoids a major international conflict in the coming decade, I will personally be very pleased but we cannot expect that rationality will succeed over nationalism and patriotism which will probably remain the underlying political impetus in the world until at least the midpoint of the Age of Aquarius around 2503.  Until that time, the influence of Pisces remains stronger than Aquarius, even though the Age of Aquarius arrived in the 15th century.  Humans evolve very slowly, and from a grand narrative, we are still only stepping out of caves, but with atomic weapons instead of spears.  People a thousand years in the future will cringe at our backwardness – provided our backwardness does not wipe out humanity in the intervening period.  It is extremely unlikely we will have a world devoid of wars and violence without an effective international government – and even then, further international civil wars could still occur if science fiction movies have any credibility?

The astrology indicates that the next big thing should be war or some alternative style of major conflict – above and beyond what the world has experienced since the end of the Second World War, and I have provided some speculative scenarios of the combatants and details which may or may not be correct.  We cannot expect astrology to provide a high-definition video with stereoscopic audio of the future as its track record does not support this.  Much fanfare was made of the predictions of the COVID-19 pandemic by the French astrologer, the late Andre Barbault, but even in his predictions, he could not be definitive and he certainly did not get the finer details correct. However, merely defining the outline of the next big thing is an achievement in itself if it comes to pass!

However, there is another possibility that could occur in place of a major war – or in addition to a major war. The necessary international alliance required to tackle Climate Change is also more likely to take shape under the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) with the second half (Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) the more likely timeframe. This may deteriorate into a bipolar approach to Climate Change with two intractable opposing sides, or it could be a success as Libra can bring peace or accord in a time of disagreement. A major conflict in parallel to a Climate Change accord is also a possibility.

There is one more hurdle between the world in 2021 and the approaching Libra highpoint around November 2024 and that is the replacement of the Cancer quasi micro-age (Jul 2007 – Jun 2022) with the Gemini quasi micro-age (Jun 2022 – Jan 2037) in June 2022. It must be remembered that the sub-prime mortgage crisis struck after the arrival of the Cancer quasi micro-age in July 2007. In another examples, the Soviet Union collapsed at the beginning of the Leo quasi micro-age (June 1991 – Jul 2007) under the influence of the Aquarius nano-age and overflow (Jun 1991 – Sep 1992 – Dec 1993). Apartheid in South Africa also collasped indicating the relevance of these quasi periods.

A quasi micro-age cusp is really a gear change, and the approaching cusp in June 2022 indicates a change down in gear for Cancer and a rise in gear for Gemini making their respective influences about equal. Furthermore, the first nano-age overflow in the approaching Gemini quasi micro-age is the Sagittarius nano-age overflow (Jun 2022 – Aug 2023) and it is always the case that each quasi period commences with a sub-period of the opposite sign introducing greater tension than normal. The Sagittarius nano-age and overflow (Mar 2021 – Jun 2022 – Aug 2028) will be a time of high stress for Gemini and could highlight issues associated with the internet, cities, commuter transportation, students and fragmentation.

Perhaps Greta Thunberg significantly increases her influence amongst students? Maybe the European Union struggles to retain all of its existing members? Does an internet crash or incident become a major liability in some way? Cities may start to flex their influence at Climate Change talks? Or the extraction of vehicles from fossil fuels accelerate? China comes off the boil and starts showing early signs of political fracture? My first choice is the internet. Unfortunately the track record of the human race is that governments will use any newly developed or created technology for war – and so we may expereince some kind of militarization of the internet.

Despite a war or major conflict prediction, Libra is not focused solely on conflict.  There is always a focus upon females, both positive and negative, and we have already seen this with the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan severely curtailing the freedom of women and Texas’ almost suppression of abortion.  Despite these dark forces that remain so prevalent in the world, previous Libra periods strongly suggest that it is still a forward march for female rights – especially under Libra sitting so strongly in the Age of Aquarius for almost the next thousand years.  Another major area is art and artists – and we should see a focus and movement in that field as well.  Art auction prices have recently increased.  These and other areas such as justice associated with Libra such as Black Lives Matter will be explored in later posts.  It’s early days yet for Libra!

Interesting facts

9/11 in 2001 occurred in the Leo micro-age decan overflow (Feb 2000 – Jan 2005) including the invasion of Afghanistan in retaliation.  The withdrawal of US and allied troops in 2021 followed by the Taliban takeover occurred in the Aquarius micro-age decan overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) with Leo and Aquarius opposite signs in the zodiac.  Aquarius will undermine Leo.

9/11 took place around 19 months inside of the Gemini quasi sub-age decan (Feb 2000 – 2059) and this Gemini quasi sub-age decan is constructed from the Gemini sub-age and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) with the quasi sub-age representing the more potent middle half of the sub-age and overflow.  The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 occurred four months inside the Scorpio quasi sub-age decan (Aug 1940 – Feb 2000).  In both cases, the USA was caught with its pants down as subsequent inquiries discovered they had enough intelligence to know what was coming, but failed to have the clarity to act upon the evidence. A Pisces age empire such as the USA will often lack (Virgo) qualities such as clarity.

The Pearl Harbor attack also occurred in the Scorpio nano-age (Aug 1940 – Nov 1941) while 9/11 occurred in a Gemini nano-age overflow (May 2001 – Aug 2002).  In both attacks, not only were they near the very beginning of a quasi sub-age, but the nano-age in effect was of the exact same sign as the quasi sub-ages.  The Scorpio nano-age at the beginning of the Scorpio quasi sub-age decan relates to Japan as Japan’s main sign is Scorpio, and Scorpio also rules surprise attacks.  A similar Gemini connection to 9/11 has Gemini, the sign of the twins which involved the Twin Towers, and Gemini is traditionally the sign for Iraq and adjoining countries, as Iraq’s antecedents go back to Mesopotamia, the Gemini age empire – the very first age-empire tin the world.

Will the USA suffer a similar fate near the beginning of the next quasi sub-age – specifically the Aquarius quasi sub-age decan commencing 2059?  With the USA’s primary sign Pisces, it cannot be expected to get the (Virgo) details correct.  The first nano-age in the Aquarius quasi sub-age decan is an Aquarius nano-age and overflow, and if it follows form, there should be a strong Aquarian element in any future attack.  It could also be an internal attack by extremists.

Total War & the Libra micro-age & overflow (1910 – 1915 –1920)

The Libra micro-age and overflow (Dec 1910 – Nov 1915 – Oct 1920)  was the last Libra period before our current one (the Libra micro-age decan and overflow Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029), and was a highly significant period where major inroads were made by females, war again broke new ground in ferocity and mindlessness and China broke free of its heredity monarchy.   The focus towards female enfranchisement was mainly focused upon western nations – as has been the case since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century when Europeans commenced their maritime discoveries followed by their ruthless conquest of the world.

Very quickly in 1911, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time across Europe.  Even the theft of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa from the Louvre museum in Paris in the same year can be linked back to the speculation that the painting is the very first painting of the modern woman near the beginning of both the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan.  Women went on trailblazing and in 1912 Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly across the English Channel and the Woman Suffrage Procession took place in Washington DC led by Inez Milholland on horseback.  The following year, Emily Davison, a British suffragette, ran out in front of the King’s horse, at The Derby and was critically trampled and died four days later in hospital.  It was also noted in Great Britain that, in the absence of men due to the First World War, not only did women replace men in the munitions factory, they were twice as efficient compared to when they were staffed exclusively by men.[1]

The world did not wait for this Libra MAD to grant women the vote, but only very few countries or states did so before this period.  An early country in this period was Norway when women got the vote in 1913.  In contrast, in 1915, the US House of Representatives rejected a proposal to give women the right to vote but ferment was in the air, and Denmark gave women the vote and Iceland followed (allowing women over 40 voting rights). In 1916 Margaret Sanger opened the first US birth control clinic, a forerunner of Planned Parenthood and Republican Jeannette Rankin of Montana became the first woman elected to the US House of Representatives. In 1917, women won the right to vote in New York State notwithstanding the “Night of Terror” when influential suffragettes from the Silent Sentinels were deliberately subjected to physical assaults by guards while imprisoned – the Nazi’s did not invent fascism.  The Russian Provisional Government enacted women’s suffrage and women were permitted to stand in national elections in the Netherlands.

As this Libra period came to a close, in 1918, most women in the UK over 30 were given the vote and Canadian women (excluding Quebec) were granted the right to vote in federal elections. Countess Constance Markievicz, while detained in Holloway Prison (London), became the first woman elected to the British House of Commons but did not take her seat.  1919 saw full women’s suffrage in the Netherland and finally at the 11th hour the United States Congress approved the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which guaranteed suffrage to women and was ratified the following year.

Some famous women also became notable during this time.  Mata Hari was arrested in Paris for spying in 1918 and Dr. Marie Stopes published her influential book Married Love in the U.K. In 1920, the Australian soprano Nellie Melba became history’s first well-known performer to make a radio broadcast when she sang two arias as part of an experimental series of broadcasts from a studio at the Marconi Company’s factory at Chelmsford in England.  The Canadian-American actress, Mary Pickford (1892 – 1979), “the World’s Sweetheart” along with Charlie Chaplin and others founded United Artists in 1919 and was one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (created well after this Libra period).  Pickford was one of the most popular actresses of the 1910s and 1920s, earning the nickname “Queen of the Movies”[2] and obviously filling in for the goddess Venus.

There are some other developments that are worth noting, commencing with the formation of the  Republic of China in 1912 after a revolution which overthrew the Qing dynasty, ending 5,000 years of monarchy in China and 267 years of the Manchu dynasty.  Libra has traditionally been associated with the Far East, and Libra seems to have a strong role in China’s astrological signature as opposed to Aries – common amongst all western nations. Also in 1912 the National Park Service was created in the USA, with parks and gardens also traditionally associated with Libra. In 1919 the Grand Canyon was made a National Park.  This connection to parks is noteworthy for the developing connection between Libra and the environmental movement.

Also in 1919, the League of Nations was founded whose principal mission was to maintain world peace and thus providing a strong link to Libra.  The USA’s innate Pisces’ nature saw it quickly retreat from international involvement and the US Senate spurned its membership of the League of Nations.  While this league was an abject failure, the astrology suggests that this is a seed for greater things to come – the world government greatly feared by many conservatives everywhere but without such an entity, a world devoid of major conflict or war is extremely unlikely. In 1920, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was founded and is linked to Libra’s preference for justice such as the Black Lives Matter movement.  1920 also witnessed the launching of Mahatma Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement in India, with the goal of obtaining independence from onerous British rule.  Earlier in this Libra period, Gandhi was leading the passive resistance against racial inequality in South Africa. Non-violent revolution is another hallmark of Libra.

1920 also saw the world’s first peaceful establishment of a social democratic government in Sweden. Social democracy theoretically promotes social justice within the framework of a liberal-democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented mixed economy, but wherever justice exists, so does Libra! Also in 1920, insulin was first isolated for the treatment of diabetes – the Libra disease due to Libra’s rulership of sugar and the current worldwide growing addiction to obesity as the new norm.

Libra has strong affinity to music, and so it is appropriate that jazz came of age under this Libra period.  The Original Dixieland Jass Band made the genre’s first recordings early in 1917, and their Livery Stable Blues became the earliest released jazz record. In 1919, Kid Ory’s Original Creole Jazz Band of musicians from New Orleans began playing in San Francisco and Los Angeles.[3]  This Libra period saw the birth of jazz as a major musical genre that displays no sign of abating its influence in the land of music.

It also made history by being the ‘first total war’ and again confirms that each of these relatively small Libra periods, sitting within the Libra age decan (1433 – 2149), outstrips previous Libra periods in pushing the war envelope.  Unfortunately, this is an unsettling observation taking into account the current Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 2019 – November 2024 – November 2029) – especially its second half (November 2024 – November 2029).

No one zodiacal sign is going to create conflict – most events are associated with an astrological signature composed of a number of distinct components.  This Libra MAD&OF sits within the larger and more powerful Aquarius micro-age and overflow (1910 – 25 – 40).  Aquarius was the key sign associated with the rise of the extreme politics of communism and fascism that dictated events in this 30 year period.  Aquarius is the sign of disruption (not rainbows in the sky). The coup-de-gras however is the last of the three strongest manifestations of Pisces in the world which will not be experienced at such potency for around another 25,000 years.  1910 marked the highpoint of the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970) resonating with the massive Pisces age overflow (1433 – 3581).  This was the main game in town for the first half of the 20th century.

Pisces is also a key sign in Europe’s astrological signature, and the two world wars certainly saw Europe tear itself apart, something that is common in Europe whenever Pisces is strong.  The previous major Pisces rift was the Protestant Reformation that split European Christians into two and resulted in numerous military conflicts including the attempted invasion of Great Britain by the Spanish Armada. Only some of the world events in the period 1910 to 1920 can be associated with Libra, and in macro-astrology it is necessary to cherry-pick historical events from the cauldron of all events.

There is no doubt that despite the First World War women were on the move in this Libra period, and many first world nations commenced the path of voting rights for women.  Women also broke new ground in their public achievements and notability – even notoriety.  China’s affinity to Libra was again witnessed with the final overthrow of monarchial government after 5,000 years.  The forerunner of the United Nations, the League of Nations, appeared as a well-meaning project that failed but is a sign of things to come over the coming centuries.  The non-violent approach to politics was appropriately instigated by Gandhi – first in his homeland of South Africa, then India – much to the consternation of the arrogant British authorities.  The maturation of jazz in this period is another acknowledgment of Libra and the coming of age of the USA – the age-empire of our times.

The First World War again demonstrates the link between major conflict and Libra not to mention that the momentum of violence unleashed upon the world by the Aries age and overflow ( 2862BC – 715 BC – 1433 AD) remains a potent negative force to be dealt with, and will probably be the main international focus in the second half of the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) most likely due to an effective international body resembling a world government of some degree or other.

Civil Wars & More in the Libra micro-age decan & overflow (1856 – 1861 – 1866)

The main military focus in this period is the American Civil War (1861 – 65) and again, Libra contributed towards this war, as it ultimately was based on giving justice to slaves. The American Civil War was among the earliest industrial wars in the world and many considered it the first major industrial war and thus again we see in a small Libra period the leap to a greater experience of war compared to any earlier war.  According to various estimates, it is believed that between five hundred and one thousand women enlisted as soldiers on both sides of the war, disguised as men. [1]

The American Civil War occurred near the beginning of the Pisces sub-age decan and overflow (1851 – 1910 – 1970), and before the end of this Pisces SAD&OF, the USA became the age-empire of our age – or at least the greatest superpower in the world.  Whereas Pisces is strongly located in the European astrological signature (probably in second place to Aries), it takes first place in the USA’s astrological signature – though to be technically correct, the USA is the empire of the Pisces-Aquarius age. Astrologically, the USA is the New Rome (though Constantinople also claimed that title).

Rome’s baptism occurred under the first Aries sub-age decan and overflow (297 BC – 237 BC – 177BC) of the Aries age overflow (715 BC – 1433 AD) associated to the Punic Wars with Carthage (264 BC – 146 BC) including Hannibal’s crossing of the Alps with his elephants.  Rome’s final success in the Punic Wars, which eradicated its main rival, allowed Rome to go on and become one of the greatest ancient empires in the world.  The USA came of age in the same astrological circumstances as Ancient Rome but invoking Pisces rather than Aries.

The American Civil War had implications beyond its borders.  The line between the northern non-slave states and southern slave states actually marked the border between two very different styles of civilization that the European colonialists had imposed upon the whole of the Americas.  North of the Mason-Dixon Line, the non-slave states of the USA plus Canada were mercantile oriented.  Below the Mason-Dixon Line the Americas were a rural based economy, and resembled what the Spanish and Portuguese had implemented in Latin America.  The southern plantation owners mimicked the Spanish ‘hacenderos’ modelled after the Ancient Roman ‘latifundia’ that were typically very large estates (almost fiefdoms) employing slave labor.  Therefore the American Civil War attempted to push the borders of this clash of civilizations in the whole of the Americas southward to the Mexican border.[2]

The American Civil War demonstrated that internally, the USA was and remains like conjoined twins, who can never get away from each other, and often detest each other so deeply, they will go to war against each other.  This is again the reality in the USA when the rural voters throughout the USA, especially the old southern states,  voted for Trump, while urban areas voted Democrat.  2020 is equivalent to 1858 – only three years before the beginning of the American Civil War.  Does this mean that the USA is heading for another civil war?

Table 1 – 2024 to29 is the first astrological anniversary of the American Civil War

A very good argument can be made that the USA is heading towards a period of even greater conflict than has been experienced over the last five years, but the world is no longer in the Pisces sub-age decan (highlighted in yellow in table 1) as was the case with the Civil War.  In the absence of Pisces, there is no other support at present for the USA to tear itself apart until towards the end of this century at the earliest.  In place of Pisces, the world is currently under the influence of the Gemini sub-age decan and overflow (1970 – 2029 – 2088) but Gemini is not believed to be part of the astrological signature for the USA.  However, the American Civil War did occur in the Gemini micro-age, or to be technically exact, the Cancer-Gemini micro-age (1851 – 66), as it is this decade.

Furthermore, the American Civil War occurred at the highpoint of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) and Cancer is opposite Capricorn, the third strongest sign in the USA’s astrological signature. The last micro-age is also the Aquarius-Capricorn micro-age as the previous Aquarius micro-age overflowed onto the Capricorn micro-age.  This signature was replicated in 1776 which also occurred in the following Aquarius-Capricorn micro-age (1761 – 76) representing the Capricorn sting-in-the-tail of the Capricorn sub-age and overflow (1433 – 1612 – 1791).  Capricorn indeed is a key sign in the astrological signature of the USA.  Even its final rise to the contemporary world superpower occurred in the Aquarius-Capricorn micro-age (1940 – 1955).

The influence of the current Cancer micro-age and overflow (2000-2014-2029) is detrimental to Capricorn associated USA as was the case in the Civil War.  The overlapping Gemini micro-age and overflow (2014 – 2029 – 2044) is also probably detrimental to the USA, as Gemini sits at the lowly 4th house position to Pisces which detracts from its 10th house authority, and shifts the focus to domestic over international issues – which was played out by Trump through avoiding new foreign wars or conflicts, and extracting US troops from ongoing international conflicts whenever possible.  Biden is showing signs of continuing this trend with the hasty withdrawal from Afganistan in 2021. The USA is most likely heading towards some form of isolationism or domestic focus for most of the rest of the 21st century due to the Gemini sub-age decan overflow (2029 – 2088).

Apart from Gemini and Cancer, the other common sign between the American Civil War and the current Libra MAD&OF is that they both occur within the Scorpio sub-age and overflow (1791 – 1970 – 2149) and Scorpio indicates that the world currently does not exist in a time of (Taurus) stability, but a time of wrenching change, transformation, revolution and evolution.  Life is not meant to be stable and peaceful under Scorpio.  Scorpio is the sign of our times.

We can certainly expect a period of greater lack of social and political cohesion in the USA, especially in the Libra MADOF (Nov 24 – Nov 29) with the situation deteriorating beforehand, but it should be nowhere near the level of stress that existed in the buildup and execution of the American Civil War.

The tension was in the air very early in the 19th century Libra MAD&OF (May 1856 – May 1861 – Apr 1866). In the very first month, Lawrence, Kansas was captured and burned by pro-slavery forces and Congressman Preston Brooks of South Carolina beat Senator Charles Sumner with a cane in the hall of the United States Senate, for a speech Sumner had made attacking Southerners who sympathized with the pro-slavery violence in Kansas (“Bleeding Kansas”). Sumner was unable to return to duty for three years while he recovered and Brooks became a hero across the South. Also in this action-filled month, a group of followers of radical abolitionist John Brown killed five homesteaders in Franklin County, Kansas – known as the Pottawatomie massacre.

In 1857 the Supreme Court of the USA ruled that Blacks were not citizens and slaves could not sue for freedom.  In the following year Abraham Lincoln accepted the Republican Party nomination for a seat in the US Senate, and delivered his House Divided speech in Springfield, Illinois.  In 1859, John Brown raided the Harpers Ferry Armory in Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, in an unsuccessful bid to spark a general slave rebellion.  Troops under Colonel Robert E. Lee overpowered John Brown, and he was hung for his efforts. The American Civil War was precipitated in 1860 when South Carolina became the first state to secede from the USA. In 1861, the Confederate States of America was formed, comprising the first seven break-away States.

By the end of 1865, the Thirteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified by three-quarters of the states (including those states in secession) with slavery also legally outlawed in the last two slave states of Kentucky and Delaware. In the following year, the US Congress overwhelmingly passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first federal legislation to protect the rights of African-Americans whereupon President Andrew Johnson vetoed the bill, only to have Congress override the veto.

Females

While the vision of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes in 1858 cannot solely be assigned to Libra, the promotion of a leading semi-mythical female figure of western culture can certainly be assigned to Libra.[3]  The association with the Cancer-Pisces sub-age decan (1851 – 1910) provided further female promotion from Cancer with Pisces supplying the visionary element.  The 1856 publication of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin activated many American women in their denunciation of slavery.[4]  Florence Nightingale became a national heroine by 1860 due to her overseeing the nursing of injured soldiers in the Crimean War.[5]

According to legend, when Lincoln was introduced to her at the White House, his first words were, “So this is the little lady who started this Great War.”

Women already had suffrage on Pitcairn Island, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and in 1856, this was extended to Norfolk Island.  Also, the first known female private detective began work for the Pinkerton Detective Agency.  In 1857 divorce became possible in the UK without requiring onerous parliamentary approval. Keeping to Libra’s matrimonial rulership, in 1858, The Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn became a popular wedding recessional, after it was played at the marriage of Queen Victoria’s daughter Victoria, Princess Royal, to Prince Friedrich of Prussia.

1859 saw the founding of The Society for Promoting the Employment of Women at a time when there were few acceptable occupations for middle class women other than a governess or a lady’s companion – and thus society made it acceptable for women to be typists, hairdressers, printers, and bookkeepers.  The Mary Institute was founded in Missouri and Tidskrift för hemmet, the first women’s magazine in the Nordic countries, began publication in Sweden. In 1860, the Nightingale Training School and Home for Nurses was opened in London becoming the first nursing school based on the ideas of Florence Nightingale.

Alice in Wonderland was introduced to the world by Lewis Carroll in 1865 and is considered one of the best-known and most popular works of English-language fiction.  Among its first avid readers were Queen Victoria and the young Oscar Wilde.[6]

The Arts

Artistic developments are also in focus under Libra, and The Art Treasures of Great Britain in 1857 was an exhibition of fine art held in Manchester, England. It remains the largest art exhibition to be held in the UK, and even possibly in the world, with over 16,000 works and it attracted over 1.3 million visitors. Its selection and display of artworks had a formative influence on the public art collections that were then being established in the UK, such as the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The 1863 opening of Salon des Refusés (French for “exhibition of rejects”) in Paris had critics and the public ridicule the ‘refuses’ which had been rejected by the ‘official’ outlets supported by the French government.  The rejected paintings included such now-famous paintings as Édouard Manet’s Déjeuner sur l’herbe (see below) and James McNeill Whistler’s Symphony in White, No. 1: The White Girl. But the critical attention also ended up legitimizing the emerging avant-garde painters.  Manet’s early masterworks, The Luncheon on the Grass and Olympia, both painted in 1863, caused great controversy and served as rallying points for the young painters who would create Impressionism. Today, these are considered watershed paintings that mark the start of modern art[7] – appropriately commenced in this Libra period.

The Luncheon on the Grass (Le déjeuner sur l’herbe), 1863 by Édouard Manet

Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde is one of many versions of a chivalric romance dated to the 12th century. The story is a tragedy about the adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Isolde while the details differ from one author to another, the overall plot structure remains much the same. The narrative predates and most likely influenced the Arthurian romance of Lancelot and Guinevere, and has had a substantial impact on Western art and literature.  Richard Wagner produced his version in 1865 to great success.  It had a painful birth as its chromatic harmonies were likened to “a perfume fog shot through with lightening”.  Wagner depicted Tristan as a doomed romantic figure, while Isolde fulfils Wagner’s quintessential feminine role as the redeeming woman.  His Tristan und Isolde is sometimes described as marking the start of modern music[8] [9] and was highly influential upon the direction of classical music in the 20th century.

Justice

Libra’s quest for justice was also displayed in this period by John Stuart Mill when he published On Liberty in 1857. One quote from this work is:

“That the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not a sufficient warrant … Over himself, over his body and mind, the individual is sovereign”

With the above quote, even over 150 years later, most western nations remain retarded as explained by John Mills:

“… there is a risk of a “tyranny of the majority” in which the many oppress the few who, according to democratic ideals, have just as much a right to pursue their legitimate ends”[10]

If Aries is the sign of war, something in Libra opposes this, and this may explain why in this Libra period in 1864 the predecessor of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was created by the First Geneva Convention, which is focused upon (Libra) justice.  Specifically it defines “the basis on which rest the rules of international law for the protection of the victims of armed conflicts.”[11] Similarly, The forces of progress under Libra manifested in a famous bare-fist fight in England in 1860 that marked the end of this popular spectator sport.[13]

China

This Libra period was part of an extremely tempestuous century for China, probably due to the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) and so this Libra period was part of the Taiping Rebellion which was a massive civil war that was waged from 1850 to 1864 between the established Qing dynasty and the theocratic Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and became the bloodiest civil war in world history.[12] This cannot be directly attributed to Libra, but the Second Opium War (1856 to 1860) is a prime candidate. This war continued Great Britain’s and Europe’s tyrannical policy of forcing opium upon the Chinese population resulting in another loss for China, and Great Britain benefited by gaining Hong Kong as a British colony.  This means that since December 2019, Hong Kong is experiencing an astrological anniversary as again the micro-ages and all smaller sub-periods are the same.  This suggests that the contemporary Hong Kong situation has more to play out!   The fall of Beijing to the Franco-British forces in 1860 involving the looting of the Chinese Emperors Summer Palace is also worth noting.

Conclusion

The American Civil War broke new ground in warfare, and probably introduced the first industrial war to the world.  It seems that each new Libra micro-age or micro-age overflow makes a new breakthrough in the extent that war can be waged.  The bloodiest civil war in world history with the Taiping Rebellion in China again promotes China’s Cancer-Libra credentials. Females were also breaking new ground with the vision of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, and Florence Nightingale.  Early examples of female suffrage occurred on Pitcairn and Norfolk Island.  An early liberalization of divorce anand expansion of female employment appeared in the UK.  Though fantasy, Alice in Wonderland was introduced to the world.

Possibly the largest artistic exhibition the world has seen with The Art Treasures of Great Britain and the public appearance of what would turn out to be Impressionist painters suggest that modern art commenced in this Libra period. Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde appear to mark the beginning of modern music.  John Stuart Mill’s publication On Liberty was another thrust towards justice that remains unrealized in today’s world, including the average First World country, and the appearance of the predecessor of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Libra micro-age and overflow (June 1791 – April 1806 – March 1821)

This Libra period begins with the largest astrological transition following the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in 1433.   1791 experienced a change in the quasi age-decan, sub-age, sub-age decan and finally this relatively small Libra period. It therefore appropriately commenced with the French Royal Family’s flight in disguise to Varennes where they were captured with the king and queen ultimately executed. The French Revolution was already underway before this Libra period but the frenzy of beheadings was delayed until after the arrival of the deadly Scorpio sub-age in 1791 with Scorpio’s focus on death and destruction (and rebirth).  The French revolutionaries in 1792 turned to the guillotine and Reign of Terror in response to the new Scorpio influence.  The same year saw the establishment of the French First Republic – and this does suggest that Scorpio is an element in the French astrological signature.

The arrival of the Scorpio sub-age (1791 – 1970) supported revolutionary zeal around the world, so much so, that by the end of the Scorpio sub-age in 1970, most of the monarchical governments around the world had been overthrown or stripped of most of their former regal powers – a massive and unprecedented worldwide revolution in its own right (but not taught in school history).  The French royal family merely commenced the charge to almost monarchial oblivion for Europe under Scorpio.

Another significant influencer of this Libra period was the Sagittarius sub-age overflow (1791 – 1970) which made everything bigger – including the influence of these small Libra periods. However, the most significant development associated with this Libra period is that it instigated the arrival of the seven century long Libra quasi age-decan (1791 – 2507), which, when superimposed upon the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) provides a four stage structure similar to the four phases of the monthly lunar cycle.

The four stages of the Libra age-decan and overflow are:

  1. 1433 – 1791 (weakest)
  2. 1791 – 2149 (mid strength)
  3. 2149 -2507 (strongest)
  4. 2507 – 2865 (mid strength with a sting/punch at the end)

One of the unique quirks of ages is that each astrological age commences with a sub-age of the following age.  The Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3581) commenced with the Capricorn sub-age (1433 – 1612) as a preview to the Capricorn age (3581 – 5728).  Another unique circumstance applies to quasi age-decans.  Each age-decan has a quasi-age decan – for example, the Libra age-decan and overflow (1433 – 2149 – 2865) has as its Libra quasi age-decan (1791 – 2507).  Every quasi age-decan commences with a micro-age of the same sign.  Therefore 1791 was the beginning of both the Libra micro-age (1791 – 1806) and Libra quasi age-decan (1791 – 2507).

The same arrangement applies to quasi sub-age decans and all smaller periods associated with quasi decans be they age-decans, sub-age decans, micro-age decans or nano-age decans.  This quirk in macro-astrology fortifies the role of quasi periods meaning that each quasi period arrives with extra zeal.

Females

The revolutionary zeal of the French Revolution did not seem to extend to French women! The Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen in September 1791 by French activist, feminist, and playwright Olympe de Gouges (1748 – 1793) was written in response to the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.  Olympe de Gouges hoped to expose the failures of the French Revolution in the recognition of gender equality, but failed as she was accused, tried and convicted of treason, resulting in her execution in the Reign of Terror (and the only woman beheaded for her political writings). [1]  The French Revolution did initially raise the status of women, but only temporarily, and women were soon shunted back to their ‘secondary’ place in society.  With Leo strong in the French astrological signature – this was probably inevitable.

Despite France’s aversion to female equality during the Revolution, in 1793 the dechristianization of France reached a climax with the celebration of the Goddess of Reason in the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris, and like the Statute of Liberty, representations of females are often associated with justice and freedom.  The famous painting Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix is commonly associated with the French Revolution, though in reality it was painted for the following July 1830 Revolution in France.

Liberty Leading the People is a painting by Eugène Delacroix commemorating the July Revolution of 1830. The figure of Liberty is also viewed as a symbol of France and the French Republic known as Marianne. The painting is often confused for depicting the French Revolution.

There was a different story in England with the publication in 1792 of Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, one of the earliest works of feminist literature.  Wollstonecraft maintained that women are human beings deserving of the same fundamental rights as men, and that treating them otherwise undermines the moral foundation of society. Wollstonecraft was prompted to write the Rights of Woman after reading a demeaning report to the French National Assembly in 1791, which stated that women should only receive a domestic education.  Her ambiguous statements regarding the equality of the sexes have made it difficult to classify Wollstonecraft as a modern feminist – the word ‘feminist’ did not even emerge until decades after her death.  The Rights of Woman was generally well received when it was first published in 1792 and her biographer called it “perhaps the most original book of [Wollstonecraft’s] century”. Wollstonecraft’s work had significant impact on advocates for women’s rights in the 19th century, particularly the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention which produced the Declaration of Sentiments laying out the aims of the suffragette movement in the United States.[2]

Another woman who made a name for herself in this Libra period was Mary Robinson (1757 – 1800) who was an English actress, poet, dramatist, novelist and celebrity figure. She enjoyed poetry from the age of seven and wrote many plays, poems and novels. She was a celebrity, and gossiped about in newspapers due to her fame as an actress and writer. She was the first public mistress of King George IV while he was still Prince of Wales.  Like her contemporary Mary Wollstonecraft, she championed the rights of women and was an ardent supporter of the French Revolution.[3]

Of course, no mention of this period would be complete without noting the most famous female novelist of all times – Jane Austen.  Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) began writing her first draft of Pride and Prejudice in 1796 under the title First Impressions and published Sense and Sensibility (1811) followed by Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). Northanger Abbey and Persuasion were both published posthumously in 1818. Later in the 19th century, novelist Henry James referred on one occasion to Austen and ranked her with Shakespeare, Cervantes, and Henry Fielding as among “the fine painters of life”.[4] Her novels conform to Libra plots involving matrimony in the upper classes.  Jane Austen also takes pride of place at the beginning of the Libra quasi-age decan (1791 – 2507), which strongly suggest that she wrote at the very beginning of seven centuries dedicated to women and Libra archetypes such as justice, artistic accomplishments but also major conflict.[5]

Another famous woman from this period is Zheng the “dragon lady” of the South China Sea and though she surrendered her 1,800 junks and 70,000 men to the Chinese government in 1810, all of her pirates were pardoned and many assimilated into the Chinese military. Zheng took command as pirate supremo on the death of her husband in 1807 and successfully negotiated their surrender.[6]

The United States Bill of Rights were created in 1791 providing specific guarantees of personal freedoms and rights, clear limitations on the government’s power in judicial and other proceedings, and explicit declarations that all powers not specifically granted to the U.S. Congress by the Constitution are reserved for the states or the people. The concepts codified in the Bill of Rights drew inspiration from the English Bill of Rights (1689) and the Magna Carta (1215).  The Magna Carta was executed under a much earlier Libra micro-age decan (1214-19).

Libra’s judicial connection was again on display in 1802 when the US Supreme Court established the principle of judicial review primarily related to the constitutionality of laws, especially by the Supreme Court of the United States. This is commonly held to have been established in the case of Marbury versus Madison, which was argued before the Supreme Court in 1803[7] and remains the single most important decision in American constitutional law. The Court’s landmark decision established that the U.S. Constitution is actual law, not just a statement of political principles and ideals, and helped define the boundary between the constitutionally separate executive and judicial branches of the federal government.  The actual case was due to conflict between the outgoing president, John Adams and the incoming president Thomas Jefferson when Adams, just days before his departure, appointed several dozen supporters to new circuit judge and justice of the peace positions in an attempt to frustrate Jefferson and his supporters.[8]

Another key legal development was the Napoleonic Code which was adopted as French civil law in 1804.  The Code was a major step in replacing the previous patchwork of feudal laws and is considered as one of the few documents that have influenced the whole world! It was the first modern legal code to be adopted with a pan-European scope, and it strongly influenced the law of many of the countries formed during and after the Napoleonic Wars and influenced developing countries outside Europe, especially in Latin America and the Middle East, as part of the process to modernize and defeudalize their countries through legal reforms.[9]

English-born Thomas Paine (1737 – 1809), after significantly contributing towards the American Revolution, published The Rights of Man which tore apart monarchies and traditional social institutions in defense of the French Revolution but he was ostracized by the British government and Christians.  In The Age of Reason he advocated deism, promoted reason and free thought, and argued against institutionalized religion in general and Christian doctrine in particular.  In a later publication, he advocated for a guaranteed minimum income. Paine was influential upon Mary Wollstonecraft, Abraham Lincoln, Bertrand Russell and Thomas Edison.[10]  One historian stated:

“In a fundamental sense, we are today all Paine’s children. It was not the British defeat at Yorktown, but Paine and the new American conception of political society he did so much to popularize in Europe that turned the world upside down.”

Jack P. Greene, “Paine, America, and the ‘Modernization’ Of Political Consciousness,” Political Science Quarterly 93#1 (1978) pp 73–92

Early evidence of a withdrawal from the horrors and tyranny of slavery also appeared in this Libra period.  In 1804, New Jersey became the last of the northern United States to abolish slavery. In 1807 the UK abolished the slave trade in all of its colonies effective 1808 and synchronized with the USA at least making the small step to prohibit the importation of slaves into the USA.  During this period, the USA was very focused upon maintaining a (Libra) balance between slave and free states.  For example, in 1820 with the application of Maine to become a state, this would have upset the equality between slave and non-slave states, so it was agreed that Missouri would be admitted as a slave state.[11]  Despite this total incongruity with modern standards, Libras was still in place attempting a balancing act!

Wars

The further back in time we travel, the more wars and conflicts are found – but this applies only after  governments were formed commencing 5,000 years ago.  It does seem that the world is weaning itself off wars and conflicts, even though the spectacle of so many small wars and conflicts presented to us in the media promotes a far more violent view of the world than is real. The main war in this Libra period was the Napoleonic Wars (1805 – 1815) and included the minor War of 1812 between the UK and the USA which ended in a stalemate.  The wars had profound consequences on global history, including the spread of nationalism and liberalism, the rise of Britain as the world’s foremost naval and economic power for its almost century and half as the world’s superpower, the appearance of independence movements in Latin America and subsequent collapse of the Spanish Empire and Portuguese Empire, the fundamental reorganization of German and Italian territories into larger states, and the introduction of radically new methods of conducting warfare, as well as advances in civil law.

Napoleon, accidentally or otherwise, opened Pandora ’s Box, and with his demise, it was impossible for the conservative forces in western Europe to erase many of Napoleon’s political improvements.  The map of Europe changed dramatically in the hundred years following the Napoleonic Era.  Even the concept of the contemporary European Union saw its seed in the Napoleonic era – that of a unified Europe.

More French soldiers were casualties in the Napoleonic wars than in the First World War – it is estimated that 5 million people died due to the Napoleonic Wars.  The Napoleonic Wars transformed war to ‘total war’ due to the massive escalation of the size and scope of the Napoleonic Wars which is also an acknowledgement of the role played by the Sagittarius sub-age overflow (1791 – 1970) which has produced the ‘big’ modern world of mass production and mass consumption, including the mass production of military weapons.  The Napoleonic Wars were a stepping stone from pre-industrial wars to the two world wars of the 20th century.

Politics

Is a political union similar to marriage and therefore ruled by Libra?  It seems to be as in 1800 the separate kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland united into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, effective on January 1, 1801.

By 1815, Europe had been almost constantly at war and the military conquests of Napoleon had resulted in the spread of liberalism throughout much of the continent. Largely as a reaction to the radicalism of the French Revolution, the victorious powers of the Napoleonic Wars resolved to suppress liberalism and nationalism, and revert largely to the status quo of Europe prior to 1789 (i.e. back to the previous sub-age). In reaction was the establishment of the Concert of Europe, also known as the “Congress System” which created a balance of power that existed in Europe from 1815 until the early 20th century.[12]

China’s affinity to Libra is again on display when in 1793, the Chinese government rebuffed an attempt by the British to sell their manufactured goods to China and install a British ambassador in the Chinese court. Their first revolution in the 1330s was unsuccessful,[13] but this did occur before the arrival of the Age of Aquarius.  However, it did occur in a Libra micro-age and overflow (1314 – 1329 – 1344) within the Pisces sub-age (1254 – 1433) in its Cancer sub-age decan (1314 – 1373).  Their success in 1387 was in the Cancer sub-age overflow (1373 – 1433) which supports the notion that while Libra is associated with China, its Cancer connection is stronger.

Also very appropriate to Libra on a number of levels is the Era of Good Feelings (1816 – 1823/4) which marks a period in the political history of the USA that reflected a desire for unity among Americans in the aftermath of the War of 1812.  The era saw the collapse of the Federalist Party and an end to the bitter partisan disputes between it and the dominant Democratic-Republican Party during the First Party System. President James Monroe strove to downplay partisan affiliation in making his nominations, with the ultimate goal of national unity and eliminating political parties altogether from national politics. The period is so closely associated with Monroe’s presidency (1817–1825) and his administrative goals that his name and the era are virtually synonymous.[14]

The Monroe Doctrine began in 1823 and can readily be aligned with Libra as it involved a new balancing act – Old World European powers were not to reengage in the New World past whatever involvements already existing.  This was to prevent European countries from interfering in the newly independent states that were formerly colonies of Spain and Portugal.  In effect, the doctrine asserted that the New World and the Old World were to remain distinctly separate spheres of influence – Libra’s balance!

The Monroe Doctrine also created a de facto agreement between the USA and UK as the USA did not have the military means to enforce the Monroe Doctrine while the UK did – and the UK enforced it tactically as part of the wider Pax Britannica as it was also in the best interest of the UK that the newly independent American countries could trade freely with the UK – something that was limited if their former colonial powers took back possession of these countries. [15]

The promotion of ‘two parts’ is again experienced in 1791 when Britain split Canada into two parts, one for the British, the other for the French, with their own provinces and representative assemblies.[16]

Music & Art

In 1791 the Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, on his first visit to England, was awarded an honorary doctorate of music at the University of Oxford. This was the start of a very auspicious period for Haydn and audiences flocked to his concerts and he consequently made large profits, thus becoming financially secure. At one English concert it was reported:

“Haydn himself presided at the piano-forte; and the sight of that renowned composer so electrified the audience, as to excite an attention and a pleasure superior to any that had ever been caused by instrumental music in England.”

[17]

Haydn’s visits to England generated some of his best-known works and his biographer Griesinger wrote that Haydn “considered the days spent in England the happiest of his life. He was everywhere appreciated there; it opened a new world to him”.[18]  Returning to Vienna in 1795 he composed his two great oratorios, The Creation (1798) and The Seasons (1801). Both were enthusiastically received.  His last major composition was in 1802,[19] and thus Venus shone her light on Joseph Haydn at the end of his career.

Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 premiered in 1800 in Vienna.  Beethoven is one of the most admired composers in the history of Western music, whose works are ranked amongst the most performed of the classical music repertoire, and he experienced his middle period during this Libra MAD&OF.  His “middle” period showed an individual development from the “classical” styles of Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (who died age 35 in the first year of this Libra period), and is sometimes characterized as “heroic”, but most of his time as a composer is associated with the larger Libra MA&OF commencing 1791.  His “middle” period is characterized by many original works composed on a grand scale.[20]  In 1810 Beethoven composed his famous piano piece, Für Elise – one of his most popular compositions even though it was not published during his lifetime, only being discovered 40 years after his death in 1867.

Romanticism was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century and it started with the publication of Lyrical Ballads in 1798 anonymously by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth, which inaugurated the English Romantic movement in literature. Romanticism arrived in other parts of the English-speaking world later; in America, it arrived around 1820 – while the Libra period was still in force. The (Libra) physical landscape was prominent in the poetry of this period. The Romantics, and especially Wordsworth, are often described as “nature poets” aligned to Libra’s rulership of gardens.  Its peak influence was from 1800 to 1850 in reaction to industrialization and the Age of Enlightenment and was replaced by realism in the second half of the 19th century.  Romanticism placed a focus on medievalism and intense emotion as an authentic source of aesthetic experience, placing new emphasis on such emotions as apprehension, horror and terror, and awe—especially that experienced in confronting the new aesthetic categories of the sublimity and beauty of nature.[21]

The poet William Blake (1757–1827) was an early Romantic writer but was largely disconnected from the major streams of the literature of his time, and so was generally unrecognized during his lifetime, but is now considered a seminal figure in the history of both the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. Considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, Blake was held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work. Among his most important works are Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794), “and profound and difficult ‘prophecies'” such as Visions of the Daughters of Albion (1793), The Book of Urizen (1794), Milton (1804–1810) and Jerusalem The Emanation of the Giant Albion (1804–1820).

After Blake, other early Romantics were a small group of friends, including William Wordsworth (1770–1850), Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834), Robert Southey (1774–1843) and journalist Thomas De Quincey (1785–1859). However, at the time, Walter Scott (1771–1832) was the most famous poet. Scott achieved immediate success with his long narrative poem The Lay of the Last Minstrel in 1805, followed by the full epic poem Marmion in 1808. The early Romantic poets brought a new form of emotionalism and introspection, and their emergence is marked by the first romantic manifesto in English literature, the Preface to Lyrical Ballads (1798). In it Wordsworth discusses what he sees as the elements of a new type of poetry, one based on the “real language of men”, and which avoids the poetic diction of much 18th-century poetry. Here, Wordsworth gives his famous definition of poetry, as “the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings” which “takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility”. Coleridge contributed one of the greatest poems of English literature, the long Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Lord Byron is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential.  He wrote his most well-known work during the decade of 1810-19 within the very strong Libra micro-age overflow.  The Libran nature of his works can be shown to have strong Libran connotations just from their titles: She Walks in Beauty, When We Two Parted, and So, we’ll go no more a roving.  He was one of the leading figures of the Romantic Movement and a close friend of his fellow poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.[22]

The English landscape painter John Constable’s (1776 – 1837) three most famous works were painted in this Libra period: Wivenhoe Park (1816), Dedham Vale (1821) and The Hay Wain (1821) – though he did not financially benefit from his paintings in his lifetime. Constable also belonged to the Romantic tradition and revolutionized landscape painting – with landscapes strongly associated with Libra. Constable’s art inspired not only contemporaries like Géricault and Delacroix, but also the French impressionists of the late nineteenth century.[23]

Francisco Goya (1746 – 1828) was another famous Romantic artist and played a critical role in the transition to modern paintings. Despite going deaf in 1793, by 1795 he was appointed Director of the Royal Academy (Spain) and the prime courtly artist in the Spanish court.  He completed La Maja Desnuda, a remarkably daring nude for the time in the late 1790s.  This Libra period cover’s Goya’s middle (1793 – 1799) and Peninsular War (1808 – 1814) periods with the latter period witnessing The Second of May 1808 and The Third of May 1808 (see below), and preparing the series of etchings later known as The Disasters of War of which he was patently opposed towards.  In the early 20th century, Spanish master painters Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí drew influence from Los caprichos and the Black Paintings of Goya.[24]

The Third of May (El tres de mayo de 1808 en Madrid) by Francisco Goya commemorates Spanish resistance to Napoleon’s armies. This painting marks a clear break from convention by diverging from the traditions of Christian art and traditional depictions of war, it has no distinct precedent, and is acknowledged as one of the first paintings of the modern era.

It is interesting to briefly analyze the birth generations of some of these famous Romantics – not all of whom have been mentioned to date.  These famous Romantics include: Charlotte (1816 – 1855) and Emily Brontë (1818 – 1848) with both these sisters born in a Virgo-Virgo generation, along with Herman Melville (1819 – 1891) and Henry David Thoreau (1817 – 1862).  Alexandre Dumas (1802 – 1870) was born in a Libra-Libra generation, as was the case with Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 – 1882), Victor Hugo (1802 – 1885), Alexander Pushkin (1799 – 1837), George Sand (1804 – 1876) and Mary Shelley (1797 – 1851).  Straddling Libra and Virgo was Nikolai Gogol (1809 – 1852) born in a Libra-Virgo generation alongside Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849).  Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) and was born in a Cancer-Cancer generation, and Robert Burns (1759 – 1796) was born in an Aquarius-Aquarius generation alongside Mary Robinson (1757 – 1800) and Mary Wollstonecraft (1759 – 1797) explaining her revolutionary zeal for female equality. Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) was very appropriately born in a Capricorn-Capricorn generation as was Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827), Walter Scott (1771–1832), William Wordsworth (1770 – 1850) Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772 – 1834) and Robert Southey (1774–1843). Washington Irving (1783 – 1859) was born in a Capricorn-Sagittarius generation. Thomas De Quincey (1785–1859) was born in a Sagittarius-Sagittarius generation alongside Lord Byron (1788 – 1824). Percy Shelley (1792 – 1822) belonged to the Sagittarius-Libra generation.

Of the above 26 famous Romantics, nine were born with Libra as part of their generation representing one-third of all these Romantics suggesting that generational signatures have an impact.  [see Introduction to Generational Astrology ]

The 1816 premiere of The Barber of Seville opera by Gioachino Rossini and Cesare Sterbini has proven to be one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within music, and has been described as the comic opera all comic operas. After two hundred years, it remains a popular work.[25]  Shortly after in 1818 Silent Nigh” was first played in Austria. The song has been recorded by many singers across many music genres and the version sung by Bing Crosby in 1935 sold 10 million copies.[26]

Another artistic event of note in this period occurred in 1802 when Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, and British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, began the removal of the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon in Athens, supposedly due to the risk of destruction during the Ottoman occupation of Greece, but perhaps ungraciously retained and therefore represented as theft by some parties.  Nevertheless, the Elgin Marbles are ancient works of art, and suggest that the current Libra period may see some move towards the return of the ‘borrowed’ sculptures?  In 1793 the Louvre in Paris opened to the public and is currently the world’s largest art museum. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum to display the nation’s masterpieces.

Venus is the ruler of Libra, so again, it was very appropriate that in 1820, the statue of the Venus de Milo (Aphrodite of Milos, c.150 BC-125 BC) was discovered on the Greek island of Milos and is considered one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It is a marble sculpture and is currently on permanent display at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The statue is named after Aphrodite’s Roman name, Venus.[27]

Miscellaneous

The scale is a symbol of Libra, and in this Libra period, a great advance in measurement was made with the introduction of the metric system standardizing weights and measure.[28]  Libra’s affinity to all types of social events is demonstrated with the first Oktoberfest when the citizens of Munich were invited to join the Bavarian royalty in the celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on 12th October 1810. The source of Australia’s name was made in this period when Captain Mathew Flinders published A Voyage to Terra Australis in 1814[29] which again suggests a relationship between Libra and Australia?

There does not seem to be any consensus in the astrological community as to the rulership of cotton or textiles in general.  Certainly there is a Gemini element in their earlier pre-industrial manufacture, due to looms and manual dexterity involved (looms are traditionally associated with Mercury)[30], but the softness of textiles and their association with attractiveness implies that Libra is part of the crew.  In this Libra period, Eli Whitney invented the saw-gin for cleaning cotton which revolutionized what was formerly labor-intensive hand cleaning with one saw-gin believed to replace the work of 50 people.[31]

The Luddites appeared in this Libra period in England peaking from 1811 to 1816 comprised of a radical faction of textile workers who destroyed textile machinery as a form of protest against “a fraudulent and deceitful manner” to get around standard labor practices.  The protest was actually against the effects that the Industrial Revolution was having upon former small workshops that produced textile by manual labor.  Over time, the term has come to mean one opposed to industrialization, automation, computerization, or new technologies in general and of course ‘opposition’ is always a Libran archetype.  Mill and factory owners took to shooting protesters and eventually the movement was suppressed with legal and military force.[32]

Fashion is considered a Pisces archetype, but Libra, the sign of beauty nevertheless takes a role.  Fashion in the period 1795–1820 in western countries saw the practical and informal triumphant over (Capricorn) class-conscious clothes of the earlier 18th century at the end of the Capricorn sub-age overflow (1612 -1791). In the aftermath of the French Revolution, people began using clothing more as a form of individual expression than as an indication of (Capricorn) social status. This Libra period is located at the exact beginning of the Cancer sub-age decan and overflow (1791 – 1851 – 1910) which automatically undermines Capricorn archetypes such as tradition, social status and rank. The shifts that occurred in fashion at the turn of the 19th century granted the opportunity to present new public identities that also provided insights into their private selves (ruled by Cancer). Katherine Aaslestad indicates how “fashion, embodying new social values, emerged as a key site of confrontation between tradition and change.”

Beau Brummell introduced trousers, perfect tailoring, and unadorned, immaculate linen as the ideals of men’s fashion.  During the 1790s, incorporated in this new “natural” style was the importance of ease and comfort in dress and clothing became much lighter and more able to be changed and washed frequently. Even upper-class women began wearing cropped dresses as opposed to dresses with long trains or hoops that restricted them from leaving their homes. Women’s fashion was also influenced by male fashion, such as tailored waistcoats and jackets to emphasize women’s mobility.  It was also during this time period that the fashion magazine and journal industry began to take off that allowed men and women to keep up with the ever-changing styles.[33]

Conclusion

Females recovered and made a splash with this Libra period and the French revolutionaries even created the Goddess of Reason.  The first hints of feminism and female emancipation arrived with a flourish with Mary Wollstonecraft’s A Vindication of the Rights of Woman and King George IV mistress also had similar revolutionary and feminist fervor.  It’s no accident that the most famous female novelist of all times appeared in the guise of Jane Austen.  And finally China had its “dragon lady” as their pirate that came in from the cold.

The United States Bill of Rights creation in this period also sees Libra keeping alive its quest for justice.  The US Supreme Court flexed its nascent wings while in Europe, one silver lining to the Napoleonic Wars was the Napoleonic Code which was the first modern set of laws to apply to much of Europe and was instrumental throughout the world as a guide for legal improvement.   Thomas Paine’s The Rights of Man was another breakthrough in the liberal legal vendetta of recent centuries.

The Napoleonic Wars (1805 – 1815) claim to fame as the first modern war again promotes Libra as a sign of major opposing blocs including major military conflict.  Combined with previous major conflicts with every Libra period examined so far, it seems to be the most reliable of Libra archetypes and strongly suggests that every Libra period will have an out-of-the-ordinary conflict – which is particularly relevant for the contemporary Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029).

Political marriages may not be made in heaven, but they certainly favor Libra periods, and the creation of the UK by combining Great Britain and Ireland certainly fulfills Libra’s amorous side – even if a divorce took place later with the formation of the Irish Republic (1919-22).  The Napoleonic Wars also propelled Europe to create a balance of power that lasted until the early 1900s.  Meanwhile in the East, China rebuffed the British and their businessmen but had to contend with a resurgent While Lotus Society getting impatient for the promised era of peace and plenty under the second coming of Buddha. In the budding USA, they had their Era of Good Feelings (1816 – 1823/4) where they attempted to put aside their political divisions. The Monroe Doctrine also appeared putting European colonial powers on notice if they attempted to again infiltrate the Americas.  Canada divided into two parts reflecting the British and French heritages.

This Libra period saw many potent artists and musicians and while their activities were not limited to only this Libra period, they generally excelled within it. However, the rise of Romanticism can be basically aligned to this Libra period.   This period saw notable input from Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, William Wordsworth, William Blake, Walter Scott, Lord Byron (regarded as one of the greatest British poets), Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Constable and Francisco Goya.  A significant number of Romantics were born in a generation that included Libra.

The theft or protective relocation the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon in Athens also deserves a mention as does the opening of the Louvre in Paris leading it to become the world’s largest art museum.  The discovery of Venus de Milo is fitting response to this Libra period inaugurating the Libra quasi age-decan (1791 – 2507), which will be the most powerful manifestation of Libra in the world for around 7,000 years.

Other relevant events associated with Libra include the introduction of the metric system standardizing weights and measure, the first Oktoberfest and possibly the first circumnavigation of Australia.  If my speculation about a Libra element applying to cotton, then the invention of the saw-gin for cleaning cotton by Eli Whitney conforms to this argument, and to balance out all the advances of the Industrial Revolution, the reactionary Luddites appeared to oppose or resist this assault upon their welfare.  Fashion turned from class consciousness to the practical and informal affecting both men and women.

It cannot be overstressed that this Libra period is the threshold of the massive Libra quasi age-decan (1791 – 2507) and this small Libra period provided the concrete seeds for many of the developments that occurred after this small Libra period, with many more yet to arrive as Libra’s main period of influence will be the period 2149 to 2507. It is through the examination of each concentration of Libra since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius and Libra age-decan in 1433 that can provide us with a foretaste or expectations that will continue to develop over the course of most of the cureent millenium.

Astrological Ages are not like Sun-Signs

One regressive aspect associated with the Age of Aquarius is that most astrologers treat astrological ages like sun-sign astrology.  People tend to focus only on the ages – which is as absurd as only taking the sun-sign into account in horoscopic astrology and ignoring all the other planets, houses aspects and so on.  No serious astrologer would only use the sun in their astrological investigation, but this is what happens far too often with the astrological ages.

The astrological ages do provide the necessary framework for investigation, but ages are ultimately based on zodiacal signs, and zodiacal signs have structure.  Even many novice astrologers know about decanates (decans) with each sign divided into three.  For example, the three decans of Aquarius are Aquarius, Gemini and Libra, but because ages are retrograde, the Libran age decan is the first age–decan encountered in the Age of Aquarius followed by the Gemini and Aquarius age-decans.

Furthermore, for over 2,000 years, astrologers have also divided each zodiacal sign into 12 equal parts called dodecatemoria in Hellenistic astrology and dwadasamsa in Vedic astrology and sometimes referred to as the micro-zodiac.  These also are encountered in reverse order, so that the first dodo/dwad in the Age of Aquarius is Capricorn, followed by Sagittarius, Scorpio, Libra and so on concluding with Aquarius.

This process does not end there!  While astrologers may have employed decans and even dodos/dwads at various times over the last 2,000 years, apart from some very keen Vedic astrologers and western harmonic astrologers, very little attention has been paid to smaller zodiacal divisions.  However, due to the glacial movement of the astrological ages, these smaller divisions have relevance as an age of some 2155 years has three age-decans of some 718 years each, and 12 sub-ages (dodos/dwads) of almost 180 years each.  But it does not stop there either.

Research clearly provides confirmation that sub-ages have 12 micro-ages of around 15 years each, and these even have smaller divisions of 12 nano-ages per micro-age of some 15 months each.  And of course, sub-ages have sub-age decans, micro-ages have micro-age decans and nano-ages have nano-age decans .  Surprisingly, decans seem to have more clout than whole signs in macro-astrology.  [see Age of Aquarius for Dummies ]

The upshot of all this is when you hear astrologers discussing the astrological ages, if they are not employing smaller divisions than the whole age – they are mimicking sub-sign astrology in newspapers.  This is not serious astrology.  The whole blurred cusp debate by most protagonists never introduces smaller divisions than ages, and so remains on the level of sun-sign astrology (i.e. kindergarten astrology).  For example, many astrologers believe that there can be many centuries of transition between astrological ages – but what about age-decans?  Do they have many centuries of transition?  How about a sub-age of some 179 years – do they have centuries of transitions – or decades?  Does a 15 year micro-age at the very end or beginning of an age get blurred over centuries?

The whole situation with the astrological ages is laughable as most run-of-the-mill astrologers believe that there are many centuries of blurring between each age, yet in Nicholas Campion’s Book of World Horoscopes, he has pages of dates that research astrologers have tendered for the start of the Age of Aquarius.  This farce is due to the fact that mainstream astrology is rejected by science, and so the intellectual integrity associated with astrology has no consistency or uniformity.  As a field of study, astrology stretches from the everything-must-be-true end of astrology to a strict academic approach with most astrologers sitting somewhere in the middle.

Usually when I see any mention of the Age of Aquarius without any reference to any sub-periods, I find that 80% or so of the time, it is produced by an everything-must-be-true kind of astrologer.  But because most material on the astrological ages is of this ilk, very little clarity exists on the astrological ages in the astrological community.  The fantasies associated with the astrological ages have over 2,000 years of momentum, and it is difficult trying to stop a long train at high speed going in the wrong direction – but a paradigm shift is in progress.

One reason the fantasy continues is that it is outside of the realm of possibility by most astrologers that the first astrologer to set up the calibration technique for measuring the astrological ages made a major mistake.  I can remember stating this at a Hellenistic astrology conference and immediately the barriers went up – how could I say such a thing about an early Hellenistic astrologer! They were of the opinion that the Hellenistic Greeks virtually invented astrology and were treated almost religiously!  The Greeks did invent ‘modern’ horoscopic astrology with an ascendant, but they definitely did not invent astrology!

This ancient mistake is so major that it means that using Hipparcus’ technique, the ages are about 1,100 years ‘late’.  Now this may seem extraordinary, but it creates a Catch-22.  Because of this massive error, the ages are relatively useless for accurate for accurate correlations and predictions, but they do work OK in a relative sense because of quasi-ages.

The technique that Hipparchus created in the late 2nd century BC was based on the position of the Vernal Point (location of the Sun sitting in a zodiacal constellation at zero degrees tropical Aries around 21st March each year).  While this does not correctly or accurately calibrate astrological ages, it does correlate to quasi ages.  What this means is that the Pisces quasi age (359 – 2503) does coincide with Hipparchus’ technique, though he thought he had found the Age of Pisces and obviously did not know about quasi-ages.  This may be confusing to most astrologers as nearly everyone states that Jesus Christ was born at the beginning of the Pisces age, and even the incorrect method employed by Hipparchus refuses to have the fake Age of Pisces arrive in time for Jesus.

Hipparchus (c.190 BC – c.120 BC) Image in the Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=630396

However, this has been no problem for astrologers, as they just changed the goal posts and state that the Pisces age arrived in time for the birth of Jesus without any substantiation from anywhere.  There are two main reasons for this – most people place the avatar(s) of their own cultures in an exalted position, and will fiddle the books to achieve this. The other reason is that astrologers could never really use the fake ages effectively, as they are fake, and so it was all a messy business and why bother with the problematic details when everything is a mirage of smoke and mirrors anyway.  The Jupiter-Saturn synodic cycle partly filled the void instead.

It seems appropriate that the defining moment of the astrological ages by Hipparchus was erroneous  as they have remained pseudo ages for coincidentally the length of an age (c.2150 years) and just remain a shadow or possibility compared to most areas of astrology that have integrity.  Who should expect clarity from Pisces?  If it was the Virgo age, it would have been a totally different story.

One interesting aspect of this mess associated with the birth of the astrological ages is that Hipparchus’ technique for calibrating the astrological ages is relatively excellent for calibrating quasi-ages.  However, the big difference between quasi-ages and ages is that the subdivision of ages into age-decan, sub-ages and so on can never occur with quasi-ages, and must always be sourced back to the true ages.  For example, the three age-decan of any age must be derived from the age, not quasi-age.  The three sub-age decans cannot be derived from a quasi-age but the real age.  However, the quasi-age is excellent for perceiving which sign on the level of ages is the key sign.  So while the Age of Aquarius arrived in 1433, the world remains solidly in the Pisces quasi age until the year c.2053.  This is why astrologers believe we are on the cusp of the Pisces and Aquarian ages as even a relatively cursory assessment of the world displays the strength of both Pisces and Aquarius archetypes at this point in time.

If anything, due to the nebulous and inexact nature of Pisces, the world remains more medieval than modern, though most people are deluded that we live in a modern world just because we have computers and rockets heading to the moon and Mars.  You only have to scratch the surface to see the prevalence of medievalism.  Medievalism is more based on faith and belief than facts or knowledge.  In the medieval world, anything that takes place that is ‘unpleasant’ or counter to the beliefs of the observer can just be labelled as fake news.  The contemporary approach to the astrological ages by most astrologers is an excellent example of medievalism in action.  According to our place in the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 3581) – this is to be expected as the first half of the Age of Aquarius (1433 – 2503) corresponds to the peak strength of Pisces in the 26,000 years cycle of the ages as ages behave like waves, not bricks in a wall.

So the next time you come across the astrological ages, and only the astrological ages, without any context of smaller periods within the ages, rest assured you are most likely experiencing the equivalent of an astrologer that can only talk about sun-signs and cannot even produce a horoscope.  It is a rarity that any sun-sign prediction I read about myself has any connection to what actually happens in the day, week, month or year ahead – though I must admit, when I read a sun-sign prediction, but substituting my sun with my ascendant sign, the accuracy significantly increases.  Nevertheless, no serious astrologer is going to be limited to only their sun-sign or ascendant, and no serious astrologer presenting the astrological ages is going to be limited to only the age unless they are only discussing mega-history, which by its very nature, is vague and obtuse.

It seems appropriate with all the recent claims of fake news, that we should have fake ages.

Libra micro-age decan & overflow (Sep 1746 – Sep 1751 – Aug 1756)

Within the Aquarius micro-age (Sep 1746 – Aug 1761) sits the Libra MAD&OF (Sep 1746 – Sep 1751 – Aug 1756) mimicking the similar Libra period coinciding with the First World War and Spanish Flu.  This Libra period is associated with the might of the Sagittarius quasi sub-age (1701 – 1880) sitting in the middle of the full Sagittarius sub-age and overflow (1612 – 1791 – 1970). This Sagittarius sub-age and overflow can be attributed with the modern economic miracle that has created the world today.

War & Conflict

War also makes its mark with the beginning of the Seven Years’ War (1756 – 1763) at the very end of this Libra period.  Such was the magnitude of the Seven Years’ War that some historians call it World War Zero as many considered it a world war[1] harking back to the Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) of the previous Libra period that was considered the first global war.  This strongly insinuates a diachronic relationship between major wars and these Libra periods and therefore should be of concern to us in the early 21st century with the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029).

The result of the Seven Years’ War propelled Great Britain into its superpower status, and curtailed the influence of France and Spain.  The Seven Years’ War in the North American theater was called the French and Indian War (1754 – 1763).  The UK obviously benefitted immensely from the Sagittarius quasi sub-age (1701 – 1880) suggesting this sign belongs in the UK’s astrological signature.

Under Pitt’s leadership, Britain’s position as the leading colonial power was confirmed by the Seven Years’ War.

Libra’s association with peace, despite its promotion of conflict, is clearly demonstrated in 1749 when at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas (then a part of the New Spain province of Nuevo Santander), four Apache chiefs and Spanish colonial officials and missionaries literally buried the hatchet by placing weapons of war into a pit and covering it as a symbol that the Apaches and the Spaniards will fight no further war against each other![2]

Females

Another possible first for women was that of Hannah Snell (1723 – 1792), a British woman who disguised herself as a man and became a soldier.  After giving birth to a daughter (who lived only one year), Hannah borrowed a man’s suit and name, and began to search for her errant husband, who had abandoned her, only to learn that her husband had been executed. In 1745. She joined the army of the Duke of Cumberland against Bonnie Prince Charlie but deserted when her sergeant gave her 500 lashes and so she moved to Portsmouth and joined the Marines. In August 1748, her unit was sent to capture the French colony of Pondicherry in India. Later, she also fought in the battle in Devicottail in 1749 where she was wounded in the legs eleven times.  She was also shot in her groin and, to avoid revealing her sex, she instructed a local woman to take out the bullet instead of being tended by the regimental surgeon.  In 1750, her unit returned to Britain and traveled from Portsmouth to London, where she revealed her sex to her shipmates. She petitioned the Duke of Cumberland, the head of the army, for her pension – which was granted.[3]  In 1750 in London, Hanna Snell was on stage performing military drills in uniform playing in The Female Soldier.  Hannah Snell may have provided some inspiration to Sir Terry Pratchett’s novel Monstrous Regiment?

Libra’s rulership over marriage was also on display with the Marriage Act 1753, full title “An Act for the Better Preventing of Clandestine Marriage”, which was the first statutory legislation in England and Wales to require a formal ceremony of marriage. Previously, the only indispensable requirement was that the marriage be celebrated by an Anglican clergyman.[4]

The first female medical doctor in Germany graduated in 1754 at the age of 39 and approved by the king after she was declared a quack for her work with the poor before she was able to return to her formal medical studies.[5]  In 1748 Eva Ekeblad became the first female member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences – but only as an honorary member.  She was widely known for discovering a method in 1746 to make alcohol and flour from potatoes, allowing greater use of scarce grains for food production, significantly reducing Sweden’s incidence of famine.[6]

The Arts

Noticeable artistic developments also appeared in this Libra period. The Libra period saw the final years of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) who was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period and since the 19th-century, he has been generally regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time.  Two large-scale compositions occupied a central place in Bach’s last years. From around 1742 he wrote and revised The Art of Fugue, which has been described as:

“Bach’s most universal church work. Consisting mainly of recycled movements from cantatas written over a thirty-five-year period, it allowed Bach to survey his vocal pieces one last time and pick select movements for further revision and refinement.”

Although the complete mass was never performed during the composer’s lifetime, it is considered to be among the greatest choral works in history[7] – a fitting achievement under this Libra period with the help of Sagittarius!

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712 – 1778) was a Genevan philosopher, writer, and composer and his political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe, as well as aspects of the French Revolution and the development of modern political, economic and educational thought. His Discourse on Inequality and The Social Contract published in this Libra period are cornerstones in modern political and social thought. In Discourse on Inequality (1755) Rousseau explained how people may have established civil society, and this led him to conclude that private property is the original source and basis of all inequality.

“The first person who, having enclosed a plot of land, took it into his head to say this is mine and found people simple enough to believe him, was the true founder of civil society”

The Social Contract (1762) is a book in which Rousseau theorized about the best way to establish a political community in the face of the problems of commercial society, which he had already identified in his Discourse on Inequality. The Social Contract helped inspire political reforms or revolutions in Europe, especially in France as it argued against the idea that monarchs were divinely empowered to legislate. Rousseau asserts that only the people, who are sovereign, have that all-powerful right.[8]

Charles Batteux’s The Fine Arts Reduced to a Single Principle was published in Paris in 1746, putting forward for the first time the idea of “les beaux arts” (the fine arts). The 1749 publication of The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, often known simply as Tom Jones, is a comic novel by Henry Fielding. It is among the earliest English works to be classified as a novel and is the earliest novel mentioned by W. Somerset Maugham in his 1948 book Great Novelists and Their Novels among the ten best novels of the world.[9]

In 1750, the Louvre Museum was created in Paris four years after public pressure on the King to allow the display of the royal art collection to the general public. An initial arrangement displayed 110 of the Crown’s paintings at the Palais du Luxembourg. This year also saw the first documented presentation of a musical in New York” at the Nassau Street Theatre, when a resident company of actors staged The Beggar’s Opera. In 1751, English poet Thomas Gray first published Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard claimed to be:

“probably still today the best-known and best-loved poem in English”.[10]

In 1752, the first performance of a Shakespearean play in America was performed when a company of players staged The Merchant of Venice in Williamsburg, Virginia.   In 1753, Spain’s Royal Academy of the Fine Arts was formally established, eight years after first being proposed to King Fernando VI. The foundation of the Royal Academy is considered by historians to be “an essential step in modernizing Spain” during the Spanish Enlightenment.

David Garrick (1717 – 1779) was an English actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer who influenced nearly all aspects of theatrical practice throughout the 18th century, and was a pupil and friend of Dr. Samuel Johnson. Very quickly after the arrival of this Libra period, Garrick partly took over the Drury Lane Theatre in April 1747 after some years of decline, leading to great success and accolades. The first performance opened with an Ode to Drury Lane Theatre, read by Garrick and written by his friend, Dr Johnson. The ode promised the patrons that

“The drama’s law the drama’s patrons give,

For we that live to please must please to live.”[11]

Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure—popularly known as Fanny Hill (possibly an Anglicization of the Latin mons veneris, mound of Venus)—is an erotic novel by English novelist John Cleland first published in London in 1748.  Its major departure from accepted morals of the times was that it was widely considered to be the first work to focus on the idea of sexual deviance being an act of pleasure, rather than something that was simply shameful.[12] Thus this book contributes to the multi-century liberation of women.

Casanova (1725 – 1798), the virtual living god of love, was in his heyday during this Libra period, as in 1755 he was imprisoned for his various and nefarious misdeeds according to the religious morals of those times.  He has become so famous for his often complicated and elaborate love affairs that his name is now synonymous with “womanizer”. No matter where he resided his police records usually involved a long list of reported blasphemies, seductions, fights, and public controversies.  He set off on a grand tour heading to Paris in 1750 and along the way he got into sexual escapades resembling operatic plots from one town to the next.  Casanova claimed to be a Rosicrucian and an alchemist, aptitudes which made him popular with some of the most prominent figures of the era, among them Madame de Pompadour, Count de Saint-Germain, d’Alembert, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.  Due to Casanova’s exploits, the noun “Casanova” means “Lover; especially a man who is a promiscuous and unscrupulous lover”.   His autobiography, Story of My Life, written after this Libra period, is regarded as one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th century.[13]

Libra’s association with sugar is reinforced by the invention of extracting sugar from beets by a German chemist in 1747using alcohol and one of his students went on to devise an economical industrial method later in the century which created the sugar industry in Europe.[14]  Sugar sits on the dark side of Libra!

The minuet was a new style of elegant dance that dominated European ballrooms from around 1650 for about a century and has been called “the age of the minuet”.  It was a precursor to the waltz. At the great balls of the French court at Versailles, the minuet was the high point of the festivities, which culminated in a suite of dances.  It is highly synchronous that this new dance craze came into vogue in the middle of this small Libra period, and Libra seems to have provided the timing for what otherwise is usually associated with Pisces.

The Royal Society of the Arts was established in England in 1754 but until it received its Royal Charter in 1908, was called Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.  This is the first known organization to use the word “sustainability” in the environmental sense (in 1980). By 1754, a notable change in style was noted in France with the first appearance of the boudoir – a room dedicated to women.  Also, interior design moved from the (Capricorn) formal and stately to the elegant with gardens becoming naturalistic and furniture more comfortable and light.[15]

America

In 1754 Benjamin Franklin called for the “voluntary” union of the 13 British colonies in North America supported by the British governments in an attempt to solve the Indian problem.  Though the union was primarily oriented towards the American Indians, those Indians present were left dissatisfied as their interests were being undermined.[16]

Conclusion

Such was the magnitude of the Seven Years’ War (1756 – 1763) it was called World War Zero as it was noted to have similarities to the Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) of the previous Libra period that was considered the first global war.  Major war or conflict should be expected in Libra micro-ages and micro-age decans by default! The Seven Years’ War was based on a major realignment of European alliances which shifted the European balance of power and ticking the Libra box. There was no particular famous female from this period, but Hanna Snell fills the void with her disguise as a male soldier.  The first statutory regulation of marriage in England and Wales is also a salute to Libra and the first female doctor in Germany indicates Libra was not asleep.  It should be noted that this is the final Libra backbone in the weakest quarter (1433 – 1791) of the full Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149) and overflow (2149 – 2865) and so we should not expect an overwhelming influence of Libra at this first o0f four stages of the Libra age-decan and overflow.

The arts however was on a roll with the final years of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) considered one of the greatest composers of all time, Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712 – 1778) with his The Social Contract and Discourse on Inequality, and Charles Batteux’s promotion of the fine arts.  The age of the minuet promoting elegant dancing and ultimately leading to the Waltz is also appropriate for Libra.  Tom Jones by Henry Fielding possibly produced the earliest of the great English novelists.  The opening of the Louvre Museum in Paris, the first musical in New York and first Shakespearean play in America, possibly the best known poem in England and Spain’s Royal Academy of the Fine Arts and the success of the Drury Lane Theatre in London are witnesses to the strength of Libra at this point of time. The Royal Society of the Arts was established in England.

The erotic Fanny Hill contributed to the multi-century liberation of women and the alignment of Casanova in peak form, the virtual living god of love, indicates Libra’s presence and also provided valuable historical information about European social life of the time.  Libra’s addiction to sugar is again evident with the invention of extracting sugar from beets. A call for the “voluntary” union of the 13 British colonies in North America by Benjamin Franklin was a foretaste of what was to come!

Libra micro-age decan & overflow (January 1692 – December 1701)

The Gemini micro-age (Jan 1687 – Dec 1701) contains a Libra MAD&OF (Jan 1692 – Jan 1697 – Dec 1701) and mimics to a certain extent the early 21st-century configuration – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2029). The major influence of the late 17th century was the Leo sub-age decan overflow (1672 – 1731) which appropriately restored the English monarchy and all the opulent embellishments made taboo during the grim years of Cromwell’s Puritans. This period called The Restoration commenced prior to this Libra period in 1660 when the pendulum of English morality swung from repression to license more or less overnight.  This small Libra period was therefore rejoicing in its newly returned frivolity of all types.

The First Global War

Once again, a major conflict was in place though it had already commenced prior to this Libra period, but it was mostly within the Libra period that the fiercest fighting occurred in 1692-3.  The Nine Years’ War (1688–1697) was a conflict between France and an opposing European coalition which included England, Spain and Portugal with theatres also in North America and India. Its importance in association with this Libra period is that this war is not only considered to be the first global war – but also is considered a precursor to the two world wars of the 20th century.

The Nine Years’ War encompassed Ireland and Jacobite risings in Scotland (with some later elements of the Jacobite risings partly portrayed in the TV series Outlander), and North America between French and English settlers and their respective Indigenous allies.  England was once again threatened by invasion, this time by the new European bully – France (which had replaced Spain as the key European power to be reckoned with, but this imminent invasion was thwarted by the destruction of the French navy in 1692.  The last year of this Libra period saw the beginning of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–1714) due to unresolved issues of the Nine Years’ War with a focus on maintaining the (Libra) balance of power between different European countries.[1]

Politics

In 1693, William Penn’s (the founder of Pennsylvania) growing concern about the devastation of perennial (Aries) war in Europe resulted in his observation that a “European dyet, or parliament”,[2] was necessary to prevent further war, without going into details.  This is why the Libra world that is coming our way will probably include an international government as even in 1693, people recognized that without an overarching government, such as maintained in the heyday of Ancient Rome, the Mongol Empire and so on, peace is otherwise difficult if not impossible. Genghis Khan is believed to have boasted that a virgin carrying a bag of gold could traverse his empire by foot without fear. Those regions such as Ancient Greece that never unified were always at war with each other.  Indian and Chinese states were regularly at war with each other except when united under one ruler.

In 1692 the Chinese emperor issued the Edict of Toleration of Christianity followed in 1698 with a similar statement of Islam stating:

“Even if you pacify the Hui people and then impede their religious practice, would it be possible to convert them to Buddhism, and have them bow and pray before the lamas? Now that the empire is at peace, make things run the way they are. Forcing them to assimilate is definitely not practical.”[3]

USA & Australia

This period saw the first known publication of an anti-slavery text in the future USA by Samuel Sewall in 1700.  In The Selling of Joseph (1700), he came out strongly against slavery, making him one of the earliest colonial abolitionists.  Sewell argued, “Liberty is in real value next unto Life: None ought to part with it themselves, or deprive others of it, but upon the most mature Consideration.”[4]  The first permanent European settlement of Louisiana occurred in 1699 (now in Mississippi) but the first European explorers had arrived in 1528 in a previous Libra period – the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (December 1527 – November 1537).

Some major discoveries of Australia’s western coastline during this Libra period was made by William Dampier (c.1651 – 1715).  In 1699 Dampier voyaged to New Holland (Australia) and though he was commissioned to explore the east coast, he actually arrived on the west coast (Western Australia) and then travel north, ending up in Timor and also explored the north coast of New Guinea.  His navigational prowess aided later voyages by James Cook and Horatio Nelson and his notes of the flora and fauna was read by Joseph Banks who later became the naturalists on some of Cook’s voyages.  Dampier’s’ voyages influenced a number of novels including Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s Travels and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and he believed to be the first to write in English the words “barbecue”, “avocado”, “chopsticks” and “sub-species” plus first recorded the recipes for guacamole and mango chutney.[5]

Females & Witches

With Libra’s female focus, the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials (1692 – 1693) accused more than 200 people of witchcraft with 30 found guilty, 19 were executed by hanging (14 women and five men). One other man was pressed to death for refusing to plead, and at least five people died in jail. It was the deadliest witch hunt in the history of colonial North America. Only fourteen other women and two men had been executed in Massachusetts and Connecticut during the 17th century.  The after effects of these trials at least produced the pertinent insight that:

“it were better that one hundred Witches should live, than that one person be put to death for a witch, which is not a Witch” [6]

This shattered the ideal of theocracy in North America based on governments supposedly having God at its head – similar to the aims of ISIS (ISIL) in the early 21st century. Samuel Sewall was one of the judges of the Salem witch trials but later retracted his position and publicly acknowledged his guilt and expressed contrition for condemning the witches on trial.

The Scottish Paisley witches were tried in 1697 after the young daughter of the Laird of Bargarran, complained of being tormented by some local witches – which included one of her family’s servants, whom she had reported after witnessing her steal a drink of milk.  Seven people were found guilty of having bewitched Shaw and were condemned to death – the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe.  Shortly afterwards the former Scottish Secretary of State stated that:

“the parliaments of France and other judicatories who are persuaded of the being of witches never try them now because of the experience they have had that it’s impossible to distinguish possession from nature in disorder”.[7]

These witchcraft trials represent the ending phase of the persecution of mainly (Libra) females as witches, and any Libra period will promote positive or negative events associated with women.

The Arts

The Relapse, (also known as Virtue in Danger) was a Restoration comedy from 1696. This play is a sequel to Colley Cibber’s Love’s Last Shift where a free-living Restoration rake is brought to repentance and reform by the ruses of his wife, while in The Relapse, the rake succumbs again to temptation and has a new love affair while his virtuous wife is also subjected to a determined seduction attempt, and resists with difficulty. In the 18th century, the prevailing tolerant attitude towards actual and attempted adultery gradually became unacceptable, and the original play was for a century replaced on the stage by a moralized version A Trip to Scarborough. On the modern stage, The Relapse has been established as one of the most popular Restoration comedies.  The Libra connection is obvious.

William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World was first performed in London in 1700.  It is widely regarded as one of the best Restoration comedies, initially however, the play struck many audience members as continuing the immorality of the previous decades, and was not well received. In 1700, the world of London theatre-going had changed significantly because Charles II jubilant court, that had reveled in its licentiousness and opulence, had been replaced by the far more dour and utilitarian Dutch-inspired court of William of Orange –  a military king who was reported to be hostile to drama.

One of the features of a Restoration comedy is the (Libra) opposition of the witty and courtly (and Cavalier) rake and the dull-witted man of business or the country bumpkin, who is understood to be not only unsophisticated but often either Puritan or another form of dissenter. In 1685, the courtly and Cavalier side was in power, and Restoration comedies belittled the bland and foolish losers of the Restoration. However, by 1700, the other side was ascendant.

The Way of the World’s recreation of the older Restoration comedy’s patterns is only one of the things that made the play unusual.  The 1688 revolution concerning the overthrow of James II created a new set of social codes primarily amongst the bourgeoisie – their rise can be attributed to the newly arrived Sagittarius sub-age (1612 – 1791) bringing wealth and a growing middle class. The new capitalist system meant an increasing emphasis on property and property law. Thus, the play is packed with (Libra) legal jargon and financial and (Libra) marital contracts. These new (Libra) legal aspects allowed some female characters to secure their freedom through an equitable trust and for equality in marriage through a prenuptial agreement.[8]

Also appropriately for this Libra period, The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 by Henry Purcell (1659 – 1695), a semi-opera and a “Restoration spectacular”. The libretto is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Purcell works were a uniquely English form of Baroque music and he is considered to be the greatest English composer up until the 20th century.  Five of his most notable seven works were composed during this Libra period.  Though not commonly known, his music has been widely applied in the 20th century. He composed an anthem and two elegies for Queen Mary II’s funeral which provided the title music of the 1971 film by Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange. Pete Townsend of The Who states that Purcell was an influence in their music including the introduction to Pinball Wizard as was the case with the Pet Shop Boys.  Purcell’s compositions also found their way into the movie Kramer vs. Kramer, the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, and the German-language 2004 movie, Downfall to name a few. He died in 1695 during this Libra period at the height of his fame.[9]

Some eponymous female characters appeared in this Libra period when in 1697 the French writer Charles Perrault published Mother Goose tales, a collection of popular fairy tales, including Cinderella, Red Riding Hood and The Sleeping Beauty.  Libra’s aesthetic side was on display in 1693 when the first known form of eau de Cologne was created. In 1700, an inventory made for the Medici family of Florence contains the first documented evidence of a piano, invented by their instrument keeper Bartolomeo Cristofori.

Conclusion

The precursor of the two 20th century world wars but with France the protagonist against most other European powers indicates that Libra is not shy when it comes to major conflicts.  Such was the atmosphere of conflict that William Penn introduced the concept of a united Europe which had to wait until the arrival of the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149) to see this dream manifest as a partial reality with the creation of the European Union.  On the other side of the world, China was turning towards religious toleration for its Muslim subjects and newly arrived Christians.  The earliest anti-slavery text in North America highlights a very early example of the precursor to the Black Lives Matter movement but the author was complicit at the infamous Salem witch trials again demonstrate the active persecution of mainly women and this same period saw the last mass execution for witchcraft in Western Europe following the Scottish Paisley witch trials.  The turning point for the persecution of witches seems to have occurred with this Libra period.  Australia also continued getting attention under Libra with much of the remaining uncharted coastline of north west of Australia mapped by William Dampier while in North America, Louisiana was first settled.

Marital comedies with relevant social issues were the rage with The Relapse and William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World. The Fairy-Queen was first produced in 1692 and the first appearances of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty brought the world these very famous female characters.  The appearance of eau de Cologne and the first known piano cements this period to archetypes belonging to Libra.

Libra in Australia

December 2019 witnessed the arrival of the Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024), and it is now making itself felt in Australia – and some would say with a vengeance, as Libra rules justice and women amongst other archetypes.  Historical research shows that when Libra is strong, that there is a greater than average focus upon women, for better or worse, and a push for justice.

The female focus is not always positive, as the examination of previous similar Libra periods, since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius in the 15th century, indicates that the level of persecution against females reached new heights – especially in the early centuries of the Age of Aquarius when many governments passed laws against witches who were usually just mature intelligent women.  This mainly occurred under the dark auspices of the Capricorn sub-age and overflow (1433 – 1612 – 1791) when Satan allegorically took control or highly influenced many institutions including religions.  In the following centuries, the obstruction of women shifted from witches to preventing females from being able to vote, and a whole host of laws persecuting women such as the criminalization of abortion, lack of property rights, and so on.  Even in ‘modern’ Australia, women are prejudiced in their income level compared to men doing the same job not to mention the glass ceiling.

Of course, the environment for females has also seen exponential improvement since the arrival of the first age-decan in the Age of Aquarius – the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149), more so in western nations and less so in less developed nations.  But what most astrologers do not know is that we are approaching the business end of the Libra age-decan (1433 – 2149) further emphasized by the final sub-age – which is of the same zodiacal sign.  Currently the world is in the Libra sub-age (1970 – 2149), and this combined with the Libra age-decan indicates the heat is being turned up for all Libra archetypes.  Furthermore, the current Libra micro-age decan is the first appearance of a Libra micro-age decan in the current Libra sub-age, and this Libra micro-age decan can be called the baptism of the Libra sub-age (but not the baptism of the massive Libra age-decan).  Baptisms get the ball rolling – or moving in a new direction!

Since February 2021, the Australian government commenced getting overwhelmed by charges of sexual assault by female government staffers, commencing with claims by Brittany Higgins that:

“she was raped by a colleague in the offices of the defence minister in 2019 just before the election and that she felt she was told a police report would affect her future employment as a staffer.”

A string of claims have subsequently come to light including against Christian Porter, a federal cabinet minister who is alleged he viciously raped a fellow student when he was 17 and she was 16. Due to the woman recently committing suicide, any alleged offense cannot easily or readily be taken before a law court due to her death.  The alleged cover up of sexual assaults has revealed the injustice applied to women who find themselves embroiled in issues of sexual assault by their ‘superiors’.  It seems that every few days, another woman comes forward with more accusations of sexual assault against them involving the Australian government.

The 2021 Australian of the year and sexual assault survivor Grace Tame recently stated:

‘we are on the precipice of a revolution’

…. and the astrology agrees with her. Her address to the (Australian) National Press Club covered a number of issues including:

“The upshot of allowing predators a voice but not survivors encourages the criminal behaviour.”

Grace was fairly scathing of the Australian (federal) government’s handling of the recent sexual assault allegations.

It appears that the new generation of younger Australian women or not ‘behaving’ and instead creating a commotion against sexual assault.  This does coincide with the current Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) which is the latest vertebrae to appear in the backbone of the massive Libra age-decan and overflow (1413 – 2149 – 2865).  In thousands of years’ time, the current millennium will probably be known as the Millennium of Women!

Independent of sexual assault, Libra promotes justice and female equality, and the case of Kathleen Folbigg, who has been in prison for 17 years following the death of four of her babies, again raises the issue of injustice applied to females. Leading scientific experts are now arguing that all four of her children had rare genetic conditions that could explain their deaths.  This case possibly harks back to the imprisonment of Lindy Chamberlain following the death of her baby by a dingo – this was clearly nothing else other than a modern witch persecution.

Australian sex discrimination commissioner Kate Jenkins, appointed to lead a review into parliament’s workplace culture, believes Australia is at a “turning point” on sexual harassment and assault. “I’ve never seen any moment like this,” she said.

Libra will not affect every country or region equally, as it depends upon the specific astrological signature.  In Australia’s case, it appears that Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aries are in Australia’s astrological signature, and despite Libra being opposite in nature to Aries, there is a good case to include Libra at some place on Australia’s totem pole.  This is supported by the fact that Abel Tasman virtually discovered Australia (for Europeans) in an earlier Libra period:

“The discovery of Tasmania (an island south of the Australian mainland) and New Zealand in 1642 by Abel Tasman (1603 – 1659) followed by the charting of northern and western Australia (New Holland) two years later suggests a Libra connection to Australia and New Zealand especially as these voyages occurred at the pinnacle of this Libra period.”

See: Libra micro-age and overflow (April 1627 – May 1642 – April 1657)

For most people outside of Australia, the above sexual assault issue is something they either are unaware of, or perhaps have heard some brief news in the media, one way or another.  This begs the question, how many other countries or regions are experiencing Libra’s lash but unknown internationally?  We don’t usually think that Libra has a hard side, but many ancient cultures oftentimes associated Venus, the ruler of Libra, with war or conflict.  It would be interesting to learn all the areas internationally where Libra is currently making its mark?  The election of Kamala Harris as the first female vice president in the USA is part of Libra’s machinations – and the BIG question is – will she become president?  The Black Lives Matter is certainly another example of Libra making its presence felt.  Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has increasingly been demonized.

Currently, the world is in the weakest quarter of the Libra micro-age decan and overflow (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024 – Nov 2029) and the temperature should be significantly turned up around 2024 – 2027 when Libra is in its most powerful quarter.  There are many unanswered questions about what we should expect in the rest of the current Libra period – but the one thing is certain, Libra archetypes will be promoted.  One of the most interesting aspects of the zodiacal signs is they can reinvent and produce new twists on established archetypes.  We have to look for any new twists to Libra. For example, Libra is guilty of the obesity epidemic that has only really appeared in the world since the arrival of the Libra sub-age in 1970.   It is possible that the relative inaction of the majority of countries around the world in their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic can be attributed to Libra – the sign of inaction!

Virtually no one alive today has experienced the current level of Libra that arrived in December 2019, as the last Libra period of similar strength occurred from December 1910 to October 1920 – a stressful period known for the First World War and Spanish Flu.  To keep up to date with my research on Libra periods since the arrival of the Age of Aquarius, please see The Backbone of the Libra Age-Decan (1433 – 2149).

POSTSCRIPT

Not only does the Libra micro-age decan (Dec 2019 – Nov 2024) promote issues associated with females, but even the timing of this confrontation between the changing expectations of young Australian women and the Australian government can be determined by further sub-divisions of the Libra micro-age decan.  The Libra MAD is one third of the Gemini micro-age (Dec 2014 – Nov 2029) which also contains 12 nano-ages (approx. 15 months each).  The nano-age in effect for February and March 2021 is the Capricorn nano-age (Dec 2019 – Mar 2021).

Each nano-age also has three nano-age decans, and the period October 2020 to March 2021 is within the Capricorn nano-age decan (Oct 2020 – Mar 2021) thus further promoting the influence of Capricorn – a key sign for governments.  Governments are usually downstream from society which means they are usually more conservative than the average person, and conservatism is ruled by Capricorn.

Drilling down even further, each 15 month nano-age has 12 five week pica ages, and the Capricorn pica age covers most of the months of February and March 2021. Thus Capricorn has reached its penultimate force at the same time as the sexual assault issue hit the Australian government.  Combining Capricorn with Libra provides the astrological smoking gun for this situation.
